MTV’s ‘True Life’ Hits NYC’s Zuccotti Park Tomorrow

Special airs Saturday at 6 p.m. ET; Also, activist Davey D gives MTV News an inside look at the fiery Occupy Oakland protests. By Uptin Saiidi Bryan in “True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street” In the weeks since Americans fed up with the status quo hit New York’s Zuccotti Park to protest issues like economic inequality and social injustice, the movement has spread around the globe. On Saturday at 6 p.m. ET, MTV’s special “True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street” will introduce viewers to a handful of the young demonstrators trying to bring about change. But if there’s another U.S. city that has taken to the spirit of the Occupy protests to the next level, it’s surely Oakland, California. In downtown Oakland, about 7,000 activists turned out on Wednesday for a general strike, which led to arrests and business shutdowns; the nation’s fifth largest port was even forced to close. Activist and journalist Davey D , an associate of MTV News correspondent and Oakland native Sway Calloway, has been covering the events since they first started. He told us that Wednesday’s events made a major statement. “Shutting down the port of Oakland is a huge thing that hasn’t happened in decades and hasn’t happened in Oakland in over 65 years,” Davey said. “It makes $8 million a day and the money goes toward the 1 percent. It’s a tangible movement — each day you shut down something, it delays things.” The Occupy movements are being driven largely by young Americans at a time when the unemployment rate among youths under 25 is 18 percent compared to the national rate of 9 percent. In a recent MTV survey of young adults (ages 18 to 29), 72 percent said they were afraid they might not live up to their potential, while nearly three-quarters of people agreed with the statement, “things are unfair for my generation because we have to start our careers during this economic crisis.” MTV’s special “True Life” episode follows a few supporters who fit that description, including Bryan, a high school grad from Massachusetts who doesn’t see the long-term benefit of attending college when there are few jobs to had post-graduation. When viewers meet him, he’s working to get Zuccotti Park clean after word comes down that the private park’s owners want to temporarily evict the protestors in order to fix up the property themselves. Panic spreads as Occupiers fear the eviction will be permanent. College students Kait and Caitlin, who are so nervous about not being able to find a job that they’ve recruited friends into the rally, are also featured. MTV’s ‘True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street’ airs November 5 at 6 p.m. ET. Rihanna Experiences Love, Loss In ‘We Found Love’ Video

Despite song’s sunny vibe, clip is a dark look at love and substance abuse. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna on the set of her “We Found Love” video Photo: PUSHfotografik.com/Splash News Remember how that Irish farmer got mad at Rihanna for what he deemed her “inappropriate state of undress” on the set of the “We Found Love” video ? Well, on Wednesday (October 19), fans got to see what all the fuss was about when the singer officially released the clip. Directed by Melina Matsoukas (“Hard,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy” and “Rockstar 101”), the video features British model/boxer Dudley O’Shaughnessy as Rihanna’s green-eyed love interest. The smoldering couple make their way through Belfast, Ireland, experiencing the ups and downs of love. Despite the song’s feel-good, sunny vibe, the video is a dark look at love and substance abuse. The mini-movie opens with a voice that sounds somewhat like Rihanna doing a cockney accent saying, “I saw you screaming and no one can hear. You almost feel ashamed that someone could be that important that without them, you feel like nothing. No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you. Then when it’s over, and it’s gone, you almost wish you could have all that bad stuff back, so that you could have the good.” The speech certainly foreshadows the events of the video. Perhaps inspired by films like “Trainspotting” and “Requiem for a Dream,” Rihanna and Dudley play gutter punks who are not only addicted to each other, but also drugs and partying. The video is a montage of their love affair: a dizzying mix of sweet, tender moments, sexier, naked moments and moments where both Ri and Dudley are too messed up to care much about anything but the feeling of being high, often leading to fighting. They skate, they kiss, he watches as Rihanna frolics topless in a field, they party. All the good is bookended by fights (one notably in a car) and drug-fueled benders. And, in the end, all of it becomes too much for the couple and the frustrations and pressures of their love affair begin to become more about the rush than the actual love. In the end, they can’t handle each other, and Rihanna walks out, leaving Dudley passed out on the ground barely able to do anything to win her back. Buzzworthy Finds References Aplenty In ‘We Found Love’ > > > The track, produced by Calvin Harris , is the lead single from her highly anticipated November 21 release, Talk That Talk, the follow-up to 2010’s Loud. The video is vaguely reminiscent of Rihanna’s own recollections about her past abusive relationships. In a 2009 interview with MTV News , Rihanna opened up about her choice to always be honest with her fans. “One of the big things for me, I always want to help young women and give them insight into life experiences,” she explained. “One of those things is going through an abusive relationship like I did. But that’s one thing for me. So I don’t want to be the big domestic-violence spokesperson, because that doesn’t define who I am. But if I can help young women in any way, and that being one of the things they need help with, then I’ll do that.” What do you think of Rihanna’s new video? Share your reviews in the comments! Jesus Take The Wheel: Colorado Senator Only Pays $268 Fine After Killing A Woman By Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Street

Fawking ridiculous…SMH Last December, Williams was driving a 2010 Honda CRV on U.S. Highway 385 near Amarillo with her grown son and two grandchildren in the car. Investigators said the Honda drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic, colliding with a 2003 GMC Yukon driven by an Amarillo man. The man’s wife, Brianna “Brie” Gomez, 30, was a passenger in the SUV. Gomez was flown to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where an emergency cesarean section was performed. Gomez was pronounced dead after her baby boy was delivered. The premature infant, Curran Blaec Gomez, weighed just 3 pounds at birth. He survived. He now weighs about 18 pounds. Williams’ son, Todd Williams, and his 3-year-old son were ejected from the vehicle. They were seriously injured. “While on scene Suzanne (Williams) told me that no one had been ejected from her vehicle and that everyone was extracted from the vehicle by rescue … Suzanne failed to inform me of the truth of the events that had taken place before anyone arrived on scene,” a state trooper said in an offense report obtained by the Amarillo Globe-News newspaper. Investigators determined that Williams picked up her 3-year-old grandson from the highway and placed him in a child safety seat inside her car before emergency help arrived. “All of the facts and circumstances were covered, and the grand jury determined no charges were to be brought,” said District Attorney David Green. Green told the newspaper the facts did not add up to criminal negligence. Not only were no charges brought up, but the “fine” that Senator Williams paid was a slap in the face to the victims family. A prosecutor says the Colorado state senator involved in a crash that killed a pregnant woman in the Texas Panhandle last year has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving on the wrong side of the road. Sen. Suzanne Williams paid a $200 fine and $68 in court costs, according to Hartley County Attorney Shane Turner. The Amarillo Globe-News reported Friday that Texas law allowed for the dismissal of two seat-belt citations against Williams. When 7NEWS contacted her at her home on Friday night, Williams did not wish to comment. “The case is over, that is not something I want to talk about,” Williams said. We bet you don’t wanna talk about it beyotch! You ought to be in prison somewhere with your lyin’ a$$!!! Source
