Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks Eyeing ‘Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close’

Preproduction work has begun on film adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s 9/11 novel. By Adam Rosenberg Sandra Bullock Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images After several years in development, Jonathan Safran Foer’s second novel just got a little bit closer to getting a film adaptation. Preproduction work on the “Everything Is Illuminated” author’s 2005 9/11 novel, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” is under way. Offers are going out to talent while co-producing studios Warner Bros. and Paramount figure out how things will work, Deadline reports. It is also revealed that Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks are “circling the project,” something Bullock’s rep confirmed to MTV News. A call to Hanks’ rep had not been returned as of press time. “Extremely Loud” follows a 9-year-old New York boy in the aftermath the 9/11 attacks, in which his father was killed. The boy finds a key that belonged to his dad, but he doesn’t know what it unlocks. The story charts his search to answer that question. Foer’s book employs an untraditional writing style that incorporates multiple interconnected storylines, photographs and the like. The rights to the novel were first acquired several years ago. Scott Rudin is producing and Stephen Daldry (“The Hours”) is attached to direct, with a script from “Forrest Gump” writer Eric Roth. Warner Bros. is described as the lead studio on the project. Hanks recently wrapped shooting on “Larry Crowne,” which he directed and stars in (he co-wrote the script with Nia Vardalos). It is his second feature effort as a writer/director, following the 1996 drama/comedy “That Thing You Do!” Bullock had a dynamite 2009 as one of the highest-grossing performers that year, between “All About Steve,” “The Proposal” and “The Blind Side,” for which she won the Best Actress Oscar, her first win in that category. Sustainable Dreaming (and Eating) in the Jungles of Costa Rica

One afternoon in March of 1995, I was on a family vacation in Costa Rica and witnessed something that changed my life forever. As I drove through the Southern Caribbean coast I witnessed a playground full of indigenous children getting sprayed by a Chiquita Banana crop duster . I couldn’t believe my eyes. In these days where we can zip across the world in jets and video chat to Australia on our I Phone, atrocities like this are going on all over the world. It was a serious wake up call and one that I am still trying to figure out how I can do my part to change things…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

CNBC’s Greenburg, CNET.com’s Del Conte Suggest Twitter’s ‘Fail Whale’ Could Be Its End as a Viable Business

The Twitter “Fail Whale”: An irritating part of anyone’s day that regularly uses social networking in their day-to-day activities. But could this endanger the viability of Twitter as long-term business? A couple of analysts say think so. Both CNET.com senior editor Natali Del Conte and Herb Greenburg of CNBC Business News suggested Twitter’s infrastructure problems could pose issues for Twitter’s survival on CNBC’s July 2 “Power Lunch.” “Twitter’s down all the time,” Greenburg said. “I love using Twitter. I will say it here and now – if Twitter were a business, it would be broke . Wait! Twitter is a business, but it’s a private business. Maybe it’s the type of business that should go public in this environment because those are the kind of companies that go public. Greenburg referenced to claims that Google was a monopoly and pointed out Twitter is in a similar position since Twitter’s spotty service affects all users, who have no other alternative. “To tie this together, remember, Google had the Buzz which didn’t do much,” Greenburg said. “Twitter you can argue is a monopoly in this space. But it’s a monopoly that is constantly out and we have to put up with it. And somebody at some point should make a point about this because we’re all users.” But Del Conte explained the problem with the Twitter is that its business model doesn’t allow for it to invest in infrastructure since there hasn’t been an established way for the service to make enough money to do so. “They just don’t have the Google dollars,” Del Conte said. “Google has this big huge infrastructure. They have servers and things to prevent this from happening. And Twitter is still just relatively new. It’s in its infancy. Things like World Cup really pushed Twitter down because people are just flooding the service.” CNBC “Power Lunch” co-host Michelle Caruso Cabrera made the point that Twitter would seem like a candidate for investment – a product with huge demand. However, it has some management issues. “If I’m an investor, I look at that and say, ‘Wow, this is a product with huge demand, but it’s not being managed well,'” Caruso Cabrera said. But Del Conte warned that if Twitter didn’t figure out how to overcome these issues and begin to invest in its service, the social networking giant might not continue to stay in business. “[T]hey’ve been coming out with small ideas for how they’re going to monetize with tweets inside your stream that are advertising,” Del Conte said. “And a lot of people are like, ‘No, don’t want anything to do with that.’ But I think that we’ve become very tolerant of targeted advertising and that would be fine. We’ll see that in the next couple of years as Twitter continues to expand. I’m not worried that they won’t figure out how to make money. I’m worried they won’t figure out how to continue to stay in business. ”

Watch Justin Bieber Rap In Exclusive ‘Baby’ Live Performance Sneak Peek

Check out this preview of Bieber’s March 23 MTV.com performance. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber While fans are anxiously awaiting Justin Bieber’s sophomore effort, My World 2.0, we have a sneak peek of an exclusive performance set to premiere on MTV.com next Tuesday, the day of the album’s release. In this preview , Bieber sits down for an acoustic version of his hit “Baby” and shows fans a different side of himself. On “Baby,” Bieber is usually joined by Ludacris, but for this version, the crooner takes over Luda’s part and spits the rhyme himself. Though Bieber has told MTV News that he has no plans to get into the rap game — even though he chills with guys like Luda, Diddy and Drake — his MCing skills aren’t half bad. Previously, Ludacris has talked about how he found inspiration to write lyrics for the teen star’s song about young love, admitting that it is a lot different than writing rhymes for his own albums. “He’s talking about [how] he’s mad that his girl left him and he still cares for her,” he said. “As soon as I heard it, I knew it was a hit, I just had to figure out how I could get on a record with a 15-year-old. So I sat there and said, ‘Let me reminisce on the past,’ and that’s basically how I stepped on the record. And I guarantee you, mark my word, that’s going to be one of the biggest songs of the year 2010.” Bieber also explained how he ended up on a track with the rapper. “Well, [Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta. I met him a year prior to this and we figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, so we invited him out to do it,” Bieber said. “No, [he didn’t give me any advice]. I mean, he’s a rapper; he doesn’t sing. No, [I’m not planning on rapping]. Not at all. Nope.” Related Artists Justin Bieber
