You can always trace a direct line through a few important projects to illustrate what led to a filmmaker’s current success. 9 Milestones in the Evolution of Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler has one of the most frustrating career arcs of any actor working today. Maybe it would have been better if Punch Drunk Love were never made. Then we wouldn’t know what Sandler is capable of and movies like this weekend’s Just Go With It wouldn’t be half as disappointing. On the other hand, audiences seem to just love it when he phones it in… so why even try? You can always trace a direct line through a handful of important roles (if not always the best roles) to illustrate what led to an actor’s current success — and/or give us a clue why something like Just Go With It exists, As such, let’s look at eight performances that trace the evolution of one Adam Richard Sandler.

Rihanna Reveals Title of New Album: Loud

Singer’s fifth disc, due out in November, will have a few ‘surprise’ collaborations. By Gil Kaufman Rihanna Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Rihanna already gave us her “Rockstar 101” best on last year’s Rated R , so this time she’s turning it up with a new CD whose title says it all. The singer revealed in a chat with fans over the weekend that her fifth studio effort will be called Loud . It’s due out on November 2 and is preceded by the single “Only Girl (In the World),” which premiered on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show early Tuesday (September 7). “I’m done recording the whole album,” Rihanna revealed during the chat, which took place on the official fansite Rihanna Daily . “I made sure not to let you down with my music! You guys are always defending me, so now you’ve got some great songs to justify it. I didn’t want to go backward and remake [2007’s] Good Girl Gone Bad . I wanted the next step in the evolution of Rihanna, and it’s perfect for us.” The singer said she’s never been this excited about any album she’s done, urging the members of her RihannaNavy to “get LOUD everybody, get crazy, get excited, cuz I’m pumped. I’m just gonna be ME, cuz that’s what u guys love the most, and that’s what makes me feel best. Just being normal, normal for me is LOUD! Sassy, fun, flirty, energetic.” While Rihanna said she’ll miss the Rated R era, she promised that one year after that dark, emotional effort, “nothing compares to the album I just made.” She also teased some “surprise” collaborations on the disc, though she didn’t reveal any names during the chat. “Girl” is produced by Stargate, who also collaborated with Rihanna on such early hits as “Don’t Stop the Music,” “Hate That I Love You” and the R banger “Rude Boy.” Related Artists Rihanna

Stick to the pipe, medical marijuana users: that’s the message from Canadian researchers who found that smoking even relatively low doses of cannabis can help reduce chronic pain, ease sleep and reduce anxiety. Tobacco Plants Chemically Summon Insects to Defend Themselves Against Caterpillar Attack

photo: minnemom via flickr I admit there’s no direct connection between this next one and sustainability, but from a science perspective it’s just too interesting to pass by: New research shows that tobacco plants have evolved a “chemical SOS” signal that attracts insect predators when caterpillars are eating their leaves. Like TreeHugger said back in 2007, Plants, they’re smarter than you think …… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Seth Godin Says Goodbye To The Office

ah, the traditional mad men style office. Sex . Smokes. Whiskey. Seth Godin, who is not in the picture above, questions why we have offices at all any more. He lists seven excuses often used to explain why we go to offices, including “3. The boss needs to keep tabs on my productivity” and “7. I need someplace to go.” He then demolishes these arguments with seven answers, including “3. The boss can easily keep tabs on productivity digitally” (mine does) and “7. So go someplace. But it doesn’t have to be to your office.” He concludes “What’s missing i… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Splice-not your average sci fi horror movie

I saw Splice today and was surprised that it is not your average B horror sci-fi blood and gore movie. Two young biotech scientists /lovers named Elsa and Clive are successful in splicing animal DNA to create hybrids. So successful that they think the pharmaceutical company they work for will support their splicing of human DNA with animal DNA, but are surprised when turned down and shut down. They then go out on their own (morseo Elsa than Clive, who questions the morality of it) against all legal and moral boundaries in successfully splicing their DNA with animal DNA and creating what they at first believe (Elsa much more than Clive who in the beginning wants to kill it) will be the key to all they have dreamed of. Then the dream turns into a nightmare and the evolution of “Dren” turns violent and bloody once leashed on the outside world, taking a turn that shows what happens when you cross the line with no regard for the consequences. And apart from this, the interplay with the characters and the relationship with their creation as well as how it evolves upon learning and growing ( and not for the better) is also worth noting in this movie as a question about the influence of not only DNA but environment. It gives you something to think about, especially regarding where science is today and the moral implications of where it is going. As someone who reads about this, is concerned about it, and reports on it regarding GMOS, this movie did not lose credibility because the science in it is actually reality. They have already created “synthetic” life in a test tube, cloned, and have been serving up genetically engineered seeds that have proven that once unleashed their effects cannot be called back. The warning here is clear; Carelessly playing god with nature will always come back to bite you on the a88. I give it seven out of ten stars and recommend it if you are into sci-fi, and won't be too freaked out by the unorthodox sex scenes ( will not give that away.) Splice is not your average horror blood and gore movie and the acting in it is bellievable. It will not only quench your thirst for sci-fi it will have you questioning the limitations of science on the natural world and the implications of crossing the line. added by: JanforGore

Porn Is 3D TV’s Best Hope

Years ago, the prevalence of porn on VHS tapes helped secure that format's victory over betamax. Now adult content again may play a decisive role in the evolution of video entertainment, as the promise of immersive sexual entertainment lures new customers to 3D television sets. With porn representing 30% of the overall video market in Japan, a 3D title featuring prominent porn stars—like the one becoming available next week—could be the push for many consumers to get the new sets, Bloomberg reports. “I want to try it out,” said one Japanese adult-cable subscriber. “I need something dramatic to justify replacing my TV. This could be the motivation.” Analysts agree: “It’s lack of content that’s hindering expansion,” of 3D TV, says a Barclay's economist. http://www.newser.com/story/91061/porn-is-3-d-tvs-best-hope.html added by: unimatrix0
