Whitney Port Calls ‘The Hills’ Final Season ‘Bittersweet’

‘I think it’s ending on a good point,’ the ‘City’ star says about season six, premiering tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Whitney Port Photo: MTV News While Whitney Port has moved on to “The City,” which kicks off its new season Tuesday night (April 27), she got her start interning with LC at Teen Vogue on the first season of “The Hills.” Now that she’s working for Kelly Cutrone in New York, she’s looking at the final season of “The Hills” as a sweet swan song, especially since it will have so many twists and turns. “My reaction to hearing about the last season of ‘The Hills’ was kind of bittersweet,” Port told MTV News. “I mean, at first I feel so far removed from it, where I was like, at first, it didn’t really affect me, and [now] it’s sad. But I think it’s ending on a good point. I think it’s one of those things where it should end where the popularity is still pretty high, and I know it’s sad for me, because once Lauren left, I think the show totally changed.” So would Port consider coming back to bid the show farewell? “There’s been some rumblings of coming back for something,” she hinted. “But I’m not sure if it’s actually going to happen.” Port said she’s totally game to reconnect with her West Coast crew for one last time with the cameras rolling. “I would definitely be open to it,” she said. “It started this whole thing for me. So I’m so grateful and thankful for it, and I still think it’s a really fun show, so I’d love to be a part of it.” Would you like to see Whitney come back one more time on “The Hills”? Tell us in the comments! “The City” premieres Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT after “The Hills” at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Solar Defends Guru’s Final Letter: ‘Those Are His Words’

‘This is what Guru wanted, not what Solar wanted,’ the Gang Starr MC’s friend tells MTV News about controversial statement. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Sway Calloway Solar and Sway Photo: MTV News The controversy over Guru’s last statement to the public continues. On Tuesday, after the Gang Starr MC’s death , his friend Solar put out a letter that he said Guru wrote in his final days. The letter had Guru distancing himself from his Gang Starr partner, DJ Premier. Fans, fellow MCs and even Guru’s family questioned whether the letter was authentic. Solar maintained the same stance he had on Tuesday afternoon when he talked with MTV News: The letter is real, and he had not doctored the words. “This is what Guru wanted, not what Solar wanted,” Solar told Sway on Wednesday (April 21). “Only thing I can say is, when he wrote his statements and we recorded his life story [Solar said that he and Guru also wrote the MC’s life story months ago], he recorded it the way he saw it. He didn’t record it to fit somebody else’s desires. He didn’t write his story or his records to fit what Gang Starr fans wanted or what Jazzmatazz fans wanted. He did his music and lived his life according to what Guru wanted. Guru is a man. He lived his own life. He was in no way, shape or form not living his life according to his own plans. He wasn’t being dictated to. He wasn’t being told what to do. He made his own decisions. He ate what he wanted to eat, lived where he wanted to live, dated who he wanted to date.” Solar said he and Guru put the letter together in January, one month prior to him being admitted in the hospital, where he would stay until he died Monday of myeloma cancer. When asked if the words were 100 percent Guru’s, Solar said: “To the most part. When it’s written, you put it in the proper framework. But yes, these are his words. “Guru wrote some of it himself,” Solar added. “The myeloma affected his hands, his coordination. So he sat down and talked to me. I made physical notes, and I made mental notes of his life, strategic events, songs, concepts. We realized over the last year these things had to be documented. His particular document had to be edited down from a larger statement, which was two statements combined. It was [originally] one statement: ‘If I’m in the hospital and things get to a certain point, what do I want to release to the fans?’ He had a statement that was released earlier, and people said, ‘Oh, it’s not Guru.’ Every major star, every major athlete who passes and releases a statement through their loved ones, this is standard. There’s nothing odd about this.” On Wednesday, Guru’s family released a statement refuting points in the letter Solar released, including mention of a charity organization. DJ Premier released his own statement expressing his love for his former music partner. Share your memories of Guru and Gang Starr in the comments below. Jonas Brothers Rooting For Michael Lynche on ‘American Idol’

‘He’s one of my favorites right now,’ Joe Jonas says of Big Mike. By Jocelyn Vena The Jonas Brothers Photo: MTV News The Jonas Brothers were probably pretty relieved when the “American Idol” judges saved Michael Lynche a couple of weeks back. It seems the mop-topped trio are really rooting for the singer to win it all. “I don’t know all of their names, but what is the guy that sang that … Big Mike! I think he has an amazing voice,” Joe Jonas told MTV News. “He’s really talented. I want to say he’s one of my favorites right now.” Joe and his brothers say that even if Lynche doesn’t win, they are sure he has a very bright future ahead of him. “On ‘American Idol,’ they’re all so talented, and even if you don’t win, it seems like a majority of them end up becoming winners of their own because they are so talented,” he said of successful “Idol” alumni like Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Clay Aiken, who didn’t win their seasons. Joe knows a thing or two about season nine of “Idol,” since he has already appeared as a guest judge during the Dallas auditions and performed with Demi Lovato during a results show. But the guys aren’t sure whether they will stop by again this season. “It seems like it’s getting pretty close to the end,” Joe said. “But who knows? We found out I was performing [on ‘Idol’] like three days before.” Do you agree with the Jonas Brothers and think Michael Lynche will win “American Idol”? Tell us in the comments! Justin Bieber ‘Might Have’ Tried Out For ‘American Idol’

‘My mom used to watch it when I was little and we were like, ‘I could get on there, you know,’ ‘ singer says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber was spotted in the audience at “American Idol” a few weeks back when his mentor Usher performed on the show . But Bieber himself will get the opportunity to perform on the “Idol” stage during Wednesday’s (April 21) “Idol Gives Back” special . And the singer said he could have easily been one of the contestants on the stage if everything had worked differently. “For sure! You know … we used to watch [the show]. Me and my mom used to watch it when I was little and we were like, ‘I could get on there, you know,’ ” he told MTV News. “When I turned 16, I might have went and tried out, but this was faster,” he said of being discovered on YouTube. Bieber also said that he stopped by the show to help out with charitable organizations and actually did not give advice to any of the “Idol” hopefuls. “It was great. I was just there. I didn’t really work with any of the contestants,” he said. “I was there supporting Usher when he performed.” “Idol” producers handpicked Bieber as one of the many artists to grace the “Idol Gives Back” stage. “I looked at that night as a good night for him to be on, because he’s absolutely phenomenal,” executive producer C

Ke$ha Dances With Snakes For ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ Video

‘This is the video where I really got to play with animals and a hot bearded guy in the desert,’ the singer says. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha on the set of her “Your Love Is My Drug” video Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News Recently, photos of Ke$ha prancing around the desert for her “Your Love Is My Drug” video hit the Web and fans immediately began to wonder what the singer had planned for the clip. MTV News got a few details from the singer herself about the sexy video. “In my video for ‘Your Love Is My Drug,’ it has a lot of animals in it, so that’s exciting ’cause I’m a huge animal lover and I get to actually, like, hang out and ride and perform with animals,” she said about the clip, shot in Lancaster, California, last week. “For more details, check out my video,” she added. However, we were able to get a few more details out of the singer. “I am wearing an animal mask,” Ke$ha continued. “I’ll give away one of them. I do get to perform glowing in the dark, in a cave, with a python wrapped around my body. So if that’s not sexy, I don’t know what is.” She says the video will also help to clear up any theories as to why she named her debut Animal. “I love animals — that’s why my record’s called Animal. People have their theories about why I called my record Animal — it’s really just because I’m obsessed with animals and I feel like I am an animal and I want to bring that out in people,” she said. “So this is the video where I really got to play with animals and a hot bearded guy in the desert. It’s so good! Just watch it!” Are you excited to see Ke$ha’s new video? Let us know in the comments below! Justin Bieber Says He Gets Hip-Hop Support Because He’s Not ‘Corny’

‘I’m really glad they’ve taken a liking to me,’ singer says of supporters like Ludacris and Lil Wayne. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber chills with Drake and Ludacris and he’s even gotten a shout-out from Lil Wayne — how does he feel about being embraced by the hip-hop community? “I like hop-hop a lot. I’m really glad they’ve taken a liking to me,” he told MTV News recently. “Having Luda [on my song ‘Baby’] and having Lil Wayne give me shout me out on UStream and, like, you know — it’s cool.” He added that unlike many of his contemporaries, including pop stars Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, he didn’t need the House of Mouse to get ahead in the industry. “I think it’s because I didn’t go through the Disney route,” he explained. “I didn’t go corny, but, like, at the same time I’ve been cool and collected.” And while one of his musical icons got his start on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” Bieber still looks up to Justin Timberlake and his mentor, Usher. “Well, basically I look at people like Usher and Justin Timberlake and how they went from being a child star to blowing up and doing what they’re doing now,” he said. “I look up and see what they do and see that’s what I want to do … and things that I want to do that’s different and things that I wanna do that’s working for them.” And although he’s working for Usher these days, he admitted he wouldn’t pass up the chance to work with Wayne. “I would love to work with him in the future, but nothing so far,” he explained, adding that despite all the hip-hop in his life he’s actually got a lot of friends who are strictly pop. “I mean, I just hang out with whoever. I’m also friends with Selena Gomez. I hang out with everyone,” he said, adding any rumors of a swagger coach have been greatly exaggerated . “I mean, it’s just a joke. It’s just something we made up. … I don’t know; I’m just myself.” MTV News will be rolling out highlights from our exclusive sit-down interview with Justin Bieber all week! Justin Bieber Would Love To Cast Megan Fox For Next Video

‘That would be awesome,’ Bieber says of ‘Transformers’ star. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber has already released several memorable videos from his My World 2.0 album. He’s gone bowling with Drake and Ludacris in his “Baby” music video . Fallen in love in the Bahamas for “Never Let You Go.” And, he’s even thrown one killer pool party with Sean Kingston for his “Eenie Meenie” video . So what does Bieber have planned for his next big single? He’s still working out the specifics. “I think it’s gonna be ‘Somebody to Love,’ ” Bieber told MTV News on Sunday in an exclusive sit-down just 12 hours after he appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” noting that he’s not the main person who handles video decisions. “I don’t know. I mean, the label is on my side and [manager] Scooter [Braun is], but I don’t really know,” he explained. “It could be ‘U Smile’ [or ‘Somebody to Love’] or anything.” However, Bieber is pulling for “Somebody to Love.” The tune — not to be confused with the Leighton Meester, Queen or Jefferson Airplane songs of the same name — is a dance track where he professes his love for a girl and tells her he’d do anything for her. “It’s basically about somebody to love,” he laughed. “It’s cool. It’s young. It’s nice. I think it’s like a universal record.” Bieber, though, said that a concept for the song’s video hasn’t been pinned down yet — nor has a co-star. And with several adorable girls already starring in his videos, when Megan Fox was suggested, he said, “That would be great. That would be awesome. I don’t know yet. I have a lot of things to think about right now. We’ll figure it out.” MTV News will be rolling out highlights from our exclusive sit-down with Justin Bieber all week! Drake Explains Why No Other Young Money Artists Are On His Tour

Artists like Nicki Minaj and Gudda Gudda ‘are doing their own thing,’ he says. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News After Monday night’s kickoff in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Drake’s Away From Home Tour is under way. The outing lasts until the end of May, so fans of the 23 year-old performer have ample time to catch and opening acts Francis and the Lights and K-OS on the road. But what about his family from Young Money? “A lot of the Young Money artists are doing their own thing,” Drake explained to MTV News on his opening night. “I know Nicki [Minaj] is recording her album. Gudda is on a run right now. “It was never brought to me that anybody had the time permitting to be on this tour for two months,” Drizzy continued. “Everybody is working on their albums and stuff like that. I love what a lot of people in Young Money have going on right now. But at the same time, I did say to myself I didn’t want other rappers on this tour opening up.” Drake also said that he didn’t feel comfortable placing his fellow Young Money artists on an “opening” level below him. “I didn’t want to stick anybody in my opening slot,” he added. “Nicki Minaj is a superstar, so to ask her to be on [the tour], unless we split the tour and both had equal time … Gudda, same thing. Gudda has his own things going on. They’re my friends, my family, I just don’t feel comfortable being like, ‘You wanna come open for me?’ It’s a weird thing. But I love ’em all. They’re all doing great things.” Who would you want to see opening up for Drake? Share your ideas in the comments. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake

50 Cent Looking For New G-Unit Recruits, Including Robert Pattinson?

‘ ‘Twilight’ ain’t no joke,’ the MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Susan Younis 50 Cent Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive It’s been a while since we had Curtis Jackson around these parts in Mixtape Daily. Our fellow Queens native has been on the road for a while, making movies and touring overseas. While hollering at our colleagues at MTV UK, Fif revealed that he wants his Black Magic album to drop before summer is over — oh, and the title has nothing to do with witchcraft. “I don’t believe in voodoo,” he said. “But it’ll be very addictive. The first time you’ll hear it, you’ll remember the songs that’s on there. It’s designed for fun — for listening pleasure. “I’m not in a hurry,” he added about the recording process and release date. “I kind of planned on releasing Black Magic … I gave myself a goal to try and put it out by the end of the summer, so I’ll work that hard on the actual project. If I don’t feel it’s ready by the end of the summer, I’ll just jeep it.” Fif is also going on tour this summer, but said members of his current G-Unit family, including Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, most likely won’t make the trek. “It’s interesting because they probably won’t be coming with me. In the U.S., Banks has momentum with the first single off his new album, ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley.’ So he’ll be out [on his own tour] with H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger For More 2). While he’s doing that, it probably wouldn’t make sense for Yayo to come with me because his record is almost done now — he should use that time to complete his record and release it shortly after. But I’ll be running around.” No Banks or Yayo, but Fif says he will not be alone — he’s recruiting new members to his camp now. “You’ll see new faces, because I’m looking for new artists now. I’ll sign new artists and take them with me and kinda groom them. I don’t specifically say, ‘I want this kind of artist’ — I look for talent that inspires me, that complements what I do with their own thing. Some of the stuff you can’t teach a person; they gotta have it.” While 50 didn’t name any specific prospects, but did say he wouldn’t mind adding movie heartthrob Robert Pattinson to the Unit’s fold. The star of the “Twilight” franchise (50 said he’s seen “New Moon”) has dabbled in singing in addition to his acting. “Robert Pattinson. He has a big enough following to be the frontline,” 50 laughed. ” ‘Twilight’ ain’t no joke.” What rapper or singer would you like to see join 50 Cent’s G-Unit? Let us know in the comments below! Drake Says ‘Over’ Video ‘Takes The Song To Another Place’

‘It offers up a whole different look for the song,’ MC says of the clip. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News According to Drake, his video for “Over” should be out very soon and the clip shows a choice he had to make in real life. “It captures … it takes the song to another place,” he told MTV News in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, during the opening night of his Away From Home Tour . “It offers up a whole different look for the song. The song — to a lot of people — is ignorant, it’s club. This video is what I was really thinking about. The song is like a bad dream — but it’s not a bad dream, it’s not a terrible dream. It’s a little evil. The video really reflects that. It’s a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer. Even in the video, you see me looking back and forth between the two and deciding. At the end of the video I don’t necessarily make a decision, but when you get the album, you’ll see what choice I make.” “Over” is early in the Thank Me Later track list, and is part of a story that’s told through the album. “Initially it was a warm-up record,” he added of “Over.” “I love the song. I love the message in the song. It’s funny, because ‘Over’ is the fourth song on the album and it’s the turning point in the album. It’s like, you get three songs of me sort of trying to paint the picture of what the last year has been like for me — trying to fill you in, almost let you into my world as much as I can. ‘Over’ is that moment where you’re almost worried on the album. ‘Is this kid about to … ? What’s happening? Is he changing?’ I wanted that to come out first. I wanted people to be a little nervous. This whole journey could have changed me drastically. Fortunately I’m able to step out of my shoes and reflect on it and give you some great music. ‘Over’ is a great alter-ego moment. It’s the dark side of things and I really wanted that to come out first.” Thank Me Later is in stores June 15. Are you looking forward to the premiere of Drake’s video for “Over”?
