Alexander Skarsgard Raves About Working With Dad In ‘Melancholia’

But Stellan is ‘such a douche bag’ in the Lars von Trier movie, Alexander laughs to MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Alexander and Stellan Skarsg&#aring;rd Photo: Jeff Vespa/Getty Images ” Melancholia ” certainly isn’t the first film to contemplate the end of the world as we know it, but the dreamy drama from writer/director Lars von Trier does boast its own noteworthy debut: the teaming of father/son duo Stellan and Alexander Skarsg&#aring;rd In the movie, out Friday (November 11) in New York and L.A., Alexander plays mild-mannered Michael, the man who marries Kirsten Dunst ‘s slightly unhinged Justine. Father Stellan plays Justine’s boss and Michael’s best man, Jack – a role that required the elder Skarsg&#aring;rd to act out some less than savory behavior. “He’s such a douche bag in the movie,” Alexander said with a grin. “Your dad’s a douche bag?” Dunst answered, laughing. “Well, he is,” Alexander confirmed. “What I thought was interesting about Michael was that he’d pick this guy as his best man at his wedding. This is not his best friend. It’s his wife’s boss, and he does it just to kind of help his wife in his career. It says a lot about Michael.” (Not to mention the trajectory of their love affair.) Despite Jack’s unpleasant demeanor, working with dad Stellan was an experience Alexander truly cherished. “It was awesome,” he enthused. “We’ve never worked together before. He’s one of my best friends. I love hanging out with him. Being able to hang out for two months – we shot in [our home country of] Sweden, and I thought it was great that he wasn’t my dad.” “They’re really cute together as father and son,” Dunst chimed in. “They’re like bros.” “He’s pretty rad. He’s a cool cat,” Alexander said. Check out everything we’ve got on “Melancholia.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Rihanna ‘Killed It’ On Talk That Talk’s ‘Watch N’ Learn’

‘I really feel like, this song, it’s going to be big,’ producer Hit-Boy tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Rihanna Photo: Dave J. Hogan/ Getty Images Rihanna has given fans a taste of her November 21 release Talk That Talk in the form of two singles: the Calvin Harris party starter “We Found Love” and the Dr. Luke club banger “You Da One.” The album features nine other booty-shaking, NSFW tunes about getting frisky, with production credits from a number of noted hitmakers like Stargate, Bangladesh and The-Dream. Another producer, Hit-Boy, made the final cut with his sexy, instructional “Watch n’ Learn.” “She definitely murdered it vocally,” he told MTV News. “I was just at the studio last week listening to a mix of it, and man, she killed it. I really feel like, this song, it’s going to be big. I’m really excited about it.” The track wasn’t originally slated for any artist in particular when Hit-Boy (who has produced for Lil Wayne, the Throne, Eminem and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few) started working on it. “I kind of went into the situation blind, but I had this track I actually started at home, and the one day I was at the studio with this amazing [songwriter] Priscilla Renea, and I was going to tell her to go home, but I was like, ‘Stay here and see if you could come up with an idea for this,’ ” he recalled of the track’s origin. “And by the time I got back to the house she sent me the idea through iChat, and I was like, ‘Man, this is crazy.’ So we got it to [Rihanna], and they went crazy, and she cut it, and that’s what it is!” The song, like many on the album, focuses on two people getting frisky. So why is Rihanna feeling so hot and bothered this time around? “I mean it’s called Talk That Talk, and she’s definitely talking that talk — especially, I know, from my record,” he said. “It’s called ‘Watch n’ Learn,’ and people will understand what it’s about once it comes out. It’s a very sexy record, but it’s fun. It’s [got] great melodies; it’s catchy; the beat knocks. It’s so many different elements to it.” What are you expecting from Rihanna’s new album? Christina Milian Talks New Album, Dealing With Divorce & Moving On [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Read this article:

The beautiful and multi-talented, Christina Milian , has been a little under the radar lately after the news of her very public divorce from The Dream hit the media. Since then, Christina has been working hard on her new album and as the new social media correspondent on “The Voice”. With all these new projects that Ms. Milian is working on, we had to catch up with her to see just what has she been up to lately! Take a look at my exclusive interview with Christina where we chatted about her new album, dealing with her divorce in the public and moving on. How does she run in those heels? HelloBeautiful: How did you get the gig as the social media correspondent with “The Voice”? Christina Milian: I guess they were looking for someone to fill that role. They wanted someone that could relate to the celebrity coaches and the music industry. They wanted someone who could connect all the dots. Social media has had a huge affect on their fan base. With the following that I have and the fan base that I have, they felt it would be a good connection to have me come on board. They came to me and we had this great meeting and then I was there the next week! It happened that fast. It’s pretty exciting. Its fun. I have the coolest job. All I have to do is tweet and shoot interviews and be myself. I feel so blessed that I don’t have to go out of my way to do what I love. HB: What are you bringing to the table this season? Christina Milian: I like to help edit the videos and give fine tuning detail and bring the personality to it. It’s one thing to ask the basics but having been in this situation that the contestants are in, it’s easier to bring your own experience to the table. HB: What kind of advice would you give to anyone looking to follow in your footsteps whether it be singing or acting or anything that you’re doing in your career? Christina Milian: First off the biggest lesson is patience because it doesn’t happen overnight. The best thing to do is connect with a specific idol. I wanted to be like Janet Jackson and Madonna so I paid attention to their careers. Pay attention to their history and study the people you love and then study the people they studied. I think that’s the best advice. HB: Now, we have to get into the juicy stuff! How has it been living your life so publicly with the birth of your daughter and then your very public divorce? Christina Milian: You know, I’ve been doing it for so long that now, it comes with the territory. Certain things are crazy. There are things in my life that have been private and when it comes time to explain them, no one can believe it. When you live your life in front of a camera it’s not the easiest thing, but people are relying on you to help them get through the same thing. It’s actually motivating in a way. You have to accept it. People always think I call the paparazzi! I’m like “look, I live in LA they are EVERYWHERE!” I mean they pop out of bushes! So I’ve accepted it. It’s my life. It’s like having a spy on you 24/7 so it keeps you in check and in line from doing anything stupid. But I’m still human and I still make mistakes. I used to let it affect me but now I’m just like, nobody is living my life but me. At the end of the day, I have to live for me. I don’t mind. I’ve gained a lot of respect and support especially from women. They have helped be my backbone. HB: Speaking of that situation, how are things with you and Dream now? Do you still talk? Christina Milian: We have a mutual friendship and we communicate very well with each other. We both have very busy schedules but it’s working out very well. With all the drama, I just wanted us to be cool because at the end of the day all that matters is our daughter. It’s worked out well now since all the media is out of our business. I mean, we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever because of our daughter, by choice, because he doesn’t HAVE to be present, but he chooses to be. We have a great speaking relationship, and I’m grateful for that. HB: Do you think there is any truth to the rumors that some of his new songs on his mix tape are about you? Christina Milian: (Laughing) You have to discuss that with him! I mean, he’s an amazing writer and I’ll give him credit for that. I do believe that he’s taking pieces from all his relationships and making them into songs. He’s very creative in his writing and he’s speaking for a lot of men. I think when Dream writes, he writes about everything and he’s also adding what the fans what to hear: the realness. I mean, I’m not the only one in this situation that has a Mercedes car and for second everybody was like “did you hear this?!” and I started thinking that people might think these songs were about me. I called him and talked to him about it, and he basically told me that at the end of the day we’re both creative people and we dated publicly so of course they’re going to point the finger at you but we both know that these things aren’t true. But since all eyes were on us during our relationship, it’s natural for people to look at me. HB: Are you dating anyone new? Christina Milian: I’m enjoying being on my own and have been that way for about a year and some change. I’m pretty much not open to dating. I think I’m just spending time on me. I’ve been from relationship to relationship my whole life. I think the most time I’ve spent in between a relationship was like two months and then I was right back to like a three-year relationship. I have all the love I need right here from my daughter and I’m very protective over her because now when I do decide to date it will not only affect me but my daughter as well. I’m just not interested right now. It’s going to take some time. I’m not bitter I’m just enjoying my me time. HB: Okay, moving on from that and back to your music. Are there any artists that you would like to work with that you haven’t already work with before? Christina Milian: I would love to work with Chris brown, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West- we actually did a demo in the past that never came out, so I  would love to work with him again. And Rihanna, I would LOVE to work with her. HB: Are you working on any new projects that we should be aware of? Christina Milian: I am working on a new album. Its just a lot of business matters I’ve been trying to clean up. I took some time off after having the baby and trying to find my new sound so now I think I’m in a good place. I’m always traveling and meeting new people, so I’m definitely in a place of moving forward in my career rather than making music just to make it. Trust me, your girl is working hard! And now the questions we always ask… Whats in your bag? My iPad. I went to the dentist today so I have this sleeping guard retainer thing. My Crooks and Castle sunglasses, Mac 3d glass lip gloss and my little red Cannon camera If you were forced to get a tattoo what would it be of and why? I have a bunch of tattoos but if I was forced I would get the quote, “live the life” because it’s my motto. I love to live. You have to be free. I have freedom on my wrist so I think that I would put that quote on me somewhere. Whats your vice and where do u go to get it? Food and shoes! But shoes definitely. I have my share of Louboutins. You can go to the actual store and get the best ones and there’s another store out here that has some great choices. Whats one urge you get but never act on it? To be aggressive with a guy and be like, “hey this is this and this is that and peace out!” But I don’t have the guts to do that because they would know who I am and it would just be all bad! (laughing) When was the last time you cried? Recently in church. I cried and I actually became a member of the church that day. It was a great message and I feel really good in my life and I feel really proud of myself because of all I’ve been going through. I’ve been going to this church for about a year and I have faith and believe in God so the message really spoke to me. I was amazed. ‘X Factor’ Mini-MC Astro Channels Eminem

Chris Rene and Rachel Crow also earn high praise from the mentors. By Adam Graham L.A. Reid on “X Factor” Photo: FOX Youngsters stole the night when “The X Factor” went to Hollywood on Wednesday (November 9), with the top 11 contestants singing songs from the movies. Well, maybe Songs That Were at One Time Used in Movies would be more appropriate, since few people associate Coldplay’s “Fix You” with the Owen Wilson starrer “You, Me and Dupree” or U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” with the Julia Roberts/ Richard Gere flick “Runaway Bride.” Regardless, Astro, the 15-year-old rapper with enough confidence to fuel a rocket ship to the moon, soared with his rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which kept the Oscar-winning song’s structure but saw all new verses — including a shout-out to boxing legend Joe Frazier, who died this week — from the pint-size spitter. “You are a champion tonight,” Nicole Scherzinger told him, while Simon Cowell seemed equally impressed with Astro’s performance and the show’s ability to clear the use of the notoriously protective Eminem’s song. Elsewhere, 13-year-old Rachel Crow was compared by Cowell to a “mini-little Beyonc

Michael Jackson Estate: What’s Next?

Post-Conrad Murray trial projects include Fan Fest in Las Vegas, Bad reissue and Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Immortal’ soundtrack. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Michael Jackson has remained just as big a star in death as he was in life — if not bigger. Like Elvis, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra and Tupac Shakur before him, interest in all things Jackson spiked following the singer’s death and continues to be strong two years after his shocking passing on June 25, 2009. Jackson’s name has been in the news on a daily basis over the past month thanks to the involuntary manslaughter trial of his former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray , who was found guilty , the jury announced Monday. It’s not the kind of publicity the Jackson estate is looking for, but with the trial now over, the focus will likely turn to the next projects from the singer’s vaults. To date, the estate has been busy lining up one project after another, beginning with 2009’s This Is It, the documentary on Jackson’s planned comeback tour that grossed close to $200 million worldwide on its way to becoming the #2 music documentary of all time. That was followed by the release of Michael , a posthumous album with unreleased Jackson tracks that sold more than 500,000 copies, alongside more than 1 million units of the This Is It soundtrack . There were also 3 million units shifted of the Ubisoft video game “Michael Jackson: The Experience,” which helped rack up the more than $1 billion the estate has brought in since Jackson’s death through a combination of music sales, film/TV revenue, music publishing, licensing and a $31 million recording contract with Sony. Cirque du Soleil’s traveling MJ extravaganza, “Immortal,” made its American debut this month, boasting a soundtrack that features a number of mash-ups and reimaginings of the singer’s music, plus some previously unheard bits. The show’s soundtrack is slated to hit stores November 21. When the show hits Las Vegas in December, it will coincide with the annual Michael Jackson Fan Fest (December 3-14), the ritual gathering of the flock that this year will include a raft of never-before-seen memorabilia from the King of Pop. Among the items at the first-ever estate-authorized fest at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino are the actual gates of Neverland Ranch, Jackson’s personal book collection, the 1999 Rolls Royce Seraph limousine with 24-karat gold embellishments designed by the singer, the 10-foot-tall HIStory statue, the spaceship set from the “Scream” video, the throne from the Egyptian-themed “Remember the Time” clip and the tank from the “Earth Song” live performance. Also reportedly due soon is a repackaging of Jackson’s 1987 Bad album, which, like previous reissues, is expected to feature previously unearthed bonus material. The original album featured landmark songs such as the title track, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Dirty Diana.” Given the amount of unreleased material that was reportedly left in the vaults at Jackson’s death, there is a strong possibility that another album of unheard tunes could be in the offing soon as well. Lady Gaga Wins Big, Guys Rule At MTV EMA

Justin Bieber, Coldplay, and a team-up between Queen and Adam Lambert were just some of the night’s highlights. By James Dinh Lady Gaga performs at the 2011 EMA Photo: Leon Neal/AFP It was an evening of surprises at the 2011 MTV Europe Awards that included a takeover by the nominated men, a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, a streaker, and, of course, an out-of-this-world performance from Lady Gaga . Broadcast from the halls of Belfast’s Odyssey Arena in Northern Ireland on Sunday, the Selena Gomez-hosted ceremony kicked off with two-time nominee Coldplay , who performed their latest hit “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall.” Frontman Chris Martin danced his way from the arena catwalk to the main stage as a spiral of lights spun around the band, igniting the arena. Check out all the red-carpet fashion at the 2011 EMA on MTV Style. Shortly after, cameras panned to the center of the venue where the night’s host, Selena Gomez , stood prominently in the middle of an onstage circle of fire. It was only a taste of what was to come from the former Disney starlet’s hosting spectacle, which included a string of outfit changes, an appearance from her rap alter ego and mingling with pop peer Katy Perry. “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww were on-site to deliver the first award of the night: Best Live. “What’s up Belfast? ‘Jersey Shore’ is in the house!” they screamed simultaneously, before announcing Katy Perry as the award recipient. “This is probably my favorite award because my fans mean so much to me,” the pop superstar told the crowd. “I’m so tired, but it’s all worth it. Thank you. I love you.” LMFAO brought their wild antics to the EMA with a performance of their summer smash “Party Rock Anthem.” The electro/pop duo proved their hard-partying ways with a life-size zebra float and a dance-off with America’s Best Dance Crew winner Quest Crew. Lady Gaga took home the award for Best Female, which was presented to her by David Hasselhoff. Pitted against Adele, Beyonc

Drake, J. Cole, Big Sean Round Out Wale’s Dream Tour

Maybach Music labelmate Meek Mill would also make the lineup, Wale says of ‘doing something for us and our generation.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wale Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Having the support of veteran rappers like Jay-Z and Rick Ross has been helpful for Wale throughout his career, but the relative newcomer hopes to one day band with hip-hop’s next generation of MCs in making their own impact. Wale hit the road with J. Cole and Big Sean a few years back, but for his dream concert run the D.C. rapper hopes to gather some of the game’s newest talent to create a tour that rivals the grandiose concerts of yesteryear. “I’ve been talking to a couple of artists about doing something for us and our generation,” Wale revealed when he appeared on this week’s “RapFix Live.” “Something that feels like the Hard Knock Life Tour, something that feels like the Up in Smoke Tour from back in the day.” On the 1999 Hard Knock Life Tour, Jay-Z hit the road with DMX, Method Man, Redman, Ja Rule and his Roc-A-Fella clique. Similarly, Dr. Dre banded with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Warren G for his 2000 Up in Smoke Tour. Those historic runs have been the “Ambition” MC’s inspiration. “My dream tour would be like, me, Cole, Drake, Sean, Meek,” Wale told “RFL” host Sway. “I think that would be dope, something like that; big venues.” On Tuesday Wale released his sophomore album, Ambition, with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. Aside from his current single, “Lotus Flower Bomb,” featuring R&B singer Miguel, Wale collaborates with two of his dream tourmates: Big Sean, on the Diplo-produced “Slight Work,” and Meek on the LP’s title track. Wiz Khalifa Comparisons ‘Huge’ To Newbie T. Mills

‘I thought that whole signing to a major label, getting on the radio only happened in movies,’ ‘Stupid Boy’ MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman T. Mills Photo: MTV News Fire Starter: T. Mills One listen to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and that was all she wrote for young Travis Mills. The 22-year-old Riverside, California, native was so enamored by the multiplatinum rap quintet that he decided to jump into music. “The fact that they could sing and rap at the same time, integrate melody and stuff into their songs, I was blown away,” T. Mills told Mixtape Daily. Now that Mills does in fact blend rap and pop melodies in his music, some are comparing the tatted-up newcomer to Wiz Khalifa. While Mills insisted that he’s his own man, he’s also flattered by the comparison. “I think it’s definitely a compliment. I’m a huge Wiz fan,” he said. “Even for someone to put me in the same category as Wiz is a huge accomplishment for myself because I been f—in’ with Wiz a long time and he’s on top of the game right now.” T. Mills hopes to eventually occupy a similar space. When he was 17, the young rapper began recording songs on his MacBook, and by 18, he was posting his music on MySpace. In 2009, Mills performed 60 shows as part of the Vans Warped Tour, where a dance tent was his stage. He went on to sign with independent label Uprising Records, the home of his 2010 debut Ready, Fire, Aim! Although he’s still a relative unknown, his video for “Stupid Boy” has clocked 1.8 million views on YouTube. And T. Mills is just getting started. At the top of the year, he signed to Columbia Records, dropping his free LP Leaving Home with the label. “Originally, the concept for the album was a mixtape, I just wanted to put out a mixtape,” he explained. “What if we do an album that I give to my fans as gratitude?” he remembered asking the record company. While “Stupid Boy” is a party track, Mills believes he has grown since then, so on Leaving Home, he offers up more than just carefree, feel-good music. “It was my first time in a real studio, so it was my first time having access to all that stuff,” he said of his breakout single. “Before then I just recorded on my laptop. I feel like it was a good learning experience for me. It’s not who I am now but it gave me that platform.” That’s not to say that Leaving Home isn’t fun. There’s the sneakers-and-sex ode “Vans On,” where Mills sings about making love while wearing his skater kicks, for example. And to add balance, there’s also the inspirational “Smoke & Mirrors” and the cautionary “Hollywood.” With his major-label debut scheduled for a 2012 release, it seems T. Mills is well on his way. The reality of it all, though, is still a bit much for the small-town kid. “When I was 19, I didn’t think anything could happen,” he admitted. “I’m from a small town; I thought that whole signing to a major label, getting on the radio only happened in movies.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
