Demi Lovato Says Working With Eminem Would Be ‘Amazing’

She’s just one of several pop stars bridging the gap between hip-hop and rap. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato and Eminem are not two names often tied together. But the pop singer recently shared that she’d like to change that, saying she’d love to hit the studio with the legendary rapper. “Hopefully, I can work with Eminem,” the singer told E! News about her dream collaboration. “He’s my favorite rapper, so anything with him would be amazing.” Hip-hop fans might be surprised to hear about Lovato’s love for the genre, but Lovatics are more familiar with it. She made headlines last fall with her gut-busting cover of “How To Love” by Lil Wayne. When she spoke to MTV News about the deeply personal track, she fessed up about her love for the rapper and his song. “I just loved the way that Lil Wayne took a risk doing the song ‘How to Love,’ and when I really listened to it, it’s such a great song,” she said. “It has such a deep meaning to it and I wanted to perform that, and I put a little spin on it and tried to make it a little more empowering. And I think it fit with the platform and the message that I have with my fans.” Lovato’s one of many artists crossing over between pop and hip-hop . Taylor Swift was at the forefront of the trend in 2011, hitting the stage with the likes of T.I. and Nicki Minaj. And Justin Bieber said he’ll likely work with Drake and Kanye West on his 2012 release, Believe . So, it seems, this trend isn’t going anywhere. What hip-hop/rap duo would you like to see in 2012? Mac Miller Brings ‘Party’ To ‘NYE In NYC 2012’

By James Dinh Mac Miller (file) Photo: Getty Images NEW YORK — Underground-turned-chart topping MC Mac Miller was treated quite nicely by 2011, and he ended the year on a high note when he served up a performance of “Party on Fifth Ave” during MTV’s “NYE in NYC 2012” on Saturday night. To re-create the tune’s ’80s-inspired clip, Miller arrived on set with high energy and never ceased his interaction with the audience. Dressed in a vintage jacket, tuxedo shirt and backward cap, the Pittsburgh rapper bounced alongside his crew of appropriately dressed friends and dancers in front of the audience as he spit the DJ Mark the 45 King-sampling tune. “There’s a party on Fifth Ave., hit me if you try’n a go/ I can be there in like 20/ I’mma honk it and come runnin’, ’cause we gotta hit the road/ Make you sure you got a clean shirt, clean pants, new shoes/ Or just hitch a ride there, you choose,” he rapped in front of the jumping crowd. MTV News spoke with the MC backstage during the event, where he shared his thoughts on the big night. “It’s funny because, in the moment, it just feels like another day at work,” the MC told us. “This is what I do for a living. But then, in actuality, stepping back and thinking about it, performing live on MTV for the News Year’s Eve with millions of people watching is pretty crazy.” Asked why he chose to recreate the clip, Miller explained, “I just think it’s a funny video, and I wanted to do something more than just stand up there and rap or something. We wanted to do something funky, and I wanted to keep all my homeys involved — get their faces on national TV.” Mac wasn’t the only performer to rock out until 2012 as Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, J. And despite the apparently steady chemistry, fans of both the stars have voiced their thoughts on the couple’s sudden divorce , which was announced Friday morning. “It’s upsetting,” Khrystyna Luchka, 23, told MTV News during Saturday night’s “NYE in NYC 2012.” “They’re perfect for each other: They’re quirky, and they’re cute.” Another fan, Emily, confessed that it’s hard to imagine the power stars without each other, saying, “I love Katy Perry, so I was just so sad because they’re so funny together. However, some weren’t too saddened by the news, as one follower admitted: “Congratulations to them for making it for that long. Give it a year, I think, for anyone in Hollywood is kind of good.” As expected, the blogosphere was buzzing when news hit that Brand had filed for divorce from the pop darling, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Facebook user Randy Michael Ramirez confessed that the breakup may give the pop star inspiration for her forthcoming material. “At least she’ll have something to write about for her next album!” he said. Like Ramirez, Vincent E. Onyeche tied Perry’s music and personal life together, writing, ” ‘The One That Got Away.’ She knew it was coming and sang that hit.” Fan Jessica Villarreal was disappointed with the announcement, as she admitted the duo was one of few Hollywood couples she really enjoyed: “This really makes me sad,” she wrote on Facebook. While Twitter user CheeYinYang expressed her disbelief, writing, “Whaaaaaa I don’t believe it … Well at least she didn’t pull a Kim Kardashian,” another fan felt that there still might be a happy ending for this California girl: “She can find better. … She’s beautiful, bubbly and he might just regret it,” JR tweeted. The “X Factor” judge helped shape the early part of the Canadian pop star’s career when he discovered her at the top of the millennium and signed her to Arista, launching her to pop-star status. Now that Reid is at Epic, he decided it was a good time to get back together with the singer. Lavigne couldn’t be happier that Reid snatched her up. “It’s really exciting for me, because L.A. Reid signed me. He met me when I was 15, and he signed me on the spot. We did my first album together, and it was really successful and then what happens in the record industry, you know, changes are made,” she told MTV News. “We didn’t get to work together, and I was so bummed out, ’cause I never had that connection with anyone ever again, like, my whole career at the record company.” Ever since they were split up, Lavigne and Reid have hoped to reunite. “Every time we’d see each other, [we’d be like] ‘We want to work together again,’ so we’ve been waiting for this day,” she said. “Now he is the president of Epic Records, and I just was able to move over, and so he’s taking over for me and we’re working together again.” Thanks to their reunion, Lavigne is able to focus on what she does best: make music. “We’re also starting music for a new record for 2012,” she said. “So I feel, like, really re-inspired, and I feel like it happened at the right time, ’cause I was really discouraged with record-company stuff on my last album. It was not something I was looking forward to dealing with again. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Carolina Herrera Wedding Gown To Hit Stores

The Carolina Herrera-designed dress that Stewart wore when she and Robert Pattinson traded vows onscreen arrived in stores on Monday, priced at $799, according to The Wall Street Journal . In addition to the movie’s much ballyhooed sex scene , fans eagerly anticipated the wedding scene, where Bella donned the glorious long-sleeve lace bridal gown. Though the film’s version of the dress was designed by Herrera, bridal retailer Alfred Angelo handled the replication and has been working with Summit Entertainment since May to get the item in stores in time for the film’s premiere. The dresses are available at Alfred Angelo stores nationwide. During our “MTV First: Breaking Dawn” live stream earlier this month, Stewart, flanked by co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner , described the fantasy nuptials as “realistically ceremonial” and “very, very emotional.” She even kept the dress a secret from her castmates, except for Pattinson, who caught a sneak peek, much to her dismay. “Nobody saw it until I walked out, which made me so …,” Stewart said, struggling for the right word. “It wasn’t about the dress, it was just everything involved. I was like, ugh, so very the center of attention at that very moment.” Herrera’s original design was, of course, inspired by the book. “I was called by Stephenie Meyer. We had to discuss a lot, but I was very inspired by her book and the description of the wedding,” Herrera said at the film’s premiere. “I was very flattered I was asked to do it; it’s a big scene for me.” Though she made the dress for Stewart, a big-time actress in one of the highest-grossing films of the year , Herrera approached the design just as she would any other bride. “Wedding dresses are different, because you have to know that it’s the most important day in the life of a woman,” she said. “You have to please the bride first of all, and it has to be a secret. I cannot talk about the dress before the groom sees it. I treated [Kristen Stewart’s Bella] like every other bride,” she admitted. “I think [Stewart] was very moved when she tried it on. ‘X Factor’ Exclusive: Simon Cowell ‘Felt Sorry’ For Astro

However, it appears as if the British music mogul has had a change of heart about some harsh words he dished to 15-year-old contestant Astro on last week’s “X Factor” elimination episode. The finalist had offered the audience a rather bitter response to his bottom-two placement by refusing to sing for his life. MTV News’ own Jim Cantiello sat down with Cowell recently and chatted about the much-talked-about results show, which sent 42-year old songstress Stacy Francis packing and saved the teen rapper. “I gotta say, on the night, I was really annoyed, and not for anything else other than for him,” the judge said. “And then I watched it back that night, and then I felt sorry for him.” While Cowell admitted that he felt “a bit” bad that he came down so hard on the pint-size MC after the broadcast, he explained that it was necessary because “everyone at home was thinking that.” “I think if I had been light on him, I think it would have been worse for him because I think it made him aware of how he was coming across,” he continued. And as viewers saw, Simon was anything but light on the contestant during the elimination round. After Astro announced that he didn’t want to perform before the judges’ make-or-break decision, Cowell responded by saying, “Look at me, and think about your mum watching the show. Because you are showing disrespect to your mom. You are showing disrespect to the audience at home, and I don’t like people with this attitude.” Astro appeared to be in better spirits the following day when he took to Twitter , writing, “Good morning #teamASTRO I had a ‘fight the system’ moment last night. T.I. Titles Next Album Trouble Man

Photo: MTV News With his troubles seemingly behind him, T.I. is now embracing it all on his upcoming eighth solo album, titled Trouble Man. After mulling over two titles — Kill the King and Trouble — T.I. revealed to Billboard that he chose a variation of the second selection. T.I. has been visible in Atlanta clubs and various industry functions, like last month’s BET Hip Hop Awards, since he was released from prison September 29. The rapper told the magazine he has been trying to dodge negativity at every turn these days. “A lot of times, I’m taking myself out of my element,” Tip said of the creative process surrounding his 2012 album. “This is the first project where I’m talking about things that I’ve experienced before that I’m not necessarily experiencing now, ’cause I’m not doing a whole lot of partying. I do a little bit, but not a lot … nothing like when I was in that life.” Billboard was able to preview five tracks out of the 45 Tip claims to have already recorded for the next project. One such track is “Pyro,” a new single T.I. plans to drop this week. ” ‘Pyro’ is a straight party record,” he said. “It’s nostalgic of those crazy nights, early mornings [but] just turned up.” In the past few months, Tip has unveiled two singles that are believed to appear on Trouble Man : The Big K.R.I.T.-produced “I’m Flexin’ ” is a bouncy brag-fest, while “Hear Ye, Hear Ye” featuring Pharrell is an expert display of the King’s lyrical muscle. Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music Album Will Be ‘Great Music’

Music roster has proven to be formidable hip-hop hitmakers. Now put Big Sean , Kid Cudi , Pusha T and Kanye West together on one album and expectations will no doubt run high. In October, West set things up when he tweeted, “GOODMUSIC.THE ALBUM.SPRING2012,” and the date couldn’t come soon enough. While label producer Hit-Boy couldn’t confirm the sonic direction of the compilation, he assured MTV News that it’ll be quality. “It’s going to be G.O.O.D. Music-esque, which is great music,” the “N—as in Paris” producer said when he sat with MTV News last week. It’s a safe bet that ‘Ye will remain chief producer, but that doesn’t mean he won’t enlist others as he did on his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his tag-team album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne . “We actually already started a couple of ideas for that, just bouncing around stuff,” Hit-Boy confirmed. “I just sent ‘Ye like 12 beats the other day. He hit me like, ‘I need joints.’ So we’re just going in.” The California producer scored the most exciting track on WTT with “N—as in Paris,” but he revealed to MTV News that he made a few more records for the high-profile album that just didn’t make the final cut. “The crazy thing about the ‘Paris’ record is that record just came out of nowhere, pretty much,” Hit-Boy said. “I did other records that were talked about being singles and all types of stuff, so I was hyped over those records.” It seems that those records won’t go to waste either as a few, if not all, will end up on the G.O.O.D. Music album. “We made a lot of music around the time we were working on Watch the Throne so joints will end up where they’re supposed to,” he said. The former “American Idol” winner recently told MTV News she didn’t care if Coldplay “killed” her on the Billboard albums chart (her latest, Stronger, came in second, selling 163,000 to Mylo Xyloto ‘s 447,000). Clarkson might not give a second thought to chart placement, but what does she think about all these other pop divas who have taken over the airwaves? “I always think it’s healthy to have a lot of stuff out there, and there’s room for everybody, because everybody is so different, especially all the women right now in the industry,” Clarkson told MTV News. “We’re all very different from each other, which I think is good. It keeps it not boring.” We have to agree: The “Mr. Know It All” singer is anything but boring, recently telling the U.K.’s Guardian : “I want to punch Adele in the face! She is just too good.” Of course, she was kidding. “That’s a term of endearment for me,” Clarkson laughed. “I think maybe overseas that didn’t read well. I meant more to be funny. She’s just so talented; she’s just so ridiculous it’s upsetting.” Adele — who, like Clarkson, is known for her emotional songs about love and heartbreak — is set to undergo surgery to treat her vocal issues, but when she recovers, we have an idea who might want to work with her. “I’m stalking her currently through interviews. Every interview, they are like, ‘Who do you want to work with?’ ‘Adele! I want to do a duet with Adele!’ ” Clarkson said. “I’ve been stalking her since we did ‘[VH1] Divas’ together, actually, and we were supposed to sing together, and then they changed the concept to where we would sing with somebody from a different generation. That was actually really cool, because I got to sing with Melissa Etheridge , and she’s amazing. That wasn’t like a letdown or anything, but I’ve been trying to sing with [Adele] for a while.” Clarkson will be returning to the “VH1 Divas” alongside Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Florence and the Machine, Jessie J and Jennifer Hudson . “I always think competition is healthy, it’s good. Even, like, Jennifer Hudson — let’s say that people that are fans of her don’t know me very well; they’ll tune into ‘VH1 Divas’ or something and be like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know I’d like her,’ ” Clarkson said. “VH1 Divas” premieres December 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
