Jael Strauss, America’s Next Top Model Alum, Has Stage IV Breast Cancer

I don’t want to die. These are the heartbreaking words penned by Jael Strauss on her Facebook page in a message to fans that relayed the most painful news imaginable: She has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. “I was gonna write some long thing but some of you guys deserve to know,” the 34-year old wrote last week, four days into Breast Cancer Awareness month. She then added very simply: “On October 2nd I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. It has aggressively spread throughout my body and is incurable.” Stage IV is the final and most serious stage for cancer. It is not always a death sentence, but as Strauss writes here, there is rarely any treatment options for someone that has contracted such an illness. Strauss later confirmed that the name of her illness was rapidly progressive metastatic inflammatory breast cancer. She went on to explain that undergoing chemotherapy and treatment may help extend her doctors’ original prognosis. “With treatment it may prolong my life longer than the “few months” doctors said I could make it,” she added. “I don’t want to die. I need another one of those miracles that I got back in 2013.” Strauss competed on the eighth season of America’s Next Top Model in 2007, finishing six among all contestants. Just this past August, she celebrated five years of sobriety, writing at the time on Instagram; “Today I have 5 years sober. Good God! “I know a few things to be true: Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together.” She talked years ago with Dr. Phil about how an intervention by her loved ones allowed her to overcome her addiction.  (Hence the reference above to the year 2013.) “Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder not normal,” she continued last month. “And I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family. Thank you to anyone that’s ever let me sponsor them.” To help offset some of the medical costs, Strauss’ friends have set up a GoFundMe page on her behalf, confirming that the former model has already started chemotherapy. “What we do know is that Jael is putting all of her energy and drive into fighting this insidious disease and can use as much support and love as possible,” reads the fundraising page, noting that: “Jael is in tremendous pain right now and is unable to work. In a month, she will be let go from her job and lose her health insurance.” It adds: Jael, being the selfless person that she is, has helped countless people throughout her life as an advocate for recovery and social justice. She has offered everything she has to people in need; no matter what their situation, she is always ready to help with an empathetic heart and nonjudgmental spirit. She has created “gofundmes” for literally dozens of her friends, and it is now time for us to pay her back. We have the chance, and honestly the obligation, to step up and return the favor. You can donate to her cause HERE . The campaign has since raised over $7,800 in three days. “Currently fighting stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer,” reads Jael’s Instagram bio. “Plz send miracles.” We are doing just that.

Nosey White Lady Harasses, Follows, And Calls 911 On Black Man For Babysitting 2 White Children [Video]

Another day, another prejudiced mayo packet being needlessly suspicious of a black person simply minding their business and living life. This time, it went down in Marietta, GA, and the man in “question” was just babysitting his friends’ kids. Corey Lewis caught the entire incident on his Facebook Live. The woman approached him and the kids while they were shopping together in Wal Mart, and repeatedly requested to talk to the kids and ask them if they were okay separately. When Lewis refused, the woman tracked them all the way back to his home and called police to further “investigate” the kids’ wellbeing. SMH. Take a look at the videos he posted as the action unfolded: Ridiculous. Thankfully this misunderstanding got cleared up quickly, but it makes no sense that this was something that he even had to endure. Getty/YouTube/Facebook

Cop Who Killed LaQuan McDonald Not Racist, Ex-Officer’s Black ‘Brother’ Says

See the article here:

T he white Chicago ex-police officer who killed LaQuan McDonald , a Black teen, in a hail of 16 bullets is not a racist, according to the former cop’s African-American in-law. He’s speaking out for the first time on behalf of Jason Van Dyke , who’s standing trial in a Cook County courtroom for the first-degree murder of McDonald. It appears to many observers that his statement is a sign of desperation. SEE ALSO: Cop Who Killed Laquan McDonald Crying Fake Tears As Trial Nears, Black Teen’s Family Says Keith Thompson , who is married to the sister of Van Dyke’s wife, said the family had been silent at the former officer’s request because Van Dyke was concerned about their safety, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. “We may be a biracial family, but we are a blended family, a close family. Although I’m an only child, this guy has become my brother, the only one I’ve ever had,” said 35-year-old Thompson, who also called Van Dyke his “best friend.” Still, it’s hard for many to understand some other explanation for Van Dyke’s indifference to shooting the Black teenager 16 times—continuing to fire even while he was on the ground dying. SNEED: The black brother-in-law of Jason Van Dyke weighs in with his thoughts on the Chicago cop's murder trial. https://t.co/LXB4kz6sm5 — Chicago Sun-Times (@Suntimes) September 27, 2018 Van Dyke fatally shot McDonald in 2014, and cops released the shooting video in 2015, only after a court order. The video and the circumstances surrounding its release ignited massive angry protests. Chicago Police Department officials faced allegations of covering up the shooting, with its account contradicting what dashboard camera video showed—McDonald trying to walk away from Van Dyke when the cop opened fire. “When Jay was first charged four years ago, I did not believe for one second this was a racial incident. No how. No way. I never believed this was about color. I never believed what happened was motivated by racism because Jay is not that kind of guy,” Thompson said. But Thompson’s comments didn’t seem to persuade folks who shared their thoughts on social media. Why did he need to be shot 16 times?I mean, once he's down, what's really the point. I hope this point is not glossed over. — Harold J. Mosley Jr. (@RogueSentient) September 27, 2018 No , it’s not important- Jason Van Dyke’s – I believe I heard he was “black “ brother in law or cousin in law – he properly didn’t like him either , he just had no choice of whom his relative chose to love : He’s just a pond being used now & what does this have to do with 16 shot — beverly West (@bsbwesdone) September 27, 2018 SEE ALSO: Bill Cosby Called ‘Serial Rapist’ As Walk Of Fame Star Is Vandalized, Again Botham Jean’s Family Sues The City Of Dallas [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3828001″ overlay=”true”]

I would ever be present when someone disrespects my child! I don’t accept or tolerate disrespect! I’m furious but I know there’s a God in Heaven who sits high and looks low!” Boone, an elementary school teacher, posted . “Take a look in the mirror. Hold your head HIGH and ALWAYS be proud of who you are!” And this is #TrumpsAmerica https://t.co/eafLssJP26 — Tanisha Hammond (@Teebaby77) September 30, 2018 Jasmine Brewer recalled that the group of customers was standoffish, but she provided everything they needed. “If they needed something, I got it. I didn’t realize I was the problem the whole time,” she said. For the rest of the night, Brewer was anxious about serving other tables and was conscious of her race. “It makes you look at yourself differently,” she added. Her mother also posted the note because she wanted to raise awareness that racism continues to be a problem across the nation. “We’re not able to stop racism if people think it doesn’t exist,” she stated, underscoring that education is the solution. Brewer, a mother of three children, hopes that her kids don’t have to face bigotry. “I want (racism) to be gone by the time my kids get older,” she stated. News about the racist note inspired folks to contribute unsolicited tips to Brewer totaling more than $150. Dunkin Donuts Changes It’s Name And Folks Are Blaming Millennials

Go here to read the rest:

Source: Peter Kramer / Getty Dunkin’ Donuts pulled an IHOP move on everyone earlier this week when they announced that they’ll be changing their name to just ‘Dunkin’ now.   The purpose of the name change, which will officially take place in January , is to reflect the chain’s increasing emphasis on coffee and other drinks, which make up 60 percent of its sales. According to the Associated Press, “the 68-year-old chain has toyed with the idea for a while. In 2006, it released a new motto — “America runs on Dunkin’ — that didn’t mention doughnuts. Last fall, it tested the “Dunkin’” logo on a new store in Pasadena, California; it has put the name on a few other stores since then.”   David Hoffman, the CEO Dunkin’ Brands, said in statement, “Our new branding is a clear signal that there’s something new at Dunkin’. It speaks to the breadth of our offering.” Despite what the Dunkin’ higher ups say, folks are saying millennials are the reason for the sudden rebranding.   One Twitter user complained, “Lazy Millennials finding it extremely difficult to pronounce or text extra syllables, Dunkin Donuts will now be known as Dunkin. Keeping to the trend we will now buy burgers at King eat tacos from Bell buy tires from Mr. buy carpet at Barn and mattresses at Warehouse.” Another stated, “Dunkin’ Donuts is too long a name for Millennials to say or remember. I’m surprised they didn’t shorten it to #DD” But Atlanta-based marketing consultant Laura Ries thinks the millennial haters may be on to something. She told AP that “ Dunkin’ eventually won’t mean anything to younger customers who haven’t grown up with the full name. Specific words are easier for people to remember and conjure emotional connections, she said. Having “Donuts” in the name is also easier for people in overseas markets who may not know what “Dunkin’ means.”   The gag is, many Gen X and Y’ers have vocal about their disdain for Dunkin’ coffee anyway. hi. Dunkin's coffee is trash. — Kyle Feldscher (@Kyle_Feldscher) September 25, 2018 Coffee is trash. Why would Dunkin' want to be about a trash drink instead of delicious, delicious donuts? — Benjamin Winters (@SKCBensa) September 25, 2018 Earlier this year, IHOP caught hella flak for changing it’s name to IHOB — International House Of Burgers — then changing it back. And let’s not forget that KFC had to issue a press release to put an end to an online rumor that that claims the restaurant was forced to change its name because it doesn’t serve real chicken. Word to the “food chain” wise, millenials can smell the thirst from a mile away — so don’t blame us when the rebrand doesn’t work.   Do you think Dunkin’ Donuts’ name change will have an effect of the brand overall? Twitter Reacts To Maroon 5 Performing The Super Bowl Halftime Show In Atlanta + Why It’s Not All Bad

Source: Kevin Kane / Getty When you think of Atlanta, you think of T.I., you think of a Welcome to Atlanta medley with Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris. You think of Gucci Mane, Future, Jeezy, even the Migos. But one thing that I would never think of when referring to Atlanta is Maroon 5. But the NFL doesn’t care what we think. Maroon 5, which is a great band by the way (we love Adam Whatshisname), has been tapped to headline the halftime show at the 2019 Super Bowl. As much as we love Adam though, he doesn’t make us think of Atlanta or even want to visit Atlanta. The NFL made a questionable decision. We couldn’t be the only ones who had feelings about the halftime show so we decided to check Twitter for reactions. It looks like we weren’t alone. Corallys Ortiz Told To Straighten Her ‘N*ggery-Looking’ Hair For The News Another day, another disgruntled MAGA-loving mayo packet getting all out of line and ahead of themselves. You may recall last year when Las Vegas weather reporter Demetira Obilor ‘s thick curves and natural curls had box-shaped, un-melanated watchers shook and calling to complain. Now, West Tennessee reporter Corallys Ortiz is catching some similar hater heat over her copious curls and kinks . The Afro-Latina reporter, of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, has been giving her flat iron a rest an rocking her natural hair in the Tennessee humidity for the past few days. But some of her viewers just can’t handle seeing something so offensively African on their screens when they just want to tune into the evening news and peacefully hear about their president’s latest moves. Corallys took to her Facebook page to share a video of the recorded message she received about her hairstyle, where a caller complained about her “n*ggery-looking” hair and suggested she straighten it ASAP. SMH. Thankfully, since she came forward with that racial verbal abuse by viewers she’s gotten an outpouring of support from fans. SMH.
