See original here:

Source: Christopher Polk / Getty The internet’s done it again. After a worldwide social media push urging MTV to honor Missy Elliott’s music video artistry, the network has decided to honor the rapper with this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Missy has been nominated for 41 VMAs over the course of her career, winning seven. This year will mark the rapper’s first performance at the VMAs since 2003 when she performed “Work It.” The same year, she took home the award for Video of the Year. “Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible,” Viacom’s Head of Music and Music Talent Bruce Gillmer said in a statement. “Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.” MTV is going a step further, linking up with Pepsi to honor Missy with celebrity and fan videos celebrating her legacy. The network is also planning a pop-up that will immerse attendees in some of her iconic videos. No word on a location for that pop-up museum yet, but it’s slated to be somewhere in NYC between August 24th and 25th. The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award has been given out at the VMAs since 1984 and was named after the King of Pop in 1991. David Bowie, the Beatles and Richard Lester were some of its first recipients. Source: Rolling Stone

About Time: ‘NBA 2K20’ Finally Adds All 12 WNBA Teams To The Game

Source: 2K / NBA 2K20 NBA Live took the big step of integrating the WNBA and its superstars into the game two years ago. Many began to wonder if the NBA 2K franchise would eventually follow suit. That question has been answered today (August 8), 2K revealed that all 12 WNBA teams and its superstars will be in the NBA 2K20 . With NBA Live 20 pushed all the way back , NBA 2K20 picked up the ball dropped by EA. In the developer video introducing the WNBA to 2K, we see Candace Parker, and Breanna Stewart getting their motion capture on. In the 1:47 clip we get to see the ladies in action and the gameplay looks very accurate. The players we see in the video do look visually accurate, which is a significant improvement from the generic scans NBA Live used of the WNBA players. Speaking on her addition to the top-selling video game Candace Parker added: “Growing up, I always remembered watching male athletes on TV and playing as them in video games. Now, to have the WNBA be in the position we are and to have women featured prominently in NBA 2K20, we are allowing young girls and boys to have female athletes as role models. The 2K team has done an amazing job of making sure to not just put women into the game playing men’s basketball, but I’ve seen first-hand the hard work they’re doing to make this as real and authentic as possible to women’s basketball. I’m proud to be a part of this team paving the way for the future.” Jeff Thomas, SVP of Development, Visual Concepts stated: “For years, fans have requested the ability to play as some of their favorite WNBA stars. We’ve been working with the WNBA and their top players to modify our basketball simulation engine to replicate the WNBA on-court experience. We’re excited to roll out this new feature in NBA 2K20 because we know how important the WNBA is to the world of basketball.” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert noted: “We are excited to have WNBA players as part of this top-selling video game,  helping to bring more exposure to these elite players, expanding our fan base and providing an immersive gaming experience featuring women role model athletes.” Better late than never right? NBA 2K is one of the most played games on consoles right now by both sexes. It was always weird that game lacked the ability for female gamers to create female avatars. The NBA 2K League’s first female player had to ball with a male avatar during the season. Hopefully now with the inclusion of the WNBA into the game that will change. Kudos to folks at 2K for the significant addition. All game modes featuring the WNBA will be available to play when NBA 2K20 drops worldwide September 6, 2019. Here’s Why Wendy Williams Didn’t Have A Prenup With Her Triffling Ex

Source: Teresa Kroeger / Getty With Wendy Williams’ divorce in the works , the talk show legend shared that she and soon-to-be-ex Kevin Hunter did not have a prenup in place. During a recent episode of “Sway In The Morning,” the 55-year-old admitted she never had those papers drawn because she “didn’t think [her marriage] would end.” “That’s not sexy to introduce paperwork when you’re in love with somebody,” she said adding, “But as a grown person, I get with another grown person, and that grown person would also have a thriving career. I’d choose differently this time.” As PEOPLE pointed out , without a prenup, Hunter, who was also served as Williams’ longtime manager, could have access to her whopping $40 million net worth. In addition to spilling the tea about her divorce, Williams also dished on her dating life and what kind of man she needs in her life for the long-term. “As a grown person, I’d get with another grown person, and that grown person would have a thriving career. I would choose differently this time,” she said. “You know I am 55. I don’t want to be with someone who wants to be a rapper. you know what I mean. You  might see me on a date with a 32-year old — please don’t mistake that for anything other than we are on a date. What I need is the comfort of a man who’s got his own and grown kids. I ain’t changing Pampers.” Take a look: As we previously reported , Williams filed for divorce in April. Clearly there are plenty of reasons for Williams to walk away from her marriage, which includes Hunter allegedly having a decade long affair with Hudson , perhaps even having a baby with her. That, and Williams has been  battling with addiction issues , which Hunter’s alleged cheating may have caused her to spiral. Also, it was reported that  Williams was allegedly rushed to the hospital in March of this year after hearing of Hudson and Hunter’s bundle of joy. That, and the 54-year-old’s popular talk show is on another hiatus . Then there were the allegations of physical abuse. This spring, sources told the New York Post in the past that employees claimed they heard the two fighting and that Williams would hide in her office to avoid seeing him. “She would hide in the bathroom and tell me to knock on the door when he left the office so she wouldn’t have to see him,” an intern told the newspaper. “You’d hear slaps or some type of tussling going on.” In the end, Williams just hopes that she and Hunter can be cordial to another for the sake of their 18-year-old son, Kevin Jr. “I want a divorce like yesterday, I want a divorce two months ago, three months ago. Whenever I found out, four months ago,” she stressed. “I want a divorce and I want to be friends with Kevin. I mean, and not because we have a son, but because that was real love. I still love him, just not in that way. You either in or you are out with me. I still have love for him, and I wish him the best in his new life with his new family.” RELATED NEWS: It Looks Like Wendy Williams Is Getting Her Groove Back With This Mystery Man Wendy Williams Is Living Her Best Life, Hung Out With Blac Chyna Last Night The Nerve! Quavo To Exec Produce Cartoon Series Based on Atlanta’s Hip-Hop Scene

Original post:

Source: Way Out West Festival Sweden – Day 1 – Performances Featuring: Migos, Quavo Where: Gothenburg, Sweden When: 10 Aug 2017 Credit: Emelie Andersson/WENN.com  Hip-Hop has come a long way from the days when rappers making cameos in big time Hollywood movies and TV shows were considered a huge deal for the culture. Nowadays not only are rappers doing their thing on the silver screen and on the tube, but they’re also getting in on the animation game. Just a few months after Vince Staples’ Adult Swim project Lazor Wulf was announced, the Migos’ Quavo  broke the news that he and Imagine Entertainment’s co-founder Brian Grazer are working together on an animation project inspired by Atlanta’s Hip-Hop scene. According to Complex the ATLien and Grazer are set to executive-produce a “transformative franchise” but unlike the mature content found in Staples’ Lazor Wulf , Quavo’s vision is being crafted to accommodate the children of the culture. “I have long seen how hip-hop as well as our music (Migos) really impacts kids,” Quavo said in a press release Thursday announcing the new animated franchise series aimed at kids ages 8-12. “I’ve loved animation my whole life whether on TV or in movies and I wanted my first jump into this premium content world to be a show just for kids. It will definitely reflect the creativity, love, and families in and around the NAWF side of Atlanta where we grew up.” The series will draw from the Atlanta hip-hop scene and marks a partnership between Imagine’s Marginal Mediaworks, Imagine Kids+Family, Quality Control Music, and Motown. Quality Control’s Pierre “Pee” Thomas and Kevin “Coach K” Lee will produce alongside Dan Altmann and Capitol Music Group’s Brian Nolan and Ryan Allingham. Sounds like Quavo and company are about to fill a space needed for the kids who don’t have many cartoons to choose from that they can relate to. Coach K said as much when sharing his thoughts on the upcoming project. “When I was growing up there was very little media that had brown and black skinned kids feeling heard or seen and the ones that did stood out and served as a crucial roadmap through our childhoods,” he said. “I’m about inclusive stories that address all kinds of situations that kids of ALL ethnic and financial backgrounds experience and to give them a common tool to learn and grow.” No word yet on when the series will premier but expect some original music and merchandise to accompany it’s release when the time comes.

Gang Leader Found Dead In Cell After Failed Attempt To Escape Dressed As His Daughter

Source: Aitor Diago / Getty The Brazilian gang leader and drug trafficker named Clauvino da Silva (also known as “Shorty) horribly attempted to escape his 73-year prison sentence dressed as his 19-year-old daughter. Now I know you’re wondering; how did he get a rubber mask, glasses, a wig, a black bra, and clothes? Ana Gabriele Silva his 19-year old daughter gave it to him. Next, you’re wondering; where was his daughter while he tried to escape? She was in Gericinó Prison Complex in Rio de Janeiro, hoping her father dressed like an odd little buff girl could make the great escape. Then you wonder; would my child do this for me? Unfortunately, da Silva wasn’t the Master Of Disguise and the police asked “Shorty” to remove everything. According to the Rio Times, Tuesday Clauvino da Silva was transferred to maximum security. “Three days after his failed escape, da Silva, a senior member of Comando Vermelho (Red Command), one of Brazil’s main crime groups, was found dead in his cell in a maximum-security prison. Officials said he appeared to have hanged himself with a bedsheet. Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Rick Ross & More Cast In ‘Coming To America 2’

Last month at the annual San Diego Comic Con Marvel threw the culture for a loop when they announced that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali would be replacing Wesley Snipes as the vampire hunting superhero Blade . While fans of Wesley’s were disappointed with the news (there were rumors Snipes and Marvel were working together to revive the franchise in the future), they’ll be glad to know that Passenger 57 just hitched a ride onto Eddie Murphy’s upcoming Coming To America 2 . Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Wesley Snipes has been cast to star alongside Eddie Murphy in the long overdue sequel to the 80’s comedy classic, but he’s not alone. Joining the expanding crew will be SNL fan favorite comedian Leslie Jones, Kiki Layne, and the bawse himself Rick Ross. No word yet on what role Ross will be playing, but he’s reportedly shooting some scenes at his playboy mansion in ATL. Aside from the new names mentioned, Coming to America 2 will see some familiar faces return as James Earl Jones and Arsenio Hall are set to reprise their original roles. According to the report the sequel revolves around a Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) who’s ready to take the reigns of King of Zamunda when he learns he has a son living in Queens. At the request of his father (James Earl Jones), Eddie returns to America to search for his long-lost seed. Wait, did Akeem have a one-nighter with someone before marrying Lisa McDowell? Did she leave him to return to Queens and not tell him she was pregnant? There’s a few possibilities but we’ll have to wait to find out. As for Wesley’s role in the film, it seems like we’ll be introduced to another part of Africa that we never knew existed. Snipes will play a new character named General Izzi, who rules a neighboring country to Zamunda, homeland of Murphy’s Prince Akeem. Layne will play Akeem’s daughter, and Leslie Jones’ role is being kept under wraps. James Earl Jones, of course, will reprise his role as Akeem’s father, King Jaffe Joffer, with Bates as royal servant Oha. December 18, 2020 can’t get here fast enough.
