Source: Andrew Lichtenstein / Getty A nail salon in Brooklyn is catching major heat after a video online has gone viral. At New Red Apple Nail in East Flatbush, a Black woman is caught on camera being hit with a broom by another woman in a black shirt. The Black woman being hit eventually walks out of the salon, while employees in smocks surround two other Black women in the corner. The groups yell at each other, and one employee even throws liquid at the Black women. You can watch the video for yourself here . According to Pix 11 , the whole incident occurred because a grandmother was dissatisfied with her eyebrow work and refused to pay the salon. The recording of the incident went up on Friday on Facebook and eventually gained over 700,000 views. Protesters started gathering around the nail salon on Monday demanding the business be closed and locals take their money elsewhere. Chants of “black dollars matter” were shouted amongst gatherers. Activist Jasmine Johnson says the liquid thrown in the video was acetone, the primary ingredient in nail polish remover. “So because she did not want to pay the $5 for her messed-up eyebrows, they attacked this grandmother and her two granddaughters with sticks, threw acetone on them and then called the police on them,” Johnson said. You can peep her commentary on the event and the protest below. Police said Monday that two arrests have been made. Huiyue Zhing, an employee, faces charges of misdemeanor menacing, misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon and harassment. She allegedly was the one who beat customer Christina Thomas with a broom, resulting in a laceration to Thomas’ neck and an injury to her back. Thomas also faces charges including misdemeanor assault, misdemeanor menacing and harassment. She allegedly punched and slapped someone, dragging them over the floor. Zhing was hospitalized with injuries to her face and body, while Thomas refused medical treatment, according to the police. Since the fight, hundreds of negative reviews have hit the salon’s Yelp page. We’ll continue to keep you updated if any major updates should surface.
Image via Getty Cop Kills Grandfather Who Just Killed Naked Home Invader THIS is how trigger-happy cops are these days. A Denver Post report details how 73-year-old grandad Richard “Gary” Black was minding his muthaf***in’ business when a naked man kicked in his door and attack his 11-year-old grandson. The intruder began choking the boy while simultaneously attempting to drown him in the bathtub. Black grabbed his 9mm pistol and shot the man dead. If that wasn’t already crazy enough for you, follow us to the crazy part. Upon responding to the scene, an unidentified Aurora Colorado police officer shot Black dead after mistaking him for the intruder who Black had just killed. Yeah. Aurora Police Chief Nicholas Metz released the following statement on Facebook: Pop-pop Black’s family should sue the badges off this police department. Seriously. R.I.P. SMFH.
Back in April, Tristan Thompson was caught cheating on Khloe Kardashian while she was nine months pregnant with his child. It’s the sort of thing that would serve as a dealbreaker for about 99 percent of the people on the planet, but remarkably, Khloe has decided to stick it out and make things work with Tristan. According to People magazine, Khloe and Tristan recently began couple’s therapy. One insider says the troubled twosome have been “working hard” to repair their relationship — but it seems they’re meeting with mixed results. “One thousand percent they are working through couple’s therapy,” Kris Jenner’s longtime friend Lisa Stanley revealed in a recent interview . “You can’t just earn trust back in two months.” Stanley says Khloe’s first priority is keeping her family intact. But she’s also considering her public image. “[Khloe] doesn’t want to look a fool. She was a fool once with Lamar, and she didn’t want to do it again,” Stanley said. She went on to say that Khloe has had no trouble justifying her decision to give Tristan a second chance. “Khloe was always going to try to make this work, for a plethora of reasons,” she told the interviewer. “The first reason is she has a child now, and she feels very connected to [Tristan] in that way. The second reason is she loves him. She clearly loves the man.” It sounds like Stanley is in support of the relationship — but Khloe’s mom and sisters reportedly don’t feel the same. Sources close to the family say the Kardashians issued Khloe an ultimatum after Tristan was caught cheating: Basically, they went full-intervention and told Khloe that if she continues to date Tristan, they’ll cut off all contact with her. These days, however, it looks as though they’ve backed down from that position. Khloe and Tristan are living in LA during the NBA offseason, and sources say they’ve been spending a lot of time with her family. Last month, Kim even forced Tristan to re-follow her on Instagram in a humorous video that was then posted online. Kim Kardashian Makes Tristan Thompson Unblock Her on Instagram: WATCH! So it sounds like these two might actually pull off the impossible and make their relationship work. It’s almost enough to make you forget how bad Tristan’s cheating was in the first place. “Tristan has been consistently cheating on Khloe,” a source said to People at the time. “He’s a serial cheater. And there will be more women to come out of the woodwork.” Yes, Thompson didn’t just slip up once — he was caught messing around on Khloe in multiple cities with several different women. We’re not here to judge, and obviously, no one really knows what goes on in their relationship aside from them. We just hope Khloe considers that every time she contemplates getting married to Tristan . View Slideshow: Khloe Kardashian: Why She SHOULD Leave Tristan Thompson, But Never Will
Fans have roasted Derick Dillard for everything from begging for money from fans to his vitriolic attacks on trans teen Jazz Jennings , the latter of which got him fired. Now, Derick is trying to make himself respectable — even in the secular world. Folks, Derick is headed to law school . Do you want this dude as your attorney? Are you one of the cyber sleuths who noticed that Derick has been following a series of new Twitter accounts lately? If not, you’re probably better off. He’s been following Twitter accounts related to the LSAT and the Bar Exam. Which, normally, a person only does if they want to become a lawyer. A Facebook page (we would not characterize it as a fan site) called Duggar Family News made the announcement . “Derick wi ll be attending The School of Law at the University of Arkansas this fall,” the post reveals. Their page has been a pretty reliable source of info on the Duggars. Coupled with Derick’s Twitter activities, it’s pretty convincing. “Derick is giving up missioning,” the page continues. “Whatever he did at Cross Church, and God, to attend a secular law school.” Obviously, the bit about giving up his faith is hyperbolic. “The cost of law school is $16,000 a year,” the page continues. “Which I assume either Jim Bob is paying for …” “Or,” the post hypothesizes. “He’s got some conservative evangelical group paying his way in hopes that if Derick actually becomes a lawyer he will be forced to work for their causes.” The post suggests that those causes might include “overturning all equal rights laws that greatly benefit deserving human beings. ” That does sound kind of harsh but, given Derick Dillard’s track record, it sounds like something that he would be interested in doing. The page openly asks: “Can Derick make it through the rigors of law school?” “The idiot,” the post continues. “Couldn’t learn Spanish after one-on-one tutoring and living in a Spanish speaking country!” Attaining true, convincing fluency takes a lot of work. But a lot of people were disappointed by Derick’s lack of progress. “He can’t follow simple rules when it comes to posting copyright images or running a fundraiser page,” the post observes. To be entirely fair, a lot of celebrities seem confused about that. Perhaps attending law school will make him more mindful. “Derick,” the post continues. “Lives in a bubble of false news and facts which will be put to the test when secular law professors get their hands on him.” Sadly, real life law school professors are rarely as exciting as they are on How To Get Away With Murder . “My bet,” the post writes. “Is that he lasts almost a year and then suddenly gets another calling from God.” “Next year,” the page predicts. “He’ll be working as a clerk at Walmart.” Duggar Family News might be a great page for leaked info, but we don’t know that we share their vision for the future. Law school may be secular, but there are a number of religious angles for a practising attorney. One, of course, is that some larger churches and religious organizations need lawyers. They can help with everything from major lawsuits to making simple arrangements. Another, as the Facebook page suggests, is that Derick might — perhaps of his own volition — work hard to combat any progress made for equal rights for certain groups. Remember, Derick Dillard says to not make cakes for gay couples . He also claims that accepting transgender children for who they are is “child abuse.” There is another possibility. Depending upon how you feel about Derick, this could be worse. For some, attending law school and even becoming a lawyer is just a means to an end — that end being a serious political career. A sizeable number of Facebook users are Black, but many of its employees are not Black. In fact, a staggeringly low number of the social media giant’s workers are Black and Latinx women, according to the company’s latest diversity report released July 12. There are only six Black women who are senior managers and executives. Less than one percent of those 769 positions belong to Black women, who fare worse than their Latinx counterparts at 1.3 percent. The data is alarming, to say the least. “We are definitely concerned,” Maxine Williams , Facebook’s chief diversity officer who is Black, told USA TODAY . Facebook Diversity Chief: 'We Still Have More Work To Do' https://t.co/AMQxINH078 pic.twitter.com/wC2DrBEc3T — KQED (@KQED) July 12, 2018 Facebook is 3.5 percent Black, compared to just 2 percent in 2014, in the U.S. White people are, unsurprisingly, still the single largest population of employees at 46.4 percent, as opposed to 57 percent in 2014. Also, Black employees only make up one percent of employees in technical roles. African-American employees only grew from 2 to 4 percent in the last five years, according to the report. The company is moving slowly toward progress — especially as technology companies have been challenged to reverse decades of discouraging and discriminatory hiring practices. But what’s the good news here? Black employees increased their presence from 2 to 8 percent in business and sales. In addition, there were higher gains for Latinx employees, who went going from 6 to 8 percent in those areas. There is still more work to do at Facebook, which is a big piece of the Silicon Valley pie. Perhaps the work will finally get done if Facebook forms major partnerships with Google — also struggling with diversity, though faring better than Facebook — as well as if it works with Black politicians and activists. Source: Brian Stablyk / Getty A Texas mother recently proved that she would do anything to protect her kids, even shoot someone if needed. According to FOX 4 News , on Wednesday Michelle Booker-Hicks went to get gas at a Dallas station when she saw a man get into her car with her 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons. She ran back to her car, hopped in and grabbed her gun out of the glove department as the driver sped down the street. Booker-Hicks then shot the carjacker right under his eye. “I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me,” she told FOX 4. “I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment.” After being shot, the carjacker crashed the car into a fence. Thankfully, Booker-Hicks and her children weren’t hurt. The man, later identified as Ricky Wright, was arrested and taken to the hospital. Booker-Hicks stressed that all she cared about in that moment was her children. “I’m not a killer or anything, but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” she said. “I hope that woke him up.” An attorney not involved with her case told FOX 4 he doesn’t think the mother will face any charges for her actions. When children are involved, obviously the authorities are going to be very understanding of that,” Toby Shook said. “The law says that if a reasonable person in her situation would have acted the same way, found it immediately necessary to protect herself or a third party, in this case her children, then that’s legitimate self-defense.” However, Booker-Hicks doesn’t have a license to carry, but the state of Texas has laws that allow those to carry guns inside their car even without a license. We have tragic news to pass along. Three popular Canadian YouTubers – Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper – all died on Tuesday in a tragic accident that took place at Shannon Falls in British Columbia. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Squamish RCMP wrote the following about this awful incident: “On July 3rd, 2018, at 11:55 am Squamish RCMP received a call from BC Ambulance regarding three people who were swimming in one of the pools at the top of Shannon Falls.” Continued the police in this statement: “The individuals were with a group of friends when they slipped and fell into a pool 30 metres below.” All three corpses have since been recovered and the case is being referred to the British Columbia Coroners Service. (Shannon Falls, it should be noted, is the third highest waterfall in British Columbia. it reaches a a height of 1,009 feet.) According to The Vancouver Sun, the fatal accident occurred after Scraper slipped and fell off the waterfall. Gamble (pictured below) and Lyakh reportedly then got swept away by the water while attempting to save her. The British Columbia Coroners Service has told People Magazine that it cannot confirm or release the identities of the victims, but that they are “in their late 20s – one female and two males.” In a YouTube video shared on July 6, members of the group High on Life – which posts travel videos online – published a tearful memorial for the three deceased vloggers. This is what was said on it: On July 3rd, 2018, we lost three very dear friends of ours: Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper. There are truly no words that can be said to ease the pain and the devastation we are all going through right now. They were three of the warmest, kindest, most driven and outgoing people that you could ever meet and the world has lost a good deal of light with their passing. From what we can gather via Facebook, High on Life was started in 2012 after Gamble, Lyakh and another friend named Parker Heuser gave up the lease on their apartment and chose to start traveling the world together. As you can see from the photo above, and has been confirmed by various outlets, Scraper was dating Lyakh at the time of their deaths. Shortly before his passing, Gamble wrote a long message on Instagram about finding his “purpose” in life. “When life is on purpose and I feel clear with my direction, all my other decisions seem to get easier,” he wrote, adding that “it took me 29 years to understand this” and continuing as follows: “So if you have a strong masculine core, and find yourself drained of energy, attention, and power, check in with this notion of your ‘purpose’ and see what comes up. “Make purpose the focus above everything else in your life and watch how the rest will fall into place.” Elsewhere, a GoFundMe page/account has been created by High on Life to help pay for a memorial “to commemorate the beautiful lives and legacies that these 3 friends left behind.” Any additional funds raised will go towards travel arrangements and expenses for the families of the deceased. Our thoughts go out to all affected by these deaths. May Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper rest in peace.
