Who Won Dancing with the Stars?

Ten weeks and a dozen and a half routines later, Season 10 of Dancing With the Stars has finally come to an end. The winner of the coveted Mirrorball trophy was unveiled Tuesday, with three contestants remaining entering the night. Would it be Evan Lysacek, limber Olympic figure skating gold medalist, looking to add the famed Mirrorball to burgeoning trophy case? Would it be Nicole Scherzinger, the lovely lead Pussycat Doll and lord of the Dancing With the Stars season from beginning to end? Would it be Erin Andrews, embattled ESPN reporter turned ballroom aficionado, and a woman who everyone has to be rooting for? All three made compelling cases this Spring, but there can be only one winner. Follow the jump to see who took home the Dancing with the Stars title … Nicole Scherzinger! Dominant most of the season, she and Derek Hough managed to maintain and even build their lead against Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya in their last dance. They received a perfect 30 for their jive, Len’s claim that Nicole deserved to be the winner of the competition and a hug from Gladys Knight. It was theirs to lose. Erin finished third, and Evan just fell short in his bid to succeed fellow Olympians Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson as the Mirrorball winner. Nicole Scherzinger deserved it, though, beyond any doubt. The odds were in Nicole and Derek’s favor, but there have been seasons when the highest-scoring star hasn’t taken home the top prize, so you never really can tell. Thanks to Evan, Erin and Nicole, Dancing with the Stars viewers may have been the biggest winners in this 10th season of competition – it was the best season yet. As for the two hours of filler, we got to see the eliminated contestants make their returns and keep the energy up and moving for their performances throughout. Well, with the exception of Kate Gosselin , who showed up for a revamped version of her much-maligned “Paparazzi” paso doble and to shill her two new shows. In a very odd move, Kate got on some kind of lift with a camera on it, and literally rose up above the audience to … somewhere. It was hard to tell. Who cares. The cheesiest moment of the night went to Jake Pavelka, who waltzed onto the ballroom floor and traded his partner Chelsie for real-life fiancee Vienna Girardi . If that weren’t enough, the dance was set to Jeffrey Osbourne’s “On the Wings of Love” … the theme of Jake’s season of The Bachelor . You may vomit when ready. But back to the champions. Let’s salute Nicole and Derek on a job well done, and a trophy well-earned. Click to enlarge some of their best Dancing moments …

Dancing with the Stars Finale, Part I: Who’s Tapping Towards Victory?

We’re just nanoseconds away from Dancing with the Stars ‘s 10th season finale. Who’ll walk off with the life-size platinum sculpture “Bruno Tonioli Descending a Pile of Thai Men”? Could it be Nicole Scherzinger, the reliable Pussycat Doll? What about Evan Lysacek, who has the personality of a Felix the Cat clock? Or could ESPN personality Erin Andrews come from behind with a victory? We’ve posted their two performances (a “freestyle” and a “redemption” dance, where the contestants retry a flub from earlier in the season), put in our two cents, and rewritten the judges’ comments for your pleasure. Spoiler: A certain Olympian goes a little Tonya Harding in the membrane.

Dancing with the Stars: Erin Andrews Ties Nicole Scherzinger, But Who Will Voters Choose?

Might Erin Andrews have pulled off an incredible Dancing with the Stars upset? In our finals preview yesterday, we listed her as a long shot against favorite Nicole Scherzinger and dark horse Evan Lysacek, each of whom are more skilled. Somebody either forgot to tell Erin she was the underdog heading into last night’s final performances, or did tell her and provided her bulletin board material. Erin Andrews tied Nicole with an aggregate 55, meaning it really will come down to every last vote. Can she muster enough support to win the Mirror Ball? Teaming with Maksim Chmerkovskiy on a Samba to kick off the night, Erin scored a 29. Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya got a 28 on the Viennese Waltz. Nicole and Derek Hough’s Rumba netted a 28. In the freestyle round, Nicole made up one point on Erin, tying for the overall lead. Evan faltered somewhat. Erin Andrews mauls Maksim Chmerkovskiy in bed. Art imitating life? If Scherzinger still has a slight edge, it’s because she and Derek went for the toughest moves, almost resulting in Nicole falling off his shoulders at one point. Erin and Maks, meanwhile, chose to do a lyrical freestyle, which seemed So You Think You Can Dance -esque with props and unadulterated sexual chemistry. So can Erin actually pull off the upset on tonight’s results show – when Kate Gosselin returns , Vienna Girardi debuts and the season winner is unveiled at last? She earned consideration at the very least. Nicole will likely get the title and it will be well-earned, but she won’t run away with it. Last night’s full scorecard: Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Samba: 29. Freestyle: 26. Total: 55 . Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough: Rumba: 28. Freestyle: 27. Total: 55 . Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya: Waltz: 28. Freestyle: 24. Total: 52 . Click to enlarge some more photos from last night … Who do you want to win Dancing with the Stars?

Dancing with the Stars: The Finals Preview

Dancing with the Stars names its 10th champions tomorrow. Who will win it? Only three tandems are left vying for the Mirror Ball when they take the floor tonight. It’s now or never for Erin, Maks, Nicole, Derek, Evan and Anna. There are no cumulative scores, so any faltering tonight could be devastating, even to the favorite. Below, we break down the dancers left standing on the final night of competition, their strengths and weaknesses, and their odds of bringing home the glory … Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Why they’ll win: Sex appeal. Chemistry. Being a hoot to watch. Unquestionably the most attractive and fun pair all season long, Erin and Maks have earned their place in the finals with performances that are technically rigorous as well. Why they won’t: This isn’t to suggest the judges have it in for Erin, but they sort of do. Off-the-charts heat doesn’t translate to higher scores – rarely they matched Nicole or Evan’s totals. If they did tonight, it would be a surprise. A hot surprise . Odds: 20-1 Can either Erin or Evan pull a huge upset in this week’s finals? Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya Why they’ll win: Evan and Anna served notice with last week’s dances that this far from over. Nicole may be the favorite, but Evan has as many perfect 30s (two) as she does, and if they end up all square at the end of tonight, he may have a shot. Why they won’t: Nicole is still better … which is a little unfair, given that she dances for a living, but such is life. Evan needs to be nearly flawless and get some help. Odds: 5-1 Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough Why they’ll win: Woman’s got skills. Those new Pussycat Dolls have big shoes to fill. Popular and proficient, Nicole has the whole package and should get it done. And partnering with Derek Hough should help with the female audience, as well. Why they won’t: Her fan base could assume she has it wrapped up and not vote. It’s all about turnout as much as talent. Or she has a rare off night, which we doubt. Odds: 3-2 Make no mistake, this title is Nicole’s to lose . Who do you want to win Dancing with the Stars?

Dancing with the Stars Elimination: Ochocinco is 86’d

Because the voting public was left with almost no choice, Chad Ochocinco earned the boot on last night’s Dancing with the Stars . Nicole and Evan earned near-perfect scores, Erin Andrews garnered a solid third place, and Chad shirtlessly swanned into oblivion with a score of 52. Now we’re left to decide if sympathy votes for Erin will vault her ahead of Evan Lysacek for the finale, though that seems unlikely. Sigh. Time to wrap up this jive, Bergeron. Video of Chad’s elimination after the jump.

Dancing with the Stars: Can Nicole Scherzinger Be Stopped?

We’re just a quickstep away from the finals, where the awful Lady Gaga karaoke and “Spanish” costuming should reach record levels of incredibility. Last night Chad Ochocinco, Erin Andrews, Evan Lysacek, and uncontested boogie emperor Nicole Scherzinger flew into mad versions of ballroom and waltz styles. While Nicole did give the best performance of the season with her Argentina Tango– nay, the best performance in the show’s history — we saw her closest runner-up narrow the gap with wild excitement. Let’s revisit each set of performances, replay what the judges really said (at least to our ears), and begin to wave goodbye as Chad Ochocinco takes home an inevitable fourth place.

Evan Lysacek Talks to Movieline About Dancing with the Stars and Johnny Weir’s Opinions

In 2010, an Olympic gold medal in figure skating qualifies you for two distinctions: 1) undisputed world champion; 2) salsa-dancing wannabe — at least in the eyes of Dancing with the Stars ‘s judging panel. Evan Lysacek may have cleaned up in Vancouver last February against ferocious competitors Johnny Weir and Russia’s hilarious Evgeni Plushenko , but he’s just as vulnerable to America’s vote on DWTS ‘s 10th season. Last week the 24-year-old athlete suffered a slight concussion when preparing to samba with partner Anna Trebunskaya, recovering enough to earn a score of 21, his lowest yet. Just yesterday, he triumphed with a perfect 30 during his Argentine Tango. It appears Lysacek is back in the game. Movieline caught up with the gold medalist last week to discuss Dancing with the Stars , transitioning into acting roles, and Johnny Weir’s pesky snipes.

Dancing with the Stars: Couples Danced Tango and Rumba

The couples were set to dance tango and rumba for this week’s challenge. Everybody gave their best move. The Monday night’s performance show introduced the first ever “Double Score Showdown”. This allowed the judges to judge the tango and the rumba twice. Each couple received points for their technique and another set for their performance. A total of 60 points will be given for the night’s performance. Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya have garnered the highest score again, which is 52 points. This has put them at the top of the leader board for the second week in a row. Although the couple was still suffering from a little jet lag, they didn’t miss a step in their tango. It was a perfect blend of artistry and technique. Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough performed a more sensual rumba. This time, one of the judges observed Nicole to be nervous. There were a few missed steps noted. Despite of this, the judges still gave them 50 points, putting them in the second place for the second week in a row. Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood are now on the third place when Baywatch bombshell had the ballroom buzzing after her steamy and sensual rumba. Their performance received a standing ovation from the audience. The couple received 47 points. Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke had the best dance of the season. The duo received 44 points. Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy started the tango well but ended it bad. Erin was more focused on her technique. They gained 39 points. Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower performed an attacking tango. It turned out that the couple was not connected emotionally and physically. They got 38 points. Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel have dedicated their rumba to Nash’s brother Michael. Michael was killed 17 years ago. The crowd enjoyed but the judges felt the other way around. They got 36 points. Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska performed a stiff-rumba. They received 33 points. Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani received 32 points. Despite the custody battle with her ex-husband, Gosselin made a mini breakthrough and a step in the right direction, which made this her best dance of the season.
