https://twitter.com/EllenBarkin/status/784176274851913728 On Tuesday, white actress Ellen Barkin turned to Twitter to ask for help understanding the controversy about Nate Parker‘s new movie The Birth Of A Nation and his 1999 rape acquittal. Barkin, who currently stars in TNT’s Animal Kingdom, was clear that her questions was directed only at her non-white followers, writing “Please don’t offer suggestions if […]

KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah airs Law & Order: SVU on Wednesday nights. That program centers on such horrific crimes as rape and murder. But the NBC affiliate has drawn its objectionable line at The New Normal , an upcoming sitcom from Glee creator Ryan Murphy that focuses on a gay couple and the family of its surrogate mother. “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International, said in a statement. The decision has been met with backlash from those involved with the show and those who care about gay rights. First, there is star Ellen Barkin’s reply on Twitter. “Shame on you @kslcom,” wrote the veteran actress, referring to the move as “blatantly homophic” and adding: “[A] loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate? What will play in @NBCTheNewNormal spot? A dude reading from the bible?” GLAAD President Herndon Graddick has also spoken out, saying of the axing: “Same-sex families are a beloved part of American television thanks to shows like Modern Family , Glee and Grey’s Anatomy . While audiences, critics and advertisers have all supported LGBT stories, KSL is demonstrating how deeply out of touch it is with the rest of the country.” KSL does not air Saturday Night Live and also dropped NBC’s The Playboy Club last fall, citing that drama’s “objectionable material.”
In Utah you can have multiple wives… but if your syndicated TV show has anything to do with being Gay, it will get banned! The Utah station, KSL-TV, said it won’t broadcast New Normal when it premieres this fall. New Normal is based on a single mother’s life as she becomes a surrogate for a gay couple and ya know…that’s bad. “After viewing the pilot episode of The New Normal, we have made the decision to keep it off our fall schedule,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL parent company Bonneville International, told Deseret News. “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” Crude dialogue, explicit content and offensive characterizations were the main reasons why KSL-TV would not bring New Normal to air when it launches Sept. 11. Ellen Barkin isn’t taking this isht lying down either and she went to Twitter to let us all know how pissed off she is: Conservative group One Million Moms also had their own opinion of the new show: NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage,” the group said at the time. “These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture.” Source Images via WENN/Twitter Continue reading →
If a lip slip is the Holy Grail of celebrity nudity, does that make Mr. Skin Indiana Jones? We already got a good look at Ellen Barkin ‘s oyster in a bottomless scene in 1987’s Siesta , and now Mr. Skin’s own Blu-ray Ninja has discovered another lower lip scene from Ellen in the thriller Sea of Love (1989). Previous versions of the film hid her furburger in shadow, but with some gentle tweaking the Blu-ray revealed A-list labia in the scene where she gives a fully clothed Al Pacino a reacharound. There’s one key difference- unlike in Indiana Jones, when you open Ellen’s Ark of the Covenant, you won’t melt. Well, maybe in your pants. See strawberry-blonde bombshell Ellen Barkin exposed in Siesta (1987), Sea of Love (1989) and more right here at MrSkin.com!
New in theaters, Malin Akerman stars in the movie musical Rock of Ages . But if you need something to Stacee Jaxx off to, check out Malin’s twin talents in Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Nude on Blu-ray, Ellen Barkin sets sail on the good ship T&A in Sea of Love , and finally Nicole Kidman will make you Papa Boner in the HBO original movie Hemingway & Gellhorn.
NeNe Leakes has landed a role on a series everyone can at least admit is scripted. The Real Housewife of Atlanta, who actually hasn’t been awful as a swim team coach on Glee , will team up again with Ryan Murphy for The New Normal . A comedic pilot, the show focuses on a gay couple – Book of Mormon ‘s Andrew Rannells and The Hangover ‘s Justin Bartha – who uses a surrogate mother to start a family. Ellen Barkin also plays a role and Leakes will recur as a character named Rocky. Murphy created Glee and will serve as a producer on The New Normal .
Happy Thanksgiving, my naughty little puritans. Before I jump headfirst into the HoKa turkey that Gloria Virtel is graciously preparing, I thought I’d share the five filmic things I’m most thankful for in 2011. Join me as I thank national treasures like Jon Hamm, Penn Badgley, and Twitter’s new empress.
Edward Burns’s newest film Newlyweds closed out the Tribeca Film Festival this year, and the director/writer/star is happy to tell you how he allocated the $9,000 in its budget: “5k for actors, 2k insurance, 2k food and drink. 9k in the can.” That’s according to Burns’s Twitter , which is a pretty fun and inspiring scroll for independent filmmakers. Movieline premieres the new poster for Newlyweds after the jump.
As a general rule in the movies, dysfunction is better offered as a side dish rather than a main course, accenting what’s really a story of grieving and letting go, or coming of age, or self-acceptance. Screaming, crying, acting out and mistreating others are tougher to take when they’re the primary focus instead of symptomatic of something deeper to be excavated and explored.
