Source: Mindy Small / Film Magic Talk about cold blooded. Ever since he called himself the King of R&B for this generation, Jacquees has caught both the wrath of some of his R&B contemporaries and praise by some for his confidence. Then videos of Jacquees cover songs such as “Candy Rain” by Soul For Real , Usher ‘s “Climax,”, Michael Jackson ‘s “Dirty Diana” and even Beyonce ‘s “Flawless.” Beyhive…Look what Jacquees did pic.twitter.com/1GyVMv9FBQ — M.Stout (@stout_87) December 24, 2018 Now, all of these covers are old and definitely way before Jacquees made headway with his 4275 album, or rather infamously taking Ella Mai ‘s “Trip” for a remix. Still, it hasn’t stopped more than 27,000 people from signing a petition asking the Decatur singer to stop covering songs. Launched over the Christmas holiday, the petition has gained steam with every new Jacquees video that keeps popping up. As one user wrote, He did the NE “If it Isn’t Love” choreography in his video for “Candy Rain”….everybody know you sposed to do the Candy Rain dance. This n*** tripping!” Others simply signed it just because they felt like it. “I’m signing it just because….. I haven’t heard any of his music but if all this stuff I’m hearing is true then maybe I shouldn’t listen,” one supporter wrote. While others signed because they’re not a fan of his music. “Until he stops singing flat, he needs to stop.” RELATED: King Of R&BeeEEeeE: 10 R&B Singers That Give Jacquees A Run For His Money RELATED: Who’s The King? Source: Michael Reaves / Getty Adrien Broner continues to excel at the struggle. The pro boxer got arrested just before Christmas for failing to appear in court. Seriously. Reports TMZ : The boxing star was busted Sunday in Broward County, Florida after a warrant for his arrest was issued for failure to appear in court earlier this month. He was booked in county jail and then released … court records show. The bench warrant stems from a case dating back to December 2017 … after he was arrested for having no driver’s license, speeding, no registration or proof of insurance. Since that arrest, he’s failed to appear in court several times … which led to a previous arrest in July for failure to appear. Last we heard from Broner, he was getting sued for failing to pay a $1.152M bill for jewelry . Hope they weren’t banking on that dough for the holidays.
Source: PYMCA / Getty 2019 looks like it might be another banner year for Drake . He has just added a premier dancehall artist to his label. As spotted on Complex Champagne Papi came out at the Unruly Fest in Jamaica as a surprise guest. On top of performing a short set of his songs he also made a very timely announcement. He went on to say that Popcaan is now an OVO Sound artist. “This is something we’ve worked on for a very long time,” he said. “I just want to let everybody know, finally. Officially, 2019 Popcaan is signed to OVO.” Naturally the crowd erupted over the news. They then shared the stage as pictures of the two scrolled on the stage. Popcaan made his official debut in 2014 with Where We Come From . He followed the album up with Forever earlier this year. Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN LeBron James is pretty much Teflon when it comes to controversies off the court, but a pair of recent instances have put him in the crosshairs of critics chomping at the bit. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar slammed NFL owners in a recent episode of his HBO show The Shop, and the sharing of a questionable 21 Savage lyric had him later apologizing for the act. Deadline reports : Speaking with business partner Maverick Carter Friday on his HBO Sports series The Shop, with guest stars Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams and rapper/actor Ice Cube, the Los Angeles Lakers forward called NFL owners “old white men” who, he said, acted like slave masters. “In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality,” James said in the conversation. “And it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f— I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.’” James then said it was the players who made the league, not the league making the players. “The players are who make the ship go,” James said. “Every Sunday, without Todd Gurley and without Odell Beckham Jr., without those players, those guys, there is no football. And it’s the same in the NBA.” Sports Business writer Darren Rovell shared a tweet out of LeBron James rapping the lyrics of 21 Savage’s “ASMR” track, which prompted a flurry of chatter criticizing James for doing so although there were some who didn’t think he was taking the anti-Semitism route. However, James told ESPN that he truly didn’t mean to offend anyone by sharing out the song. “Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone,” James said to ESPN after his squad lost 107-99 to the Memphis Grizzlies. “That’s not why I chose to share that lyric. I always [post lyrics]. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously, it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.” Surprised LeBron, who makes very few mistakes, put this out. Does quoting lyrics from a song absolve the person quoting from the responsibility behind the words? I’d argue no, especially with a following of 45 million. pic.twitter.com/efv9gkXres — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) December 23, 2018 — Photo: WENN
Source: photo: WENN It seems the day to day grind of hosting a talk show is taking a toll on Wendy Williams . She has announced she will be taking time off get her body right. As reported by Vibe America’s favorite gossiper will have to put things on pause until she feels well. Last week Wendy Williams announced on her show that she injured her shoulder thus staying in her seat for the majority of her show. She went on to further detail her struggles via her official Instagram account. “I did that to power through and try to deliver a great show for you, against the better judgment of the many people around me who genuinely care for my well-being. I really do ride or die for my craft and give 200%” she explained. She went on to also remind her fans about her longstanding medical condition. “Not to mention everyone is aware at this point about my thyroid condition (don’t cry for me Argentina). “For all my fellow thyroid sufferers, you know what the deal is,” she continued. “…Needless to say… I have no regrets and I appreciate everyone’s genuine concern for my wellness and care. I promise you a better Wendy in 2019.” This isn’t the first time the former radio host has experience health concerns during her tenure as a television personality. In 2017 she fainted during a Halloween themed episode. She attributed the scare due to lack of rest. Earlier this year she took a 3 week-week break per doctor’s orders. The Wendy Williams Show is scheduled to return to live tapings in January of 2019. Photo: WENN.com
Source: Chip Somodevilla / Getty Travis Scott might seriously want to reconsider his upcoming participation in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show . With Meek Mill and Jay-Z reportedly not fond of the idea, Al Sharpton is the latest big name calling out the Astroworld rapper. Rev Al didn’t bite his tongue and pretty much called Scott a hypocrite for allegedly accepting the gig while speaking with TMZ . “I think anyone that goes into the halftime show is in effect directly violating those that want to raise the question that the NFL should come to terms with what they have done and continue to do to Colin Kaepernick and those that protest on criminal justice issues.” “You can’t tell people to stand for those that take a knee and don’t go to the games and then say ‘but somebody ought to perform there and entertain. You’re drawing TV viewers, you’re bringing supporters, and I think that you can’t have it both ways. You can’t help people market something and then turn around and say you agree with the people protesting.” “I think he should do what a lot of other major artists have done: say ‘I’m not going to participate.’ You can’t fight against Jim Crow and then go sit in the back of the bus. ” Well, tell him how you really feel Rev. The Super Bowl halftime show is currently having issues locking down talent. Maroon 5 is reportedly locked in but have not been confirmed yet, Cardi B who is featured on a song with the band was rumored to be joining them, but that looks like it won’t be the case . It’s quite clear nobody wants Scott to do the show, and it would entirely put a stain on what was a stellar year for the rapper. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Christmas didn’t stop Love and Hip-Hop New York from giving us the weekly shenanigans we need. Last night’s episode picks up with a reminder that Cyn Santana’s and Joe Budden’s romantic getaway was not the fix they thought it would be. Joe has a problem with Cyn because he feels like he’s the only one who cleans around the house. Meanwhile, Cyn is kicking it with her sisters at the house (as Joe cleans) trying to get them to do her dirty work—no pun intended—by questioning Joe about when he plans to propose. Joe Budden says he will propose when he’s ready but wants Cyn to take some of her “wifely duties around the house seriously.” Cyn knows who he is so, whatevs. Let’s fast forward a bit. Kimbella and Juju link up for a kiki, and Juju once again tries to convince Kimbella to put her differences aside with Yandy since she’s about to be going through a similar situation. Kimbella is fronting like she doesn’t want to but we know she will. Later on, Mendeecees calls Yandy from prison to tell her that he spoke to Juelz Santana and doesn’t like the situation between Yandy and Kimbella and that they should talk. Yandy isn’t really into it but we know she’s going to try, begrudgingly, of course. MariahLynn is back, talking about how she’s serious about her career and committed to not acting like a wild cassowary for the sake of pursuing her dreams and all the mouths she has to feed (her mom, sisters, and nephew). She meets up with Cyn and Nya Lee where they all wax poetic about their grind and their goals. Cyn even says she’s back in the music game and she has been asking Joe to write her a song for over a year but it hasn’t come to fruition yet. However, he did encourage her to take vocal lessons, which she obliges. But then MariahLynn informs her that Joe posted a video online where he filmed all her junk and complained about her not cleaning up. Cyn wasn’t aware of this, but she is now. So, Cyn meets up with Joe later on for a nice meal and to call him out about making her look crazy. He tells her to get up and clean. She says she doesn’t have time due to the baby and then Joe brings up the fact that he has been asking her to get a nanny for a while because they need the help. Her response is, “Where am I supposed to find a nanny I can trust?” as if they don’t have money and resources enough to hire a professional. She basically gets defensive and he’s coming across as condescending which makes Cyn even more upset, and that’s that. Problem not solved. Where’s Dr. Jeff Gardere when you need him? Next, Safaree and Jaquae come face to face again at a showcase after MariahLynn performs, and manage to squash their situation. Then Nya Lee gets a moment to address a problem she has with DJ Self. She says Self never put her on to any of his platforms and that she looked up to him as a brother so how could he diss her like that. Meanwhile, Self is looking like: Because they’re not that close in his mind. Basically, Nya feels ignored and entitled. Self says she could have come to him in private since she felt they were “so close.” Nya gets mad then goes all the way in with the theatrics. She is trying to get that intro credit love next season! Jonathan’s father recently passed which made him all soft and pink and missing all his friends he fell out with. So, he texts Cyn, Yandy, Juju, and Kimbella to meet up with him. Juju is super confused given that they’re still not quite on good terms. This is about Jonathan trying to reconcile with people who he feels it’s worth saving the relationship since life is short and all that jazz. Kimbella hasn’t arrived by the time Jonathan starts talking about how he has been misusing anxiety pills by mixing them with alcohol and how that has affected his behavior negatively. He goes on to apologize for wilding out on them and expresses that he misses his friends. Juju says she’s ready to forgive and move and then Kimbella comes through. Jonathan apologizes to her too and goes over the spiel again. Kimbella is willing to forgive him while Yandy is just sitting there looking like something stinks the entire time. Once Kimbella and Jonathan get settled, Juju says it’s time for them to address the elephant in the room. Yandy gets all triggered and stank and replies, “Like the elephant can address it herself.” She pulls Kimbella to the side because she doesn’t want to do this in front of them even though they’ll be able to hear the conversation. They start talking at each other again about who did what and who is talking to who the rudest, etc. Eventually, Yandy brings it down a bit and actually tries to offer Kimbella support but Kimbella says she doesn’t want it and maintains that Yandy is fake. In Kimbella’s world, Yandy likes to be a social media friend, meaning that she’ll post pictures and captions on social about how she loves them and wishes them well but won’t actually be there. So, that’s that. They don’t move past anything and Kimbella sashes away with an attitude. They’ll probably be beating this horse again and again. Anyway, see you next week for Love and Hip-Hop Miami and in two weeks for the return of Love and Hip-Hop New York . Source: Prince Williams/WireImage / Getty It’s still girls trip time on tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta . We pick p with Marlo trying to impose her “stylist” skills on Shamari, claiming she needs a fashion update and an upgrade. Shamarai doesn’t take too kindly at first because it does seem like Marlo is being shady and not really trying to help, but eventually, she just goes along with it. The outfit ends up being some jeans, a giant scarf looking thing draped over Shamari as a shirt and a gigantic beach hat. Nene accurately calls the obvious thing out—it really just looks like an outfit Marlo would wear, some stylist she is. It’s raining out so Nene figures out how to turn all that pinned up shade into something a little more productive—a game called “B—h Stole My Talent.” It’s basically a battle of the talents competition series where the group will judge who wins. Marlo and Tanya compete as the fashion queens. They model outfits and the group chooses Tanya as the winner. Then it’s Cynthia and Eva in a walk-off since they’re the models. Cynthia wins and it’s a unanimous decision, which says a lot because you know how Eva is always trying to come for Cynthia’s so-called dated modeling skills. Shamari and Kandi have a sing-off and while both women can sing, Shamari brings it by singing “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” while Kandi falls flat—pun intended—with an original piece that had all of us scratching our heads. Anyway, Shamari wins. Finally, Porsha and Nene will be judged by who hosted the best and Nene takes the gold. It’s all love though, for now. The next day they split up for various activities. Kandi, Eva, and Sharmari end up doing aerial pilates while Cynthia, NeNe, Tanya, and Marlo get a massage. Porsha misses all the fun because she’s not feeling well and the latter group of women figured out that she’s probably pregnant because her behavior has made it obvious and they noticed weight gain in her belly. Cynthia even brings up making her take a pregnancy test and we hope not because, mind your business. NeNe visits Porsha back at the house and cuts to the chase. Porsha lies and says, “She hasn’t checked yet” (she took a home pregnancy test but is still awaiting her first official doctor appointment) but NeNe knows what’s up. She says she’s not going to say anything, but she’s super excited and tells Porsha that the other women are on to her. That’s when Porsha shows NeNe a Coca-Cola and apple juice concoction that she put in a Hennessey bottle that she plans to drink to throw the group off because she realizes that she has been looking suspect. Fast forward to dinner. Porsha pulls out the Hennessey and leads a toast as everyone else drinks champagne. It’s odd that she would go from an “alcohol fast” to pulling liquor out of her purse for a toast, but it seems to work. It all goes downhill shortly after that when Marlo and Shamari go at it. Basically, Shamari says she didn’t appreciate Marlo’s aggressiveness about switching p her wardrobe. Marlo thinks she’s Shamari’s style savior and that Shamari should be grateful. It gets so intense that Shamari calls Marlo a “b—h” because she had time. Then Marlo fires back with, “Yo’ mama” (loosely translated) and that’s when the other women in the group jump in and try to calm things down. Finally, they make it through the dinner with wigs and fragile egos kinda sorta intact.
