Michael Jackson Estate Threatens Legal Action Over Tribute Concert

‘Michael Forever’ concert rescinds invitation for Kiss to perform following complaints from estate and fans. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson in the video for “Hold My Hand” Photo: Sony Music Entertainment Several weeks after announcing their intention to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson with an all-star concert called “Michael Jackson Forever,” the initial lineup for the October 8 show at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, was revealed last week. According to promoters, the Michael Forever show is slated to feature such stars as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Motown legend Smokey Robinson, in addition to less globally popular talents, including Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Leona Lewis, JLS, Craig David, Alien Ant Farm and a pair of Jackson-related groups, 3T and the Jackson Brothers. The one thing the event does not have, however, is the approval of Jackson’s powerful estate, which had kept silent about the show put together by parents Joseph and Katherine Jackson, along with siblings Jackie, Tito, Marlon, LaToya and Rebbie. Brothers Jermaine and Randy have not been involved in the plans and have publicly objected to the event because it falls in the middle of the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray. On Tuesday (August 16) a spokesperson for the estate — which has handled all of Jackson’s affairs since his 2009 death — confirmed that estate lawyer Howard Weitzman sent a letter to concert organizers last week raising some pointed questions about the show. “I represent the Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson. As the legal caretakers of Michael’s intellectual property, we believe it is our duty to contact you directly regarding the growing number of questions that have been addressed to the Estate, as well as multiple concerns that have emerged in recent days,” reads the letter. After reminding organizers that the estate is the only entity that can sign off on the use of Jackson’s image or his intellectual property — the concert’s website is careful not to feature any images of the singer or samples of his music — the letter said the estate was “especially disappointed” by the announcement on Monday that greasepaint rockers Kiss have been added to the bill. Specifically, the beef was that outspoken Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has made a number of disparaging comments about Jackson in the past. “It was extraordinarily embarrassing when no sooner had you announced this ‘news’ that [Simmons] would participate in your concert that TMZ posted an item noting that Mr. Simmons called Michael Jackson … a child molester, notwithstanding the fact that Michael was acquitted by a jury,” read the letter. Jackson fansite MJ4Justice was flooded with negative comments about the addition of Kiss, announced on Monday by Katherine Jackson on CNN, and has called for a boycott of the show. The concert’s Facebook page has also been inundated with concerns over the booking of Kiss. And the complaints worked. On Tuesday, the concert’s promoter, Global Live Events, canceled Kiss’ “invitation” to appear in the show. “We have listened to Michael’s fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons,” CEO Chris Hunt said in a statement. “Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert. We offer our sincerest apologies to Mrs. Jackson and the family for this oversight — our primary concern must be to do justice to Michael’s memory, and to put on a tribute that the family and the fans will find suitable and fit for a King, our

My first Bieber experience was in 2010 when Justin RT’d one of…

My first Bieber experience was in 2010 when Justin RT’d one of my tweets . I had just bought his album, only out of curiosity to see what he sounded like, and I instantly fell in love with him. It wasn’t until i google’d a bit about him that I  realized  he was that kid singing “With You” in his bedroom. Anyway, I had been tweeting him ALL day and got no response. Then all of my timeline started to blow up with tweets to Justin. Being the un-experienced fan I had no idea that they only did this when he was online or “creepin”. I had already given up and just joined in on tweeting my favourite songs from his album.  I t wasn’t until later when my emails blew up that I realised that he   had RT’s me! I was SO happy, I was jumping around and stuff. I had only just became a fan and this is what he did to me!  My second Bieber experience was the biggest one. It happened 4 th  March 2011. People had constantly told me to give up on my dream and that I was never going to meet Justin. One of them especially was a girl who was “supposedly” my  best friend . She was a HUGE Bieber fan too. She’s always been the girl who got everything she wanted. She got her bedroom covered in posters, she had every single thing to do with Justin bieber, but me? I couldn’t afford that and every day she would remind me. Everyday I’d call up my local radio station and request Baby and got to be good friends with the radio presenter, she said that if Justin was ever in the studio she would get me in to meet him .  I was having a bad year, my parents spilt and I became a part-time guardian to my 2 year old brother. My auntie suggested that me and my cousin should get tickets as our Christmas presents. We ended up with floor seats, 3 rows from the front. The girl who always told me I’d never see him live/meet him had bought the £300 V.I.P   package and bragged about it like everyday of her life! She had seats 2 rows behind me. When I told her what seats I had, she told me that I got the tickets because people felt sorry for me. But karma is a bitch! It turned out that there would only be a V.I.P sound check for the London concerts so everything she bragged about didn’t happen and people thought she was lying. Me being the nice person I am decided to stick up for her and tell them the story so she wouldn’t look stupid.  The day the tickets arrived I had a leaflet with them about joining  bieberfever.com  I joined using my birthday money (it cost £30 because of international fees) and became a member. I saw that you could win a chance to meet Justin. I made a video and entered. They told me i would know if i won 24hours before the concert. I had no reply and gave up hope.  11:56pm on the night before the concert I received an email, “  CONGRATULATIONS JUSTIN BIEBER FAN ”. The next day when I met him, I felt on top of the world. I had just met my idol and all I could say was that “he’s real”. I ran up to him and hugged him. He hugged back and was like, “Awhh” When we took the picture, we realized it was just him me and my cousin. We were supposed to be in groups of 4 so we didn’t understand. It turned out my auntie had a Justin Bieber hoody on because she was cold and they though she was a fan. When we took the picture and stuff he said thank-you and I handed him a letter to give to his mom. I said, “Please will you give this to your mum” and he looked really surprised and said, “What? My mom, my momma?” We both smiled pointing to Kenny. I replied. “Okay but it’s really important” he looked confused, “Don’t worry its nothing bad” he smiled and said “Ok bye girls” then we left.  After meeting him I had a phone call and it was from the radio station asking me to go down and do an interview about it. I was also on local radio news. Everything that went on that year, God finally gave me hope. I later found out that the things that girl was saying to me are a type of bullying. We are no longer friends and she is stuck with one person at school. I’m glad I could finally see who she really was. It was thanks to Justin Bieber and his team that she can no longer put me down.   T hanks for reading. Love Jodie -@ItsJodieCrouch Click here to listen to my interview with the radio station. My name is Melisa , and these are a couple more of  my Bieber…

My name is  Melisa , and these are a couple more of  my Bieber Experiences! I was on the Today show with Justin Bieber and got to ask him a question on TV.   Click here to read that MBE.  Anyways it had been a while since Justin Bieber had come to NYC , so when I heard he was going to be at Macys and you only had to pay $135, I decided to go. My friends and I camped out and Justin tweeted this picture of us  http://twitpic.com/5ex5gj .  The next day I headed out to the city and decided to stop by, The View. After waiting a couple minutes, Justin shows up in the car. I’m right near the car and he waved. Later that day I got ready for the meet and greet. My friends and I were the last ones on the meet and greet line.   When my friend Merlixse went up, the camera got messed up and she got extra time with Justin. I told my friend, “You’re so lucky “, Justin heard it and told my friend, “I think your friends’ are a little jealous”. When it was my turn to go up I went straight to Justin and gave him a hug , he then said something, I couldn’t make out the words but I did hear “beautiful”.  I was stunned. Then we were kind off holding on to each others hand and it was one of those moments where you  walk letting go slowly.   Then another time I met Justin, was when he was with Selena!  I’m the girl in the white denim jacket on Justin’s right side . It was on July 30th 2011 .  I was in the city and my friend who had met Justin and Selena the day before had told me to go and give it a shot. I saw a car there and it had Justin’s shoes , they were Supras so I knew it was his. My 2 friends and I were the only 3 people on the other side of the hotel. 5 minutes after, I hear random people screaming, “OMG it’s Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez”. At first I thought they were mocking us, until I turned around and bumped right into Kenny. He was like, “Hey back up” and I was like “Omg, no I didn’t know, sorry”. Justin chuckled. I went up to Selena because I wanted him to see I wasn’t going to be rude to her and said, “Selena you’re so pretty and lucky”, very politely she said, “Thank you sweetie”. Justin comes up to me and asks me, “Do you want a picture” and I said yes. Justin and I are posing for our picture and my friend Emma is in another world so I’m like, “Emma take my picture”. She was literally stunned. Justin and I are still there posing for the picture awkwardly laughing.  Then after like 20 seconds Kenny says, “Guys let’s do a group picture”. I got next to Justin, my friend Emma gets on the other side of him and my friend Alia gets next to me. We felt bad for Selena so my friend Alia says, “Selena, get in the picture”. Selena was so happy that us being beliebers, we respected her and tried to include her. Anyways they had to go but before Selena left, I said, “Selena, my boy best friend loves you” ad she said, “Tell him thank you for the support”. My friends and I were happy dancing there, then all the other people from the other side run to their car. They were nice enough to stop and sign and take car pictures with people. I’m still dancing and I saw Justin was looking at me so I say, “You’re so F-ing hot , get in my bed” he smirked and looked away. I honestly don’t know why I said that, I was just so excited. To everyone who hasn’t  met Justin your time will come . Trust me, waiting for it makes it so much more amazing.  @woahitsxmely  Here is the original post: My name is Melisa , and these are a couple more of  my Bieber…

My name is Lexie Wilson and I’m from Bentonville,…

My name is Lexie Wilson and I’m from Bentonville, Arkansas! I’m just a normal girl but I’ve met the absolute love of my life; Justin Drew Bieber.  About a year ago, it was just another normal summer day. I was straightening my hair getting ready to go out and was listening to the radio when they said,  “Be caller number 7 RIGHT now to win Justin Bieber tickets!”  My heart immediately started beating really fast. I was a fan in 2008 when he was just posting videos on YouTube and had a feeling he’d be famous one day. I picked up my phone and dialed the number. I was on hold for what seemed like a YEAR. Then, someone picked up the phone, “ Hot Mix 101.9 who’s this?”  I froze.  “Lexie..”  next thing I know, they are telling me stuff I couldn’t believe.  “Well, Lexie. You are caller 7! Congratulations! You just won tickets to Justin Biebers concert in Little Rock! Now we have some questions for you!”  I couldn’t even think straight! How was I supposed to answer questions??  “This is a little game we like to call, Bieber song-Videogame-or Movie.  I had to get 5 of 7 questions right in order to fully claim the tickets. They were the dumbest questions ever but I was laying on my floor, hyperventilating, shaking, and on the phone with these radio DJ’s. I got EVERY SINGLE QUESTION right. I know my Bieb! After I got those right, they broke the news to me.  “You are now in a drawing for the grand prize.. Backstage passes to MEET Justin Bieber!”  Psh, there was no way I could win. I thought nothing less of it and gave them my personal info for security reasons. 10 minutes later, I heard my recording on the radio. I sounded like someone was killing me. I had no idea I freaked out that much. I was stuck in the moment. About a week went by and I get a phone call from the radiostation.  “Hi, Lexie. I’m afraid that since you won Jonas Brothers tickets a year ago, you are maxed out on winning tickets. We will have to take back the tickets.” My heart sank.  “JUST KIDDING!”  Needless to say, I wanted to kill them!  I ACTUALLY WON THE BACKSTAGE PASSES!  They gave me Justin’s manager, Scooter’s cellphone number and said to call him when I got the the venue. I couldn’t sleep the night before the concert. I stayed up until 7:30am, listening to my Bieber cd’s and drooling over my posters. Somehow, I managed to get about an hour of sleep. I decorated the car, got packed up, and we were on our way. 4 hours to Little Rock. My mom, my sister, my grandma and I. I call Scooter and he tells us to meet him at the purple tent. I go up there and he is waiting for me. There were TONS of people. But we got through the crowd and he personally escorted us inside. I originally won 2 tickets and 2 backstage passes. Well, he did what he does best and pulled some strings. He gave me 4 backstage passes, meet & greets, soundcheck passes, and VIP dinner passes. We toured the venue and bought some memorabilia. Glowsticks, shirts, lanyards, etc. Then came time for the soundcheck.  SCOOTER ACTUALLY GOT US FRONT ROW.  I was dying. 2 feet away from THE Justin Bieber. Since he was on vocal rest, we played charades. Ryan and Chaz were there too so they made the day a little more fun. Justin broke the rules a couple times and sang a little. From the soundcheck, we went into a room where they did some drawings. Then we went to the VIP dinner. There we met Jessica Jarrell, Sean Kingston, LEGACI, IYaz, and some of his team members Ryan and Dan. Then they pulled us aside and said it was time to go backstage to see Justin. There was a little black area with curtains surrounding it. Ryan and Chaz were skateboarding around us. I was like WTF.. I LOVE them. I had this horrible feeling that I was gonna pee my pants, trip, puke, or do something utterly stupid in front of the man I’m madly in love with. I walked in there and there was the gorgeous Justin Bieber. I worked up the nerve to kiss him on the cheek! We posed for a picture and I almost fainted when he put his arm around me. *SMILE*  After the picture, we hug and then I walk out. My life had just been made. I automatically started crying when I walked out. I looked like a freak, but who cares. We go back to the dinner and finish eating. Then they give us a ‘special’ picture book that JB signed. We head to our seats and the countdown begins. Over an hour till the concert and there was a huge screen that let us know. Grr. As soon as it hit 00:00:00 everyone started screaming and the lights went dark. We got home around 2 in the morning and I went through all my pictures and videos. If I had to relive that day I would change SO many things. Like when I got home, I realized on the back of my shirt, I put  “I wanna be One Less  LONEY  Girl!”  Whoops, I hope he didn’t notice! I did something not very many people have had the chance to do. Considering how fresh Justin is. To all the people who just spent 15 minutes reading this wanting to meet Justin. Dream. And follow those dreams. Never say never and believe that anything can happen! – Lexie Wilson @lexi_taylorr   Read more from the original source: My name is Lexie Wilson and I’m from Bentonville,…

Eminem Is Not To Be Messed With, Game Says

‘He’ll end your career,’ Game says of Em on ‘RapFix Live,’ following the release of his dis track ‘Uncle Otis.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Game Photo: MTV News The Game made headlines last month when he dropped “Uncle Otis,” a lyrical call-out session on which the Cali rapper poked fun at everyone from Jay-Z to Big Sean to Kreayshawn and 50 Cent . When it comes to hip-hop disses, Game isn’t gun-shy, but there is one MC he would never throw shots at. “One thing that stuck with me is that Eminem is not to be f—ed with ever in hip-hop, ever,” he told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” Though the pair once collaborated on “We Ain’t,” a track off of Game’s 2005 debut The Documentary, the Compton rapper’s famous feud with Eminem cohort 50 Cent has affected his and Slim Shady’s relationship. Though Game and Marshall no longer speak, Game holds a great amount of respect for the Detroit wordsmith. “If you notice out of everybody I take a shot at, that’s the only person that’s untouched. He’s in a bubble and you don’t even say nothing to Eminem. To anybody that ever does, God bless you,” Game said. “He’ll end your career.” Game, who is signed to Dr. Dre ‘s Aftermath records, got his start in 50’s G-Unit group, appearing on their mixtapes and collaborating with Fif himself. In 2005, a rift grew between the Game and 50 , and subsequent shots were fired as the two rappers’ camps butted heads outside of New York City’s Hot 97 radio station. The two tried to patch things up during a press conference in New York City a few months later, but the truce didn’t last. Game even told MTV News that Michael Jackson once tried to bring the two warring rappers together, but things didn’t pan out. The feud between Game and 50 affected both of their relationships with Dr. Dre, who has overseen both careers, and affected Game’s relationship with Eminem. “It just had to happen, man, and I was put into a situation where I had to defend myself lyrically and I did,” Game said of the many dis records he threw G-Unit’s way. “It wasn’t personal to anybody; I told that to Dre, I’ve told that to Paul Rosenberg, who manages Em, and the only the person I hadn’t spoke to about it was Em and 50.” “Sometimes stuff happens and I wish it had longevity,” he said of the Dre/50/Eminem relationship. “But it didn’t, so no regrets on my behalf.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Game, Diddy And Machine Gun Kelly Related Artists The Game Eminem Dr. Dre

Diddy Wants Machine Gun Kelly To Stay ‘True To Himself’

‘This kid, I think he’s a star,’ Diddy tells Sway on MTV News’ ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Diddy and Machine Gun Kelly Photo: MTV News Diddy ‘s ear for talent is unquestionable. After playing an instrumental role in the careers of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige , the Bad Boy founder went on to discover the Notorious B.I.G. , Mase, 112 and Faith Evans. His newest signee may not fit the Bad Boy mold, but Diddy is excited nonetheless — so excited that he Skyped into “RapFix Live” while on vacation in Spain to chat it up with Sway about his newest artist, Machine Gun Kelly . “Yes, I signed MGK,” Diddy confirmed. “This kid, I think he’s a star. He’s one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen to come out in a minute.” Influenced by DMX , Cleveland, Ohio’s Machine Gun Kelly began battle-rapping around 2004 while he was still in high school. His passion grew from the corner ciphers to the studio, where he would lay tracks for his 2006 mixtape, Stamp of Approval. Back then, the MC (who got the Machine Gun part of his moniker because of his rapid-fire raps) was just getting his feet wet. In 2010, MGK would drop two tapes, 100 Words and Runnin’ and his breakthrough Lace Up. From there, the energetic spitter would develop his following thanks to his spirited live performance. The hip-hop mogul marveled at the existing fanbase Kelly had before even signing the deal. “He has just such a movement, just hundreds and thousands of loyal fans that came from the place he came from in different parts of the country,” Diddy gushed. “He wasn’t always the coolest kid in school, and just the process of growing up and the problems that they all encounter, they relate to him in such a way.” On the surface, MGK may not fit what many would perceive as the Bad Boy mold. He is a white, skinny, tatted-up kid from Cleveland who is influenced by punk music just as much as he is influenced by rap. For Combs, it’s a non-issue. “One of the things as an executive and someone that runs a record company is that I change so much as far as my respect for artists whether they succeed or fail. I think it’s important to empower the artist,” he said. “He will not be changing for Bad Boy; he will not have a typical Bad Boy swag. He’s not going to be popping champagne or driving around in Bentleys. He’s gonna be him and true to himself. He has a lot of creative control in his project.” Kelly, who recently graduated from sleeping on a futon to a mattress in his manager’s mother’s house, agrees. He assured his fans that he won’t be changing his lifestyle very much. “We’re kind of all about that ‘I don’t like to look better than my fans,’ so maybe one day I’ll change, but I pray to God I just stay the same,” he said. “We had a bidding war before he came in, but Puff is Puff,” MGK said. “Honestly, I really want to treasure this almost-famous stage as much as we can, while we still can. It’s crazy, because Ohio is one thing; we have this great hometown love. We’ll do 4,000 in one show, but then we just did Texas and it was probably 60 to 100 people, still doin’ holes in the wall, and it’s so cool.” He won’t be doing those venues much longer. MGK confirmed that he signed a two-album deal with Bad Boy and will be dropping his debut album, also called Lace Up, in the first quarter of 2012. “No push-backs with us, baby,” he bragged. “Not happening. The fans are not allowing that to go down.” Have you checked out Machine Gun Kelly’s music? Share your thoughts in the comments! I will NEVER forget August 27th, 2010. The day that plain old…

I will NEVER forget August 27th, 2010. The day that plain old me, Cassie, from little Rhode Island met Justin Bieber. It was my best friend’s birthday and Justin had a concert at the Dunkin Donuts Center about 15 minutes away from us. My friend got a VIP Soundcheck Party ticket for her birthday but I didn’t have a ticket in general, and as usual, like the day of any concert at the DDC , we walked around Providence trying to meet someone- anyone. The day before we had met Justin’s camera crew, Jon M. Chu, and some of his dancers at a hotel. But the day of the concert we hung out near all of the tour buses coming in for the show. We followed one of the venues runner cars down to the gate and JUSTIN BIEBER ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND WAVED TO US. We were in shock so we stood there and waved like idiots, then when the car drove away we started screaming of course! When the afternoon rolled around, my friend had to go in for the VIP thing, and my friend Zack Tremblay and I were hanging out together near the tour buses. Jayden Smith, the camera crew, and Scooter Braun came out to say hi to everyone waiting around. Jayden was getting everyone excited for the show and then Scooter asked if everyone was going. I was the only one that said no, and I asked him if there was anyway he could get me in. He said nope sorry and walked away. I was so bummed. Then all of a sudden Zack goes “OMG CASSIE JUSTIN IS COMING OVER HERE!” And there he was! Justin and Jayden were walking over to us followed by the cameras with Scooter! Justin came over and shook hands with everyone and said hello, and I was a little sad that I only got to see him for a second… but then Scooter tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to me. Justin effing Bieber walked up to me and said, “I hear you’re not going to the show tonight, why?” and I was like “Yeah…I never saved enough money for a good ticket” and he goes “Oh that sucks, it’s gonna be awesome.” And I was like “I bet!” And then he goes ”Well, I have a couple of extra tickets right here…” AND REACHED IN HIS POCKETS AND HANDED ME TWO FRONT ROW, DEAD CENTER TICKETS FOR ME AND MY LITTLE SISTER . He also gave one to my friend, Nicole! I didn’t even know what to do, I started shaking and held my arms out for a hug, and in the middle of our hug, I just kissed him on the cheek!  I JUST KISSED HIM, RIGHT THERE ON THE CHEEK IN FRONT OF LIKE 50 PEOPLE, INCLUDIND CAMERAS. He smiled, and I thanked him and Scooter a billion times and then he went back inside. I didn’t even know what to do I just started crying of happiness. Scooter also teased me saying “I saw that!” and I was like, “What, me kissing him?” and he said “No, he kissed YOU BACK!” I though I was going to faint at that point! I thanked Scooter again and again and all of his crew, I was so out of control hahaha. I called my parents crying, my friend who was inside, and everyone else I could. The concert was by far the best night of my life and the biggest miracle I ever could have asked for. Seeing the scene played on commercials, in the movie, on perezhilton.com, etc. was just mind-blowing. Once again, thank you Scooter Braun, Jus tin, and the rest of his team. You all are amazing. NEVER SAY NEVER! -Cassie Click here to see Cassie in one of the movie trailers!  Read more from the original source: I will NEVER forget August 27th, 2010. The day that plain old…

Lady Gaga Calls Terry Richardson Book ‘Completely Unfiltered’

‘I didn’t hold anything back,’ Gaga tells MTV News about upcoming photo book. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: MTV News Late last month, Lady Gaga announced she was teaming with photographer/provocateur Terry Richardson to release a hefty coffee-table book, one that features more than 350 photos of the singer taken by Richardson over the course of 10 months. The two have worked together — with appropriately pulse-quickening results — several times in the past, most notably a September 2010 cover shoot for Vogue Hommes Japan that served as a sneak peek of the now-infamous meat dress she wore to the 2010 VMAs, and a clothing-optional campaign for Supreme in February 2011. But if you thought those shots were shocking, well, get ready for the duo’s book, which, as Gaga told MTV News on Monday night in New York, will push things even further. “Terry was with me for [almost] a whole year, and, gosh, I didn’t hold anything back from Terry … he was with me every minute, every moment,” she said. “It’s completely unfiltered. He has photographs of me waking up in the morning, brushing my teeth, in the bathroom, in the bathtub, the shower. And the thing about Terry, if you know anything about his photography, is that nothing is staged; I mean, that’s sort of what he is renowned for. He can get you to do things and he can capture things that no one can ever capture. “What I love so much about Terry is that he thinks everything is so beautiful. I’m always, ‘Oh Terry, get out of here,’ and he’s like, ‘Oh, it’s so beautiful, let me just shoot it,’ ” she continued. “I felt so comfortable with Terry. I love him so much. He’s a really close friend, and I feel really honored that he traveled [with me].” Gaga said the self-titled book (which hits stores November 22) not only showcases her whirlwind life — it follows her from the main stage of Lollapalooza to her Maine rally to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” to the final shows of her Monster Ball Tour in Mexico City — but the lives of her ultra-dedicated fans too. That was as much a goal as the unfettered access was. And, from the sound of things, the book manages to accomplish both. “My favorite thing, honestly, is that [Richardson] loved the fans. He shot the fans the same way he shot me: with no pretense. No ‘Well, she’s put out records and they haven’t.’ None of that. The music was all of ours,” she said. “He would come backstage and he would say, ‘Oh my God, the fans! ‘ And I’d say, ‘I know … I know what you just photographed.’ And he’d say, ‘Baby, wow! ‘ And then he’d film me, like, peeing in a cup and, like, ridiculous things.” Related Photos A Day In The Life Of Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Evanescence’s ‘What You Want’ Video: Go Behind The Scenes Now!

MTV News visited the Brooklyn set of the clip, which Amy Lee says shows ‘the real us.’ By James Montgomery Evanescence on the set of their “What You Want” music video Photo: MTV News BROOKLYN, New York — Last Saturday, on a makeshift stage inside a cavernous (and slightly decrepit) Brooklyn warehouse, Evanescence took another step down the comeback trail: shooting the video for “What You Want,” the first single off their upcoming self-titled album. Teaming with director Meiert Avis — who’s made iconic clips for the likes of U2, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan (to name just a few) — the band and an army of their die-hard fans braved the sweltering temperatures and worked long into the night. They filmed a video that, like much of the forthcoming Evanescence album , is biographical, following them from their early days to their rise to fame and their recently concluded hiatus. … And beyond, as frontwoman Amy Lee explained. “This video is sort of, like, the history of the band,” she told MTV News. “This club [set] is emulating old shows we used to play in the beginning — we used to play this club called Vino’s in Little Rock [Arkansas] — it’s sort of like back then, the gritty, dirty club, sweaty. And basically, it’s also [about] New York, where I’ve been, [and] where [bassist] Tim [McCord] lived in the past few years since we’ve been gone. And it’s sort of about escaping New York and … coming back out into the world.” Like the song, the “Want” clip is a bit of a departure for Evanescence , eschewing the dark fantasy worlds they’ve created in previous videos in favor of good old-fashioned realism: the blood, sweat and tears that not only took them to the top, but have fueled their current comeback, too. Which is why, no matter how hot it got, or how many takes Avis shot, the band kept answering the bell, thrashing and wailing onstage, with Lee throwing herself into the outstretched hands of their fans, some of whom had waited nearly 10 hours just to be included in the video. It seems that, for pretty much everyone involved, “What You Want” was more than just another music video. It was a labor of love. “This is more a personal video. We’ve done a lot in the past that [were] very ‘fantasy,’ and this is sort of the real us,” Lee said. “I just wanted to do something that really felt personal for a change. Obviously, I’m wearing crazy makeup, and that’s not my everyday, but, you know, I want … to connect with the fans again. We all do. We miss them. A lot of this record is about them, and that’s why they’re going to be here and be in it, too.” Related Videos Evanescence’s ‘What You Want’ Video Behind-The-Scenes Evanescence: First Listen Related Artists Evanescence
