President Obama Tells Ghadafi The Jig Is Up, Time To Go!

The leaders of the free world have made their support for the people of Libya clear. Now, President Obama has made it official. Obama for the first time called for Khadafy to step down as the UN Security Council hit the embattled strongman with stiff sanctions. “When a leader’s only means of staying in power is to use mass violence against his own people, he has lost the legitimacy to rule and needs to do what is right for his country by leaving now,” Obama told German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to a summary of the conversation provided by the White House. Obama’s blunt message marked a departure for the White House, which had earlier insisted it was up to the Libyan people to decide who should lead their country. Hours after Obama’s pronouncement, the council ordered an arms embargo, assets freeze and travel ban against the Libyan government, Khadafy, his close family and associates. It also ordered a crimes against humanity investigation into the bloodshed. Khadafy, earlier in the day, signaled he had no intention of giving up power as he handed out guns to his supporters and urged teams of young men to hunt down dissidents. Terrified anti-government protestors braced themselves for more bloody battles as gunfire continued to ring out across the capital. Condemnation mounted from world leaders the day after Obama authorized U.S. sanctions against Libya, with Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi saying it appeared Khadafy was no longer in control. The dictator’s son, Seif al-Islam, dismissed suggestions the country was slipping from his father’s hands, saying three-quarters of the country remains under government rule and was “living in peace.” He added that if anti-government demonstrations by “terrorists” do not end, Libya risks descending into civil war “like Somalia.” News filtering out of Libya painted an entirely different picture as new details emerged of the violent methods used to quash the protesters in recent days. The New York Times reported loyal Khadafy forces shot at people from within ambulances and used anti-aircraft guns against crowds. Witnesses said the dead and injured were being rounded up and taken from hospitals to cover up the alleged human rights abuses. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said more than 1,000 people have died in the unrest in Libya, but it has been impossible to establish an exact death toll. Do you think this means U.S. troops will be heading to Libya in the immediate future? That’s what it’s sounding like to us… Source

The Bossip 5: Killer Mike Breaks Down 5 Ways In Which Hip-Hop Has Made Black History

BOSSIP recently caught up with Mike Bigga (aka Killer Mike) , and while talking about his new album PL3DGE ( in stores April 19 ), we got into an interesting conversation about Black History and the Hip-Hop generation. Asked what the significance of Black History is today, here’s what Mike had to offer: Black History is important because Black people in America have no culture. Prior to Desegregation, we had culture. We had our own communities, we had our own businesses, we had our own system within which we took care of ourselves. With the dissemination of segregation, we gave up our culture in exchange for being fully integrated. Black communities are not policed by Black officers. The Black people who live in these communities don’t shop at Black stores because there are none, hence the Black dollar leaving the community and never coming back. And without that strong economic base, you don’t have a strong foundation for families, politics, commerce or culture, period. What Black people have lost is a sense of culture. A lot of people think having a Black president is enough. But we still have a [Congressional] Black Caucus, meaning we don’t have enough Black members of Senate or Congress for us not to need a caucus. We don’t have enough representation in local politics. Most of us are happy to have a Black President as a hood ornament, but most of the decisions he makes don’t affect you on a daily basis. So we still have a long way to go. But then, what is Hip-Hop’s roll in Black History? Flip through to check out five Black History facts every Hip-Hop head should know, courtesy of Mike Bigga.

Pure Comedy Or Irony?: Bank Robber Takes Hostage, Slips And Falls On Ice, Then Is Shot & Killed By Cops [Video]

Police shot and killed a suspected bank robber trying to escape with a female hostage Friday after he stumbled in a pile of snow from this week’s storm and the woman slipped away. When the man walked out of the Capital One bank branch in a Washington suburb, he was holding a gun to the bank teller’s head and was using her as a shield. The suspect also had a fake bomb taped to his body, police said. Officers were already outside the bank as the suspect walked out, and the confrontation unfolded on television with a helicopter camera hovering overhead. Video shows him backing away from police with the woman when the suspect tripped over a pile of snow from Wednesday’s storm. The woman ran away from the suspect toward police and held her hands up to cover her ears. Gunfire erupted shortly afterward. Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci said the suspect was killed. “From our point of view, it looks like it was a successful resolution,” said Prince George’s County police Maj. Andy Ellis, adding that three of his officers fired at the suspect. “Things were changing very quickly, and the officers had to make split-second decisions.” Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger said the robbery was unusual because the suspect appeared to have a bomb, as well as a hostage, and because officers reached the scene so quickly that the situation was still unfolding. Police from at least three jurisdictions responded to the scene because Takoma Park is near the border of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. The city also has its own police force. Besides the device that looked like a bomb strapped to the suspect, a suspicious device also was reported inside the bank. Both ended up being plastic foam when checked by a bomb squad, police said. But the potential for an explosion affected the response by police officers, Ellis said. At least three people were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. A police officer was grazed in the leg by a bullet. One person was pistol-whipped — the woman whom the suspect later used as a shield — and another person was treated for shock, police said. Bill Benjamin, who witnessed the incident from a nearby store, told FOX 5 that he had walked outside to take out the trash. He said he heard three quick shots fired and saw police chase down the suspect. Herschel Ivy, who saw the incident from across the street, told FOX 5 that he saw the suspect’s hands go up when shots were fired. Ivy said he heard seven or eight gunshots fired as the hostage ran toward police. “She ran directly through the cordon of police officers,” Ivy said. “You couldn’t tell if they were firing from the left or from the right.”
