A Lil’ Positivity: Jennifer Lopez And The Twins Ask For Holiday Donations [Video]

The winner gets a chance to meet her old luscious cakes in person! According to The Huffington Post , she’s asking for at least $1 from her fans and proceeds will be split between three charities: Jennifer López is feeling charitable. In a new video published on her official website, the singer asks her followers to donate…and help give the biggest Christmas gift ever. “For the 12 days of Christmas I want to do something special with you guys. Let’s be part of the biggest Christmas gift ever,” López says in the video. “If each one of you guys who follow me on Twitter and Facebook can give at least one dollar, five dollars would be ideal, we can do something that has never been done before. We could collect millions of dollars.” But the best part of the two-minute home video is the adorable cameo of her children with her ex-husband, salsa singer, Mark Anthony, Emme and Max, who run into the camera and mami’s arms to scream “Marry Christmas, everybody!” and “Give, give, give!” The amount collected will be split between The American Red Cross and hurricane Sandy’s victims, Boys & Girls Club of America, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. As if the simple act of giving weren’t enough, those who donate to the cause will automatically enter into a contest where you could win a trip to Puerto Rico to attend JLo’s last concert from her “Dance Again World Tour” on December 21 and 22. The winner will also be able to meet the singer backstage. Lopez already donates 10% a year of her annual income to her own Lopez Family Foundation (which mainly helps inner-city children), but she’s catchin’ a lot of ish from haters on this one. What do you think? Good deed in the spirit of giving or another ‘celeb’ pushing their own agenda? Images via youtube/tumblr

Rhonda Lee Fired For Defending Hair on Facebook, Meteorologist’s Fans Lash Out

Louisiana meteorologist Rhonda Lee defended her short hair after being insulted on Facebook, only to be fired … and receive a groundswell of support online. A viewer took Lee, of Shreveport’s KTBS, to task October 1 for having short hair, rather than for any job-related issues. Lee, 37, responded in the comments. Instead of backing her up or deleting the offensive post, however, the network fired Lee , saying she had violated the company’s unofficial social media policy. Now, her fans are furious. Nearly 1,000 people have signed a petition asking that KTBS rehire Lee, saying she was victimized twice, once by the viewer “and again by KTBS.” “Rhonda Lee deserves to have her job back,” the petition reads. “Her eloquent response to the bigoted and sexist remarks of viewer Emmitt Vascocu were warranted.” “Employers such as KTBS-TV should stand by their employees and on-air talent whenever they are verbally attacked based on their looks, values or merit.” “I would never have dreamed in a million years that I would get all this support,” Lee told the Daily News. “It’s been a tough go at first to not be angry. But mostly I’m just sad. I genuinely loved where I worked. I loved my viewers. I made my home here.” For its part, KTBS says Lee “was not dismissed for her appearance or defending her appearance” but rather for the repeated violation of the company policy. “Unfortunately, television personalities have long been subject to harsh criticism and negative viewer comments about their appearance and performance,” the ABC affiliate said. “If harsh viewer comments are posted, there is a specific procedure to follow.” Rhonda Lee, however, says she never saw the policy in question, and that when she asked for it following her termination, higher-ups told her no. KTBS, on the other hand, says Lee received an email outlining the procedure, which states that it is “best not to respond at all” to viewer complaints. What did Lee write, and in response to what, exactly? “The black lady that does the news is a very nice lady. the onlt [sic] thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair,” wrote Emmitt Vascocu on October 1. “im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but its not something that i think looks good on tv.” Days later, when KTBS still hadn’t respond to the Facebook post on its page, Lee did. “Hello Emmitt I am the “black lady” to which you are referring. My name is Rhonda Lee. Nice to meet you,” she wrote on October 6, in the comments. “I am sorry you don’t like my ethnic hair. And no I don’t have cancer.” “I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn’t grow downward. It grows upward.” “Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don’t find it necessary.” “I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. As women we come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty.” “Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society,” the TV personality concluded. “Little girls (and boys for that matter) growing up in this world need to see that what you look like isn’t a reason to not achieve their goals.”

Fat Girls Receipt Insults Chilly D’s Restaurant Patrons

The bill given to three friends at Chilly D’s Restaurant really stung, but not because of the price, which is actually pretty affordable for dinner for three in this era. It was the description of their table at the top. “I got the bill, I looked [and] I was like, ‘Why does this receipt say ‘fat girls?'” customer Christine Duran said, recalling her Stockton, Calif., experience. The friends had dined out at Chilly D’s, part of the Cameo Casino Restaurant, on Thursday. The bill lists charges for three tri-tips with fries and three sodas, for $25.50. A bartender named Jeff had apparently typed in “Fat Girls” to keep track of their bill. When a stunned Duran asked a manager for an explanation of the receipt, he “had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh,” she said. The dining experience went from bad to worse when the restaurant demanded they still pay the bill, offering them a 25 percent discount and then a 50 percent discount. They declined both offers. In a Facebook message, Maggie Lewis, the Cameo Club Casino owner, apologized and said the treatment Duran had received is “intolerable in our establishment.” Jimmy Siemers, co-owner of Chilly D’s, didn’t work the night Duran and her friends received the offensive receipt, but has said that he is trying to clean up the mess. “I just want to tell them we’re sincerely sorry and we’ll do everything in our power to make sure this never happens to anyone again,” he said in a statement.

Couple’s Breakup Song Announces Split to Friends, Begs Them to Still Hang Out

A Brooklyn couple broke up in unique, musical fashion this week. Posted online late Wednesday, the couple’s breakup song announced the split to friends, punctuating a five-year relationship on a bittersweet, catchy note. We’ve Got To Break Up – Couple’s Song Announces Split Jonathan Mann, 30, and now-ex-girlfriend Ivory King, 31, thought the music video, entitled, “We’ve Got To Break Up”, would be the easiest way to break the news. The basic reason their once-happy coupledom broke down? “I want kids and she doesn’t,” Mann told the N.Y. Daily News . “I didn’t want to make a post on Facebook and have that be it. I didn’t want to have to explain it over and over to people, because that can be really painful.” “I hoped it would feel cathartic to make this together, as sort of our final act,” he added, however, “When it comes down to it, there’s no way to feel anything but sad.” Heartbreak aside, reaction to the song has been amazing. “We’ve been together for so long that we have so many mutual friends, and it was a big thing to sort of split that up,” Mann said. “But people are being super supportive.” “They’re happy that we made this and that it’s amicable.” Even more incredibly, it was just another addition to Mann’s “Song a Day” project; For more than 14,00 consecutive days, he’s posted a new song on his YouTube page .

Racist Sorority Photo Sparks Controversy at Penn State

A Penn State sorority is under scrutiny – and investigation – after a racist photo from a recent party created a stir online. The Mexican-themed image appears below: The picture, taken around Halloween, shows the women dressed in sombreros and mustaches. Some held signs that read “Will mow lawn for weed + beer” and “I don’t cut grass I smoke it.” Get it??! The photo was posted on Tumblr and Facebook, after which a Penn State blog ID’d the women as members of the Chi Omega sorority on campus. Reaction from the embattled university – still reeling from the Jerry Sandusky scandal – and from the sorority itself came quickly after the image went viral. Jessica Riccardi, president of the Nu Gamma chapter of Chi Omega, confirmed to the school’s Daily Collegian that the sorority is under investigation. Riccardi also issued an apology for the photo, writing, “Our chapter of Chi Omega sincerely apologizes for portraying inappropriate and untrue stereotypes.” “The picture does not support Chi Omega’s values or reflect what the organization aspires to be.” The Penn State Panhellenic Council said, “We are addressing the situation immediately with the members of the chapter in conjunction with their national headquarters.” Lisa Powers, director of public information at Penn State, also said in a statement that “This photo has been brought to our attention, and we have looked into the issue.” “The students are within their First Amendment rights [here], although we are certainly appalled that they would display this level of insensitivity and lack of judgment.” “These costumes and this group do not represent fraternity and sorority life at Penn State University, nor the 95,000 students who attend our university.” “The Chi Omega sorority sisters have expressed deep remorse over this incident.” What do you think? Much ado about nothing? Harmless fun being taken too seriously? Completely racist with no regard for basic human decency?
