Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he’ll be ready ‘if she does, by chance, pick me to do that’ on Femme Fatale Tour. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there’s one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances . “I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now,” the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. “I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly.” If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. “If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I’m not opposed to, it’s a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me,” he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. “So I’m down with it. It’s all in the name of music.” The string of South American tour dates happens to be timed perfectly to the release of Howie D’s first-ever solo album, Back to Me, and he’s got some fun stuff in store for lucky fans who come to check him out. “Well, I’m actually taking a lot from what I’ve learned from the Backstreet Boys and implementing it into my show,” he revealed. “Actually, on the show with me I have a DJ that’s behind me and we’re kind of working on some stuff together. [There’s] even some Backstreet Boys songs. I’m definitely not shying away and presenting what the fans want to hear, but at the same time premiering some of my new songs off the record and it’s just gonna be a fun, energy-packed, ‘get your mind away for 20 minutes’ on my set [show].” Related Artists Howie D. Now, Brit is taking the Backstreet Boy on tour with her in South America. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: MTV News Britney Spears may be the leading lady on the Femme Fatale Tour, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to bring some guys along for the ride. Next up, Backstreet Boy Howie D is slated to hit the road with Spears, following in the footsteps of DJ Pauly D and Joe Jonas . The South American tour dates — which kick off November 20, days after Howie releases his solo album Back to Me — were an enticing offer to the pop singer. “I embraced it with open arms,” he told MTV News of the trek, which ends November 28. “She’s such a great, talented person. We’ve known each other for many, many years.” He isn’t lying: Howie and Britney grew up together in the industry, with the Backstreet Boys and Spears two of the figureheads of the late-’90s pop revival. Howie said they’re rooted in the same place, which will lend itself nicely to touring together. “We kind of came out of the same camp, out of the Orlando pop scene with us and ‘NSYNC and Britney,” he recalled. “I feel like we’ve all grown together and have very similar, parallel lives with us and our music, [with] certain moments being very, very hot, certain moments not, and just riding the wave up and down as it’s going. Even [with our] personal lives, having families, having kids. I have a huge respect for her, not only as an artist, but as a person. It’s good to be around people you’ve known and people you’ve grown up with.” So what keeps people coming back for more from the likes of Howie and Britney? He has a theory: “It’s a test of good music being out there,” he said. “We really take pride in making good records, timeless records, and being true to our craft and trying to give our fans what they want … trying to constantly take each record to the next level, push the envelope.” Do you want Howie to tour with Britney in the States? By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: David Tonnessen/ PacificCoastNews/ Newscom Nineties pop fans rejoice! Britney Spears has recruited the Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough to open for a string of South American dates on her Femme Fatale Tour. The gigs will coincide with the release of his first-ever solo album, Back to Me, out November 15. “I’m so excited that I’m going [to be] joining @britneyspears on several dates of the Femme Fatale tour!” Dorough tweeted on Monday.”Can’t wait to see all my lovelies in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela!! VIP info will be coming next week.” According to Dorough’s site (and as he also tweeted ), the Backstreet Boy’s initial stint on Britney’s tour will kick off on November 20 in La Plata, Argentina, with stops in Santiago, Lima and Bogota before it wraps up in Caracas, Venezuela, on November 28. He’s just the latest supporting act to join the worldwide Femme Fatale trek, stepping in the spot once occupied by artists like Joe Jonas, Nicki Minaj and DJ Pauly D . And when Dorough spoke to MTV News over the summer about his first solo recording, he said it felt good to finally get the chance to show fans a new side of himself as an artist. “I finally have been able to put [my album] together and I’m excited and very, very proud to be able to make this body of work,” he told us. “I feel [it’s] a total representation of where I’m at right now in my life and [it represents] things that are going on, positive-ness and energy. I think it’s really a chance for people to hear me and know my voice.” That’s not all, Howie D fans. Next year, Dorough will hit the road again with NKOTBSB — yes, New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys — for a European tour that kicks off in April. “It’s awesome,” Dorough told MTV News of touring with NKOTBSB. “It all kind of spun from that show at Radio City [Music Hall]. I think we did something that was a shock factor for people. I don’t think a lot of people would have thought the two of us being onstage together would have been fathomable.” What do you think of Howie D opening for Britney Spears? Tell us in the comments! Gary Ross says Jennifer Lawrence will help him give viewers the same ‘visceral experience’ as the books. By Eric Ditzian Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate While the “Hunger Games” teaser trailer lit up the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, director Gary Ross was back in North Carolina, his head space not so much occupied with Lady Gaga in drag and Lil Wayne’s long dreads as it was with Katniss Everdeen and the dystopian nation called Panem. Ross is still in the midst of shooting his adaptation of “The Hunger Games,” but last week, with the teaser set to debut at the VMAs, he took the time to touch base with MTV News via Skype to give us his exclusive commentary about the footage. Katniss Vision Suzanne Collins’ novel is a first-person tale, and it’s clear from the teaser Ross is striving to capture that same sort of immediate access into Katniss’ head. “I think one of the most important things when you adapt a book like this is to give people the experience they really had when they read it — the same kind of visceral experience they had,” he explained. “I think [the reason] everybody felt so strongly in what Suzanne did was that they were with this character, they understood her, they were in her shoes, they were in her head. It was such an intense first-person experience. My job in making a film is first and foremost to reflect that. “How do we get inside Katniss’ head? How do we feel what she’s feeling? How do we become her?” Ross continued. “The first thing that allows you to do that is Jennifer Lawrence, because she’s such an unbelievable actor. She has so much depth and power and talent and sophistication and sensitivity and subtly that she’s become Katniss Everdeen synonymously. I hope people feel about Jen and Katniss at the end of this three-book cycle the way they feel about Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter — that they’ve become very, synonymous with one another.” Get “Hunger Games” experts’ analysis of the teaser. Gale’s Voiceover That voiceover you hear during the trailer? That’s Katniss’ District 12 pal Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). And Ross has a very specific idea in mind about the importance of making Gale a part of this initial footage (and not Katniss’ Hunger Games companion, Peeta Mellark). “As everyone knows, Gale is an enormous part of Katniss’ life, but he’s not as big a part of the first book as he is the subsequent books,” the director told us. “I think he’s very, very present and he’s tremendously important, but of course we shift into the Capitol and then the arena, where Peeta ends up playing a more prominent role. But he’s in her head, he’s in her life, he’s something that echoes with her throughout the games, as any reader of the book knows, so he plays an obviously prominent role.” The Difficulty of the Shoot Though Ross and his team didn’t have to contend with giant fireballs in the woods, as Katniss does in the first look, the filmmaker revealed that the set in the North Carolina forest posed quite a challenge to the production. “This was like shooting in Vietnam,” he said. “I felt like I was making ‘Apocalypse Now.’ The thing was so rigorous. We spent something like six weeks outside in the jungle every day, hiking up and down mountains with cameras and in the mud and in driving rain storms. We all felt it, but nobody felt it as much as Jen did. It’s been an intense physical experience for her.” Just Getting Started While Ross was proud to show off this initial footage, he told us this is only the beginning and that there are a few scenes and characters in particular that he can’t wait for people to see in the future. “We’re still shooting, so unfortunately, it’s just a teaser,” he said. “We could only give you a little bit, because we’re still down here making the movie. I’ve got to leave in half an hour and shoot. But there’s a lot of things to come that I think are going to be hugely epic and very emotional and incredibly powerful. I think that we’ve done wonderful things with the mutts. I think that we’ve done a tremendous job bringing the Capitol to life, and I think that’s going to be really, really exciting for people to see. And all the performances! Wait till you see Stanley Tucci do Caesar Flickerman.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
