Patti Stanger, Andy Friedman Call Off Wedding

The Millionaire Matchmaker still hasn’t made the right one for herself. Patti Stanger has called off her own wedding to Andy Friedman, she revealed on Twitter Sunday: “I just ended my relationship with Andy,” she wrote. They had been happy together for a long time, however, “It hit me really hard that I want kids in my life. You have to agree on the non-negotiables.” That seems to imply her man did not want children. The 49-year-old Bravo star, who got engaged to Andy Friedman last year and was with him six years, apparently never mentioned the kids thing between 2004 and right now? It was not to be for Patti Stanger and Andy Friedman. After announcing the sad news, Stanger Twittered, “Thank you so much for all the supportive messages, Tweets, emails and Facebook comments. It means a lot.” NOTE : Don’t forget to follow THG on Twitter and Facebook !

Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders: Engaged!

Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders, his girlfriend, are getting married. Congrats to the snowboarder and former winner of The Bachelorette, and to Lueders, who later competed in Jason Mesnick’s season of The Bachelor! This whole community is just so weird. Jesse won the final rose from DeAnna Pappas in 2008 over Mesnick, who went on to star on The Bachelor the following season. DeAnna just got engaged to Stephen Stagliano , the twin brother of Bachelor contestant Michael Stagliano. In any case, Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders are happy now, although to hear him tell it, the proposal itself could have gone a little more smoothly. “When I first asked for Ann’s hand in marriage, her dad didn’t realize that Ann wasn’t supposed to know,” Jesse tells People of his engagement to Ann. Hopefully Jesse Csincsak’s engagement to Ann Lueders lasts longer than his previous attempt! It probably will, since they didn’t meet on a reality TV dating show. “He went inside the house and Ann and her mom were just chatting and he goes, ‘So Jesse just asked me a very interesting question. He asked me if he could marry you.’ And she goes, ‘DAD! You’re not supposed to tell me that!'” “He didn’t do it on purpose!” adds Csincsak, who previously dated former Bachelor contestant Holly Durst, now engaged to Michael Stagliano of all people. “He was just trying to be the typical happy go lucky dad!” But in no way did it ruin her excitement when the moment came. Jesse popped the question on the shore of an island in Lake Erie near her Ohio hometown. Despite the spoiler alert, the bride didn’t expect it. “I told Jesse, ‘I wish I knew this was coming,'” Ann Lueders said. “I would have ran a brush through my hair!’ ” The pair will wed before the end of August in Las Vegas.

Did Brittani Senser Music Video Lead to Levi Johnston-Bristol Palin Breakup?

Bristol Palin dumped Levi Johnston in large part because of her two-time ex-fiance’s dalliances (real or rumored) with exes Lanesia Garcia and Briana Plum. But a music video he was set to film for Brittani Senser’s song “After Love” may have played a role in breaking off the engagement , and you sorta see why. Brittani’s music video involves a girlfriend’s overbearing and manipulative mother, implications of blackmail, a forced breakup, a naked love romp, and so forth. Sarah and Bristol Palin believe the video is directly (and inaccurately) based on them, and Levi was mocking the former Alaska Governor by participating. Is that even true, though? Here are the details: “Levi has just been stopped by a police officer,” the script for the “After Love” video reads. “He didn’t do anything wrong. This doesn’t seem to matter though as the authorities basically harass Levi and provoke him to react.” Poor, unsuspecting Levi is then yanked from his car, searched and then, despite him being clean, is handcuffed and tossed in the back of a patrol car. Levi, the police officer and the evil mother figure are later captured in an empty parking lot, setting up the blackmail portion of Brittani Senser’s vid. “Levi starts to yell at Brittani’s mother,” the script reads. “She just throws a thick manila envelope on the hood of the car. She tells him to open it.” “He opens it and immediately his face goes pale.” Possible parallels, sure. But is that really something to get worked up about? There’s also a modest Levi-Brittani naked cuddle session, of course … “Levi strokes Brittani’s hair, they intertwine fingers, they laugh, she kisses his shoulder, he runs his hand gently down her back,” the script says. Responsible for Bristol Palin dumping Levi or not, Senser supports her music video man – he will accompany her to the Teen Choice Awards Sunday.

Will Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Video Set The Tone For His Album?

For clues, MTV News takes a closer look at clips for ‘Ye’s previous first singles. By Steven Roberts Kanye West 10.10.2005 Photo: MTV News Despite his newfound penchant for social media, Kanye West has kept quiet about what’s in store for the video for his newest single, “Power.” MTV News gathered a few clues, including a look at the videos for his previous first singles, for hints about what fans might expect from his latest. A photo from the Marco Brambilla-directed “video project” hit the Web last Thursday and it featured a sullen-faced West wearing his oversize, gold Horus chain and standing between rows of columns. Still, West urged fans to not get too excited — via his Twitter. “Preview of the ‘Power’ Trailer, it’s just a still pic. Don’t get to[o] hype.” Naturally, everyone got hyped, and West tweeted a link to a New York Times article about Brambilla’s involvement with the project soon after. Brambilla described the video as “kind of apocalyptic, in a very personal way.” It remains to be seen how it will shape up, but it seems certain the clip will set the tone for his still-untitled fifth album. “Through the Wire” The video for West’s triumphant, Chaka Khan-sampled first single from his debut LP, The College Dropout, featured a bulletin board of Polaroids documenting ‘Ye’s recovery from a near-fatal car crash and early footage of West’s road to recognition. With his jaw still wired shut, West narrates the story of how his life-threatening accident fueled his fire as an MC. The video reflected the mood of West’s debut, which saw the Chicago native detailing his early struggles trying to get put on in hip-hop after being overlooked and underappreciated. West spent years behind the scenes, producing for the likes of Jay-Z, Mos Def and Beanie Sigel, but received little encouragement when it came to his dreams of rapping. It wasn’t until his accident, however, that even he began to give it his all. “Diamonds From Sierra Leone” Following the enormous success of College Dropout, West upped the ante with the video for “Diamonds From Sierra Leone.” The black-and-white, Hype Williams-directed video finds West riding around in a Mercedes-Benz in Prague. As he explores the city’s lavish architecture, he’s haunted by the sins of wealth in the form of children who’ve died mining diamonds in West Africa. The video reflects the creative steps forward that Kanye took on his second album, Late Registration. West collaborated with composer/producer Jon Brion on the project, which combined hip-hop production, string arrangements, horn riffs and piano. “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” West again reached out to Hype Williams for the video for “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” The visual was filmed in the desert with West rapping to a track featuring some Young Jeezy ad-libs. The barren backdrop was perfect for the boastful song, as Graduation became the album on which West began to separate himself from the rest of the rap universe. Famously criticized for not having a street record, Kanye dropped “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and it became not only an anthem for the streets, but nearly every MySpace page. It was during this period that West also topped 50 Cent in a much-hyped sales duel. Following the album’s release, MTV named ‘Ye 2008’s “Hottest MC in the Game” “Love Lockdown” In all honesty, the video for “Love Lockdown” may not have played as large a role in helping to set the tone for 808s & Heartbreak. West had lost his mother, Donda West , in 2007 due to complications from surgery and broke off his engagement to his fianc

Empathy is What Really Sets Vegetarians Apart (at least Neurologically Speaking)

An article appeared in PLoS one this May which describes brain differences between Vegetarians, Vegans and Omnivores in the way they process pictures of animal suffering. I wasn't going to write about this until later this week, but since the always popular Scientific Fundamentalist has a related post out at the moment, I figure I should “jump on the bandwagon” with this right away. So here we go: The study in question is a neuroimaging study intent on investigating whether “the neural representation of conditions of abuse and suffering might be different among subjects who made different feeding choice due to ethical reasons, and thus result in the engagement of different components of the brain networks associated with empathy and social cognition” The hypothesis behind this study is based on the observation that Vegetarians and Vegans tend to base their decision to avoid animal products on ethical grounds. Assuming that Vegetarians and Vegans – because of their underlying moral philosophies – show greater empathy towards animal suffering, it is very well possible that these differences in empathy extend beyond the animal domain and show up as general differences in the degree of empathy felt towards other humans also; even at a neurological level. The study – in basic terms – investigates this hypothesis by placing subjects into a functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) machine and looking at the “activation” of different brain areas as subjects view a randomized series of pictures. The pictures used for this study included neutral scenes and an even share of scenes depicting various kinds of animal and human suffering. The first main finding of this study is that, compared to Omnivores, Vegans and Vegetarians show higher activation of empathy related brain areas (e.g. Anterior Cingular Cortex and left Inferior Frontal Gyrus) when observing scenes of suffering; whether it be animal or human suffering. Further, pictures of animal suffering (in contrast to pictures human suffering) recruited specific brain regions in Vegans and Vegetarians that were not differentially recruited by Omnivores. These were areas which are thought to be associated with higher-order representations of the self and self values (e.g. medial Prefrontal Cortex). In addition to generally higher activations in the above mentioned areas, a second main finding of this study is that there are certain brain areas which only Vegetarians and Vegans seem to activate when processing pictures of suffering. In particular, when viewing pictures of human suffering, Vegetarians in this study recruited additional brain areas thought to be associated with bodily representations that distinguish self from others. (Notably these areas were particularly active when mutilations were shown). The study has – of course – its own shortcomings, and I am somewhat breaking one of my own rules here by presenting fMRI related research without a thorough discussion of the statistics involved, however I feel vindicated by the fact that the authors themselves remain moderate in their conclusions by stating that “Our results converge with theories that consider empathy as accommodating a shared representation of emotions and sensations between individuals, allowing us to understand others. They also led us to speculate that the neuronal bases of empathy involve several distinct components including mirroring mechanisms, as well as emotion contagion and representations of connectedness with the self. In addition, brain areas similar to those showing different emotional responses between groups in our study have also been found to be modulated by religiosity, further supporting a key role of affect and empathy in moral reasoning and social values.” [italics added]. All things considered, the study suggests that Vegetarians are more empathetic to the suffering of others, but as I contemplate the well-documented health benefits of a Vegetarian diet, as well as the environmental and social hazards of current meat eating habits and production practices, I think it is obvious that reducing your meat consumption will first and foremost be an act of compassion towards yourself. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/evolved-primate/201005/empathy-is-what-reall… Here is the original study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2877098/ More links at original link, too. added by: animalia_libero

Kathy Griffin Emotionally ‘Raw’ Over Levi Johnston Engagement

‘I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,’ Griffin said about Johnston’s re-engagement to Bristol Palin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Kathy Griffin Photo: MTV News Just last summer, Kathy Griffin and Levi Johnston hit the town together at the Teen Choice Awards. The duo were all smiles as they walked down the carpet arm in arm. Cut to one year later and Johnston has left the comedienne heartbroken with the news that he’s re-engaged to former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin . Suffice to say, Griffin isn’t holding up too well. “You’re talking to me at a very emotionally difficult time because my lover, who I thought was my fiance, Levi Johnston, dumped me,” she joked at the 2010 VH1 Do Something Awards in L.A. Of course, Griffin is managing to smile through the pain. She made a video spoofing how she handled the news of Johnston’s engagement. In it, with Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” playing in the background, Griffin tears apart his Playgirl spread and teases that she may soon set her sights on Taylor Lautner, thanks to his dreamy GQ cover. “And I’ve done a YouTube about it and I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,” she said. “And I think any woman or gay man worth his salt will identify with my raw pain that is very, very serious.” So, Griffin is hoping that fans will stand by her in her pain now that she’s got a bunch of projects on the horizon. “It’s weird because through the pain, you also see me promoting my show, my Twitter, my books,” she teased. Recently Johnston and Palin spoke to US Weekly about their engagement, explaining that they reconnected three months ago while working on a custody plan for their son Tripp and unexpectedly rekindled their romance. “I really thought we were over,” Johnston said. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk.” What do you think of Griffin’s video about Johnston? Tell us in the comments! Vienna Girardi: Sexy, Single, Stepping Out

Jake Pavelka who? She claims all she wanted to do was move home to Florida and get out of the spotlight, but a newly-single Vienna Girardi hit the town Saturday in Hollywood. “I”m moving on with my life and I’m not looking back,” a smiling Vienna told Radar Online at the Carrera Sunglasses Escape event at the Chateau Marmont. With a positive attitude and without that stiff she used to be engaged to, she said “I’m really excited about just living on my own and being happy again.” Surrounded by friends, as well as some other celebrities like Nicole Richie, Vienna Girardi certainly looked pretty in a white tank top and skinny black jeans. CLEAR FOR TAKEOFF : Vienna left Jake at baggage claim and is getting on with her life. Probably for the best. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] “It’s great to be out with my girlfriends hanging out. We all have so much fun,” said the airheaded bubbly 23-year-old. “I’m happy to have my smile back.” The sadness seen during the tear-filled interview on The Bachelorette last week? Long gone. “It’s been a long time and I’m really ready to live my life again.” No word if her sex emails to Lee Smith have led to a reconciliation, but she’s landed a marketing job at Biolustre and is enthusiastic about the opportunity. “It’s fantastic, I’m really enjoying everything I get to do,” she says … and certainly couldn’t have said the same during her engagement to Jake. ZING! Whose side are you on?
