Nick Jonas Previews His ‘Mr. Sunshine’ Cameo

‘It was really fun to stretch my personality a bit,’ Jonas Brother tells MTV News of playing a jerk on Wednesday’s episode. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News Nick Jonas is probably one of the nicest guys in the music industry, but for his appearance on ABC’s ” Mr. Sunshine ” on Wednesday night (February 16), the pop star had to get his jerk on, playing the ultra-demanding rock star Eli, who gives Matthew Perry’s character a run for his money on the new sitcom. “It was really fun to stretch my personality a bit while doing the ‘Mr. Sunshine’ cameo. I was playing a jerk named Eli, and he’s kind of like a rock-star guy who pushes out a jerk attitude to compensate the fact that he’s really insecure about a lot of things — really similar to me, ” he joked to MTV News about the cameo. “And Matthew Perry’s obviously a legend. It was so cool to work with him and soak up as much as I could.” Jonas said he got the call from the TV star himself asking if he wanted to make a cameo on the show. Jonas said he is a big fan of the former “Friends” star. “I always watched it growing up when it was on, and I’ve got a lot of friends who are die-hard ‘Friends’ fans, but I did watch the show, and I’d have to say he was my favorite character on the show.” When asked what “Friends” character he always felt he related to most, the 18-year-old said he is the Chandler Bing of his circle of friends. “I would definitely be like him,” he said, before explaining that he hopes he’s a bit like Perry as well. “He’s the man. I would hope that I was like him. I mean, he’s very talented in real life and has so much to give.” Are you excited for Nick’s “Mr. Sunshine” cameo? Let us know in the comments! Justin Bieber Vintage Video: Talking Ludacris, Drake On ‘Baby’ Set

Last year, Bieber denied any aspirations for a rap career. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the set of his video for “Baby” Photo: MTV News A year ago, almost to the day, MTV News ran an interview with Justin Bieber in which the teen star said he had no plans to do any rapping. Cut to a year later, and Bieber has really stepped up his rap game, between his verse on Sean Kingston’s “Won’t Stop” and his Shawty Mane MC alter ego . When we caught up with the star on the bowling-alley video set for “Baby” last year, Bieber still seemed kind of green to the whole process but remained completely poised throughout the shoot. He opened up about his MC pals, sharing how he got Ludacris to join him on the song, which turned out to be his breakout hit. “Well, [Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta,” Bieber said. “I met him a year prior to this, and we figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, so we invited him out to do it.” When asked if Luda offered him any advice, Bieber said, “No. I mean, he’s a rapper; he doesn’t sing.” And he seemed adamantly opposed when we asked if he had any rapping plans: “No. Not at all. Nope.” These days, Bieber’s MC rolodex has expanded even more, but back then, he was still flexing his swagga muscle by getting fellow Canadian Drake onboard to make a cameo in the video. “He’s just one of my good buddies. He’s here to hang out,” Bieber said, noting that he couldn’t confirm who else might appear on his not-yet-released My World 2.0. “You’ll have to see when it comes out in March.” On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music. Justin Bieber Vintage Video: ‘I Love Twitter’

‘My fans have made me a trending topic every day,’ Bieber marvels to MTV News in April 2010. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber in 2009 Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images In April 2010, Justin Bieber sat down with MTV News to dish about his devoted fanbase. His Beliebers, at the time, were keeping him at the top of the Twitter trends daily. Those fans were the ones who believed in him before he became the megastar he is today. When he sat down with us all those months ago, Bieber seemed grateful for their love and support. “They make me a trending topic on Twitter every day,” Bieber marveled. “It’s pretty incredible. My fans have made me a trending topic every day. I don’t think there’s been a day in the past month that I haven’t. So it’s pretty incredible.” The singer — who is still one of the most devout celeb users of the social-networking site — said he loved using the site to stay connected to his fans. “I love Twitter,” Bieber said. “I use it for being able to interact with my fans as well as promote stuff.” To this day, Bieber frequently tweets and retweets messages for his fans, noting that there’s no science as to who he picks. “It just depends. It’s kind of, like, it’s random,” he said. “It’s not really anyone specifically. It’s just kind of a random thing. “They’re like, ‘I never thought you were gonna respond!’ ” he added. “And I say, ‘You thought wrong.’ ” On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. Cudder tweets about a slew of upcoming projects, including ‘Maniac’ movie with Shia LaBeouf and Cage. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kid Cudi Photo: Getty Images Kid Cudi returned to Twitter just a day ago, but he wasted no time updating his followers about a slew of projects he’s cooking up for 2011. The Cleveland MC tweeted his first missives around 3 p.m. Wednesday, explaining , “I really only got back on twitter becuz i heard will smith tweeted about a fresh prince reunion and i wanted to post my response to that …” However, tweets he typed out hours later reveal Cudder has more than just possible Will Smith collabos on his mind. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Star Mackenzie Foy Gets Props From Onscreen Grandmother

‘This is far too quick!’ Elizabeth Reaser says of having a ‘granddaughter.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elizabeth Reaser Photo: Ray Tamarra/ FilmMagic PARK CITY, Utah — Of the onslaught of new castmembers that have come onboard for the two parts of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” the young actress who everyone seems to be most interested in is newcomer Mackenzie Foy . The 10-year-old actress might not be old enough to truly grasp the OME-level of excitement that playing Renesmee, the onscreen daughter of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, should generate, but she certainly has made quite an impact on her co-stars. Elizabeth Reaser, who plays matriarch Esme Cullen, was at the Sundance Film Festival when MTV News caught up with her and asked her about working with Foy. Reaser had nothing but wonderful things to say about her newest family member. “She’s wonderful, and she lives across the hall from me in Baton Rouge, and she’s a wonderful, great actress,” Reaser said. “She never complains about anything. She’s so professional about everything. She’s such a sweetheart.” Obviously, Foy was cast not only for her acting ability but also for her resemblance to the movie’s stars. “I think it was really well cast between Rob and Kristen. She could be their kid, you know? She looks like that,” Reaser said, laughing about the fact that Foy, who is 25 years younger than her, is playing her grandchild. “This is far too quick!” In October, Stewart said she hadn’t had a chance to meet Foy yet, though that has obviously changed by now. She said that she didn’t know anything about Foy until “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon called her up. “[He] was like, ‘Wait until you see this kid. If you and Rob had a kid, this would be it,’ ” she told MTV News. “I was like, ‘That’s so weird.’ She just looks like — she sort of looks like Bella. Which is absolutely right. Although the funny thing is she has green eyes, and we both have to wear brown contacts together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Jennifer Lopez Calls ‘American Idol’ A ‘Natural, Fun Experience’

‘We’re not just phoning it in,’ J.Lo tells MTV News of her and fellow rookie judge Steven Tyler. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News It’s week two of the “American Idol” season 10, and new judge Jennifer Lopez is feeling good about her decision to join the show. When MTV News caught up with the pop star on the set of her “On the Floor” music video , she said her “Idol” plan is to stay relaxed and be herself. “I’m so happy that everybody’s loving the show,” she said. “I feel very grateful about that, but I really just wanted to be myself, and I think Steven [Tyler] the same thing. We sat down there and it wasn’t like, ‘What are we going to do?’ It was like, ‘You be you.’ I think that’s why they chose us.” Lopez has some theories about why she and the Aerosmith frontman make good “Idol” judges. “They knew that he was a good person [and] I was a good person. He was an interesting person. I had my things about me that they felt were interesting. They knew what they were doing,” she said. “That’s why they came to us.” So is she having fun? “It’s just been a very natural, fun experience for us, and I think that’s what’s coming across. But we’re also very serious about what we’re doing, and I think people get that too. Like, we’re not just phoning it in. We actually care about this, we care about the process, we care about music, we care about artists, and you’re getting all that,” she said. “And that’s pretty much how we handle it every day. I’m having a good time.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Jennifer Lopez Feels ‘Emotionally Connected’ To ‘On The Floor’

‘One of the biggest joys that I’ve had in my life is dancing,’ singer tells MTV News about her club jam. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News Jennifer Lopez is back and she’s getting some assistance from Lady Gaga producer RedOne. Lopez says she knew they had something magical when the dance-music impresario played “On the Floor,” her new single. “The minute RedOne played it for me, I made him play it 20 times in a row, and I just sat there at the board and I kept listening to it and listening to it,” Lopez told MTV News when we visited the set of her upcoming video. “Because I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it, but also because of how much I love to dance and how much that’s always been such a big part of who I am since I started. Since I was a little girl, I just totally connected with the idea of getting out there.” The song, which also features Miami MC Pitbull, conjures up nostalgic feelings for the singer. “That was one of the biggest joys that I’ve had in my life, is dancing,” she told us. “And so, I just had him play it over and over and over and I just knew it was something for me.” Lopez first rose to fame as a dancer , appearing on “In Living Color” as a “fly girl.” And from her early days on the pop scene, she showed off her ability to shake that famous rear end, and this track harks back to those days. “At the end of the day, when you’re choosing your material for stuff that you’re going to do, you know they can play you so many songs or you can write so many songs, but it always has to mean something,” she explained. “It always has to have something there, and I love the fact that it had also a little bit of kind of that street vibe, but also the very melodic, sensual, vulnerable side as well. I felt like [RedOne] captured both sides of me with this record. I got to be wild and crazy and, at the same time, I got to be sexy and sweet too.” What do you think of J.Lo’s new single, “On the Floor”? Tell us in the comments! David Guetta Dishes On U2 Collaboration

‘We met with Bono and I was really excited, really honored,’ dance superstar tells MTV News of working with pop-rock legends. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Akshay Bhansali David Guetta Photo: MTV News David Guetta can check Akon, Rihanna and Flo Rida off his list of superstar collabos, but the next possible high-wattage team-up in the works for the producer/DJ may be much more than the clubs can handle. The French behind-the-boards whiz recently told MTV News that he’s been speaking with pop-rock icon Bono about putting his hit-friendly touch on the next U2 project. “We met with Bono, and I was really excited, really honored because he proposed me to maybe produce some tracks for the next U2 album,” Guetta said. The architect of smashes like the Akon-assisted speaker-crusher “Sexy Chick” and the ubiquitous Black Eyed Peas anthem “I Gotta Feeling,” Guetta added that he’s more than ready to broaden his professional horizons beyond the main-room bangers and R&B-tinged tracks that have netted him tons of fan acclaim and status as a dance-music demigod. “I’ve been more and more open to different styles of music, and obviously electronic music is still my main thing, but I just love music. If it’s good, it doesn’t matter what style,” he said. “After those collaborations with all these urban artists, I thought it would be a real challenge for me to try to go in that direction.” But what would a Guetta-helmed U2 jam sound like? The quartet has spent decades blowing minds with their epic yet intimate pop-rock cuts, but how does one marry the fist-pumping, booty-rattling throb of Guetta’s body of work with the Dubliners’ sensibilities? The DJ told us that’s he’s already trying to figure that out. “That’s done already,” Guetta smiled, admitting that he started tinkering with some sounds in the studio. “I started a few ideas already, yes.” Bono said late last year that U2 are actively exploring a dancefloor-friendly sound in some of their new music, and have also enlisted Broken Bells producer Danger Mouse, Lady Gaga soundsmith RedOne and the Peas’ will.i.am to craft some tracks. “U2’s remixes in the 1990s were a real treasure,” Bono explained to Australian newspaper The Age in October. “So we wanted to make a club-sounding record. We have a pile of songs.” What do you think a David Guetta/ U2 collabo would sound like? Sound off in the comments! Avril Lavigne Rocks Out In 3-D For ‘What The Hell’

‘It felt like you were live in a crowd,’ she tells MTV News of video’s special effects. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Avril Lavigne Photo: MTV News Avril Lavigne is back , and she’s asking “What the Hell” on the lead single off her March 8 release, Goodbye Lullaby. In the video , which premiered on Sunday, she’s pursued around town by a guy whose affections she doesn’t seem to value quite as much as her own freedom to do what she pleases. The clip also has another dimension to it: It was shot in 3-D. When MTV News caught up with Lavigne to talk about the song, she was excited about the high-tech project. “The music video’s in 3-D, and my favorite part of the video is the rock-out scene at the end where I jump onstage and I’m with my band,” she said. “When we shot it and I got to watch it back in 3-D with the glasses and actually you can see the crowd’s hands, and it felt like you were live in a crowd, so it was kind of cool.” The song and the album are Lavigne’s return to the music spotlight. In the years since she released The Best Damn Thing in 2007, the 26-year-old had a high-profile divorce from Sum-41’s Deryck Whibley, battled her record label and found love again with former “Hills” star Brody Jenner. The album, she explains, reflects all that growing up. “[It’s] about saying goodbye to something sweet and familiar and taking a step forward and opening a new chapter in your life,” she explained. “This album overall is kind of bittersweet. It’s full of sad and happy emotions. The message overall is about moving forward and coming out of that and finding inner strength. The record’s a little more raw. It’s a more emotional record, and you can really feel that. I went for those raw, vulnerable moments, but having ‘What the Hell’ be the first single is more like my older stuff. It’s a good way to bridge it.” What do you think of the “What the Hell” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Avril Lavigne Related Artists Avril Lavigne

‘Alien’ Prequel Turns Into Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

‘While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology,’ director tells Deadline. By Kara Warner Ridley Scott Photo: 20th Century Fox Ever since news broke that Ridley Scott would be revisiting his famous “Alien” franchise in the form of a prequel, the Internets have been a buzzing with rumors, analysis, etc. There have been a slew of actors and writers rumored to be attached to the film , including Keanu Reeves and Natalie Portman, writer John Spaihts and a rewrite from “Lost” genius Damon Lindelof. What we know so far is that the film will be set 30 years prior to the original “Alien,” and on Friday (January 14) came word that it isn’t so much a prequel as something “more original,” according to a Deadline report. The film has an official title, “Prometheus,” and release date, March 9, 2012. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (“Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) has signed on to star as Elizabeth Shaw, one of two female leads. The rest of the cast is said to be filled out “soon,” with Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron both said to be interested in jumping on Scott’s expectedly epic return to sci-fi filmmaking. Scott once told MTV News that he “avoided sequels, unless [he] felt there was something fresh,” and judging from what he’s doing with “Prometheus,” the new film will be just that. “While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” he said. “The keen fan will recognize strands of ‘Alien’ ‘s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.” Lindelof said what lured him in was Scott’s original vision for the film: “It’s daring, visceral and, hopefully, the last thing anyone expects,” he said, adding that working with the Oscar winner is a dream come true. “When I sat in a movie theater as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
