Drake Reveals Next Album To Be Called Take Care

GQ Man of the Year tells the mag follow-up to Thank Me Later will be ‘catchier.’ By Gil Kaufman Drake on the December 2010 cover of GQ , “Man of the Year” edition Photo: Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin/ Conde Nast It’s a long way from mixtape infamy to the cover of GQ magazine . But Drake has successfully made that transition, and in the 2010 “Men of the Year” issue of the venerable men’s mag, Drizzy models some high-end Burberry and Billy Reid duds while dropping a bit of news about his next move. Among the biggest revelations is that he’s decided to call his next album Take Care. Due next spring, Drake promised his second effort will be packed with more inescapable hits like “Best I Ever Had.” “Don’t think for a second I can’t do better,” he told the magazine. “For Take Care, I’m trying to find a way to make my raps shorter but catchier. I’m trying to condense my thoughts down to 16 bars. And it’s coming out more potent.” He also explained that after the mega-hype created by his smash 2009 mixtape So Far Gone, he decided to call his major label debut Thank Me Later as a way to preemptively deflate the anticipatory hype he knew he couldn’t live up to. Among the other revelations the 23-year old Canadian MC coughs up is the story of how way back in May 2009, when he “wasn’t even really Drake yet,” he was robbed at double gunpoint while on a date with a girl in his hometown of Toronto. Just back from a tour, Drake said, “I knew it was a setup, because I had on a sweater and a jacket … but when they banged on the car window with a gun and opened the door, the first thing he said was, ‘Yo, run that chain.’ They didn’t rob her, and her purse was sitting right there. So I was like, ‘OK, yup — you set the whole thing up.” After being relieved of $4,000 in U.S. currency and a chain that new mentor Lil Wayne had just given him, Drake said he learned a valuable lesson. From then on, he vowed to steer clear of the negative energy that can sometimes surround the rap world. Once his career began to take off a month later, he was prepared to handle it. And while fans will have to wait a while to hear those smart-bomb tracks from Take Care, they can slake their thirst with new Drizzy courtesy of Young Money cohort Nicki Minaj, whose debut, Pink Friday, leaked online on Wednesday (November). The pair team up for the tune “Moment 4 Life,” in which Drake teases the couple’s fake Twitter marriage , rapping, “F— it, me and Nicki getting married today/ And all you bitches hating can catch the bouquet.” What do you think of Drake’s proposed next album title? The Situation’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Skills: Ronnie Weighs In

‘Mike has legs, so does a chair — it doesn’t mean the chair can dance, right?’ ‘Jersey Shore’ castmate quips. By Eric Ditzian Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and his partner Karina Smirnoff on “Dancing With The Stars” Photo: ABC Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino barely escaped with his reality-show life Tuesday evening on “Dancing With the Stars.” Only Michael Bolton and his gangly jive saved Sitch’s hide from elimination, as the “Jersey Shore” star will live to toe-tap another week. Perhaps the Situation has one of his castmates to thank, because Ronnie has vowed to vote for his roommate — regardless of his actual dancing talents. “I’m going to support him in every way,” Ronnie told MTV News. “I’m going to send him a text, the vote text. I’ll vote for Mike. “I’ll send, like, three texts — it’s like $1.50,” he added with a sly smile. “How much you really want me to spend on you, Mike?” On second thought, the Situation might want to hold off on a thank-you and tell Ronnie to start texting votes with the same enthusiasm he reserved for flirting with Jell-O-shot-serving waitresses early this season on “Shore.” But Ronnie might not be so convinced Mike has what it takes to win “DWTS.” “Mike has legs, so does a chair — it doesn’t mean the chair can dance, right?” Ronnie reasoned. Ouch. Ronnie’s off-and-on gal pal Sammi was considerably more kind when we asked her about the Situation’s skills. “He can’t really dance, but I know he can fist-pump,” she said during an earlier interview. “We’ll support him,” Vinny told us. And that’s exactly what Ronnie made clear to us too. After all the good-natured razzing he threw the Situation’s way, he told us he’ll be pulling for his roomie to win. “I know he’s going to try his best and do the best of his ability, and he’s going to represent the ‘Jersey Shore’ family,” he said. Are you rooting for the Situation on “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Drake Says He’s Debating ‘Fancy’ Video Re-shoot

Drizzy tells MTV News he has a ‘way better idea’ for the clip, but may start fresh with ‘Show Me a Good Time.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: MTV News The last time Drake changed his mind about a music video at the last minute, his original idea for a sensitive clip for the ladies turned into the over-the-top “Best I Ever Had” visual directed by Kanye West . This time, however, the Toronto lyricist insists his next video will be great, regardless of his temporary indecisiveness. He’s debating whether to reshoot “Fancy” or commission a clip for his next single, “Show Me a Good Time.” “We shot ‘Fancy,’ and to be honest with you, it was done and I watched it and I just had a way better idea,” Drake told MTV News earlier this week. “And that’s why the video hasn’t come out yet. And to follow up ‘Find Your Love’ and ‘Miss Me,’ I really wanted to do something different, conceptually, and so I had this amazing idea and now I’m debating whether I should reshoot it or go straight to ‘Show Me a Good Time.’ But there should be a new Drake visual in the next little bit.” The Thank Me Later star said the “Fancy” clip was directed by Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna), who also helmed “Over,” “Find Your Love” and “Miss Me” for Drake. According to Drake, the two are deciding what to do next, and the rapper is enthusiastic about the forthcoming production, regardless of which song they decide to shoot. “It’s something to look forward to,” he said. “I’m excited by it.” Next up, Drake will appear in Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” video. Ross talked to MTV News about the clip earlier this month, saying the visual was “dope.” “We were just going over treatments for ‘Aston Martin Music,’ ” Ross said. “We’re going to shoot the dope version: Drake’s going to be rapping his verse and Chrisette [Michele will be there] and most definitely me. We’re just finalizing all the details. We should be shooting that hopefully next week, so look for that real soon.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake Related Artists Drake

Ne-Yo Calls Potential Lady Gaga Collabo ‘Intriguing’

‘Would I jump into her world? Would I pull her into mine?’ he says to MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Ne-Yo Photo: Kim Schier / MTV News While Lady Gaga has worked with everyone from RedOne and Akon to Teddy Riley and Rodney Jerkins, she sticks to a pretty tight-knit group of collaborators when it comes to her albums, including the forthcoming Born This Way. But that doesn’t mean singer/songwriter Ne-Yo hasn’t been trying to get in the studio with the “Bad Romance” songstress. “We’ve been talking to Gaga’s people about some stuff,” he said. “Gaga’s very difficult to get a hold of as of late, for obvious reasons. She’s very busy. We’ve been talking to her people about doing some stuff.” Ne-Yo is best known for working with artists like Rihanna and Beyonc

Nelly Promises St. Lunatics Album In November

‘We’re good for those novelty records like that,’ he tells MTV News of first single ‘Polo.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Nelly Photo: MTV News November is going to be a busy month for Nelly. The rapper is scheduled to drop his forthcoming solo effort 5.0, featuring the top 10 hit “Just a Dream,” that month, and, after a 10-year hiatus, the St. Lunatics are finally readying their sophomore set, which will also hit shelves in November. “A lot of y’all been following us,” Nelly told MTV News of the St. Lunatics. “You know the history. Our first album was called Free City, in honor of my little brother [City Spud] who was locked up right before we dropped Country Grammar. He wasn’t with us, and we dropped the first Lunatic album. We didn’t want to do another Lunatic album until he came out. We kinda got crossed up with that, ’cause we were hoping almost every year it would be the year he got out. Had we known he wouldn’t get out till nine years later, obviously, we would have done another Lunatic album. But my brother is free now.” The new project will be called City Free. The first single from the collection will be “Polo,” a nod to the clothing line. The song follows in the footsteps of past Nelly hits like “Air Force Ones,” a tribute to the Nike basketball sneakers. Nelly laughed as he talked about the track but said that type of record is a sincere effort by his crew. “We’re good for those novelty records like that,” he said. “But I think we do it best. We can’t help it. It’s a part of that culture [in St. Louis]. All of [those records] was banging! Stop me when it don’t work.” Are you looking forward to new music from the St. Lunatics? Selena Gomez Says Fans Inspired A Year Without Rain

Disney star says her supporters ‘deserve the spotlight as much as I do.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez already has a stamp of approval from Taylor Swift for her new album, A Year Without Rain, and now she’s hoping her fans are equally delighted with the record, which dropped Tuesday (September 21). In fact, she had her fans in mind for every decision and detail in the album process. “[I named the album after my single] because it’s the name of the first song I recorded to put on the record. I feel like that song has a lot of meaning, and it also kind of was the start of what I wanted to base all the other songs around,” she told MTV News. “I mean, even down from putting the track listing and numbering it, I wanted to make sure I envisioned [fans] putting it in their car or putting it on their iPod and how I wanted them to listen to the record.” Many of the songs on A Year Without Rain are inspired by Selena’s dedicated fans. “I wanted to make sure it made people feel good, but I also dedicated a couple songs to my fans, because there were moments onstage that I wish I could give to them, because they mean so much to me,” she explained. “So there are songs like ‘Intuition’ and ‘Spotlight’ that are specifically for my fans and a way of saying, ‘I get to live such a great life, but you guys deserve the spotlight as much as I do.’ ” Gomez said the album can be enjoyed at home or on the dance floor. “I think you can see that it’s more of a dance/techno vibe,” she said. “I wanted it to be a feel-good record.” Are you excited to get your hands on Selena’s new music? Nelly Says A Diddy Pep Talk Influenced His 5.0

‘He was like, ‘Let’s go! What are you waiting on?’ ‘ Nelly recalls of getting motivated after 2008 effort. By Jayson Rodriguez Nelly Photo: MTV News Diddy is wearing gold fronts, sporting enormous amounts of jewelry and riding shotgun with a superstar MC in videos these days as if it were the Bad Boy era of ’94 all over again. But while most attribute Diddy’s rejuvenation to his newfound affiliation with Miami rapper Rick Ross, to hear Nelly explain it, credit for the hip-hop mogul’s revitalized state belongs to the St. Louis star. “I got him back in that mode, ask him,” Nelly told MTV News. “I told him — that’s my big brother — I told him, ‘Listen, you’re going too fast: Where you at with the music — people ain’t caught up yet. It’s good, but where you’re at, you got to bring it down. You got to get their attention first, then you can take them wherever you want to take them. My exact words were, ‘We need that “Hate Me Now” Diddy,” Nelly said, referring to the 1999 Nas track featuring Puff. In turn, the Bad Boy boss told Nelly that he needed to “speed it up.” “He was like, ‘Let’s go! What are you waiting on?’ Nelly recalled. He admitted that the advice forced him to reflect on whether Diddy’s words of wisdom might have merit. With his last album, 2008’s Brass Knuckles, Nelly experienced his first commercial disappointment. Although the album was certified gold, selling more than 500,000 copies, his previous efforts were all multiplatinum smashes. The rapper replayed Diddy’s talk in his head, and the result of that conversation, according to Nelly, is “Just a Dream,” the rapper’s first top 10 hit since 2005’s “Grillz,” featuring Paul Wall. “I was like, ‘You know what? You’re right,” Nelly said. “And I left the party to go to the studio.” Nelly’s upcoming album, 5.0, is scheduled for a November 16 release. The project is set to feature collaborations with Kelly Rowland and Jim Jonsin (“Gone”) , as well as the Notorious B.I.G.-sampling “1000 Stacks.” Are you glad to hear Nelly’s new album? Linkin Park Tell Thousand Suns Critics To ‘Go Find Something You Like’

‘We’re just going to make music that we like,’ Chester Bennington tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington Photo: MTV News By now, you’ve probably listened to Linkin Park ‘s A Thousand Suns somewhere between 20 and 50 times (just like Mike Shinoda told you to !), and you’ve probably formed a pretty solid opinion on the album. Either you think it’s a brave, ballsy reinvention of the band’s sound , or you hate it because, dude, where are the guitars ?!? Safe to say, A Thousand Suns is easily Linkin Park’s most divisive album, but no matter how you feel about it, the band is fine with it. After all, they stopped listening to other people’s opinions years ago. “When it comes to people’s opinions about the music, we know people are going to like some things, and some people are going to not like things, and that’s the greatness of opinion,” LP’s Chester Bennington told MTV News. “You don’t have to like something because someone told you it was good, and you don’t have to think something’s bad because someone says [it is]. “[And] there have been periods of our career where our maturity level might not be what it is today, and … like, we read 60 things that are positive about the band, and the one thing someone says they didn’t like, you’re like, ‘Oh God, I have to change my life,’ ” he continued. “And you know, you can get caught up in that kind of stuff. So we’ve decided — very clearly — that we’re just going to make music that we like, that is challenging to us to create and pushes us in a place that makes us feel uncomfortable and giddy, like we’re discovering something. As long as we do that, and we feel happy with the record we put out, then it’s like, ‘OK, we’ve done our best, and if you like it, great, and if you don’t, go find something that you like.’ ” To that end, though much of the criticism about Suns seems to focus on how different it is from LP’s previous efforts (that or the whole “no guitars” thing), Bennington said that those different moments are actually his favorite on the entire album … rather unapologetically so. “I think that ‘Waiting for the End’ and ‘Iridescent’ are probably tied at #1 [for my] favorite song on the record,” he said. “I just think they’re really beautiful. They’re different. I like the way ‘Iridescent’ builds and climaxes, I like the summertime vibe of ‘Waiting,’ and I like the lyrical content of it all, and the dynamic, too.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Linkin Park Related Artists Linkin Park
