Full-Frontal Flick Shame Gets an NC-17 Rating, Absolutely No One Is Surprised

Our Skin Skout has already reported that Shame , starring Michael Fassbender as a Manhattanite sex addict, is absolutely bursting at the seams with nudity. Carey Mulligan makes her full-frontal debut as Fassbender’s estranged sister, and up-and-comers Mari-Ange Ramirez, Charisse Bellante , Nicole Beharie and Amy Hargreaves all bare boobs as his one-night stands. So when the prudes over at the MPAA slapped an NC-17 rating on this bad boy, it surprised…well, no one, actually. The MPAA is notorious for its double standards for violence (Graphic torture? R) and nudity (Cunnilingus? NC-17), and director Steve McQueen sold the distribution rights to his film with the stipulation that the winner could not cut a single frame, no matter what the rating. So distributor Fox Searchlight is still going full speed ahead with Shame ‘s December 2, 2011 release date, despite restrictions on the marketing of NC-17 films. Could Shame be heralding a revival of racy, adults-only dramas (think Last Tango in Paris ) skinfiltrating a theater near you? Skin Central says the PG-13’s reign of non-nude terror has gone on long enough- long live the NC-17! Give yourself a Mulligan with Carey Mulligan nude right here at MrSkin.com!

Don’t Be A-Freud of The Dark: Watch the Trailer for A Dangerous Method

It’s not often that I’m intrigued, bothered, titillated, confused, and exhilarated after watching a trailer, but A Dangerous Method does the trick. In the new preview for the dazzling Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender Freud drama, we watch as Knightley begs to be beaten (not sexy), Fassbender reinvents Talented Mr. Ripley sailboat glamor (sexy), and Freud (Viggo Mortensen) drops in for some insight (id-tickling sexy)!

‘X-Men: First Class’ Stars Say Their Heroes ‘Feel Like Real People’

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender tell MTV News that the mutants’ struggle is a ‘universal theme.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy Photo: MTV News In a summer-movie season filled with caped crusaders, hammer-wielders and other assorted superheroes, a casual filmgoer might have trouble separating the mutants from future Avengers and all the complicated mythologies and story lines that follow. When MTV News sat down with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy recently to talk all things “X-Men: First Class,” we asked them to explain what separates their characters — Erik Lehnsherr/ Magneto and Charles Xavier/ Professor X, respectively — from the rest of the summer’s superpowered pack. “Well, it’s not in 3-D, that’s a start,” Fassbender said. “It’s not in 3-D, thank the heavens,” McAvoy agreed. “I think the X-Men, the X-people, mutants, they use their powers for good, just like a superhero does, but they don’t feel like superheroes. They feel like real people more — maybe that’s the thing that sets it apart.” “I think the philosophy of it as well,” Fassbender added. “The idea of alienation and misfits in society and how they struggle to be accepted and to find a place for them in society, I think that’s a universal theme and why people across the world find them intriguing.” Regarding Fassbender’s portrayal of the infamous mutant and future supervillain, we asked if the James Bond-ian aspects of his performance were intentional or based on the swingin’ ’60s-era setting of the film. “I just saw it as an opportunity to do a really elaborate James Bond audition,” he joked, which sent McAvoy into a mini-fit of giggles. “I just really exploited that fact really, and one always has to worry about the next job, that’s the problem,” he said with a smile. “In all seriousness,” he continued, “[director] Matthew [Vaughn] did say to me that the fact that it was set in the ’60s, and this character, Erik, he had envisioned him as a James Bond from the past, perhaps the Sean Connery-type mold,” Fassbender revealed. “I was like, ‘That’s interesting,’ but it didn’t really affect my portrayal. I just concentrated on what was in the comic books. The biography available in the comic books was so dense that I was spoiled for choice to go away and create this Machiavellian character.” Check out everything we’ve got on “X-Men: First Class.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘X-Men: First Class’ Star Michael Fassbender Leads Us Through Trailer

Actor talks about two Magneto helmets, being a student and pulling from Ian McKellen’s performance and X-Men comics. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Fassbender in “X-Men: First Class” Photo: 20th Century Fox Early in the evening on Thursday, the first trailer for “X-Men: First Class” popped up online — the general consensus on the footage being: dope! — and only hours later, we found ourselves chatting with star Michael Fassbender, who was in town to promote “Jane Eyre.” Charming, self-deprecating chap that he is, the 33-year-old actor agreed to walk MTV News through the trailer, pointing out his favorite bits and the scenes that make him cringe and offering some newsy insight into the way his character fits into the narrative. Fassbender plays Erik Lehnsherr, the magnetically enhanced mutant who eventually becomes the villain Magneto. But when we first meet Erik in “First Class,” he’s a close confidant to Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), who is gathering a collection of mutant-students and teaching them how to maximize their potential. As Fassbender noted, Erik is not Xavier’s fellow teacher, but his student. “I’m not a teacher; I’m a pupil,” he said. “Charlie boy is the teacher. That’s the cool thing. He sees the potential in this new race and gathers us all together to really fulfill our ultimate powers, to really unleash these gifts.” In the trailer, Erik can be seen rocking two different helmets. You won’t see a third enter the picture, Fassbender told us, though he stopped short of explaining exactly how and why the mutant switches up his headgear — “There are two versions. There’s that silver one and that red one,” he said coyly. But based on his nervous laughter on the topic, we have a feeling the helmet switch speaks to an important plot development, perhaps the point at which Erik formalizes his change from Charles’ friend to his nemesis. Magento, of course, was famously brought to the big screen in three previous “X-Men” films by Ian McKellen. Fassbender, however, took his creative cue not from the Oscar-nominated actor, but the character’s comics-based mythology as a Holocaust survivor who eventually relocates to Israel after the war. “I always had little remnants of [McKellen] somewhere in here,” Fassbender said, pointing to his head, “but I used the comics as the source material.” Check out everything we’ve got on “X-Men: First Class.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘Prometheus’ Has ‘Definite Connection’ To ‘Alien,’ Michael Fassbender Says

‘It’s definitely in keeping with the old ones,’ movie’s star says about confusion over the Ridley Scott film. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Fassbender Photo: MTV News Ever since a Deadline New York report last month, there has been a lot of confusion about Ridley Scott’s newest “Alien” film , which marks the director’s return to the franchise more than 30 years after he brought the first “Alien” movie to the big screen. After word of the project first broke in the summer of 2009, the new report suggested the film was in fact not an “Alien” prequel but rather a film born of “Alien DNA” that is “unique, large and provocative.” Yet at the same time, contrary to this new spin, we were hearing that the film — titled “Prometheus” — was in fact a prequel to the franchise. Now, this all might be a matter of semantics (not to mention movie marketing), but there’s no doubt that confusion has surrounded the exact nature of the production. So when we had the chance to speak with one of the stars of the new film, Michael Fassbender, while he was promoting “Jane Eyre,” we asked him to shed some light on these conflicting judgments. And as he told us, “Prometheus” is most definitely an “Alien” movie. “Absolutely,” he said. “There’s a definite connecting vein. You realize you’re part of something else. But it’s definitely in keeping with the old ones.” What’s more, Fassbender said the new film is more closely related to the slow-burning “Alien,” which Scott directed, than James Cameron’s more action-oriented follow-up, “Aliens.” “It is more sort of the original one,” Fassbender explained. “There’s things happening and building, and the intelligence of the first two-thirds of the film gets you ready for the action … it’s creeping, it’s sinister, things are happening and building, all the different intrigues and politics going on between the different relationships onboard.” That’s not to say Damon Lindelof, who worked on the script with Scott, was blowing smoke when he said things to Deadline like, “In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley’s vision was for this movie.” Fassbender told us that while “Prometheus” fits squarely within “Alien” mythology, the film delivers “a whole new revelation.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Kevin Bacon Cast as X-Men: First Class Baddie?

If it weren’t for X-Men: First Class casting news , would there be anything to write about? Kevin Bacon is reportedly in talks to star in Matthew Vaughn’s rapidly filling up X-Men prequel as the main villain. Because in the prequel Magneto (Matthew Fassbender) isn’t all bad and, as a result, someone needs to bite the dust before the credits roll. Or something. If a deal is worked out, it would mean the comic adaptation would have its first major American performer on board and — even better — give a whole new generation of actors the chance to star in Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Michael Fassbender Head of the Class?

It looks like Michael Fassbender’s supervillain Sophie’s Choice might be easier than expected . While he’s still presumably on the shortlist to play the villain in Sony’s Spider-Man reboot, the German actor has been officially offered the role of Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class over at Twentieth Century Fox. If he accepts, Fassbender — next seen slicing throats in Centurion — would star alongside the previously announced James McAvoy, who plays Professor X in the film scheduled for release next summer. Marvel fatigue or not, that does sound pretty OK, right? [ Deadline ]
