Finding Nemo Trailer: Just Keep Swimming in 3D!

Finding Nemo, the undersea classic from Disney and Pixar, returns to theaters in 3D this September. The 2003 hit won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Albert Brooks stars as Marlin, a maligned clownfish determined to rescue son Nemo, who was scooped up by an Aussie diver and placed in a tank with other captives. Ellen DeGeneres is Dory, Marlin’s lovable, memory-challenged sidekick. Visually stunning then, and even now in standard definition, it should look even more so in three dimensions. ‘Devil Inside’ Writer And Director Talk Success, Controversy

‘More than anything, we’re just excited that people are talking about the movie,’ writer Matthew Peterman tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan Bonnie Morgan in “The Devil Inside” Photo: Paramount Director William Brent Bell and writer Matthew Peterman defied all expectations when their new film, “The Devil Inside,” broke January box-office records . The horror movie grossed $35 million domestically in its opening weekend for Paramount, whose parent company, Viacom, owns MTV. Since the film’s surprise success and subsequent controversy , Bell and Peterman have found themselves at the center of a lot of talk around Hollywood. The writer/director duo took time to speak with MTV News about the film, the audience reaction and the controversial ending. MTV : What has your week been like since the release? Matthew Peterman : It’s really exciting. It’s just exciting for the movie business that it reinvigorated the marketplace a little bit, so it’s nice to be a part of that to some degree. MTV : What were your expectations going into the release? Bell : When we made the film, we made it completely independently and outside the studio system. It was me, Matt [and] our producing partner Morris Paulson, who independently financed the film. We went off to Europe and shot the movie, came back here with it and just worked on it for about a year. We brought on Steven Schneider and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. We worked on it with them for a while and then presented it to Paramount. We had been working on the film since its first inception, over five years at that point, but a year and a half of actually shooting and editing and all the good stuff. Peterman : I think our expectations were to make the best film we could. Hopefully, everything else would just take care of itself. We didn’t have an idea that it would do anything like this. There were no expectations for that. MTV : What do you think of the audience reaction? Peterman : I think, more than anything, we’re just excited that people are talking about the movie. We know it’s a polarized audience. That’s kind of the cool thing that movies do, because we took a lot of chances. We kind of see it in the way people are talking about it. Bell : We’re just excited people are talking about it. We’re excited there are a lot of people who do like the movie. It is very interesting and cool to have a polarizing movie out there that people can get into the heat of discussion about. That’s actually interesting. The more people are interested, the better it is for the film. Peterman : It’s a lot better, man, than just putting a movie out there that’s just forgotten. We have our fair share of fans. We have our fair share of naysayers. It’s cool to see people getting into healthy discussion about a film. MTV : How different was your experience this time compared to your first film, the video game-themed horror movie “Stay Alive”? Bell : It was 180 degrees different. It kind of started off the same, but it very quickly changed. The budget was 10 times this, depending on how you look at it. We did it kind of independently but not really, because it had such a big budget. We shot in America with a huge union crew. It was a much more standard Hollywood kind of experience and one I didn’t enjoy very much. Peterman : There were huge companies involved in that film. “The Devil Inside” was a completely independent project in every sense of the word. We enjoyed “Devil Inside” much better. Bell : It was released by a studio that really didn’t understand those types of films. You know the typical story where you destroy the movie in editing and you turn it from an R-rated film to a PG-13 film, and the result is something really unsatisfying. This time, we got to do what we wanted to do, pretty much. MTV : What are you going to take away from “The Devil Inside”? Bell : We really love this. You can call it “found footage.” You can call it “mock-doc” or “faux-doc” or whatever, depending on how you tell the story. We love this whole space, because you can work with really talented people and aren’t beholden to a great deal of money and take more chances. There are only so many stories you can tell, so to be able to tell a story in a unique way, this kind of documentary style allows us to do that. We certainly want to continue down that path. It gives audiences something different. Peterman : It allows you to do unconventional things. We did those on “The Devil Inside” for sure. MTV : Is horror a genre you want to stay in? Bell : I think it will be for a while. We’ve written a lot of projects that we’ve set up at different studios that kind of span different genres. We have a project now that’s more of a straightforward thriller. It’s in the pipeline. Certainly the next project and maybe the next two projects will stay in that space. We have a really exciting horror project that we hope to be shooting really soon. It’s a real departure from this one, but then again, there are also some similarities, the techniques we’re using. [ Spoiler ahead! ] MTV : The film’s ending frustrated many moviegoers. What were your thoughts on the URL at the end of the film? Bell : That was something different. When that idea came up, we thought that could fit. It’s a very interactive concept. “Red Tails” Is Putting Black Filmmakers In Jeopardy

Link:

Red Tails executive producer George Lucas had nothing but good intentions by getting this movie made, but he admits that he has unintentionally put Black filmmakers in jeopardy. He financed Red Tails with his own money because he could not get a studio in Hollywood to pick it up. Red Tails cost $58 million to make, more than most other Black films to produce, and if it doesn’t succeed financially, Lucas recognizes that studios will be less likely to green light more movies by Black filmmakers for Black audiences. Read the rest of his comments at  HuffPost . Watch him talk about why getting his film made was such a challenge in the clip below. Andy Cohen Defends Inclusion of Russell Armstrong on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Andy Cohen faced the press/fire this week at the Television Critics Association, answering questions about the new season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and, specifically, why Russell Armstrong has been featured despite his suicide in August. “He was given the option to not come back or come back and he chose to come back,” Cohen said. “He had spoken to producers a lot vocally about how it had helped his business being on the show, so you know, I can’t speak to that.” In an interview prior to the new season airing, Armstrong referred to the show as phony BS , warning that producers edit every action and every conversation. Did they ever considering cutting him entirely from the show, following his death? “We had many discussions, as you can imagine, for a long time about how to do the serious discussions,” said Cohen. “And I think what emerged is the story of a woman trying to extricate herself from a bad, broken marriage in which she was unhappy and in which domestic violence played a part. And that was the story that wound up emerging from the season.” That, and very high ratings, of course. [Photo: WENN.com]

Russell Brand Slides Off Wedding Ring In Pre-Divorce Video

Comedian jokingly removed band in November announcement for his college tour. By Jocelyn Vena Russell Brand Photo: Colin MacFarlane / Splash News A little over a month before he announced he would be taking off his wedding ring for good, Russell Brand jokingly took off his band when he announced his college tour. The video announcement, which he (and Katy Perry ) posted in mid-November , seems to be getting some attention thanks to Brand’s pre-split jovial nature about removing his ring and learning about what happens in sorority houses. He opens the clip saying, “Hello Americans, this is a time of terrific change and the perfect time for me to go on a tour.” He then rambles on about American college life, adding, “I don’t know nothing about your college culture. This, for me, is going to be an educational experience. “Now in each of these cases I want to meet people from sororities and fraternities,” he continued. “I don’t know what a sorority is except for the things I’ve seen on Nudevista; that they are sort of sex clubs for women. Fraternities, that’s a bit like the film ‘Animal House’ or ‘Social Network.’ These are the only references I have.” Noting that he hoped to create worlds of “decadence” on the road, he further teased, “We are going to change college life forever. First of all, I’m going to understand it, then we’re going to change it, and then we’re gonna try and understand the new version.” As the video ends, Brand slides off his ring, with this message, “This is going to be a week of revolution, a week of occupation, and, more important, I’m going to learn firsthand about sororities. I’m going to place this somewhere very, very safe for the next week,” he said about his ring. At the time, his former wife tweeted her support for the shows. In fact, she was the person who tweeted out the video originally. “My [foul] mouthed Hubby @rustyrockets is playing a few mid-west/east-coast shows starting tonight onwards!” she wrote. “SUPPORT!” The video’s resurgence comes just one day after Perry announced she’d no longer attend Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards. The “Hunger Games” actress will be joined by Academy President Tom Sherak at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on January 24 to reveal just who will be up for one of those coveted gold statues, the Academy announced on Monday (January 9). The show, airing on ABC, is set to take place on February 26 with host Billy Crystal . Lawrence was up for Best Actress at the 2011 show for her star-making turn in “Winter’s Bone.” While she lost to “Black Swan” star Natalie Portman , she made headlines thanks to her body-hugging red dress. She’s next set to star in “The Hunger Games,” set for release on March 23. The same day her Oscars gig was announced, Lionsgate announced plans for pre-sale tickets for the highly anticipated flick , which also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth . For those hungry to get their hands on tickets early, advanced sales kick off on February 22. When Lawrence was first cast in the film, which is based on the beloved novels by Suzanne Collins, fans had some reservations about whether she could fully embody the books’ heroine, Katniss Everdeen. “I wasn’t aware that everybody was so upset until I after I got my hair dyed, and people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, blond hair can turn brown. Wow. It’s a miracle,’ ” Lawrence told MTV News in May of last year. Joe Carnahan Talks Killing Pablo and Continue, Described as ‘Groundhog Day as an Action Movie’

“Smokin’” Joe Carnahan ( Narc , Smokin’ Aces , The A-Team ) has endured his fair share of ill-fated projects and setbacks, but his passion project Killing Pablo remains a priority. And while the fate of White Jazz remains opaque, Carnahan shared optimism for his long-gestating Pablo Escobar biopic while promoting his existential survival pic The Grey last weekend in Los Angeles. If all goes well and the Liam Neeson-led The Grey takes off upon release later this month, he says he hopes to make Pablo his next project. The characteristically candid Carnahan, who recently dropped out of the director’s chair on Umbra , expressed hope that a successful debut for The Grey will allow him to finally bring Killing Pablo to the screen after years of research. “I feel like Pablo ’s the undernourished orphan that I’ve been looking after for years,” he said. “I’ve got to get this kid a meal. Yes, [ Killing Pablo ] would be, in a perfect world, the film that I’d want to make next. I still think it’s the best script I’ve written and I see these other kinds of things ramping up, and I just can’t get beat by these other movies.” Adapted from Mark Bowden’s book of the same name, Killing Pablo chronicles the efforts of the United States and Colombian governments to wage war against drug lord Escobar, who was killed by Colombian forces in 1993. Escobar’s legend, and a lingering fascination with his death, kept Carnahan fixated on making the film even through years of development hell that saw his creative struggle mirrored on HBO’s Entourage . “As much as The Grey is about attrition and going out and earning it, you know, I’ve been to Colombia three times, Medellin and Bogotá, I’ve done all this research,” Carnahan said. “I think what kind of crystallized it for me is I went to Los Olivos where he was killed, in Medellin, which is kind of a very modest middle-class neighborhood, and I was interviewing this 78-year-old man through an interpreter.” “I was talking to him, because Pablo was killed December 2, 1993,” he continued. “I said to him, ‘Can you tell me about that day?’ Because I’d gone up on the roof where he was killed and it was very undramatic, where he wound up dying; it was like a terra cotta box that he died in. And the guy said to me, and I’ll never forget this: ‘The day it happened I thought it was an early winter thunderstorm,’ because the level of gunfire was so constant he could not discern individual shots. And I thought, ‘Fuck me, I’ve got to make this movie.’” As for Carnahan’s career, which has traversed a range of projects from the modest, well-received Narc to the high-octane Smokin’ Aces , the big-budgeted A-Team , the cop drama Pride and Glory (which he co-wrote) and the sci-fi pic The Fourth Kind (which he produced), he sees no need to take a turn for the serious, necessarily, despite the philosophical and even metaphysical themes in the otherwise action-oriented The Grey . Doing the mainstream studio flick, The A-Team , for example, allowed Carnahan to scratch a certain itch while giving him the platform to make more personal films like The Grey , which he’s called his best film to date. “I realized, especially after A-Team , ‘Wait a minute — am I being viewed as a schmuck?’” he recalled. “Because my reasons for doing A-Team … there were a number of reasons, not the least was which I couldn’t make this or White Jazz or Killing Pablo . I couldn’t make those movies. And after Mission Impossible III , which again I left before I was fired, I had unfinished business. With The A-Team it was like, ‘Alright I’m going to do a big popcorn movie and see how that feels.’” If all goes well Pablo might finally come to fruition, but in the meantime Carnahan’s currently at work on a project at Fox called Continue , which the filmmaker describes as “ Groundhog Day as an action movie.” “As much as I love Antonioni films, I love the Three Stooges,” he explained. “I think [ Continue ] is funny as shit. It’s completely, from DNA to bone structure, different from The Grey but that doesn’t mean it’s something I wouldn’t do because now [I’ve] got to make serious films. I think I made this film to kind of prove to myself and whatever people are going to hire me in the future and the public at large that there’s a lot of different things I can do. If I can do a romantic comedy with women, that’s Everest to me.” The Grey is in theaters January 27. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
