Pac-Man Figure Seen in Mimas

The Cassini spacecraft orbiting around Saturn has captured an interesting and intriguing new view of the tiny moon Mimas. Mimas is a moon of Saturn that was discovered in 1789 by William Herschel. The name Mimas was taken from a son of Gaia in Greek mythology. It is the 20th largest moon in the solar system by diameter but, it is known to be the smallest astronomical body. The moon is about 400km (250miles) across. It has a typical and distinctive feature of colossal impact crater called Herschel. The probe evaluated that there was temperature differences across the moon’s surface and it produced a map which looks like the 1980s Pac-man video game icon. Scientist were still uncertain for the reason why Mimas displayed such variations, however, it may have a probable relationship to the variety of textures present in the surface materials. Some textures maybe capable of retaining heat better than others. Cassini is a joint venture between the US space agency (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI). The mission was extended until 2017. Pac-Man Figure Seen in Mimas is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Cube Guys Hype Up WMC 2010 Crowd With ‘Scarface’ Sample, Coolio Remix

Their song ‘Scarcube,’ which samples Al Pacino lines from the movie, is a contender for this year’s WMC anthem. By Adam Stewart The Cube Guys Photo: MTV News The Cube Guys embrace an unmistakable sound that incorporates an eclectic blend of tribal house, electro house, fidget house and many other subgrenes that has consistently kept fans on their toes. The Italian duo first broke into the electronic-music scene back at the Winter Music Conference in 2005 with their club smash “Electro” and have been going strong ever since. WMC has been a perennial playground for the pair, who spent some time with MTV News after their set this year at Gansevoort Beach at the Stereo Recordings Playa party along with Chus and Ceballos . The Cube Guys, made up of Roberto Biffi and Luca Provera, dropped a monster anthem to start their set in front of an enthusiastic, bikini-clad crowd. The song, called “Scarcube,” is a strong contender for the WMC track of 2010 . The deeply sinister electro house track samples iconic Al Pacino lines from the film “Scarface.” “That’s a new track from us. It’s crazy, because we cut up all the Pacino voices, and we then built all of the tracks on top of it,” Provera recalled. “Everywhere we spin it, the people go crazy. They ask, ‘What is that? What is that? When is it coming out?’ We’re so surprised about it, but we love it, and we hope that it will have a good future. ‘Scarface’ is the Miami movie, so why not?” The fans packed 20 deep in front of the stage and fully embraced what is sure to become a Miami anthem. They then seamlessly segued into another new release, a huge remix of Coolio’s “Fantastic Voyage,” giving new life to the song that went double-platinum back in 1994 by putting their signature spin on the classic vocal and incorporating electronic horns and a driving beat. “We officially landed the remix of Coolio with Universal Records, so we’re really happy about it!” Provera said. Rihanna Takes Drum Lessons From Travis Barker Before Tour

‘She jams! Watch out for her,’ Barker tweets. By James Montgomery Rihanna and Travis Barker Photo: Travis Barker Rihanna ‘s European tour doesn’t kick off until next month (with a full U.S. jaunt scheduled for the summer), but from the looks of things it’s already shaping up to be a can’t-miss show. That’s because, in addition to the usual ephemera — Lights! Props! Costumes! — Rih Rih is also expanding her repertoire for the tour by learning how to play the drums. And she’s taking lessons from one of the best in the business: noted metronome/masher Travis Barker . Late Tuesday (March 23), Barker’s reps sent MTV News a photo of the dynamic duo after a recent practice at the Hollywood Center Studios and the Blink-182 smasher included a note that promised that not only will Rihanna be playing live onstage (no click track here), but that “she’s really good.” He later posted even more about the rehearsals on his Twitter account , writing, “She Jams! Watch out for her!” We’re inclined to believe him because at this point, Barker has collaborated with practically everyone under the sun, including his current gig with DJ A-Trak , which he unveiled earlier this month with a string of shows at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. Rihanna’s European tour gets underway April 16 in Antwerp, Belgium, and runs until early June. She’s also set to perform at the upcoming Kids’ Choice Awards, along with the likes of Justin Bieber. There are no firm dates for her U.S. tour, but it is reportedly set to kick off this summer. Volcano erupts in southern Iceland

REYKJAVIK, Iceland – Authorities evacuated hundreds of people after a volcano erupted beneath a glacier in southern Iceland, Iceland's civil protection agency said Sunday. Aviation officials said the nation's main airport was closed because of risk to aircraft flying through any ash plume, aviation officials told BNO News. Two Icelandair flights from the United States were diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, and another flight didn't leave Boston, BNO News reported. The eruption occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday (1930 EDT) beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, the fifth-largest glacier in Iceland. The volcano is covered by an ice cap. Fearing flooding from the glacier melt, authorities evacuated some 400 people in the area 100 miles southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, as a precaution but no damage or injuries have been reported, said Vidir Reynisson, the department manager for the Icelandic Civil Protection Department. A state of emergency has been declared in communities near the 100-square-mile glacier. “We do not at this moment know the full extent of the eruption but a team is flying over the site now to evaluate the situation,” said Reynisson. A European volcanic island in the North Atlantic, Iceland is largely an arctic desert with mountains, glaciers and volcanoes and agricultural areas in the lowlands close to the coastline. The last time the volcano erupted was in the 1820s. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35968232/ns/world_news-europe/ added by: idealist

Maria Belen Rodriguez Cozzani Bikini Pictures

I’ve been known to occasionally put up pictures of obscure European celebrities hanging out in their tiny European bikinis, this is one of those moments. Here’s Italian(?) hottie/actress Maria Belen Rodriguez Cozzani giving herself a suntan rub down in her little black bathing suit on the beach. So hot, I especially like her cheesy stripper butterfly tattoo, it reminds me of my mom. I have no clue who this chick is, but I like what I’m seeing. Her name is a bit of a mouthful, but so is her…. You know the rest.

US backs ban on bluefin tuna trade

The US government announced yesterday that it supports prohibiting international trade of Atlantic bluefin tuna, a move that could lead to the most sweeping trade restrictions ever imposed on the highly prized fish. Sushi aficionados in Japan and elsewhere have consumed bluefin for decades, causing the fish’s population to plummet. In less than two weeks, representatives from 175 countries will convene in Doha, Qatar, to determine whether to restrict the trade of bluefin tuna – valued for its rich, buttery taste – and an array of other imperiled species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Japan, the world’s largest bluefin consumer, opposes the idea of trade restrictions, while the European Union has yet to take a formal position. Over the past 40 years, the adult population of eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna has declined 72 percent. In the western Atlantic, the population has dropped 82 percent. The declines occurred even though bluefin fishing was being governed by an international panel that sets catch quotas and is supposed to curtail illegal fishing. added by: jefftego

Lady Gaga Adds European Tour Dates, Announces U.S. Arena Tour

Singer will take Monster Ball back to Europe after hitting Australia. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Florian Seefried/ Getty Images Lady Gaga loves her overseas little monsters so much, she decided to add more dates to the European jaunt of her Monster Ball Tour . The tour was scheduled to wrap March 8 in the UK before picking up in Australia for a number of dates. But Gaga will head back to Europe in May for 10 new dates, as well as two rescheduled dates. It was also announced that Gaga will embark on her first major arena tour when she returns to North America this June, hitting 30 cities. More info is coming soon. Gaga will be on the road with glam-rock band Semi Precious Weapons, who recently spoke to MTV News about what it’s like to the opening act for the woman who was once their opening act at club gigs in New York. “When we met her, we were doing shows here bringing, like, 300 people or so, and we were looking for bands to open for us,” bassist Cole Whittle recalled. “They were all boring, but she was fun and partied, and her and [Gaga’s performing partner] Lady Starlight had a really cool show. We were like, ‘I’d much rather see this than some hipster band.’ ” So they opted to do the future pop star a favor and have her join them for their shows. Despite the fact that she was playing to very small crowds, she was beyond thankful for the spot. “She was big fans of ours before we met her. She was so grateful to be playing with us, ’cause she loved us so much,” singer Justin Tranter said. “She was like, ‘I’ve never seen so many people! Thank you so much for letting me open.’ It’s obviously a little different now. Them tables have turned! [Back then,] it was still the most awesome thing we’d ever seen. It’s still the most awesome show we ever saw. She’s always been the coolest girl!” New European dates for Monster Ball Tour:

Adam Lambert Says Susan Boyle’s Album Made Him Laugh

‘I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible,’ Lambert says of LP that outsold his own. By Jocelyn Vena Adam Lambert Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage When Adam Lambert released his debut album For Your Entertainment in November, he was able to best both Rihanna and pal Lady Gaga on the albums chart. But he was still outsold by one other reality show contestant: Susan Boyle. “I know, if only it weren’t for Susan Boyle!” the “American Idol” alum joked in the March issue of the U.K.’s Gay Times magazine “I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible. [The cover of the Rolling Stones’] ‘Wild Horses’ is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it. I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song!” And though his criticism of Boyle’s album sounds harsh, Lambert is more intent on silencing his own critics. “Still, when my album charted, it was validating,” he added. “I was feeling bit attacked, like I had to vindicate something. I thought: ‘Wow, look what I did.’ ” Three months after his American Music Awards performance , Lambert told the magazine that he’s still surprised by the public’s response to the show. “It catches me off guard,” he said. “In my circle, and in a lot of the underground clubs and performance spaces in Los Angeles nobody thinks twice about it, they love it. Then I gave what I thought was a harmless performance and everybody jumps down my throat about it. And I’m like, ‘Sorry, I didn’t realize it was going to be that big a deal.'” Lambert also didn’t think his glam album cover for For Your Entertainment would be so talked about. “With the soft focus, and the retouching nobody would have said a word [if it was a girl on the cover],” he said. “Here in the States, a lot of people are really uncomfortable with it, which is hilarious.” Earlier this month, Lambert told MTV News that he was excited to tour overseas, where he thinks his on- and offstage antics won’t seem so controversial. “I think the European audiences are generally a little more liberal,” he said. “I’m sure there are certain things that I do that won’t upset people as much as they do here.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Adam Lambert Related Photos MTV News’ 2009 Men Of The Year: #3 Adam Lambert MTV News’ 2009 Women Of The Year: #8 Susan Boyle Related Artists Adam Lambert Susan Boyle
