Taraji P Henson Talks Love For Successful Black Women, What Men Want & More

What Men Want hits theaters next week. The latest movie was super producer Will Packer that stars Taraji P Henson tells the story of Ali Davis, a successful black woman trying to make partner at a big sports agency in Atlanta that has clients like Lisa Leslie , Shaquille O’Neal and more. When she gets passed up for a big promotion to someone who isn’t as good as she is, Ali starts wonders what else she needs to do to succeed in a man’s world. Hoping to find answers from a psychic who makes her drink a weird concoction that suddenly allows her to hear what men are thinking. Using her newfound ability, Ali starts to turn the tables on her obnoxious male colleagues while racing to sign the next basketball superstar. This movie highlights a strong woman who isn’t afraid to make the first move on a guy, puts her career first and is willing to stop at nothing to get to the top. While watching this hilarious tale of Ali Davis I drew a parallel to some of my successful Black female friends who haven’t been able to find love. So I asked Taraji her thoughts on why men are cautious when approaching successful Black women. Taraji thinks when Black women label themselves as strong it can scar potential dates away. Taraji explained that “A lot of men feel like they don’t have anything to offer,” a successful Black woman but they need to, “Stop thinking of it in terms of material things. Usually, when a woman is successful and she’s made her way in the world and she’s got her money, she’s financially stable — What she needs and what’s often missing is the emotional support. Sometimes that’s literally what we need from a man. We need emotional support and to feel loved unconditionally.” That What Men Want star goes on to explain that when she has to go out in the world and fight her battles and prove her worth she needs a man at home who is saying, ‘Baby you can do it.’ Taraji goes on to explain how calling yourself a strong black woman can scare potential men you want to date away. In What Men Want Taraji’s ambition does come into play with her relationship interest in the film, which is played by former Underground star Aldis Hodge. The ups and downs of their relationship journey lead to some really funny on camera moments that make What Men Want extremely funny helping 2019 continue Hollywood’s run at some extremely great films. So on February 8th so see What Men Want if you want to see a funny movie that pushes gender norms while entertaining to the masses.

While it seemed likely he wouldn’t see the light of day for a lot longer, Bobby’s mother, Leslie Pollard , informed fans that Bobby should be coming home by 2020. Yesterday Ms. Pollard continued to keep Shmurda fans hopes up as she posted a picture of her recent visit with the “Hot N*gga” rapper with a caption that read, “Great visit with my stinky…..the count down continues 22 months to go. Chewy is in great spirits he sends his Love and he can not wait to be back to work.” Talk about more power in a mother’s hand than a king’s scepter. Hopefully Bobby will be able to pick up where he left off and get back in the rap game up and running.

Lakeith Stanfield Rumored To Star In Jordan Peele’s ‘Candyman’ Reboot

Read this article:

Watch what you say in front of the mirror. It looks like our favorite homicidal urban legend will soon be back on the big screen. Word is Lakeith Stanfield is in talks to star in Candyman . Produced by Jordan Peele the film is said to be a sequel to the 1992 horror classic. Based on Clive Barker’s  The Forbidden short story, the original follows a female student researching urban legends. Her work leads her to the ghost of an artist and son of a slave who was murdered in the late-19th century called Candyman. Screen Rant is reporting that Stanfield will play Anthony, an artist researching the gory myth who eventually summons the killer spirit. His name seems very purposeful as the original protagonist Helen escapes Candyman’s trap with a baby named Anthony in the final scene. Whether or not his role indicates he is indeed the infant has yet to be confirmed. If casted the booking should not come as a surprise considering that Stanfield has worked with Peele previously in the horror comedy satire hit Get Out . Candyman  went on to become a cult classic spawning two sequels including Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) and Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999). You can view the trailer to the original below. Pete Davidson Returns to SNL, Touches on Suicide Threat

Pete Davidson made his first extended appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend since threatening to kill himself over Instagram a few weeks ago. On the latest edition of this NBC program, the comedian stopped by Weekend Update and offered his thoughts on… … random Clint Eastwood movie The Mule?!? Yes. But the aforementioned talk of taking his own life did not go totally ignored. “Here to talk about a very important experience he had over the holidays is Pete Davidson,” Colin Jost said as Davidson joined him during the segment, asking: “How are ya, Pete?” “I'm great, as you know, I've had a really crazy month, and I wanna talk about something that matters a lot to me,” Davidson replied. “OK, mental health?” Jost asked. “No, the new Clint East movie, The Mule,” Davidson told Jost. From there, Davidson and fellow comedian John Mulaney really did talk at length about this film, although Pete did quip at one: “After observing John's life, I publicly threatened suicide. I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't make that joke, but it is funny.” This is where Mulaney turned to Davidson to assure him, “You are loved by many…and we are glad you are OK.” Back in December, the 25-year-old cast member shared a note on his Instagram account that read as follows: “I really don't want to be on this earth anymore. I'm doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don't know how much longer I can last. All I've ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so.” Davidson has often been open about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health. He was also open about his engagement to Ariana Grande , until that fizzled out and the two went their separate ways. At the end of his segment here, Davidson did seemingly addressed his ex, saying very simply: “I didn't mention her once.” Check out the sort of funny and definitely awkward skit here.

A New ‘Ghostbusters’ Film Based On The OG Is In The Works

Read more:

Source: WENN.com / WENN Two years after the Ghostbusters franchise got a reboot with the all-female cast starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, it looks like Hollywood is once again giving the franchise another sequel set in the same universe as the 80’s original. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Jason Reitman (Juno, Tully) has been tapped to write and direct the untitled Ghostbusters sequel which will follow the events that happened in the OG Ghostbusters film that was directed by his father, Ivan Reitman. “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman says. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.” Sounds good to us. Though the 2016 reboot featured the likes of OG Ghostbusters Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, they obviously weren’t the same characters they were when they were hunting ghosts with proton packs and inverted traps. Not to mention fans weren’t too happy with the reboot featuring an all-female cast because, well, sexism. And though the 2016 version was actually pretty cool, Reitman doesn’t intend on connecting his project with the Paul Feig directed project. “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,” Reitman says. We ain’t mad at that. We just hope Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd and Ernie Hudson suit up one last time in the film. R.I.P. Harold Ramis. Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters is slated for a summer 2020 release.

Mahershala Ali Responds To ‘Greenbook’ Backlash After Family Blasts It For Inaccuracies

Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty The Actor Has Words For The Real-Life Family Of Dr. Don Shirley Mahershala Ali had himself a big night at the Golden Globes on Sunday, winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Greenbook.  The movie has received critical acclaim since it was released last year, however it didn’t come without controversy. First, co-star Viggo Mortenson had a N-word slip-up during a Q&A panel. Then, the family of the man the movie was based on, Dr. Don Shirley, wasn’t too happy with the movie. The film follows the piano virtuoso as he takes on his 1962 concert tour in the Deep South alongside his Italian bodyguard Tony ‘Lip’ Vallelonga (played by Viggo Mortensen). The real-life family of Shirley criticized many aspects of the film in a talk with Shadow and Act with Shirley’s brother even calling it a “symphony of lies.” Family members asserted that Dr. Shirley and Vallelonga weren’t even “friends” like the movie promoted and the real-life Shirley was against the biopic which was co-written by Vallelonga’s son Nick Vallelonga. Smh. Well after Mahershala’s Golden Globe win, he addressed the controversy backstage, according to Page Six: “I will say this,” Ali said, “My job is always the same: I have to look at what I am doing and be responsible for it.” He then went on to say that everyone involved with the movie worked hard and he doesn’t want to “throw away” what everyone has done: “I respect the family…and Doc Shirley,” he said. “I spoke to the studio and the family and at the end of the day you wish everyone was happy and you don’t want to offend anyone in any capacity.” Mahershala is telling the truth about talking to Shirley’s family. According to Shadow and Act , he called Shirley’s nephew Edwin Shirley III. Edwin told Shadow and Act , “He called me and my Uncle Maurice in which he apologized profusely if there had been any offense. What he said was, ‘If I have offended you, I am so, so terribly sorry. I did the best I could with the material I had. I was not aware that there were close relatives with whom I could have consulted to add some nuance to the character.’” Well at least one person in Hollywood has some tact and of course, it’s the Black man. You can check out more of Mahershala’s post win talk in the clip below.
