Keanu Reeves Reveals ‘Bill And Ted 3’ Plot Details

‘I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft,’ Reeves tells MTV News of script for slacker sequel. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Keanu Reeves Photo: MTV News Let’s travel back in time to September 2010 and the Toronto Film Festival, when Keanu Reeves told us he was most certainly not joking about jump-starting a third “Bill and Ted” movie — 20 years after the last one hit theaters. In fact, he said, original writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon were “going to try and see if they can write something.” Flash-forward to the present day and a most excellent update on their progress, which Reeves kicked to us while promoting his indie comedy “Henry’s Crime.” “I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft,” he said on Monday (April 4), adding with a laugh, “No pressure, guys!” Back in September, Reeves dished nothing but wacky jokes about what the project might actually look like — a 3-D black-and-white sequel co-directed by Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Werner Herzog? — but this time around the 46-year-old actor gave us some meaty clues about the film’s potential plot (albeit with a few caveats). “I know a little bit. But I don’t know — the fellas went off and cooked it up,” he explained. “I don’t know what happened when they put the elements together.” That said, Reeves went on to describe how the story arc might fit into the overall franchise mythology. “When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened,” he said. “So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back,” he added before trailing off. So it seems that “Bill and Ted 3” (or whatever it ends up being called) will focus on the Wyld Stallyns’s attempts to live up to the hype that Rufus (George Carlin) first revealed in the 1989 original. Perhaps they’re running out of time. After all, Bill (Alex Winter) and Reeves’ Ted will be approaching 50 in the third film, a prospect that had Reeves laughing, “That’s pretty excellent!” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Henry Cavill Says His Superman ‘Going To Be Different’

‘Immortals’ actor talks to MTV News at WonderCon in his first on-camera interview since being cast as the Man of Steel. By Aly Semigran with reporting by Joshua Horowitz Henry Cavill at WonderCon 2011 Photo: Getty Images When Henry Cavill was cast as Superman for Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot of the beloved superhero, the actor was not only going to have to fly high as the Man of Steel, but balance a tough high-wire act as well. MTV News caught up with Cavill at this weekend’s WonderCon, the San Francisco comic and arts convention where he was promoting his latest effort, a Greek mythology action-adventure film called “Immortals.” In his first on-camera interview since being cast as Superman, Cavill discussed why it’s so important to stick to the Man of Steel fans know and love, all while giving it a fresh, new take. He said he has read the script and revealed that, in addition to staying “true to the source material,” it’s “basically just a re-imagining and a modernization of an iconic character.” Still, will Cavill — who will co-star with Amy Adams , Kevin Costner and Diane Lane in the eagerly anticipated film, tentatively titled “Superman: Man of Steel” — stray far enough away from the Superman that Christopher Reeve, and later, Brandon Routh, brought to life on the big screen to make it his own without polarizing its devotees? “That’s tough to say; it’s very early days yet,” the 27-year-old actor acknowledged. “Superman is Superman, after all. There’s only so much of a change you can make to that.” As Cavill, finally, diplomatically, put it, “It’s going to be different, but not so different that it’s unrecognizable.” He then concluded with a laugh,”How’s that for an answer?” But, it seems no matter what his approach to the material might be, plenty of people involved with the project, and those in the industry, have his back. Snyder spoke highly of his leading man, telling MTV News that in addition to the look and physicality required for the role, “I think Henry just has this innocence, too. He has both, which is tricky.” In February, Oscar-nominated director Christopher Nolan said at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, “I think Henry is going to be amazing.” How do you think Henry Cavill should approach playing Superman? David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren Bring Ultra Music Fest To A Close

All-star lineup of Erick Morillo, Wolfgang Gartner, Laidback Luke, will.i.am, Diddy, Chemical Brothers and many more close out three-day bash. By Akshay Bhansali David Guetta and Flo Rida perform at Ultra Music Fest Photo: MTV News MIAMI — On its third and final day, the Ultra Music Festival delivered a blazing one-two punch of trance and house star power for the 50,000 fans in attendance on closing day of the annual get-together held at Bicentennial Park. The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am joined an impressive roster of house-music performers that included Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera , Wolfgang Gartner and David Guetta. Dutch trance music star Armin van Buuren celebrated the 500th broadcast of his A State of Trance show, this time dubbed ASOT 500, in honor of the milestone. The show filled in the slot normally taken by Carl Cox’s stage on Friday and Saturday, and van Buuren brought some well-known trance-DJ friends like Cosmic Gate, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, ATB and the night’s closer, Sander Van Doorn, all of whom helped to pack a few thousand fans into the tent, chest to back, to capacity. Just before 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, AVB joined friend/countryman/collaborator Corsten onstage. But a hug and a few jokes later and it was van Buuren’s turn to steer the ASOT 500 ship, and he throttled into his set. Van Buuren also held down hosting duties throughout the night, revealing in an on air-interview with ATB the pair have collaborated on a track titled “Vice Versa.” On the main stage, Gartner didn’t just hit fans with hits like “Spacejunk,” “Illmerica,” and his deadmau5 collabo, “Animal Rights.” He also tested out a few new songs, including still-unreleased gems “818,” and his next single, the electro-house banger “Forever,” which features vocals by will.i.am. Later, house legend Morillo blessed the crowd with three top-notch vocalists: Rachel Starr, former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta, and powerhouse singer Shawnee Taylor took turns joining him onstage. Fans sang along with Taylor as she belted the hits “Stronger” and “Live Your Life” among others. Finally, Diddy joined his buddy Morillo onstage, dropping his bars from Dirty South’s remix of Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” a Miami Music Week DJ-set staple. David Guetta was feeling particularly electro-clubby. He hammered fans with hair-raising renditions of his material, kicking things off with “Gettin’ Over You,” and then a baritone horn-driven thumper of a tune that some fans may have heard days before at Mansion. Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am joined Guetta onstage at various points of the night, adding vocals to Guetta’s remixes of BEP hits “The Time,” and “I Gotta Feeling.” But probably the more unexpected cameo was Flo Rida, who showed up with an entourage of Super Soaker-wielding friends and charged onto the stage for the Guetta/Flo hit “Club Can’t Handle Me.” Perhaps the most moving moment of the day came when rising star Afrojack joined Guetta and addressed the audience. “Miami, last year, I played here for the first time, through David,” Afrojack said. “I had a great time. David is all about the love. David, I love you. Miami, I love you. This guy is the f—ing sh–! So Miami, make some noise for David Guetta!” Needless to say, the crowd seemed to agree with the 22-year-old Dutch phenom. They returned his request with a roar. TRAILER: Mark Ruffalo’s All-Healing Sympathy for Delicious

Sympathy for Delicious wasn’t exactly the toast of Sundance 2010, but with a cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Laura Linney, Juliette Lewis, Noah Emmerich, John Carroll Lynch, screenwriter Christopher Thornton, and first-time director Mark Ruffalo, it earns a second look in its new trailer. We can quibble about the use of Rolling Stones lyrics to illustrate the movie’s theme of healing, but at least “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” stays out of the fray.
