Aussie twins tell MTV News they haven’t strayed from dance music roots in spite of ‘amazing’ Femme Fatale Tour experience. By Akshay Bhansali Nervo Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images With Britney Spears ‘ flashy Femme Fatale Tour closing out its remaining North American dates later this month, it’s fair to say that many of Ms. Spears’ concert-going fans have gotten to know Olivia and Miriam Nervo pretty well. In fact, when Brit first announced her Femme Fatale lineup back in April, promising on her website, “Nervo will get everyone on the dancefloor,” dance music fans were ecstatic about the inclusion of the DJ/producer twins whose writing credits include a song for Spears and David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over.” MTV News recently caught up with the Australian sisters (and former models), and they told us that bussing across the States and sharing the stage with Nicki Minaj, Jessie and the Toy Boys, and Brit herself, has been a stellar opportunity. “We’ve definitely seen both the girls, [Britney and Nicki], and we interact with them,” Miriam, a.k.a. Mim, told us. “You are traveling to each city and you see the same people every day and it really becomes a family. So it’s been an amazing experience.” “It’s an amazing show,” Liv added. “The girls, the lineup really works well together. You’ve got Britney, who I think is looking the best she’s looked in a really long time and who really gives it her all on this tour. And then you’ve got Nicki, who definitely brings her edge to it. I’d never seen Nicki live, and I’m just so blown away. The girl can sing, rap — total respect to her!” As the Femme Fatale Tour winds down Stateside before heading to Europe, Nervo are now looking to expand the fanbase they’ve built in the U.S. But while Liv and Mim have been a part of what might be considered the mother of all pop music tours, the duo insist that they intend to remain true to their dance music and DJ roots. “When we signed the record deal, it was really important to us that we could take our DJing seriously and release club records,” Liv explained of their Astralwerks label. “Yeah, we want to be DJ artists,” Mim added. “That’s what we love so, luckily, we can release some club records alongside our Astralwerks album,” Liv said. “It just so happens that the Astralwerks single that we’re coming out with is with two major club guys: Afrojack and Steve Aoki . It’s called ‘We’re All No One.’ We love it!” While Liv and Mim do the singing on “No One,” the beats are delivered by hard-hitting EDM producer Aoki and David Guetta prot

The Femme Fatale launched her tour in Sacramento, California, and is getting raves from music critics. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images On Thursday night, Britney Spears declared herself a Femme Fatale, launching her tour in Sacramento, California. Having already garnered praise from critics who attended her dress rehearsal , Spears got more rave reviews from music journalists who attended the kick-off show. In addition to the glitzy costumes and high production value, Spears flaunted her stage chops, sashaying to songs like “Hold It Against Me” and “Big Fat Bass,” as well as old-school jams like “Toxic” and “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know.” Describing it as “her flashiest, fastest moving, and most entertaining production yet,” Rollingstone.com said that while tour-opener Nicki Minaj brought her signature sass, “The night belonged to Britney: She managed to prove that she’s still progressing as a showgirl. Not only that, she’s doing it better than even die-hard defenders would’ve predicted.” The Sacramento Bee explained that while “Spears performed like a pro throughout the show, hitting all her marks, she had shown hesitancy in her movements — natural for the first stop on a tour. But that hesitancy vanished when she put on the denim. She seemed at ease.” The best review of all may have come from Spears herself, who enthusiastically took to Twitter to thank her fans: “Can’t sleep. WAY too much Adrenaline right now. Sacramento was on fire tonight. You ready San Jose? Cause I am!!!!” Once she wraps her San Jos
Singer confirms the rumors about her Femme Fatale lineup on her website Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images After weeks of speculation, Nicki Minaj has at last been confirmed as the replacement for Enrique Iglesias on Britney Spears’ upcoming Femme Fatale tour . The ladies will also be joined by Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo on the all-female lineup. “This is the Femme Fatale tour, and I’m thrilled to have the hot Nicki Minaj join me and Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo will get everyone on the dance floor,” Spears said on her website . “Can’t wait to take the Femme Fatales on the road.” Minaj will join Spears after she wraps up touring with Lil Wayne on his I Am Still Music tour, which finishes up May 1 in New Jersey. Last week, Minaj told to MTV News that she was in talks to join the tour, after rumors began swirling that the sassy Queens MC would be hitting the road with the veteran pop superstar. The tour kicks off on June 16 in Sacramento and will run for 26 dates through North America, winding up on August 13 in Toronto. Select tickets go on sale on April 30. Spears manager Larry Rudolph, told MTV News that Britney’s tour will have the post-apocalyptic vibe that’s been present in her recent live sets and the video for “Till the World Ends.” “The way we come up with a concept for a show like this is we sit with Britney, she talks to us about what she’s interested in and what excites her,” Rudolph explained. “We start with the songs on the album; we start with coming up with general, broad concepts. She tells us what interests her and excites her, and from there, we have [the input of music tour director] Jamie King and [choreographer] Brian Friedman.” What do you think of the Nicki/Britney match-up? The famous design team talk about dressing the pop star for her Femme Fatale photos and appearances. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: C. Flanigan/ WireImage It seems like a natural fit for sex kitten Britney Spears to don sexy couture by Dolce & Gabbana. So when the Femme Fatale singer needed to make sure she was at her sexiest in promotional photos for the album, she called upon the legendary design duo. “We love Britney and we love to dance to her new songs!” Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the design team behind D&G, told U.K.’s Telegraph about the pop star. “We can’t wait to hear the whole album!” In photos, Spears looks hot sporting three designs by the duo. In one photo, she rocks a polka-dot body suit with platform peep-toe heels. In another shot, Spears sits on a bathroom cabinet, gazing into a mirror, while looking glamorous in a buttery gown made of a silk bustier and matching chiffon skirt. She pairs the look with tie-up platforms. In final image, Spears wears black spandex hot pants with an untied black silk bustier. “She has always been among our favorite artists because she has been able to remain true to herself and to her style throughout the years,” the designers added. “With her music she influenced and inspired generations of people for more than 10 years, always staying at the top, and we can’t but congratulate her for this new, important achievement.” Spears has been hitting the stage in similar body-hugging designs. From her glowing bodysuit to her sequined one, both of which she wore at her recent Las Vegas nightclub gig, Spears has certainly been stepping up her glamour game during the Femme Fatale era. D&G recently hooked up with another pop siren for her wardrobe: The pair is creating styles for Kylie Minogue to wear on her Les Folies tour. The designers expressed a similar sentiment about working with the Aussie pop star on her looks. “Working with Kylie has always been very spontaneous and easy,” the pair said in a statement. “We are given free rein to create because she trusts that we know exactly what she likes.” Spears latest album, Femme Fatale , dropped this week, and don’t miss the special, which airs this Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Britney insiders Claude Kelly and Sabi talk about working on the pop star’s brand-new record. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Photo: Jive Britney Spears teamed up with Dr. Luke and Max Martin to make an edgy, dark club album, and the result is Femme Fatale, which features genre-busting pop songs about love, sex and the big, fat bass . But in addition to that pop dream team, Spears also hooked up with a wide array of collaborators (Travis Barker, will.i.am, Sabi), songwriters (Claude Kelly, Bonnie McKee, Ester Dean) and producers (Bloodshy, Benny Blanco, Rodney Jerkins), who helped create the sonically bombastic pop record that dropped on Tuesday (March 29). MTV News caught up with songwriter Kelly and newbie pop singer Sabi, and got the inside scoop on the making of Femme Fatale. “Here’s what people don’t realize and here’s what I’ve noticed: She’s very, very much in control of what she records, how she sounds, how she portrays herself on the record,” Kelly, who wrote “Gasoline,” said of Britney’s process. “There’s no grand master puppeteering — that’s kind of a myth. She knows what she’s going to cut. She’s not going to sing anything she doesn’t want to and she has this amazing ability when she gets behind the mic. It’s like eye of the tiger.” Kelly went on to say that when Spears hits the studio to record an album, she knows what fans want to hear from her. “Her rhythm is spot-on. You tell her, ‘This part needs to be sexy,’ and she’s like, ‘I got it already,’ ” he explained. “It’s that rare ability that only really true artists have to get into character and to sell a theme and that’s what she’s good at. … I think because she’s been out for so long, people forget the evolution of her career. When you’re in the studio with her, you quickly get reminded about how versatile she is and how clever she is. She’s a show-woman.” Although Sabi, who appears on the track “(Drop Dead) Beautiful,” didn’t hit the studio with Brit, she felt the star’s presence when she was dropping her verse. “She recorded it already and then I went in. … I rapped on it and I’m a singer. I rap when I feel the mood is right, so it all worked out. When I’m inspired to rap, I rap, but I’m a singer,” she explained. “Me and [producer] Benny Blanco, we were just sitting there throwing ideas back and forth.” Two other collabos made the album’s final cut, but Sabi’s the only other femme fatale on the record. “To be the only female on Britney’s album, just in general, this whole thing is just bananas. I feel very lucky to be this person in this position right now,” she said. “It is crazy. She does not do features that often and I think maybe it hasn’t sunken in yet. It’s a wonderful opportunity and maybe when it starts circulating, it’ll sink in what’s really going on. But right now, I don’t know where I’m at but it feels good. When this song hits radio, it’s going to be surreal.” What do you think of Femme Fatale ? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos Britney Spears Drops Her Femme Fatale Album!
