Stars Show Up For Tanduay Rum Launch In Brooklyn The Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center kicked off their partnership with Tanduay Rum as the Brookyln Nets honored the late Notorious B.I.G. with “Biggie Night.” Bad Boy Records legends Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans and Diddy — who accompanied Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace — sat courtside as they paid tribute to the Brooklyn-native on the 20th anniversary of his passing. The Barclays Center honored him with a permanent banner in the rafters with his most famous lyric reading “Spread Love, It’s the Brooklyn Way” with the number 72, the year he was born. The sold-out crowd roared with excitement as they spun a medley of his hits with a tribute video during halftime. To tip-off the partnership, Tanduay hosted a post-game party in Barclays Center’s 40/40 Club & Restaurant on Sunday, March 12. Former Judge Becomes Alabama’s First Female District Attorney 49-year-old Lynneice Washington has become the first black and female district attorney in Alabama reports AL . A longtime Democrat, Washington successfully beat Republican Bill Veitch by a narrow margin. “I am honored,” Washington said. “It has been a humbling experience.” But when she began her campaign more than a year ago she had not even thought of the potential significance if she were elected, Washington said. “I had no clue of the history I was making,” she said. Washington said she stands on the shoulders of others who helped lift her up – those in her faith-based community, her family, and campaign team. “And I promise to make them and my community proud,” she said in an interview Monday with AL.com. In case you've spent the past 24 hours in your bunker, reading up on Canadian citizenship requirements, Donald Trump won the Electoral College vote yesterday, thus ensuring that he'll be our groper-in-chief come January 20. Historically, the EC vote has been something of a formality, but given the surprising and potentially apocalyptic results of this year's election, there was hope that the electors would take steps stop Trump . That may sound rather undemocratic – and feel free to take to the comments and call us a bunch of globalist, PC, snowflake cucks for suggesting it might not be – but it wouldn't be hard for anti-Trump electors to justify the move. The so-called Hamilton Electors movement called the nation's attention to first treasury secretary and prominent Broadway musical inspiration's argument that it's the duty of electors to prevent demagogues who are beholden to foreign powers from assuming office. So there was hope that this antiquated institution would pull off a last-minute stonewalling, right? Eh, not really. Only one GOP elector came forward to say that he would not be voting for Trump ahead of yesterday's vote. In total just five broke ranks, casting votes for politicians as diverse as Colin Powell and a Native American tribal leader Faith Spotted Eagle. So yeah, a rough day for those holding out hope for one last gasp from the #NeverTrump movement. But a pretty solid day for those who enjoy seeing middle-aged women in non-matching purple sweatsuits positively lose their sh-t. Welp…that’s y’all’s president … Electoral College Upholds Trump Win For all those who were holding tightly to the thin glimmer of hope that members of the electoral college were going to abandon their state’s vote …we have bad news. Chester Cheeto is officially our commander-in-chief, though not for lack of effort on some of the college members. According to New York Times , a handful broke ranks from what their states decided: Presidential electors — and particularly Republican electors, who are bound by tradition and often state law to support Mr. Trump — were inundated with phone calls, emails and even threats demanding that they vote for someone else. Leaders of groups that were lobbying the electors had privately believed they had a chance to persuade enough Republican electors to defect, denying him an Electoral College majority and throwing the election to the House of Representatives. But by late Monday, only a handful of electors had broken ranks. While Mr. Trump’s opponents needed 37 Republican defectors to bring his electoral-vote tally below 270, the bulk of electors who broke ranks — four in Washington State — were Democrats who otherwise would have voted for Ms. Clinton. Instead, they voted for the former Republican secretary of state Colin L. Powell and Faith Spotted Eagle, a Native American tribal leader who has led opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline. Elsewhere, Democratic electors who sought to vote for someone besides Mrs. Clinton switched back to her under pressure or were replaced with Clinton supporters. In Texas, two Republican electors cast protest votes, one each for Ron Paul and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio. One other Republican opposed to Mr. Trump resigned and was replaced. A strategy memo by the anti-Trump forces has estimated that as many as 34 Republican electors were prepared to vote for someone besides Mr. Trump, but also said many were afraid of the consequences and suggested that a poor turnout of other anti-Trump electors would weaken their resolve. SMH! So had the additional few just manned up, we could have been rescued from an orange-tinted characature who can’t spell running the free world. It’s not as if anyone is shocked, though…
Just a day after celebrating her anniversary with husband Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson is now facing some very bad news: Her father has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The diagnosis actually took place about two months ago, with insiders confirming to People Magazine that Joe subsequently had prostate surgery. Doctors have said that the operation went very well – and Simpson is already back at work and eating a healthier diet. “He’s feeling great now and is optimistic,” a source close to Simpson informs People. “He’s felt so much love and support from his family and friends.” Just how great is Simpson feeling these days? Making his living as a photographer, he is currently flying to Japan to shoot the cover of Nation-Alist magazine and to work on several other campaigns. But while People paints a rather positive portrait of Joe’s physical and mental well-being, a far less reliable source is using this as an opportunity to be far more dramatic. According to In Touch Weekly, Simpson’s cancer is Stage 4 and it has spread to his lymph nodes. “The grim news devastated the entire Simpson family at first,” an anonymous source tells that tabloid. “Jessica and sister Ashlee especially took it hard. “They cried for days about his dire future, and the very real possibility of him dying. But, after initial shock wore off, they rallied behind him.” This same report says no “percentages” have been placed on Joe’s survival. But that he is trying to remain optimistic. “Joe has remained incredibly optimistic about his battle – carrying on with regular chemotherapy treatments and hormone therapy,” the source alleges. “[His family hopes] for a miraculous recovery for Papa Joe, and they are praying with all their hearts.” Joe is a former pastor who is using his faith to maintain a positive outlook And a rep for Simpson shoots down In Touch Weekly’s dire claims. “This is a blessing in disguise for Joe,” a source close to Simpson tells Entertainment Tonight, adding: “It has opened his eyes to eating healthier and exercising. This diagnosis has brought Joe and his family together and reminded him that what matters most is family.” This same source also says Joe is back to working as a photographer. Along with his successful photography business, Simpson had also launched his own fashion label, Control Sector. “I love the opportunity to create and do new things,” he told ET last year. “You know, the photography thing is fun. The fashion thing is fun. I still do TV and I still do music, so you know, I’m crazy all the time … I have plenty to do.
