By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Matt Elias Tyga Photo: MTV News Young Money’s Tyga recently caught up with Lil Wayne in jail and revealed that the multiplatinum superstar is doing well as he rides out his one-year prison sentence at Rikers Island in New York. “It was crazy to see him in there in that type of situation, but he’s doing good,” Tyga told MTV News on Tuesday. “He’s holding his head up.” Tyga caught up with the Young Money boss a few weeks ago. “He was basically just talking about his whole experience in there, everything that’s going on,” Tyga said. Weezy, who’s known for his superhuman work ethic and prolific musical output, is apparently focusing his energy on the new surroundings. “He knew everything about everything in there, so I was just basically listening to what he had to say.” Even though Lil Wayne keeps a blog that he occasionally updates and a Twitter page that is now maintained by his prot

Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato Bring ‘Camp’ To ‘Good Morning America’

JoBros recall ‘freaking out’ when they were stuck in an elevator last week. By MTV News Staff Nick Jonas Performs with the “Jonas Brothers” on “Good Morning America” Friday Photo: ABC Throngs of screaming girls gathered to watch the Jonas Brothers along with pal Demi Lovato when they all stopped by “Good Morning America” on Friday (May 21). The guys played old favorite “Burnin’ Up,” in addition to a new tune from their TV show, now called “JONAS L.A.,” and a track from their upcoming Disney movie. The brothers were joined by tourmate and “Camp Rock 2” co-star Demi Lovato for the first single off the movie’s soundtrack, “Can’t Back Down.” As backup dancers livened up the scene, Nick played drums and both Joe and Kevin played guitar. Although they burned up the audience with their performance, the hot topic of discussion on the show was the JoBros’ elevator incident that occurred last weekend after they played in Los Angeles. “We did a show at The Grove in L.A. and right after that happened, we got stuck in the elevator for like an hour,” Kevin Jonas explained. Joe admitted that since then, he’s been feeling if-y about riding in elevators. “Who panicked? I think we all had a moment where we were freaking out,” he said. “I’m gonna avoid elevators for a little while. I’ll take the stairs for now.” With the elevator fiasco behind them, Kevin said that everyone is just looking forward to the group’s big summer tour . “We have a blast, especially now because we’re all going on tour,” he said. “It’s going to be a summer like no other.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Jonas Brothers And Demi Lovato Related Artists Jonas Brothers Demi Lovato

Rick Ross Was ‘In Awe’ Of Jay-Z During Teflon Don Studio Session

‘He’s rubbing his head, like he puling his rhymes outta his mind,’ Ross recalls of Hov. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross says it was a process — an extremely entertaining process — that led up to the night Jay-Z recorded his verse for a yet-untitled record from Ross’ upcoming LP, Teflon Don. The rapper went to the last stop on Hov’s Blueprint 3 tour in Las Vegas and collaborated on a song he described as an atomic bomb. “You party in Tao [in Vegas] till 2 or 3 or 4 in the morning,” Ross said of how they kick off a session. “Twenty-five bottles of Ace [Of Spades]; 7 a.m., you was just hitting the crap tables. It’s 9-ish, 10-ish, so focused though [once you go to the studio]. That was the beauty in our bond — our respect for one another. I don’t just e-mail records or have somebody drop off a beat. “I was a roadie on the Blueprint 3 tour for a few dates,” he explained off tagging along with Hov. “It started off in St. Louis. I was just messing with everybody, kicking it with everybody, letting Jay hear my ideas and concepts. When you get the deluxe version of this album, we documented when I played the record. I played the track and my first verse,” Ross recalled. “I put in the PS3 behind the stage. “Played it, [Jay] listened to it,” he continued. “We played it, backed it up, played it again. Played it, backed it up, played it again. Backed it up, and he spit his verse. It’s gonna be magic for people to see Jay do his “Rain [Man]” when he’s rubbing his head, like he puling his rhymes outta his mind. Just to see somebody come up with a verse that potent in less than two or three minutes … ’cause it was just a snippet. The beat may have played for a minute and a half and started over,” a process Ross says was repeated a few times as Jay composed. “He had his 16, an idea for the chorus. Trey Songz, all of us standing around in awe.” Ross said he’s still shocked that Jay came with a verse so fresh in such a short amount of time. “It’s most definitely a surreal feeling,” the Bawse added. “Something that’s real hard to describe. When you have that camaraderie with someone, and you all continue to raise the bar somewhat — it blowed the whole room. Shout out to [Jay-Z cohorts] O.G. Juan, Tah Tah. One of the words I said in my verse, it triggered something in [Jay’s] mind. He had so many things to say about it. The content of the record, it’s gonna answer a lot of things that’s been circulating. It’s going to be moving.” The Miami native said the song doesn’t have a title yet because he wants to be very deliberate about naming what he thinks will be an atomic record. “It’s still untitled. I have two or three ideas. But you know, the chorus is so powerful. It’s two or three words that’s said, I just haven’t decided. But we took it to that next level.” Are you excited to hear the new offering from Ross and Jay? Let us know in the comments! Perez Hilton Calls Travis Garland An ‘Authentic Artist’

Gossip blogger says his artist is only at the ‘beginning of the beginning’ of his career. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Perez Hilton Photo: MTV News On Wednesday night’s “American Idol,” the world was introduced to Travis Garland, an artist gossip blogger Perez Hilton hopes to launch as the next big thing. Perez thinks Garland’s debut single, “Believe,” is a track that will pique music fans’ interest. “I’m so excited to be working with Travis, because he’s the first artist that I found [and] have been involved with every step of the way,” Perez told MTV News at Garland’s rehearsal for his “Idol” debut. “And we’re at this amazing moment now, and it’s exciting to see it already working. And that’s just the beginning of the beginning. “We’re looking forward to taking him on the road this summer all over and seeing his fans,” Hilton added. “He’s already got girls and guys and people who are familiar with him from NLT.” Perez is referring to the now-defunct boy band that included Garland and “Glee” star Kevin McHale, until they broke up last year. While Hilton wasn’t too familiar with NLT, he learned about Garland on the Web. “I became aware of Travis thanks to the Internet,” he said. “Over a year ago, I started working with Travis. Around that time, he did a reworking of Justin Timberlake’s song ‘Dead and Gone’ with T.I., and I loved Travis’ version so much. I was like, ‘Wow, this is different.’ And it felt real and dangerous and edgy and raw, and I was like, ‘I need to meet this kid.’ I was really blown away.” The gossip gangster believes Garland has the “it” factor. “What’s special about Travis Garland is, he’s not only a great singer and a great dancer, but he’s also a songwriter,” Perez boasted. “He also plays piano. He also produces, and he’s just a real, authentic artist. And that’s what people want nowadays.” What did you think of Garland’s debut on “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments!

Demi Lovato Talks Working With Kara DioGuardi On ‘Camp Rock 2’

‘It was great to work with her again after she’s had so much success,’ Lovato says of ‘American Idol’ judge. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News For “Camp Rock 2,” the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato didn’t mess with a winning formula. They once again worked with “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi for the soundtrack, which will be on display when the foursome hits the road this summer . “She worked on a lot of the first ‘Camp Rock’ songs too, and then she went on to do ‘American Idol,’ and I remember watching her on ‘American Idol’ and being like, ‘Oh! That’s Kara! That’s awesome!’ ” Lovato said of working with the songwriter. “And then she did a lot for ‘Camp Rock 2’ too. It was great to work with her again after she’s had so much success. It’s been so awesome. I’ve been so happy for her.” With so many great songs on the album, the Disney stars still managed to pick their favorites. “My favorite song on the soundtrack would probably be ‘This Is Our Song,’ ” Lovato admitted. “It’s kind of like the song where we all get together. We all sing it at the end. I feel like it will be an anthem for a lot of people.” Nick Jonas weighed in, saying “What We Came Here For” tops his because it takes place at a very momentous point in the flick: “It’s kind of our final performance. It’s a great song.” Kevin’s favorite recalled a more retro vibe. “I liked ‘Heart and Soul,’ ” he said. “It had a Huey Lewis and the News feel. And [the scene] was like back on the same camp where we filmed the whole movie in Haliburton [Ontario]. So it was kind of cool to bring back those memories.” Leave it to Joe, though, to give props to his lady on his favorite song. ” ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing,’ ” he said. “Demi’s vocals sound really great. Although it was freezing cold when we filmed it, it’s a special piece in the movie.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Demi Lovato Says She’ll Hold Her Own On Tour With Jonas Brothers

‘I always hold my own, get it straight,’ the Disney star says of being the only girl on tour. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News It isn’t easy being the only girl surrounded by guys sometimes. That’s why when Demi Lovato hits the road with the Jonas Brothers this summer for their tour, she promises that she isn’t going to let anyone mess with her. “I always hold my own, get it straight!” she joked to MTV News on Tuesday, when she and the guys spoke about their summer tour, which kicks off in Dallas in June. “I’m just kidding! It’ll be fun. I’m excited. I’m representing. It’ll be fun.” The “Camp Rock 2” co-stars think the timing for this tour is perfect, because the fans have been waiting for it. “It’s been a minute since we’ve been on the road, and we’re really excited to get back out there and see our fans,” Kevin said. “We have new material as well. We have a lot of stuff from ‘Camp Jock,’ ‘JONAS,’ and it’s going to be a lot of good times.” Not only will the tour feature the JoBros and Lovato, but also some special surprise guests from the “Camp Rock” universe. “We’re working out all the details right now for the tour,” Nick said. “It’s gonna be a fun night of music. I think all of us are just anxious to get out there and play for our fans. That’s the most important part for us and bringing some friends from ‘Camp Rock,’ as well. And, obviously, having Demi will be great and we’re looking forward to it.” While there will be plenty of “Camp Rock” songs on the tour, the guys say fans should brace themselves for a full on JoBros tour. “It’s a Jonas Brothers tour, as usual. We just thought it’d be great to integrate [other] musical outlets as well,” Kevin added. “We thought it was a great way for our opening acts to have a place in the show as well. It’s gonna be fun, ’cause we know everybody. We’ve been doing a movie together for a while.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Jonas Brothers And Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato Jonas Brothers

Lil Wayne Is ‘Probably Dying To Spit,’ Jay Sean Says

‘He’s gonna come out and do 100 albums,’ Jay tells MTV News of imprisoned Cash Money superstar. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Tim Kash Jay Sean Photo: Nuzhat Naoreen/ MTV News Cash Money hero Jay Sean said the label’s cornerstone act is doing as well as can be expected in prison. Sean said several members of Cash Money — including the CEOs, Ronald “Slim” Williams and his brother Bryan “Baby” Williams — visit Lil Wayne frequently. “They go and see him once a week,” Jay said recently in New York. “Either Baby will go in one week and Slim will go the other week. His boys will go and see him. [Wayne is] good. He’s doing well.” Besides seeing his family, Jay said Weezy is longing to get back in the studio. “I think the hardest thing for Wayne right now is not being in the studio,” he said. “That’s it. That’s probably the only thing; he’s probably dying to spit. Think about it. The guy was making a new song every day, every hour. He’s gonna come out and do 100 albums. “I’m sure it’s all up in here,” Jay added, alluding to the fact that Wayne doesn’t write his lyrics down. When Sean asks Slim and Baby about Wayne, “It’s the same thing,” he said. ” ‘How’s he doing? Is he cool?’ Hopefully he’s not getting into any trouble. They say he’s getting better and better. He’s more positive. He can’t wait to come out.” Besides the Cash Money Millionaires, Wayne also had a high-profile visit in prison from Diddy . Jay Sean Would ‘Love To Work With Rihanna’ On Next Album

‘Down’ singer is more than halfway done with the project, set to include Lil Wayne, Pitbull and more. By Akshay Bhansali, with reporting by Tim Kash Jay Sean Photo: Nuzhat Naoreen/ MTV News Sorry, Jay Sean fans. If you were expecting a new song to follow his first two Stateside singles “Down” and “Do You Remember,” you’ll be disappointed. While many a message board (and Sean himself, at one point) touted the ballad “War” as his third single, the pop/R&B singer has, in fact, moved on — not on to another gem from his U.S. debut, All or Nothing, but a brand-spankin’-new album. “We are basically straight on to the next one,” Sean told MTV News when we caught up with him at the New York studio of the Orange Factory, the production outfit behind the majority of All. “I was already halfway through the album by the time ‘Do You Remember’ was hitting radio. We listened to it, and we were like, ‘You know what? I want to hit them with something fresh right now, not something that is off [this] album. Let’s go now, while we are ahead of the game, while we are ahead of the curve.’ ” Last September, Jay Sean became the most successful male U.K. urban artist in U.S. chart history, with “Down” topping the Billboard Hot 100 . The singer is now well on his way to releasing a new album. “I’d say we are three-quarters done,” Sean said. “The majority of the album is [produced] by the Orange Factory, the same people who did ‘Down’ and ‘Do You Remember.’ I think this album is a little more grown and sexy. Not saying that I’ve grown older and sexier, but for me, this album is a natural progression. And that’s where I wanted to go and where it felt right. After dropping two singles, boasting the likes of Lil Wayne , Sean Paul and Lil Jon, the artist from Hounslow, England, already has a few more exciting partnerships in the can for this next project — and another he’s hoping will come to fruition. And Sean recently made his own guest feature on Mary J. Blige’s emotional “Each Tear.” “She’s actually gonna be on my album as well,” Sean said of Blige. “You’re gonna see Pitbull on the album. Wayne, of course. We are gonna get some of the Young Money characters involved. But really, I’d love to work with Rihanna. So I’m gonna see if I can come up with the right song for that.” Who would you like to see featured on Jay Sean’s next album? Tell us in the comments! And what he really wanted to know was how Joe and his “Camp Rock 2” co-star and real-life love, Demi Lovato, are planning to balance out their love and their jobs on tour. “We don’t know yet! We’re both really excited!” Joe said about their summer tour, which kicks off in July, when the band, along with Lovato, chatted on “Good Morning America” via video hookup from Los Angeles. We’re going to be bringing the movie to life everywhere we go,” Kevin explained. But, the conversation didn’t stay on the topic of touring for long. And, Kevin gave fans an update of his life being married to Danielle . “It’s great. It’s amazing being with your best friend everyday,” he shared. “It’s so nice to have that relationship there and beyond that a partnership.” And, he said that like Joe, he’ll have his lady on the road with him. “She will be [there],” he said. “We have a dog, Riley, as well.” But the conversation wasn’t all about the band’s love life; the guys also shared what their most interesting fan gift of all time has ever been. Jay Sean Agrees With Usher’s Comments: ‘Longevity Trumps Everything’

Usher recently said British R&B stars like Sean and Taio Cruz ‘have a lot to prove.’ By Akshay Bhansali Jay Sean Photo: Nuzhat Naoreen/ MTV News With two monster singles in “Down” (featuring Lil Wayne) and “Do You Remember” (featuring Sean Paul and Lil Jon) , British pop/R&B singer Jay Sean has delivered for Cash Money Records and his fans around the world. Sean recently invited MTV News into the New York studio of the Orange Factory — the production team behind the majority of his debut album, All or Nothing — to let fans know that he’s already moved on to his next album. In fact, he’s roughly three-quarters done with it. Still, as eager as Sean was to introduce us to the direction and tone of his forthcoming project, he was also aware of some comments lobbied at him by a fellow R&B star. A few weeks back, while on a promotional tour, Usher spoke to MTV UK’s Wrap-Up urban blog and was asked what he thought of the Stateside success of British R&B artists like Sean and “Break Your Heart” singer Taio Cruz. “Sustaining longevity is all about time,” Usher said. “They have a lot to prove.” While Sean could have responded aggressively the comments, he went a different route. “He’s been in the game for, what, 17 years? I completely agree with what he says,” Sean said. “Longevity trumps everything. America has only heard one album. “I’ve only had four Billboard top 20’s in America so far,” Sean said with a smile. “But that’s still new.” Some music fans aren’t even aware of Sean’s chart assault, which gained the attention of Ronald “Slim” Williams, co-CEO of Cash Money Records, and eventually led to his joining the CM roster. “Outside of America, maybe Usher doesn’t know that I’ve been touring and recording for seven years,” Sean said. “This [ All or Nothing follow-up] is my fourth studio album. I’ve had a couple of multiplatinum albums on my own record label. But he wouldn’t know that if he didn’t do his research or nobody told him.” With that said, it appears Sean agrees that a solid career in the music industry is defined by consistency and quality. And he eagerly awaits the opportunity to share his new material with an ever-growing American fanbase. “I’m so new to America,” he said. “I’ve got so much more to show them, so much more to give them.” What do you think of Sean’s music? Could he match Usher’s lengthy career? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Jay Sean Related Artists Jay Sean Usher
