Joe Jonas Wants Fans To Dance To His Solo Album

‘They’ve been wanting this for me for a long time,’ he tells MTV News of support from Jonas Brothers Nick and Kevin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News The Jonas Brothers always seem to stand by one another, even if that means stepping away from the trio to try out new projects. Last year, Joe and Kevin gave Nick their blessing when he released a solo LP. And now that Joe is working on new music , his brothers are showing him the same support. “I think there’s a lot of emotions that I feel about doing my solo project. I think I was nervous in the beginning,” Joe told MTV News when we visited him and producer Danja at the studio. “I wanted to have my brothers’ support, and the fact they’re both so excited for me and they’ve been wanting this for me for a long time [is great].” As part of Nick Jonas and the Administration, Nick released the bluesy, pop rock album Who I Am in 2010, but Joe’s project will likely have a different sound. “To be able to go on a musical journey for a while and finally, with finding Danja and working with him, we’ve been able to collaborate on something that really works for me,” Joe explained. “And [to] find me and not try to mold it into something it’s not, to try and be myself and my music and kind of tell stories and be honest and just have something … [that] when people hear it, hopefully they’ll be able to dance to it and have a good time.” While their solo musical directions may differ, Joe said he learned some things from Nick. “I think the biggest thing that I saw from [Nick], he just had a good time,” he said. “He made a record that was for him and this one is for me and my fans. To be able to get in here everyday and just vibe out, we’re all just having a great time in here. The biggest piece is that I’m on the journey. … It’s just gonna be a fun vibe to everything.” Are you looking forward to hearing Joe’s solo material? Tell us in the comments! Rihanna Makes U.K. Chart History

Pop star is first female solo artist to score five #1 singles in consecutive years in the U.K. By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: Evan Agostini/AP Photo That Rihanna reign just won’t let up as the redheaded pop darling has set a new chart record in the United Kingdom. With her Drake-assisted “What’s My Name?” rising to the top spot, the singer, who recently filmed a video for her Nicki Minaj collabo “Fly,” has become the first female solo artist in U.K. chart history to score five #1 singles in consecutive years. According to the Official Charts Company , the pop star’s “What’s My Name?” nabbed the honorary position on the Official Singles Chart after its runner-up spot last week. Elvis Presley was the last solo act to achieve this record with #1 hits spanning from 1957 to 1963. And it doesn’t stop there as Rihanna is garnering some serious British sales for her latest album. Loud also holds on to the #1 spot on the Official Albums Chart this week, giving the pop princess the second U.K. chart double of her career. Back in 2007, Good Girl Gone Bad and her smash single “Umbrella” topped the chart simultaneously. Since its November release, Loud has sold nearly 900,000 copies in the U.K. RiRi took to Twitter to thank her legion of overseas fans. “Another week! LOUD and What’s my Name are the #1 ALBUM and SINGLE respectively!!! UK you are on FYAH!!! Rah Rah! THANK U! Where my #UKNavy,” she tweeted. In addition to the chart’s top honors, the Barbadian beauty has two other songs in the top 10, including her dance number “Only Girl (In the World)” and David Guetta collaboration “Who’s That Chick?” Music isn’t her only forte: The singer is expanding her empire with the launch of her first signature fragrance, called Reb’l Fleur , and her feature film debut in “Battleship,” hitting theaters in 2012. Snooki Says Her New Boyfriend Isn’t A ‘Jersey Shore’ ‘Fame Whore’

As she filmed new season, ‘he didn’t like the cameras,’ star admits. By Kara Warner Snooki Photo: MTV News Anyone who tuned into Thursday night’s (January 6) action- and f-bomb-packed premiere of the new season of “Jersey Shore” could see that those crazy kids will be providing their fans with plenty of outrageous moments equal to — and perhaps exceeding — the limits set in the first two seasons. When MTV News caught up with the one and only Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi recently, she assured us that major drama will go down. But on a lighter, warm and fuzzy note, Polizzi also revealed that during the cast’s crazy antics in Seaside Heights, the pint-sized dynamo met her new boyfriend. “I did meet by boyfriend right now on the new season. I met him in Jersey a couple times at the club,” she explained. “He didn’t really like the cameras, so I thought he was a weirdo: He just wouldn’t talk to me; he would just stare at me, so I was like, ‘What’s wrong with this kid?’ ” She added that his reluctance to appear on the show made her like him even more. “I found out after we were filming he didn’t like the cameras, he wasn’t comfortable, so I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a good thing. He’s not a fame whore, and I don’t want to date any of those guys,’ ” she said. “So I started hanging out with him, and we had a good time together, so we just started dating.” Speaking of fame whores — individuals who attempt to befriend celebs or reality TV stars to appear on-camera themselves — Snooki said now that the cast has become very recognizable, they have to be careful about who they meet. “We actually had a lot of people trying to get into our house, hang out with us,” Polizzi said. “I was like, ‘I know why you’re trying to hang out with us, so don’t even try.” She also revealed that newcomer Deena had a harder time sussing out the disingenuous types, which viewers will see later in the season. Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: ‘Jersey Shore’

Snooki Says ‘Jersey Shore’ Could Go On ‘Our Whole Lives’

The new season premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. By James Montgomery “Jersey Shore” star Snooki Photo: MTV News As if you couldn’t tell from the chaotic, darn-near-catastrophic trailer , the new season of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” — which kicks off Thursday (January 6) night at 10 p.m. ET on MTV — is going to be one for the ages. But according to one “Shore” star — the fantastic Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi — we haven’t seen anything yet. “Well, I think the whole season overall is just insane,” she told MTV News. “There’s a lot of drama between the roommates, like, more than ever. A lot of drama with Jenni and her now ex-boyfriend, that was a lot to handle, especially when she’s my best friend. We had to go to her house and get her dogs; it was really crazy. So Jenni pretty much had a hard time in Seaside [Heights], just with her relationships.” But the drama wasn’t just limited to JWoww. It seems the rest of the cast raised the bar on the new season, the Snookster included. Because, this time around, she was on a mission. “Me, I just kind of went balls-to-the-wall, because I hated the male race, and I just wanted to go out and just, like, destroy every guy that I found, so I pretty much just did that,” she continued. “And in that process I found [current boyfriend] Jionni [LaVale]. And Sammi and Ronnie, I never saw them fight like that before, so you’re going to see a whole new level of Sam and Ron fighting.” And with so much Seaside madness, fans have got to be wondering: Just how long can the “Jersey Shore” cast keep it up? Rest assured, Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the crew have no intention of slowing down any time soon. “I think everybody can do, like, at least another 20 series or something like that, because we can do this our whole lives,” she said. “This is what we do, and even if we weren’t getting paid, we’d still be going back to the shore and doing the same thing. So why not have cameras following us?” The new season of “Jersey Shore” premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Justin Bieber’s 2011 Wish List Includes Grammy Win, Haircut

‘If I win a Grammy that would be awesome,’ the teen pop sensation tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images Justin Bieber had a huge 2010, and the well-coifed teen star seems poised to have an even bigger 2011. Along with his “Never Say Never” movie set for a February release, an album in the works , more touring and perhaps more canoodling with Selena Gomez , Bieber has a big goal on his docket: to take home one of the biggest prizes in the music industry — a Grammy . “This year, I mean, I hope that I win a Grammy, ’cause I’m up for two,” he told MTV News. “So if I win a Grammy that would be awesome.” Of course, Bieber isn’t expecting anything at the big awards show this February. Like most nominees, he says he’s just honored to have been recognized for his work. “Even if I didn’t win anything, I would still be happy because I was nominated, and that’s pretty big in itself,” he explained. “It’s gonna be big. The Grammys are definitely something I’ve looked forward to, so this year’s going to be definitely really big.” So, what other big plans does Bieber have in store for the recently launched New Year? Brace yourselves, Beliebers. It has something to do with his hair. “I think after my movie I might cut my hair a little shorter,” he admitted. Justin Bieber Tweets About His ‘Fun’ 2010, Prepares For 2011

‘Chillin and happy. Its been a fun year with a lot of blessings,’ Bieber writes on Twitter. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty Images It’s been quite a year for Justin Bieber . Everywhere he went, madness ensued and he managed to go from pop newbie to legitimate superstar over the course of the past 12 months. So, when Bieber hit Twitter this week to share some reflections about his jet-setting new life, he was quick to point out that right now he just needed some time to chill out and decompress. “Another solid day hanging with the family and friends. love the #holidays,” he wrote. “New years is coming….what is gonna be your new years resolution?” He then tweeted a link to the music video for “Pray,” followed by a brief message that said, “Need the rest. #grateful” Bieber certainly deserves some rest. He’s been non-stop all year: touring, releasing not one but two albums , filming his 3-D movie “Never Say Never,” working with everyone from his mentor Usher to Kanye West and Raekwon , and even introducing the world to his rapping alter ego, Shawty Mane . “Chillin and happy. Its been a fun year with a lot of blessings,” Bieber wrote later on Twitter. “Some crazy rumors but so much love and memories. We r just gettin started!! So enjoy the holidays. Get crazy and have some laughs. Life is too short. At least that is what they tell me. #newyearsIsComin” Bieber wasn’t lying when he said that he was just getting started. 2011 is looking to be another crazy year for the singer. His first feature film, “Never Say Never,” is set to premiere in February; he’ll be back on the road with Willow Smith in the spring; and he’s working on new music — including collaborations with Diddy and Rascal Flatts — that likely will be released sometime in the new year. Justin Timberlake Wants To Be An ‘Actor,’ Not A ‘Movie Star’

Fans ‘look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film,’ JT says. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Timberlake Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Justin Timberlake keeps finding box-office success with roles in animated flicks like “Yogi Bear” . And with so much buzz around his film “The Social Network,” in which he plays Napster founder Sean Parker, you might think that Timberlake has left the world of music behind for Hollywood. But JT knows that you want him to put out more music. “They’re looking at me like, ‘Why aren’t you staying with one path?’ ” he told the Los Angeles Times, referring to his fans’ response to his shift in careers. “They look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film.” Timberlake explains that he always wanted to act, even before selling millions and millions of albums with ‘NSYNC, and he admits that when he left ‘NSYNC fans were just as riled up when he embarked on his hugely successful and now revered solo career. “I faced the same feelings when I went solo,” he explained. “I had the same obstacles in music. I still do. But I feel like I should pose the question to everyone else: If you had this opportunity, what would you do with it? Entertaining is in my blood. I make no bones about the fact that I have always wanted to work in the forum of film. I take this seriously. I’ll be 30 in January, and I’m saying to myself, ‘If I’m going to do this, I need to do it now.’ ” What it boils down to for Timberlake is that he doesn’t just want to be famous at whatever he does — he wants to do it and see what happens regardless of the fan response. “I don’t know what a pop ‘career’ is. I just wanted to be in music,” Timberlake said. “I don’t necessarily crave to be a movie star. I just want to be an actor. I don’t look at it as a career — I just feel lucky. That’s not to say I’m going to take every opportunity that comes up. But now I have more chance to plot out a path.” Timberlake says that when the time is right and he can make it work for him again, he’ll go back to recording music. “I want to conceptualize something a little bit more,” he said. “And it’s probably because of the experience I’m having working with directors and screenwriters and getting to play cool characters. If that means I come up with, like, my version of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ so be it. Who knows? What I’ve learned from acting in movies, I want to apply to music and see what happens.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Timberlake MTV Rough Cut: ‘The Social Network’ Related Photos Acting, Log-Rolling, Quilting: Justin Timberlake Can Do It All Related Artists Justin Timberlake

Kanye West Bests Nicki Minaj In Billboard Battle

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sold nearly half a million in first week. By Gil Kaufman Kanye West Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images In the end, the chart battle between Kanye West and Nicki Minaj wasn’t much of a contest. In the biggest album release week of the year, Yeezy easily bested the Young Money honey. Preliminary figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan peg his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy debuting with more than 495,000 copies sold compared to 375,000 for Minaj’s long-awaited major-label debut, Pink Friday. Though some questioned Kanye’s decision to leak a song a week in the months leading up to the release of Fantasy, including nearly all of the album’s major tracks, in the end, fans still appear to have come out for the rapper’s fifth studio album. Fantasy matched the #1 debut of Kanye’s previous effort, 2008’s vocal-heavy 808s & Heartbreak, which moved 450,000 copies in its first week. Neither, however, come close to reaching the MC’s chart peak, which he achieved in 2007 with Graduation , which also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart after selling a whopping 957,000 copies in its first week in the midst of a much-hyped chart battle with 50 Cent’s album Curtis . After more than two years of headline-grabbing guest spots on tracks by everyone from Gucci Mane to Mariah Carey, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, Mya, Robin Thicke, Ludacris and, of course, Kanye, anticipation was high for Minaj’s Friday . In the end, Minaj just narrowly missed the record for the best debut album sales by a female rapper, falling a bit short of the mark set by former Fugees member Lauryn Hill in 1998 with her smash hit The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which moved 423,000 copies in its chart bow. Rihanna And Kanye West Talk Children, Fashion, Music In Interview

‘I have a lot of other stuff to accomplish before I get to kids,’ RiRi admits to West in the magazine. By Kyle Anderson Rihanna on the cover of the December/January issue of Interview Photo: Interview It is difficult enough getting superstars like Kanye West and Rihanna to sit still long enough individually for a conversation, but Interview magazine has managed to get them both together at the same time (though not on the same continent). The periodical — which pairs up famous names for chats about their work — has devoted the cover of its December/January issue to Rihanna, and features an interview with the singer conducted by West. A number of topics are explored in the lengthy, revealing conversation, which was conducted over the phone a few weeks ago while West was in a London studio working on his forthcoming album Watch the Throne — a full-length collaboration with fellow superstar Jay-Z — and Rihanna was between rehearsals for her appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” They chat about fashion (Rihanna is “over the whole structured clothing, overly shoulder-padded sh–“), sexuality (“How does it feel to know that you can turn straight women gay?” West asks) and lyrics (“I think a lot of people have a misperception of me,” Rihanna says. “They only see the tough, defensive, aggressive side. But every woman is vulnerable.”). They also discuss Rihanna’s work on the upcoming film “Battleship” (she drank a lot of Red Bull because the schedule was so grueling) and the possibility of whether or not she would ever step away from music to focus on film full time the way Justin Timberlake has. “I didn’t know if I was going to like [making movies] or hate it or love it,” she admits. “But I actually enjoy it and it’s something that I’m looking forward to in the future. But I’ll never shut off from music and just do film. I love music too much.” In addition to talking about work, West also dives into some personal issues. Rihanna admits that she is torn about having children. “That depends on a lot of other s—,” she says. “I have a lot of other stuff to accomplish before I get to kids. It could be a year from now. It could be 10 years from now.” Of course, it wouldn’t be a conversation with West if there wasn’t a little bit of self-promotion. At the top of the interview, he tells Rihanna that Watch the Throne is “going to be very dark and sexy — like very couture hip-hop. Because since me and Jay have already had big records and over-the-top joints, we’re just going to make some real dirty, f—ed-up, hardcore stuff. But it’s also luxe and definitely high-class.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Rihanna MTV News Extended Play: Kanye West Related Artists Rihanna Kanye West
