One Direction To Star In 3-D Concert Film?

Reports have 1D attached to a 3-D flick set to hit theaters next November, though details on the project are scarce. By James Montgomery One Direction Photo: Uptin Saiidi/MTV News Coming soon to a theater near you (maybe): It’s 1D … in 3-D! Yes, according to a report in the British newspaper The Sun, One Direction are set to star in an eye-popping 3-D film that is slated to begin filming next year. Which means that very soon, 1D obsessives will be able to plumb the depths of Harry’s dimples, explore the peaks of Niall’s mane or slalom down Zayn’s cheekbones … all in three very life-like dimensions. Of course, the plot of the film (as if it really matters) has yet to be determined, with The Sun reporting that it may either be a scripted comedy — “a camper in the style of old Monkees films,” is how a source put it — or a documentary, featuring clips of the too-cute quintet in concert. “It’s early days, but it’s something that their management and label are excited about,” the source is quoted as saying. “All options are open, though they’re unlikely to get cracking on shooting it until next year.” The still untitled (and unscripted) 1D film will reportedly hit theaters on November 8, 2013, and it is intended to be an answer to Justin Bieber’s massively successful 3-D flick “Never Say Never,” which surpassed Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” to become the biggest concert film in U.S. history last year. “U.S. film experts are speculating that the 1D film would be similar to Justin’s movie and will be a big money-spinner for the boys,” the source told The Sun. Just how big of a, uh, “money-spinner” remains to be seen, though The Sun reported that the One Direction guys stand to make as much as &163;10 million ($15 million) each from the film. Of course, there’s still no official word on the project, and a spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Would you see 1D in 3-D? Justin Bieber Spotted Kissing A Brunette On ‘Boyfriend’ Set

Singer kisses the hand of his female co-star on the L.A. set of upcoming music video. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the set of his “Boyfriend” video in Los Angeles Photo: Splash News Justin Bieber seems to be getting romantic in his video for “Boyfriend.” The singer was spotted over the weekend in Los Angeles shooting more scenes from the highly anticipated clip. In one picture, Bieber is seen kissing a dark-haired lady’s hand. In addition to getting cozy with the pretty lady, Bieber jumps into a convertible on a set with a few muscle cars. If fans are worried about what girlfriend Selena Gomez might think of Bieber being affectionate with his onscreen co-star, they shouldn’t worry. Gomez reportedly stopped by the set to visit her BF, according to Gossipcop.com , and the pair shared in a few offscreen kisses. Justin has been hard at work on his “Boyfriend” video for a while now. And he made it clear to MTV News that despite the song’s lyrics, he won’t be donning any costumes in the Colin Tilley-directed video. “I won’t be dressed up as Buzz Lightyear,” he said. “I think there’s some copyright issues; I can’t use that.” The new stills give fans another glimpse of what to expect from the video, which have up until now mostly been teases of the singer in shadow or with only a black backdrop behind him as women put their hands all over him. “The concept of this video , I mean, it’s not like a steady concept,” he said back in March. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. “It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off Bieber’s June 19 release, Believe. What do you think of the latest shots from Justin’s “Boyfriend” video? Coldplay Reveal Rihanna Clip From ‘Princess Of China’ Video

Pop star is in goddess mode in snippet from upcoming video, which band teased during Canadian tour stop. By John Mitchell Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Rihanna Photo: Getty Images Coldplay teased the upcoming video for their latest Mylo Xyloto single, “Princess of China,” during a tour stop in Edmonton, Canada, giving concertgoers their first look at Rihanna rocking the look she tweeted about from the video’s set in March. During the band’s performance of the song, the Barbadian pop diva appeared on an overhead video in full-on goddess mode with multiple sets of hands fanning out behind her and moving to the beat of the song. The guys of Coldplay are big fans of the “We Found Love” singer and told MTV News last year that they were excited to work with her because it was an opportunity to cross genres. “Her bit on our record is my favorite bit,” frontman Chris Martin told MTV News in September. “When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we’ve been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music.” Coldplay have not yet announced when the full “Princess of China” video will premiere. Rihanna, who is also featured in Drake’s “Take Care” video , is readying her own clip for her new single “Where Have You Been.” She hasn’t said when the video will debut, but she posted some sexy stills from the clip to her Facebook earlier this week. One Direction Offer A Lesson In British Slang

In preparation for U.S. tour, fans might want to learn ‘bird’ and ‘sithee.’ By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images One Direction will soon be embarking on their first-ever U.S. headlining tour . The British imports will take their mop-top, sunny pop tunes all across our great land. Before they hit the road, MTV News caught up with the fivesome in New York City, where they performed on “Saturday Night Live.” The guys revealed some key British slang terms American girls might want to learn to impress them. To get you in-the-know before your next One Direction concert, the guys broke down key phrases to use in conversation: “Trousers” are pants, per the guys, and a “jumper” is a sweater, and therefore possibly a good thing to wear with trousers. Louis Tomlinson said “fit” is a key word to describe an attractive person, explaining, “If a girl’s fit, she’s hot.” One Directioners might use “fit” to describe the “blokes” in 1D: “He’s a nice bloke,” Liam Payne said of the term for a guy. On the other end of the spectrum, Harry Styles let us in on a word for a special lady and romantic interest. “Quite slangy,” Harry explained, “but if someone was your girlfriend, you’d be like, ‘That’s my bird.’ ” And, finally, “sithee” means “see ya” or “goodbye.” That will be perhaps the hardest thing a Directioner will say to one of the guys if they should meet them during their outing this year. The tour will kick off May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia, as part of a North American tour set to wrap up July 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops along the way including Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. They are also set to take the stage at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on December 3. The guys’ debut album, Up All Night , which features their lead single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” is out now. Share your favorite British slang in the comments below! Rachel Crow To Make TV Comeback On ‘Fred: The Show’

‘X Factor’ finalist will make her Nickelodeon debut as Starr, an eccentric, big-voiced teenager. By Christina Garibaldi Rachel Crow Photo: MTV News Even though Rachel Crow was eliminated from “The X Factor” earlier than expected, most believed that it wouldn’t be the last time we would see the pint-sized teen. And they were right. In the four months since that night, the 14-year-old has landed a recording contract with Columbia Records and an overall talent deal with Nickelodeon . On Friday (April 6), Crow starts this next chapter in her career as she begins her guest starring role on the hit Nickelodeon series “Fred: The Show.” “I can’t even tell you how much fun I’m having,” Crow told MTV News on set last month. “It’s gonna be cool looking and being like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m on TV again!’ … It’s very exciting. I’m very happy with it. I’m having a great time; this is really fun. It’s not work when you come here, it is work, but it’s fun. It’s something that you want to go to. It’s really awesome.” Crow plays the role of Starr, a high school student who believes she is a talented actress and singer. Yet, to her classmates, she is seen as eccentric and somewhat awkward. “My character Starr is theatrical, she is wacky,” Crow said. “She’s very out there and very over the top.” In her debut episode, “Class Election,” which has a two-episode story arc, Starr tries to help Fred win a school election against his nemesis, Kevin, but when the election turns dirty, Starr decides to run against them both. During the episode, Crow shows off her sharp acting ability, but also reminds us what made us fall in love with her in the first place: her voice. “I do [sing], “Crow said. “I do a little bit and I just sing like wacky stuff like two words or a couple words and some wacky school anthems, it’s really fun.” Check out Crow on “Fred: The Show” on Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Video Depicts ‘Affirmation Of Strength’

Singer opens up about shooting video at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base on ‘MTV First: Katy Perry.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry takes on a whole new role in her new “Part of Me” video. In it, she plays a woman who joins the Marines following her breakup with her boyfriend. While Perry is usually pretty soft and feminine in her clips, this video shows another rougher, tougher side of the superstar — running through the mud and wearing a uniform and face paint. And that was her intention. “Well, I think that everybody can see that I love to take chances with my videos, and also have a lot of fun,” she told MTV News when she premiered the Ben Mor-directed video on “MTV First: Katy Perry” Wednesday night (March 21). If the video seems a bit hard for the singer who previously brought us candy-coated imagery and whipped-cream-spewing bras, then “mission accomplished.” “It’s an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I ever could,” she explained. “Literally, I was like, ‘I’m gonna join the service. I’m gonna join the Marines.’ We used only Marines. … For three days, I was a wannabe Marine, which was so difficult.” The video was shot over several days in February at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Oceanside, California. And for Katy it was all about fully experiencing life as a Marine in boot camp. “Those people work hard and work out. I learned how to flip someone. I learned how to flip them on their back. I learned how to wrestle underwater,” she said about her training for the video, which also includes some boot camp footage. The singer knew that authenticity would be important. “I just love it and I think people really respond to it,” she said. “People can catch the BS … and I just wanted to really go for it.” “Part of Me” is the lead single off Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, out March 26. Lana Del Rey Announces L.A. And NYC Residencies

Controversial singer to play three shows apiece at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre and New York’s Irving Plaza in June. By Kara Warner Lana Del Rey Photo: Michael Kovac/ WireImage Now that we’ve had some time to watch Lana Del Rey ‘s “Blue Jeans” video from the comfort of our computers, it’s time to prepare to see the songbird live in concert. Del Rey announced Tuesday (March 20) that over the first 10 days in June, she will be playing a series of concerts in New York and L.A. Tickets for the three New York shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. ET, and tickets for the trio of L.A. concerts go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. Del Rey will play the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles June 3-5 and will set up shop in New York from June 7-9 at Irving Plaza. The “Video Games” singer’s recent rise to fame has been fraught with soap-opera-esque plotlines. First there was the hype about her Born to Die album, then there was an equally hyped performance on “Saturday Night Live,” the fallout from which resulted in a particularly negative wave of publicity from her very vocal detractors . That led to a cooling-off period that included rumors that Del Rey’s management had to postpone a scheduled tour . Now it seems as though the singer is back on track with promoting her old-school, sultry sound, as demonstrated in the retro theme of the just-released black-and-white clip for “Blue Jeans.” Del Rey’s residency announcement reflects the very specific touring plans she teased to MTV News back in February. “I’m capping every venue at 900 [capacity], because I don’t want to perform for more [people] than that,” she said. “So what I want to do is three nights in New York, like at Irving Plaza, and then three nights at the El Rey in L.A. and then, in between, do 15 cities, and cap it at 900 venues. And everybody is onboard, so that’s what we’re going to do.” Will you check out Lana’s L.A. or New York shows? Let us know in the comments! Katy Perry Rebounds From Breakup On ‘Wide Awake’ Single

Singer set to appear on ‘MTV First’ Wednesday at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV and premiere her video for ‘Part of Me.’ By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Niki Nikolova/ Getty Images Katy Perry is showing her soft side on the latest selection from her forthcoming Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection album, which drops March 26. The mid-tempo track, “Wide Awake,” reflects on coming down from the “high” of love. Slower-paced than her first Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection single, “Part of Me,” “Wide Awake” is less about the kiss-off and more about the sadness that settles in after a love affair ends. Given that Katy recently went through a breakup with her husband, Russell Brand, the lyrics certainly seem relevant to her life. But since “Part of Me” and another Complete Confection track, “Dressin’ Up,” were recorded long before this re-release, it’s hard to tell whether the comedian is actually the intended target. Co-written by Bonnie McKee, the reflective track has Perry singing, “Thunder rumbling/ Castles crumbling/ I’m trying to hold on/ God knows that I tried/ Seeing the bright side/ I’m not blind anymore.” “I’m working with Katy and it’s great,” McKee told MTV News. “I’m really excited and I think everyone is going to really relate to and love what she’s doing next. It’s kind of a departure from what she’s been doing in the past. We are a great team when we write together because we don’t let each other settle; every single line is a philosophical debate. “She’s going through some major life changes,” McKee added. “So it’s not all about bubble gum and fun. It’s real and it’s deep and she has a lot to say. So I think people are anxious to hear it.” Perry is set to open up about The Complete Confection during “MTV First: Katy Perry” on Wednesday, March 21, at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. The singer will also premiere her highly anticipated video for “Part of Me” Wednesday, followed by a 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Rachel Crow Wants Eminem On Her Nickelodeon Show

‘X Factor’ alum tells MTV News her Nick pilot will be ‘really Rachel.’ By Christina Garibaldi Rachel Crow Photo: MTV News Rachel Crow, the pint-size cutie who won over America on “The X Factor” and made a lasting impression with her heartbreaking elimination , may have come out of the singing competition a winner after all. Just last month, Crow not only landed a recording contract with Columbia Records, but also signed an overall talent deal with Nickelodeon to star in her own musical-comedy pilot. MTV News caught up with Crow on the set of the Nick series “Fred: The Show,” where she will be a series regular as the character Starr. “My head was exploding when I couldn’t tell anyone,” Crow said about her new projects. “I kept telling people, ‘Oh, stuff will be coming out soon,’ and then it kept getting pushed back, pushed back, and I was like, ‘People are gonna think I’m lying!’ But I’m so happy I can tell everyone about it now. I’m really excited.” Crow, who finished in fifth place on “X Factor,” has not yet started filming her own series but promises it will be a true representation of her personality. “I’ve been thinking about it. We’re kind of in the first stages of deciding what it’s gonna be now,” Crow said. “But it’ll be really fun, really Rachel. We’ll see how it goes. I’m still thinking about it, something really fun and something that kids can relate to.” In addition to staying true to herself, she’s also hoping to reach an audience that may not be too familiar with her: the boys. “I want to reach the boy audience, because I know that’s really hard to do,” Crow admitted. “Boys don’t usually watch a really girly show, but I want to make sure that it’s a family-oriented, very fun, edgy, wacky show.” And to get that edgy twist she is looking for, she already has some dream guest stars in mind. “I’ve always wanted to sing with Eminem . I know, it’s really weird. I really love him,” Crow said. “I would really love for [‘Fred: The Show’ star] Lucas [Cruikshank] to be on my show, a lot of the Nickelodeon stars. I’m still super excited, I can’t even believe what’s happening.” Are you excited for Rachel Crow’s Nickelodeon show? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Rachel Crow

Jonas Brothers Promise ‘Anything Goes’ On New Album

‘We’re saying, ‘Let’s just vibe out, write a million songs and see what we’re feeling most,’ Nick Jonas tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas of Jonas Brothers Photo: El Universal It’s on! The Jonas Brothers promised they’d be hitting the studio very soon, and it seems they are men of their word. This week big bro Kevin tweeted out some footage of Joe and Nick in the studio whipping up some musical ear candy that will surely delight their fans. While there’s no certainty that the teased track will make their next studio release, the song certainly does blend the guys’ love for mixing genres, touching on soul, rock and disco. When Nick dropped by the MTV News offices recently, he said that when this next album drops, all bets are off as to what it will sound like. “We have spoken about it, and the thing we’re doing which is different to any record we’ve made in the past is we’re saying, ‘Anything goes, let’s just vibe out, listen to a million songs, write a million songs and see what we’re feeling most.’ Our statement, as a band, for this record has to be really strong. We feel like we want to deliver the best record we can.” Individually, the guys have been busy churning out albums, but there hasn’t been a proper JB album since 2009, when they dropped Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The guys are well aware that the music scene is vastly different three years later. “We pay attention to it, definitely,” Nick said. “That’s part of your job as an artist, too, is to be aware of what other people are doing. … We pay attention and have been paying attention just to see where we want to fall. But first we just want to write great songs, and as far as how it sounds, that’ll come second.” There has yet to be a release date for the album, but the Jonas Brothers have teased that it may drop before the end of the year. The hashtag #JonasBrothers2012 attached to the studio video may be the best hint so far. “We don’t know how long it’s going to take us to write this record,” Nick warned. “It may take a couple weeks, it may take months, it could take years, but we’re ready to go on that journey. It’s been a while and there has been a lot of growth as individuals and musically as well. We’ve all gone on our journeys musically. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of that.” What are you hoping to see on the Jonas Brothers’ next album? Leave your comment below!
