REVIEW: Paul Rudd Saves Our Idiot Brother from Total Idiocy

Jesse Peretz’s Our Idiot Brother is a feel-good movie for people who resist feel-good movies, a flawed vessel that nonetheless stays afloat by clinging to its buoyant star, Paul Rudd. Its problems are numerous and apparent: The picture meanders listlessly, and in the end it’s really more of a character sketch than a comedy — the movie’s writers, David Schisgall and Evgenia Peretz (the director’s sister), haven’t really bothered much with a plot. Yet I came out of Our Idiot Brother feeling better than I did when I went in. It’s the kind of movie whose value lies between the lines, not directly on them, and if the pleasures it offers are slender ones, at least there’s something good-hearted about them.

Our Idiot Brother Red Band Trailer: What an Effing Moron

Red band trailers are the Movieline reader’s one-stop shop for swear words, PG nudity, and otherwise offensive dialogue. They’re the Costco of cusses. In the new red band trailer for the pleasant-seeming Our Idiot Brother (read the Movieline review here), Paul Rudd befuddles his parole officer, interrupts some schtupping, and survives the cutting commentary of his sister Elizabeth Banks. It’s all very red , you know?

M-Bone’s Funeral Will Be Open To Cali Swag District Fans

Mante ‘M-Bone’ Talbert’s family has invited public to pay respects at May 27 service. By Rob Markman M-Bone Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images The death of Cali Swag District member M-Bone has not only affected the dancer’s family and friends, but the hip-hop community as well. In light of the overwhelming response to his untimely death, the family of the CSD artist (born Mante Talbert) has decided to open up his funeral to the public. “There has been a tremendous outreach of concern and the family would like to have the funeral open to the public and fans that would like to support,” Cali Swag’s publicist said in a statement released on Friday (May 20). For fans wanting to attend, services will take place on Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m. PT at Faithful Central on 333 W. Florence Avenue in Inglewood, California. On May 15, at approximately 10:30 p.m. PT, 22-year old M-Bone was shot twice in the head while sitting in his car on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood. Despite reports that Talbert was killed by a neighbor who was jealous of his success, police still have no clear-cut motive and no arrest has been made, according to an Inglewood homicide detective who spoke to MTV News on Friday. Bone was one of four Cali Swag District members, and the group rose to fame with their 2010 platinum single “Teach Me How to Dougie.” CSD collaborators Jermaine Dupri, Red Caf

‘Hunger Games’ Star Jennifer Lawrence Talks ‘Twilight,’ Kristen Stewart

Actress tells MTV News she imagines an awkward introduction with fellow book-to-movie heroine would begin with, ‘Books! Who knew?’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jennifer Lawrence Photo: MTV News For those who keep tabs on the world of best-selling young adult fiction and the big-screen adaptations that accompany them as we do, the most exciting story to come out of that world recently is the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ dystopian mega-hit, “The Hunger Games.” Naturally the biggest news was the announcement that Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence had won the highly coveted role of Katniss Everdeen , followed by casting news of key characters Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), then Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinkett and later, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy. MTV News was lucky enough to score a few minutes with Lawrence recently to talk all about her exciting upcoming projects, including “The Hunger Games” and “X-Men: First Class.” While discussing the huge fan-following behind the “Games” trilogy, the topic of comparisons to another popular book series-turned-box-office dominator, “Twilight,” and its leading lady, Kristen Stewart, came up. Given that “The Hunger Games” and “Twilight” have a few similarities, we asked Lawrence if she’s spoken to Stewart about the experience, or if she’d want to commiserate in any way about starring in hugely popular book-to-movie franchises. “No, I haven’t spoken to her,” Lawrence said, and then playfully acted out a little pantomime scene of what might happen if and when the two ever do meet. To do so, Lawrence used a series of incomprehensible grunts and gestures that could be loosely translated as, “Hi, how are you? You’re in those movies. You are, too. Cool.” “I don’t really know what we’d say,” Lawrence admitted. “[We’d] just be like [gestures to an invisible book in her hand], ‘Books! Who knew?’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Emma Brown announced that she is temporarily leaving Brown University to concentrate on promoting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 , and not, as some outlets had divined, because she was being teased by the fellow students. No word when or if she would be returning to Brown or transferring to a different university. As an alumnus, I say come to Columbia, Emma! We had Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Paquin and Jake Gyllenhaal and would mind a little magic in the matriculating mix! [ US Weekly ]
