President Obama is taking the American Jobs Act (AJA) on the road to the people with whom it will resonate most: the currently unemployed; young people in college facing a slow jobs market; and veterans back home looking for work. He is at his best in this environment. It’s what I wish he would have done more of during the horrid debt-ceiling debate. He’s not out there peddling high hopes, either…. Promo teases a kinder, gentler head judge … before showing Cowell will be no such thing on new show this fall. By James Dinh The “X Factor” judges Photo: Ray Mickshaw / FOX America got its first taste of Simon Cowell’s highly anticipated American “X Factor” series (premiering September 21) during a new TV spot that aired on Fox Tuesday night (July 12) during the Major League Baseball’s 82nd All-Star Game, and as expected, the teaser was nothing short of over-the-top. The almost three-minute promo begins on an eerily positive note as judges Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid are approached by a young girl on the first day of auditions. “Hi. What’s your name, sweetheart?” Adbul asks the contestant, who replies, “Lillian,” and Cowell wishes her luck. After she delivers a less-than-mediocre rendition of “Annie” classic “Tomorrow,” the judges — including Simon — lavishly praise Lillian. The promo pans to shots of the panel greeting a line of fans while Cowell delivers some inspiring lines. “Let’s face it: A year is a long time,” he says, as we see him uncharacteristically smiling and shaking hands like a politician. “We’ll change your attitudes and this is a different decade. It’s not about me anymore. It’s about them. I want to make people’s dreams come true. “I even think about the environment,” Cowell continues, as he gets into a Chevy Volt (one of several blatant Chevy product placements in the ad). “My attitude this year? Helping others make a better tomorrow.” If viewers didn’t notice the comic nature of Simon’s words, they sure caught wind when the series of terrible “Tomorrow” auditions pile up in a distorted montage, until he wakes up from the dream. Following glamour shots of the four judges stepping out of private planes as Guns N’ Roses’ “Live and Let Die” blasts in the background, we finally get a glimpse of some not-so-scripted footage from the forthcoming reality competition. Now there’s loads of critical feedback from Cowell and Reid, while Scherzinger and Abdul appear moved by some auditioners. Not only is the acerbic Simon back, but so is the unpredictable Paula, and we see her gushing over a singer, shoving a cup out of Simon’s hand and snapping back at an audience member. “What else did you expect?” Cowell asks the camera, as the ad comes to a close. Fabolous says he has always wanted to perform on the Brooklyn Bridge; so that is exactly what he did! Fab’s very own VEVO Go show featured him performing “Ya’ll Don’t Hear Me Tho” off The S.O.U.L Tape with only a boom box and camera on freezing cold day. “I’ve never done this before. I’ve never walked over the bridge,” said Loso. “I definitely think it’s like part of hip-hop, even down to the boombox. I just wanted to do something that was different, even for me. Create a room or nook where you can reflect, be quiet, go inside, and get centered. In your daily life, you have so much to think about and to do. Between work, children, and errands, you hardly have a moment for yourself. This is why you must have a special place to renew your connection with your inner self and spirit. When you create a place in your home that encourages quietness, it will call out to your soul “Come, sit and listen.” Mindbodygreen.com suggests the following eight ideas for creating a sacred space: Quiet Is Where You Find The Real You 1. Convert an attic or guest room or simply create a corner or window seat in your living area that is dedicated to self-nourishment. A space that you deem “sacred” immediately sets the tone for going inward. 2. Hang a screen, beads, or billowy curtain to emphasize the importance of the environment as a place of solitude. This sacred space can be used to receive inner guidance and knowledge as well as to write, draw, paint, chant, play an instrument, or simply listen to birds sing outside. 3. To set the mood for contemplation, meditation, or prayer, place pillows on the floor or find a comfortable chair that supports your back. 4. Set up an altar with spiritual objects to bring in the energy of spirituality. Each object can be placed with an intention for going deep within your heart and soul. Ludacris announced on his Facebook page, “I’m going to change my oil and change the world! I’m switching to a GREEN high performance made-in-America motor oil, G-OIL.” For those unfamiliar with G-OIL, it is an alternative to fossil fuel that is noted to be safer for the environment. The eco-friendly fuel is reportedly “made of a blend of nature’s American grown base oils and the first U.S. produced ultimate biodegradable bio-based motor oil to be approved by the American Petroleum Institute.” Luda’s switch to green didn’t just come out of the blue. Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed, Jarobi reveal to MTV News why they lost ‘trust’ in director Michael Rapaport and share e-mail from producers that prompted ‘red flags.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip Photo: MTV News Q-Tip is finally telling his side of the story regarding Beats, Rhymes and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, the Michael Rapaport-directed documentary about the legendary group that premiered at Sundance in January. MTV News’ Sway Calloway sat down exclusively with A Tribe Called Quest members Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi, who called in by phone, on Monday (March 14) and the group opened up about the misgivings they’ve been having regarding the doc. Up until now, fans had mostly been privy to Tip’s online commentary, but they went into detail about some of the “red flags” that led them to reconsider their support of the film. (Tribe member Phife was not present.) According to Q-Tip, on December 17, 2010, a couple of weeks after he initially expressed concern about the film, an e-mail was accidently sent to him by one of the producers that read as follows: “First off let’s close the Billing Block and put it on the poster so they can’t get on that. Then we’ll f— them on everything else.” Seated next to Ali in our newsroom, Q-Tip contended that the e-mail conversation clearly stemmed from the group’s early concern about not being credited as producers on the film. “I mean, what you think?” Q-Tip responded rhetorically when Sway asked about his immediate reaction to the e-mail message. “I mean, automatically you revert back, because this is some hip-hop sh– ultimately.” But the rapper didn’t “revert” and violence was averted. Still, Q-Tip maintained that despite this point of contention, the group was still participating in the film’s production and were awaiting edits they requested be made. Our interview also contradicted Rapaport’s assertions to MTV News that Q-Tip was speaking for himself and not the group. Tip said another grievance he had with the filmmaker was the questionable timing of the documentary trailer’s leaking to the Internet. The nearly five-minute preview clip was also erroneously titled, he said. “The same day of the announcement that it came to Sundance, that ‘Beats, Rhymes & Fights’ trailer came out,” Q-Tip said, referring to an earlier version of the title. “All of this stuff is going on and we’re still trying to move forward in good faith and we see this e-mail, inadvertently, which was a godsend. I believe that that was the universe giving that to us and showing us who we were dealing with.” The producers’ response to their own e-mail gaffe only made Q-Tip more agitated. “Their whole comeback to that was, ‘Oh, he’s just frustrated, everybody’s frustrated,’ ” Tip said. But he countered, “When you’re frustrated you say, ‘Yo, I’mma kick his ass. He’s an a–hole, I can’t stand him, I’mma f— him up. I can’t f— with him again.’ Those are things you say out of frustration. But when you say, ‘First off, let’s close the Billing Block and put it on the poster so they can’t get on that. Then we’ll f— them on everything else,’ that’s strategy. “That’s premeditated, first. And second, you feel comfortable to say it to the rest of your team. That means that if the environment is conducive for you to have that kind of banter and that kind of language, God knows what else they’ve been saying amongst themselves. So how can we trust them?” The only member of the group that attended the “Beats, Rhymes and Life” Sundance premiere was Phife . And in spite of the ongoing drama, A Tribe Called Quest still say Rapaport did a great job directing the film and that everyone should see it. Stick with MTV News all week as we reveal more of our interview with A Tribe Called Quest and their concerns about the “Beats, Rhymes and Life” documentary. Related Artists A Tribe Called Quest
‘He had a mild allergic reaction while they were wrapping up last night on the set of ‘CSI,’ ‘ Bieber’s rep tells E! By Kara Warner Justin Bieber on the set of “CSI” Photo: CBS Justin Bieber is really committing to his acting — so much so that it landed him in the hospital Wednesday. According to E! Online , the 16-year-old superstar developed breathing trouble while filming scenes for his upcoming appearance on “CSI.” But never fear, Beliebers: The Best New Artist Grammy nominee is just fine. His breathing trouble was apparently caused by an allergic reaction, for which Bieber received insta-treatment at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, on Wednesday evening. “He is fine,” Bieber’s rep told E! on Thursday (January 13). “He had a mild allergic reaction while they were wrapping up last night on the set of ‘CSI.’ His doctor met him at the hospital to make sure everything was OK. He was released within the hour after his doctor declared him fine. He is back on set working today. All is well.” Judging by Bieber’s tweets last night — in which he made no mention of a hospital visit and instead posed a series of random questions to fans — he wasn’t too bothered by his earlier troubles. “If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?” he tweeted. Followed by: “Ok ok…if you could be the greatest athlete or the greatest entertainer which would u be? tough one.” Then: “And the toughest question of the night….fresh sheets or fresh socks??? #epicquestion.” On Thursday, he tweeted this confident missive about being back on “CSI”: “Ok last day on the set as a #badass. Gonna get deadly today.” Apparently all is indeed well with the Biebs. Phew. What are you expecting from Bieber’s return to “CSI”? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Justin Bieber
