Fifty Shades of Grey Boycott Urged By Activists: Why?

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has generated controversy since the get-go, and with its premiere one week away, some activists are organizing a boycott. Based on what? The issue at hand is somewhat unexpected … Given that the film was inspired by a BDSM-filled erotic novel that was conceived as Twilight fan fiction, it’s not a shock that its content is provocative. What’s a little surprising is that one particular organization doesn’t seem to take much issue with the sexual atmosphere in the story, but something else. A new online campaign called #50dollarsnot50shades is seeking both a boycott of Fifty Shades of Grey as well as donations to support battered women. While the campaign and its supporters don’t necessarily seem to object to sexual content, they do claim that the film glamorizes violence against women. The executive director of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCSE), one of the campaign’s supporters, stated on the organization’s website: “Hollywood is advertising the Fifty Shades story as an erotic love affair, but it is really about sexual abuse and violence against women.” “As such, the #50dollarsnot50shades movement is calling for audiences to not see Fifty Shades of Grey when it debuts on Valentine’s Day weekend.” “Instead, donate the money they would have spent on a popcorn, drinks, movie ticket and babysitter to charities that support abused women.” The NCSE is not alone in its view of the movie. Groups promoting the campaign include London Abused Women’s Centre and Stop Porn Culture. As of this report, neither E.L. James, the author of the original book series, Universal Studios or the main stars have responded to the controversy. This is the latest uproar to make headlines for Fifty Shades of Grey , which received an “18” rating in the UK (basically like an NC-17 in the U.S.). In America, Fifty Shades’ R rating hasn’t sat well with some critics who feel it doesn’t properly inform people of the graphic nature of the movie. Fifty Shades of Grey: HOT Second Trailer GIFs 1. Josh Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting fame claims to love gay people, but his endorsement of a pair of controversial authors would suggest otherwise. He recently plugged home improvement experts David and Jason Benham‘s Christianity-based book, Whatever The Cost , on his official Instagram. “An incredible story of faith,” the soon-to-be father of four gushed. David and Jason Benham have came under heavy scrutiny, however, for openly slamming gay men and women on a conservative radio show. “We have a homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation,” David said, lamenting the “demonic ideologies” taking over our schools. In the wake of the controversial statements, the Benhams’ HGTV reality series, Flip It Forward , was canceled before its’ October 2014 premiere. Josh, the eldest son of 19 Kids And Counting parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, has been proactively fighting same-sex marriage for years. A 26-year-old conservative activist, Josh Duggar says he loves gay people , even as he works within the political process to fight against their rights. He has said that he’s actually trying to help their sad, lonely lifestyle as a result of his agenda, which tells you a lot about how he views the community. In November, the Family Research Council Action executive director proudly led a gay marriage opposition rally in his home state capitol in Arkansas. Josh Duggar and his family are equally passionate about abortion. Even his pregnant wife Anna Duggar caused controversy this week when she used Black History Month to attack the controversial medical procedure. As always, the Duggars are steadfast in their beliefs, and are not about to let their elevated celebrity profiles stand in the way of expressing them. Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson Hate Each Other, Fifty Shades Press Tour Has Been a "Disaster," Source Claims

It’s almost here. After months of anticipation, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie will hit theaters and millions of randy fans will line up to see if the jaw-dropping sexcapades that made the book an international sensation are just as hot on screen. Naturally, a major factor in whether or not the film adaptation will work is the chemistry (or lack thereof) between leads Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Unfortunately, if Johnson and Dornan’s press tour is any indication, the relationship between the co-stars is less hot and heavy and more ho-hum. The earliest indication that Johnson and Dornan are less than BFFs came during a Today Show interview to promote the first Fifty Shades trailer .   The tension between the two was so clear that Natalie Morales asked (jokingly) if they hate each other. She seemed a bit taken aback when Dornan nodded yes, and Johnson simply dodged the question:  Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson: Awkward Fifty Shades Interview That’s just one of many awkward interviews involving the two people who are supposed to convincingly pretend to be mad with lust for one another.  In fact, sources close to the film say that thus far the Fifty Shades press tour has been an utter disaster. In addition to the fact that Dornan and Johnson seem unable to hide their contempt for one another, their lack of enthusiasm for the film itself is often obvious when they’re describing their steamier onscreen interactions. Sex scenes are obviously central to the film and both actors seem to be going out of their way to provide spectacularly un -sexy descriptions when asked about their characters’ famously kinky coitus. Johnson has described filming the scenes as a “task,” Dornan has said that he found filming to be unpleasant and stated that he would “take a long shower” before returning home to his wife. So who’s up for two co-stars who hate each other and were clearly disgusted by their own love scenes? We think the John Oliver Fifty Shades audition might have actually been sexier than that. Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Scene Released: Hardware Store Hotness!

Fifty Shades of Grey hits theaters one week from Friday, just in time for Valentine’s Day, and to whet your appetites, we have the first full scene now. In it, we see Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele (sorry, just Ana), at the hardware store where she works. Looks like someone’s stocking up on some home improvement essentials! Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Scene With his piercing gaze, Christian swings by the store unannounced – he’s in the area on business – and rattles off his not-at-all shady shopping list: Rope Cable ties Masking tape (1″ and 2″ thick!) Innocent Ana, of course, asks the dashing billionaire bad boy is he is redecorating his house and of course that’s not what he’s there for. At all. Christian Grey does not do home renovations. He hires people to do that for him while he’s tied up on business. He also doesn’t do romance. He often gets tied up there as well … if you know what we mean! Right Ana? See what we did there? Tied up? S&M? Poor thing has no CLUE. Sure enough, though. Soon enough. It’s just a matter of time before she learns his true, NC-17 rated (or at least R-rated for the purposes of getting this thing in front of a mass audience) intentions. Fifty Shades of Grey, Frozen Combine in Epic Trailer For the Ages

The first Fifty Shades of Grey trailer was released last month, and it was either titillating, unintentionally funny or just plain vanilla, depending on your point of view. This parody is none of the above, but darned if it isn’t just as fun if not more to watch the Fifty Shades trailer audio layered over clips from the movie Frozen . Christian Grey loves to let it go … if you know what we mean! (Let us know if you do, we’re not sure that made any sense). Fifty Shades of Frozen Trailer Middle-aged moms forced to watch Frozen for the 10 millionth time whilst daydreaming about Christian ransacking them can now experience both! Sort of! Someone synced the visuals with the 50 Shades dialogue so perfectly, it’s almost as if the Disney characters are animated versions of Christian and Ana. Only unlike his Disney stand-in, Mr. Grey doesn’t do romance. The only clips that couldn’t be reenacted with material featuring the icy fairy tale’s hero and heroine were the brief snippets of Christian’s red room of pain. That’s probably for the best. Fifty Shades of Grey Trailer: Scene-By-Scene Breakdown!

More than a year and a half after the project was announced, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie trailer hit the web last week, and it did not disappoint. Well, unless you’re an actual BDSM enthusiast , in which case you are probably LOLing at Christian Grey. But for the fans of the book? Gracious! Fifty Shades of Grey Trailer: 11 Best Moments 1. Whips and Handcuffs! Christian prepares to WORK Ana like you’d expect in a marvelous GIF from the Fifty Shares of Grey trailer. While certainly titillating on some level, the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer definitely brings the cheese factor, not dissimilarly to the source material by E.L. James. Let’s be honest: Even if you love the books, they aren’t exactly literary masterpieces. Guilty pleasures, for darn sure, but heavy on the melodrama. From what we’ve gleaned from this trailer, the movie looks like it will be no different when it hits theaters in February. Here’s a scene-by-scene breakdown: 0:00 : We first meet Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, an impressionable, innocent college graduate who interviews Christian for a newspaper and may or may not know what Google is. 0:12 : “Mr. Grey will see you now,” Christian’s possible cyborg secretary tells Ana. Mr. Grey, meanwhile, stares out his window, brooding in contemplative silence. 0:25 : Watching Christian pace around his office, Ana is clearly taken with this mysterious, powerful figure, commenting on how polite and intimidating he is. 0:40 : Explaining that she’s, like, so simple, Ana says, “Look at me.” Christian replies, “I am.” You have NO IDEA what he’s thinking about doing to her, too. 0:52 : The elevator doors close. Slowly, for added suspense. 0:55 : Christian tells Ana, apparently on a walk in the woods, that he likes to exert control in all things. His eyes look rather insane. LIKE WHAT, she wonders. 1:03 : They make out in the elevator. Hardcore. To Beyonce. Fifty Shades of Grey Trailer 1:11 : Christian says he’s “incapable of leaving you alone.” 1:16 : Ana wakes up wrapped in his blankets and sheets, which she proceeds to drag across the apartment instead of putting on clothes for reasons unknown. 1:18 : We learn that the dude had a rough life. And is a jogger. 1:21 : Jose tries to kiss Ana. Christian lays him the f–k out, because that’s a totally rational course of action when someone puts a move on your girl. 1:25 : Christian Grey tells us he does not “do” romance. Gulp. 1:30 : Cue obligatory Jamie Dornan shirtless montagae. 1:35 : They’re on a plane, because he’s a baller. 1:40 : Ana tells her love interest to “enlighten me.” 1:45 : Does. He. Ever. 1:50 : There is a riding crop and some rope. Her hands are tied. Ana is naked, blindfolded and we see her body lurch forward, accompanied by moaning. 1:55 : He is also carrying her limp body through the hall at one point for some reason, possibly after ransacking the poor thing like there’s no tomorrow. If you’re still blushing from watching yesterday’s first Fifty Shades of Grey trailer , Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson know where you’re coming from. They filmed all of those sexy moments, after all … and it wasn’t easy. Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson on Today In a Today interview that followed the morning show’s PTC-criticized 50 Shades unveiling , the stars dished on the “sexual acrobatics” required. “The reality of it,” said Dornan, is much different. It may look sensual, but “there’s a burly man you don’t know very well three feet from your face … which isn’t how you usually have sex, [not] me, anyway.” Dakota Johnson deadpanned, “I do, a lot.” She kids, but “it’s more about visually what our bodies look like and what we’re doing,” she clarified, “so it’s more of like a dance. It’s like acrobatics.” “Sexual acrobatics,” Dornan laughed. 50 Shades of Grey Trailer: 9 Best Moments 1. Whips and Handcuffs! Those hot Fifty Shades sex scenes won’t disappoint, at least according to the first trailer, which was so steamy it had to be edited down by NBC. It also earned a sharp rebuke from parenting groups decrying the project for glorifying sexual violence and porn, so that’s either a good or a bad thing. It’s a victory as far as E.L. James, who created Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele sees it, as it certainly remains true to the source material. Max Martini to Play Christian’s Bodyguard in Fifty Shades of Grey

Veteran actor Max Martini has joined the cast of the much-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie. He will play Christian Grey’s bodyguard, according to reports. Martini made a splash in 2013 (pun intended) as a leader of the Navy Seal team in Captain Phillips , as well as one of the main leads in Pacific Rim . He also had a memorable arc on Revenge Season 1 . In Fifty Shades of Grey , Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will portray Ana and Christian, the billionaire who Martini’s character will be protecting. The 43-year-old actor joins recently announced actors Luke Grimes , Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford and Jennifer Ehle in the 50 Shades film adaptation. Reports indicate that the film will finally begin production sometime in early December and will arrive in theaters nationwisde on February 13, 2015. Valentine’s Day, natch. Bring your cuffs.
