Kelly is still inside of a jail cell this morning as his lawyer, Steve Greenberg says the 51-year-old singer does not have the money to immediately post his $100,000 bail . According to Newsweek , Greenberg told reporters on Saturday that he is confident Kelly will be able to produce the money eventually. The singer also owes $162,000 in back child support to ex-wife,  Andrea Kelly . Greenberg also said that Kelly’s defense team is pleased with the bail amount, given the severity of the counts against his client. Kelly is being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. “Right now he’s presumed innocent,” he said according to CNN. “We haven’t seen any reason to believe that these allegations are credible. Mr. Kelly is strong, he’s got a lot of support and he’s going to be vindicated on all these charges—one by one if it has to be.” Kelly has long denied the allegations against him. Cardi B Makes History With Her Best Rap Album Win At The 2019 Grammys

Link:

Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Rap’s Cinderella  Cardi  B beat out a tough Best Rap Album crowd to take home the gramophone on Sunday night and in the process, she made a little bit of history too. With her win, Cardi B is the first solo female rapper to ever take home the crown of Best Rap Album. The only other woman to have claimed to the award is  Lauryn Hill who won as a member of  The Fugees with  The Score in 1997. The union of Hill and Cardi seems to be coming up plenty over the last year and a half. Like Hill, Cardi is the only other female rapper to have a solo No. 1 song on the Billboard chart as “Bodak Yellow” assumed the top spot in 2017 as “Doo Wop (That Thing)” did in 1998. The Grammys created the Best Rap Album category in 1995 with  Naughty By Nature taking home the initial award. The category has been dominated by  Eminem and  Kanye West.  Em has six wins in the category and four of Kanye’s first five albums, beginning with  The College Dropout  in 2005 have won the most Best Rap Album Grammys. Congrats to Cardi on the history-making win! I got married when I was 20 and our first daughter was due on the day of wedding anniversary. So a lot of life changes. I dealt with anxiety and depression, began taking medication for my depression and anxiety and that’s when the weight gain began. Y’know, being a stay at home mom … everything I hoped and dreamed for, it felt like it was slipping away.” Settle didn’t find out she was 302 pounds until her sister passed away in 2014 after an artery exploded in her heart. “Nikki’s death saved my life,” she said. “But my family is predisposed to high blood pressure and diseases. People used to say, “well, high blood pressure runs in my family.” No, the problem is, ‘Nobody runs in our family.’ Her blood pressure literally caused her aorta to burst. After that, Settle rededicated her life and her families’ lives to better eating and for her, working out with her trainer and sharing her message of perseverance! What This Young Mother Living With HIV Wants You To Know

More:

Source: Masonia Traylor / Masonia Traylor When Masonia Traylor tested positive for HIV in 2010, the then-23-year-old was in a state of utter shock. See, since Masonia was a teen, she was adamant on getting tested regardless of being in what she believed were low-risk monogamous relationships. And every year, her tests came back negative, until that day, when it didn’t. “I thought they were lying, that they got somebody’s blood mixed up with mine,” Traylor told HelloBeautiful . Three days later, after she went to see an infectious disease specialist it began to sink in that HIV was her reality. “When they started withdrawing blood from me over and over again, I realized that it was real. This is what was happening and happening to me.” What she didn’t really expect was what she found out next. Two weeks later, she found out she was pregnant with her second child. However, with the help of her doctor’s support and taking her antiretrovirals, Masonia gave birth to a HIV-negative baby girl, who has remained negative for nearly eight years. Traylor, who is currently finishing her degree in public policy, has dedicated her work to being an advocate having served as a campaign ambassador for CDC’s Act Against AIDS, “Stop HIV Together” and Kaiser Family Foundation, “Greater Than Aids- Empowerment & We Are Family” projects. She’s also a blogger and Community Advisory Board member for The Well Project, a non-profit organization geared for women living with HIV/AIDS. For Traylor, she shares her story so that other Black women will see that HIV can happen to anyone. “I started off as a voice to be out there for other women to see that if I had HIV, being who I am, they could too,” adding, “I felt like maybe HIV was quietly rising in the community and people needed to know about it because I can’t be the only one.” She also speaks out as a way to pay homage to a friend who passed away from complications to AIDS. “I lost a friend to complications of AIDS at a time where I wish I known he had known about my status. I wish he would have known that he wasn’t alone.” For National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) , the young mother of two and HIV activist talked to us about what Black women to know about this epidemic, why HIV testing is key and why we need to finally erase stigma for good. HelloBeautiful: Being an HIV advocate, what do you want our community to know? Masonia Traylor: I want for us to understand that we have to care and pay attention if we want this epidemic to shift substantially instead of only progressively. I need my community not to feel forced to accept that I have HIV/AIDS but to respect my journey of living with it. Not to mention, education is an important step towards ending the epidemic but so is taking a stand in our community and honoring values around our sexual health to protect one another. That will put us closer to a cure then we’ll ever need. HB: What do you have to say to other Black women who don’t think HIV can happen to them? MT:  The first word of HIV is human. And as long as you’re human, you’re at risk for this disease. If anything, we shouldn’t be the last ones to think that we can be diagnosed with HIV, we need to be the first ones. And we need to not only protect the next generation to come, but be extremely overprotective of our own health more than anybody else. That, and protecting Black women, protecting ourselves, automatically ends up protecting Black men because they end up respecting us more because we respect ourselves. HB: Even in 2019, there is still so much stigma surrounding HIV. Why is erasing stigma so important? MT:  As a community we need to erase stigma to help encourage those living with the virus to not be afraid nor ashamed to forgive themselves, save themselves, and our community. Stigma inflicts pain, and digs deep scars across our minds and hearts. In order to live unapologetically strong, support is needed and destigmatizing HIV/AIDS needs to be erased in order to be supportive. HB: Why everyone should get tested for HIV? MT:  First off, I don’t think testing everyone is realistic due to certain laws [that require patient’s consent to get tested for HIV] and not everyone wants to know their status. And we should respect that choice. However, I wish everyone would get tested just to help slow down transmission and get control of the spread of this disruptive virus. Although I believe that getting tested is not enough prevention, however testing saved my life and has spared many others. Testing keeps unborn babies from being born with HIV/AIDS too. I think it’s better to know what’s going on in your body then to wait and your body suddenly shuts down due to not being proactive of your health. Take care of your health and your body will take care of you. Testing is part of that. HB: Finally, in a world that tries to shame people for being HIV-positive, how you live with HIV with NO shame? MT: I’m able to live unapologetically with HIV because I understand that no one can judge me harder than I judge myself. I have forgiven myself for trusting someone else with my life over trusting myself more. I understand how I can and cannot transmit the virus. I have birthed an HIV-negative baby as proof that I can still live a normal life. I KNOW that if it can happen to me that no one is exempt nor excluded from possibly contracting HIV or developing AIDS. Like I said earlier, I understand that the H in HIV stands for HUMAN which means that as long as you are human it can happen to you. I’m not ashamed of another’s fear. #BlackAIDSDay: How You Can Live With HIV With No Shame

Source: Aryah Lester / Aryah Lester This post originally appeared on  A Girl Like Me , a blog for women and girls on  The Well Project , and is part of collaboration with HelloBeautiful for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day . “I still have a dream,” said Martin Luther King, “it is deeply rooted in the American Dream.” Earlier in history, Henry David Thoreau was quoted as saying: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you’ve imagined!” Dreams that are tied to a confident, better you, tied to career goals and an impact in society, are of the few remnants of our innocent and wondrous childhood fantasies. However, in reality, many of us see career goals bringing personal happiness as fictional as wishing on stars. Discrimination, HIV stigma and social statuses seem to plant us in mud, with a generous percentage of people just achieving enough to manage the next breath. There are times that hope shines through the dense polluted clouds of realism, and we find ourselves thinking that by chance a rare opportunity is afforded to our lives.  An unforeseen position, promotion or opportunity teases us with the goals of fantasy coming into the waking light and telling our stories in all facets of public health. If only for a moment, the thought of living our ‘lottery of life’ enters the mind and holds root within the desert of desperation. The dream continues to be just that: an occurrence within our minds that never quite translates into our reality. Hope can be manufactured into dreams coming true, outside the realm of “princesses castles’ and ‘heroes destined to change the world.” My own foray into the world of HIV advocacy and activism for an underserved and vulnerable population has so far seen many of my dreams come true, while at the same time having no visibly viable resources to speak of to many in my community. I now find myself to be the Deputy Executive Director of the Transgender Strategy Center , devoted to the needs of my community, in an area where, historically, there has never existed anything like what we created. It had only previously existed in my dreams. Here are the main ten steps that could assist you with achieving the same for yourself. Simplify your life. Don’t hesitate for opportunities within your ability. Join HIV committees/boards. Volunteer. Network socially. Network online. Network. Make relationships with organizations with a similar mission. Form a coalition. Find volunteers/pro-bono contractors. Search for sponsors to conferences and trainings. Realize realistic time factors. Whatever you do, just don’t give up.
