Homemade Chinese Robots: Raw Video

Self-taught Chinese inventor Wu Yulu has a passion for tinkering, which has brought him and his robots worldwide fame and a slot at the World Expo in Shanghai. Wu, who is to present a handful of bespoke robots specifically for the Expo along with dozens of his old favourites, says he is proud to represent his own brand of Chinese pioneering spirit at the international event. “My advantage is that I am not really cultured and I am just a farmer. But I was invited to go to the Expo and present my creations. Even though it was just me who was invited, I represent all of China's farmers. I think this is something very glorious,” said Wu. Born to a family of farmers, Wu was never interested in taking up the family trade, preferring to fill his farm in Mawu village on the outskirts of Beijing with over 40 home-made whirring, ticking and talking inventions, that he refers to as his 'sons'. Wu and his automatons have become a local success, they have appeared in countless local and international TV shows and news articles. But he is all too familiar with minor catastrophes, ranging from an exploding battery that left him with concussion to managing to burn down the family home. Wu says his inventions have brought him confidence, once shy and reserved Wu no longer hides away from the limelight and is happy to discuss his peculiar knack for creating hopping, bowing and swinging toys. “By using one mechanical engine I can make them do various complex movements. As for mechanical engines, they only revolve. So the point is how do you create many intricate movements through the simple revolutions of a mechanical engine,” he said. Wu has high hopes for the Expo, he dreams of robots that can help disabled people, work in the kitchen and even give massages, which he says are all possible if he can find a suitable backer willing to support an eccentric inventor. added by: ctv

Europe flights ‘set to resume’

European officials say they hope to resume half the flights grounded by a volcanic ash cloud over the continent amid increasing pressure from airlines to lift air travel restrictions. With EU transport ministers set to hold emergency talks by video conference on Monday, Siim Kallas, the EU transport commissioner, said he hoped 50 per cent of European airspace would be risk-free on Monday, adding that “we cannot wait until the ash flows just disappear”. Diego Lopez Garrido, the Spanish secretary of state for European affairs, said “forecasts are that half of the flights planned [in Europe] could take place tomorrow [Monday]”. But he cautioned that “it will be difficult”, telling reporters after a meeting at Eurocontrol “that's why we have to co-ordinate”. added by: BRAVATRAVELS

London Heathrow Airport Shuts Down.

Five countries have officially shut their air space operations as volcanic ash swept their clear blue sky. Britain and Ireland were the first to close down their aviation, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands followed suit as ashes coming from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano is feared to endanger air travel by reducing visibility, damaging flight controls, and clogging jet engines.  So far, It is not known when they will re-open. In London alone, authorities from Heathrow airport has confirmed that atleast tens of thousands of passengers around the world will be affected as all flights were suspended . Today, officials from Heathrow has issued a statement that passengers who are due to fly should contact their airline for re-booking information and that all flights due today are cancelled until further notice. The sudden closure has cause chaos and havoc amongst passenger as Heathrow, being Europe’s busiest airport, has more than 1,200 flights a day. London Heathrow Airport or commonly called the Heathrow airport is located in the London borough of Hillingdon. It is the largest and busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the entire European Union. It is the seccond busiest airport int he world and handles more international flights than any other airport in the world.  The airport is owned and operated by BAA. U.S. Finally Catches Up With Guinea Bissau Drug "Kingpins"

This week the US accused two senior military men from Guinea Bissau of being major “drug kingpins.” Guinea Bissau is a major transit point for cocaine smuggled from Latin America to Europe. The idea that senior government leaders are involved in the country’s drug trade is nothing new. With chronic poverty, rampant corruption and loose borders, Guinea Bissau has proved to be a willing partner in flooding Europe with cocaine. For years, the tiny West African country has been plagued with bad government. In fact, when I produced “Cocaine Mafia” for Vanguard last year, I originally planned to shoot it in Guinea Bissau. However, shortly before we planned to leave last March, the army chief of staff, Gen. Batista Thagme Na Waie, was assassinated in an explosion. A few hours later, President Vieira was brutally hacked to death with machetes. While neither murder was ever solved, it is widely believed that both men were rivals for control of the country’s cocaine trade. Trafficking dropped in the aftermath, possibly because drug lords no longer knew who could guarantee their security, and we decided to focus our story on where the cocaine went from there as a result. We instead traveled to southern Italy, where African smugglers gain easy access to the European continent. When we reached the tiny town of Castel Volturno, one of the largest cocaine trafficking hubs in Europe, we felt as if we had stumbled into a slum that could just as easily be located in Guinea Bissau. Castel Volturno is a notoriously lawless town, overwhelmed with poor immigrants and controlled by the local mafia. I've reported from a lot of hot spots in the world, but Castel Volturno oozes with a special eeriness. We were searching for a drug trade that was practically invisible, but all the time we could feel the watchful eye of the Camorra, the local mafia, whenever we moved. People were often afraid to talk to us about cocaine or who was running the place, but we pursued every angle we could while our unseen targets watched us. Whitney Houston Denies Drug Rumors After Postponing Tour Dates

By Gil Kaufman Whitney Houston Photo: MTV News Just a day after postponing a number of dates on her European tour, Whitney Houston denied rumors that the shows were called off because of possible drug relapse. “I’m feeling great … I’m read to move on and continue my world tour,” the 46-year-old singer, who has acknowledged a struggle with drug addiction in the past, told People magazine. On Wednesday, Houston postponed a handful of dates because she was reportedly suffering from an upper respiratory infection and had been advised by her doctors not to perform. She was scheduled to perform on Thursday and Friday in Manchester, England, at the Manchester Evening News Arena, but has pushed back those shows until June 16 and 17. She rescheduled this Sunday’s concert in Glasgow, Scotland, for May 1, and had previously called off Tuesday’s show in Paris. The singer was hospitalized for what was described as an upper respiratory infection earlier this week, which led to the scotching of the first four shows on her European tour and tabloid speculation that she had slipped back into drug-taking. She called such reports “ridiculous,” adding, “at this point, I just don’t respond. I don’t even read it.” She explained that she checked into a hospital in Paris on doctor’s orders, blaming the illness on her seasonal allergies. “My health is terrific,” she said. “But this is a time when I get a lot of allergies.” The tour is now slated to pick up again on Tuesday, April 13, in Birmingham, England, and go through June. “I’m doing what I love to do, which is singing,” Houston said. “The best part is seeing all of my fans around the world.” In February, after some fans and critics said Houston was out of breath and had trouble hitting notes during her concerts in Australia, her rep denied that she was having health trouble. “Whitney is in great health and having a terrific time on her tour and with her fans,” the publicist told E! Whitney Houston Should Take Time To Recover

purepeople Former fashion model, singer and actress Whitney Houston is taking time to recover from a respiratory illness as adviced by doctors and is postponing her European tour. Scheduled originally for Tuesday in Paris, France, Houston had already held back the European kickoff.  According to the representative,doctors advised the singer to statement from a representative said doctors advised Houston to reschedule concerts on Thursday and Friday in Manchester, England, and a Sunday performance in Glasgow, Scotland. All concert dates are being rescheduled and the 46-year-old singer’s tour is now supposed to start next Tuesday in Birmingham, England. “Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection,” the statement read. “Upon medical advice Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover.” The statement noted she delayed the tour with a “great disappointment.” Houston, is one of pop’s all-time best-selling artists. Had been on a hiatus from music as she battled drug addiction and ended a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown. But with her new CD, “I Look to You,” she returned on the top of the charts and declared herself healthy and free from substance abuse. The superstar has been on a world tour to promote the CD, which has sold more than 1 million copies in the United States alone. Performances,however, in Australia and elsewhere were negatively received by some fans and critics, who complained Houston did not showcase the majestic voice she is known for. Video snippets of her performances showed Houston sweating and struggling to hit notes, leading some to wonder about her health. As Per Study, Chocolate Could Reduce Heart Risk

By MARIA CHENG AP Medical Writer Chocolates LONDON (AP) – As per study, the Easter Bunny might lower your chances of having a heart problem which small doses of chocolate every day could decrease your risk of having a heart attack or stroke by nearly 40 percent. Nearly 20,000 people over eight years, sending them several questionnaires about their diet and exercise habits according to German researchers. According to researcher, People who had an average of six grams of chocolate per day – or about one square of a chocolate bar – had a 39 percent lower risk of either a heart attack or stroke.
