Mika: Boehner Should ‘Just Bend Over’

Has Pres. Obama’s ass-kickin’ line given license to MSM members to offer cruder commentary?  Could be, judging from Mika Brzezinski’s Morning Joe performance today, in which she suggested that House Republican leader John Boehner should “just bend over.” Mika normally plays the role of Morning Joe hall monitor, keeping the rambunctious trio of Joe Scarborough, Mike Barnicle and Willie Geist in line. But with Joe away today, it was Mika who indulged in some off-color imagery.  Prompting Mika’s remark was a clip of Boehner wondering why Pres. Obama isn’t looking for someone’s “ass to kick” on the subject of unrestrained federal spending. HAROLD FORD: The problem with his question, it’s probably himself if he’s looking, if the president’s looking for that word to kick. MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah! FORD: Because John was one of the leaders in the Republican caucus who actually voted for, we didn’t pay for the entitlement spending, the new Medicare prescription-drug plan.  We didn’t pay for the war, for the first time we go to war without paying for it in the history of the nation.  So if he’s looking for one, he might — BRZEZINSKI: Just bend over.  Just bend over. Seriously. Check out Willie Geist’s horrified reaction to Mika’s line: the look of a fourth-grader shocked to hear his revered teacher say something dirty.

Senate Protester Gives Herself the Pelican Treatment

Maybe oil companies like BP are careless with safety standards because, after devastating the tourist and fishing industries (not to mention the environment) of the Gulf, they’re on the hook for about one day’s oil profits in economic damages. In protest of that liability cap and one of the senators who wants to keep it, a woman poured “oil” on herself in Congress Wednesday. Treehugger: Diane Wilson, one of the founders of the Code Pink protest group, today anointed herself with a glass jar of toffee-colored oil at a Senate Energy Subcommittee meeting to protest, she says, Senator Lisa Murkowski’s blocking of a bill that would have lifted BP’s liability cap. President Obama had earlier in the week announced he was supporting lifting the $75 million cap, to raise it to $10 billion. Wilson was removed from the meeting and arrested, according to the Code Pink web site. Read more More about Wilson and the events on Code Pink’s website . David Sirota writes in a recent column: Considering the fact that oil-spill costs can far surpass $75 million, this is the old “too big to fail” idea propping up the oil companies. Applied specifically to the gulf cataclysm, the statute suggests that the national interest is best served by having taxpayers and communities foot the bill for the destruction rather than having companies like British Petroleum suffer the balance-sheet pain of paying the full damages. Read more The Caucus reports on efforts to raise the liability cap: At a hearing of the Environment and Public Works Committee on Wednesday, the bill’s sponsors — Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, and Bill Nelson of Florida — as well as a parade of witnesses from the Gulf region’s tourism and fishing industry demanded that BP be held responsible for every penny of pain caused by the disaster. The administration and Congressional Democrats are united in their support of the bill, saying that it would institute an incentive for companies to play it safe in the future. Read more

‘The Hills’ Recap: Brody And McKaela Are Over

Meanwhile, Audrina is back to flirting with Justin Bobby. By Amy Wilkinson McKaela tries to call Brody in “The Hills” episode “The Company You Keep” Photo: MTV Well, well, well. Kristin’s handwringing over Brody’s new lady friend was all for naught. McKaela’s unexpected friendship with one of Brody’s enemies continued to spell doom for their fledgling relationship during Tuesday’s episode of “The Hills.” It was Stephanie’s birthday, and the gang convened at Bar 210 to celebrate. Well, not everyone, since Audrina’s boyfriend, Ryan, was out on tour. “Now that he’s not here, I’ve been going out,” Audrina told Stephanie. “And I kind of miss that.” One unexpected reveler who did show up was McKaela, who had been invited last-minute by Lo. And McKaela didn’t come alone. She brought her friend Allie, whom several of the partygoers recognized immediately as the girl who allegedly broke into Brody’s pad in the middle of the night to retrieve a lost ring. As Kristin sat ever-so-close to Brody, chatting away, McKaela, who had been relegated to the opposite end of the coach with Allie, gave Kristin the evil eye. Brody ignored both McKaela and Allie to avoid any drama, but unsurprisingly, things got dramatic pretty quickly. “I don’t care if you want to be single,” McKaela declared, confronting Brody. “I just want respect.” Brody explained that he was peeved McKaela brought Allie, and seconds later he hustled out of the bar with Kristin by his side. The next morning while at work, McKaela asked Lo if she should call Brody. “Be careful,” Lo advised. McKaela dialed Brody’s number, only to have her call ignored by Brody who was still in bed, watching Kristin retrieve her belongings that were scattered across his room from the night before. Later in the day, Kristin met up with Audrina to discuss the events of the night. “You guys are like soul mates,” Audrina said of Brody and Kristin. Just then, Audrina’s phone went off — it was Justin Bobby sending her a text. When she met up with BF Ryan later in the day, she said nothing of the text, even hinting that maybe she and Ryan shouldn’t be together. “Maybe this is too much too soon,” she told him. But Ryan wouldn’t have any of it. “What we have is pretty rare and pretty special,” he assured her. As if asking for trouble, Audrina showed up at Justin Bobby’s garage to get her flirt on. “Did you tell Spikey you saw me the other night?” JB asked. Of course, Audrina hadn’t. “There’s certain people you see, and they’re just meant,” Justin Bobby said. “You can tell when two people are completely happy.” Hmm… who is he talking about? Meanwhile, Kristin finally agreed to meet with McKaela to hear her side of things. Kristin warned her that Allie was bad news and then asked how things were going between her and Brody. McKaela said they were pretty much over. And just to remind her how unwelcome Allie was, Kristin left McKaela with a few parting words: “People in L.A. take advantage of sweet girls like you.” What did you think of last night’s “Hills”? Rock The Bells Lineup Adds Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Premier

Lauryn Hill will perform her classic debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, on three tour stops. By Jayson Rodriguez Snoop Dogg Photo: Daniel Boczarski/ Redferns Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Premier have been added to the 2010 Rock the Bells bill , joining a lineup that already includes such legendary acts as the Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, KRS-One, and Slick Rick. As part of a novel concept this year, all of the participants will perform one seminal album from their catalog in its entirety, with the exception of Premier, who will instead lead a tribute to his late Gangstarr music partner, Guru . (The MC died in April of cancer-related causes.) Also joining the festivities is Lauryn Hill. The former Fugees frontwoman was announced as a “special guest” last month, but Hill’s involvement in the show was clarified on Tuesday (June 8). Hill is slated to perform her now-classic debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The singer will be featured on the Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. legs of the four-city trek. The Rock the Bells Tour spans four U.S. cities, kicking off on August 21 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California, then making stops at the Shoreline Amphitheater outside San Francisco on August 22, Governors Island in New York on August 28 and closing at Merriweather Post Pavilion, in the D.C. area, on August 29. Among the albums set to be performed from start to finish are Snoop’s Doggystyle, ATCQ’s Midnight Marauders, the Wu’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and KRS-One and Boogie Down Production’s Criminal Minded. Slick Rick’s The Great Adventures of Slick Rick and Eric B. and Rakim’s Paid in Full will also get a full performance. “That’s gonna be interesting to see these cats do some of the records that really bust hip-hop’s cherry open,” Raekwon told MTV News about the concept earlier this month. “I can’t wait to see this because I never seen it like that before. The concept is great. It gives fans the opportunity to go back and rewrite their history, go back and check it out, see what made dudes who they are. … This [tour] is gonna allow races to come together and have fun for one night. This is gonna be the event of events. This is gonna be the Royal Rumble of hip-hop. I’m sure that everybody is gonna come out and represent this. It’s gonna be right. I can’t wait.” Also filling out the bill are Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s side project with the Coup’s Boots Riley, Street Sweeper Social Club, as well as Murs & 9th Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, the Clipse, Immortal Technique, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks, Supernatural, DJ Muggs with Ill Bill, Big Sean, Yelawolf and DJ Rocky Rock. If you could choose any hip-hop act to perform their album in its entirety, who would you pick and which album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Snoop Dogg A Tribe Called Quest DJ Premier

Sculptor Louise Bourgeois Died at 98

Last Saturaday in New York, French-born American sculptor Louise Bourgeois died after heart attack, whose abstract explorations of themes such as birth, sexuality and death made her one of the world’s most influential contemporary artists. From media reports, based in New York since 1938, Bourgeois, 98, gained fame late in her long career and kept working to the end of her life. Louise Bourgeois had long been regarded by her contemporaries as one of the world’s most important artists, Bourgeois’ work was almost unknown to the wider art world until she was 70, when New York’s Museum of Modern Art presented a solo show of her career in 1982. Bourgeois work tackling themes on male and female bodies and emotions of anger, betrayal, even murder, reflected influences of surrealism, primitivism and the early modernist sculptors such as Alberto Giacometti and Constantin Brancusi. She received honors and one of those is a National Medal of Arts, awarded by President Clinton in 1997. In October, she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, N.Y.
