‘Harry Potter’ Films Could All Get 3-D Theatrical Releases, Producers Hint

‘I suspect the studio is going to be reluctant to let it die,’ David Heyman tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” Photo: Warner Bros. “Harry Potter” producers may have ditched plans to release “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” in 3-D last November, but they haven’t abandoned bringing three dimensions to the film. The flick is currently being converted to 3-D for a Blu-ray release . What’s more, we just might see the rest of the franchise get the 3-D treatment too. “We’re doing 3-D for the DVD of ‘7, Part 1,’ and there’s been no discussion of anything else yet,” producer David Heyman told MTV News recently. “But I suspect the studio is going to be reluctant to let it die, and if there’s an opportunity to maybe enrich … ” Heyman left it at that, but those hints jibe with what he told us as far back as March 2010 , when he said of converting the entire series, “I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.” For now, filmmakers are racing to finish “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” ahead of the July release and working on the conversion of the first part for the Blu-ray. “We’re very pleased with the way ‘Part 1’ is going — the 3-D for the Blu-ray,” producer David Barron said. “It’s really exciting, really involved.” “I was surprised at how wonderful it is,” Heyman added. “It is different in some ways [than the theatrical release], but it’s enriching.” Additionally, they’re continuing to work on theatrical 3-D effects for “Part 1,” a process that has not yet been finished. “We haven’t completed the first part in 3-D for film release, for theatrical,” Barron said. “The quality is quite different,” Heyman explained. “It’s much easier, in a way, to do 3-D for a smaller screen for a bigger screen.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Adds Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard

Actors rejoin ‘Inception’ director Christopher Nolan for ‘Batman’ film. By Kara Warner Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images After months of rumors and speculation, “The Dark Knight Rises” has officially named two more members to its already-impressive cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard. Both actors have long been assumed to have joined Christopher Nolan’s third highly anticipated “Batman” film, but were not confirmed in an official capacity. According to the announcement from Warner Brothers, Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Curiously enough, both characters are brand new to the world of the caped crusader: They did not appear in the DC comic upon which the film and character are based. Nolan, who worked with Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard on last summer’s blockbuster “Inception,” said about the film’s new additions, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.” “The Dark Knight Rises” is set to begin production soon in Pittsburgh, a departure from Chicago, the setting used for Gotham in Nolan’s “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight.” Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard join recently added actors Diego Klattenhoff, Daniel Sunjata, Ben Gorman, Josh Pence and Juno Temple , in addition to fellow “Batman” newcomers Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy. ‘Scream 4’: Why Didn’t It Slay The Box Office?

Movie experts weigh in on why Ghostface didn’t scare up impressive returns for the franchise. By Eric Ditzian Courteney Cox in “Scream 4” Photo: Gemma La Mana/ Dimension Films Unlike Indiana Jones and John McClane, Ghostface has not aged particularly well. While Indy’s franchise and McClane’s “Die Hard” films took lengthy breaks from the multiplex and returned with impressive box-office debuts, “Scream 4” got off to a start that fell on the low end of projections. The horror flick’s $19.3 million debut on more than 4,400 screens was, in fact, a major fall from the previous installment in 2000, which Box Office Mojo points out was $52 million when adjusted for ticket-price inflation. While insiders were hardly expecting “Scream 4” to live up to the performance of the original trilogy, the movie nonetheless failed to widely reconnect with moviegoers. So what happened? A combination of factors, according to industry experts, conspired to hold back the film and cast doubt on the idea that the Weinstein Company will be able to launch a fresh “Scream” trilogy. “Part of the reason that ‘Scream 4’ didn’t connect with audiences the way previous installments have is because of the overall climate change of horror films over the last decade,” said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “Whereas grisly deaths, bloodbaths and torture porn were once the order of the day, creepy and spooky — ‘Paranormal Activity,’ ‘Insidious’ — seem to be what horror audiences die for these days.” What’s more, it wasn’t just a matter of failing to link up with horror-movie trends but with broader changes in the entertainment landscape. ” ‘Scream’ was a pop-culture phenomenon of the late ’90s and it lost its relevancy soon after,” said Gitesh Pandya, editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com, pointing to that decade’s often heavily ironic humor. And then there’s a matter of Ghostface himself, a recognizable killer, to be sure, but one who’s by design changeable and thus potentially less iconic than other horror-movie villains. “The fact that Ghostface is a different person from movie to movie is both a good thing and a bad thing,” said Phil Contrino, editor of BoxOffice.com. “It creates suspense, but it also stops the character from becoming as powerful as Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers.” To all these issues add in the generally weak critical assessment, and you’ve got a recipe for a perfectly fine box-office debut but one that’s hardly impressive. While some insiders suspect the weak opening will dash plans to kick-start a new trilogy, others expect overseas ticket sales to compensate for subpar domestic business, increasing the likelihood of “Scream 5” shifting into production down the road. “This could end up grossing $100 million worldwide, which may lead to another sequel or reboot despite its lackluster Stateside debut,” Bock said. “Ghostface will likely terrorize audiences again, because the number-one rule for franchise fright flicks is: You can never keep a horror icon buried for long.” What did you think of “Scream 4”? Peter Facinelli ‘Stoked’ To Nab ‘Idol’ Castoff Paul McDonald For ‘Loosies’

Nikki Reed, Facinelli’s ‘Twilight’ co-star and McDonald’s girlfriend, brought the pair together for indie film’s soundtrack. By Kara Warner Peter Facinelli Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ Getty Images When he hasn’t been busy with the box-office-dominating “Twilight” movies or Showtime’s hit show “Nurse Jackie,” Peter Facinelli has been working on a passion project, “Loosies,” an independent film he wrote, produced and stars in. In addition to enlisting a high-caliber crew of actors for the project, MTV News has exclusively learned that Facinelli has teamed up with a very special musician to contribute music to the film’s soundtrack: recent “American Idol” castoff Paul McDonald . We caught up with Facinelli on Monday (April 18) to get the scoop on his exciting collaboration. “I was telling Nikki [Reed, McDonald’s girlfriend and Facinelli’s ‘Twilight’ co-star] I was looking for music for my movie, and she said, ‘You should look through Paul’s stuff,’ ” Facinelli recalled. “She was a big fan of his, I heard, and I thought it really worked for my movie, so I played some tracks over it, where we had temp tracks, and it just all worked. So I reached out to Paul, I sent him the movie, and he enjoyed it a lot, and he said he wanted to be a part of it, which I was stoked.” Facinelli added that McDonald’s original music is really inspirational and fit well with what he was doing on “Loosies.” “He has a band, and his band stuff is very different then what he was doing on ‘American Idol,’ ” Facinelli said. “I heard him on ‘American Idol,’ and I thought he was great, but when I heard the band, it’s very distinct and has a voice of its own, and I like the originality of it,” he explained. “So we’ll probably use most of the music from the two albums he has out now on iTunes,” which were recorded under the band names the Grand Magnolias and High Tide Blues. “Loosies” revolves around a pickpocket in New York, caught up in a fast-paced, hustlin’ lifestyle, until he is confronted by a woman with whom he had a one-night stand and is now pregnant. Facinelli is putting the finishing touches on the film before setting out to find distribution and hopefully a theatrical release. TV Nudity Report: Game of Thrones Premiere [PICS]

The hype machine surrounding the new HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones promised viewers a king’s ransom of nudity- and the first episode, which premiered last night, delivered. First, the episode featured full nudity from British babe Esme Bianco as medieval hooker Ros, who bared boobs, bush and butt before spit-shining Peter Dinklage ‘s small but mighty dinklage just off screen. Gorgeous Emilia Clarke then made a nude debut for the ages, baring full nudity as Daenerys, daughter of the deposed king. In a kinky bit of incestous suggestion, Emilia was stripped naked by her (onscreen) brother, baring it all in the bath before her marriage to warlord Dragos ( Jason Momoa ). After the wedding, the newlyweds did it doggy style on the beach, with another look at Emilia’s boobs as the party favor. Ah, the fantastical land of Westeros, where everyone from a lowly (cobblestone) street walker to a incestuous princess bares boob, bush and butt. The only game these ladies are playing is with your boner! More pics after the jump!

Sara Paxton in Shark Night 3D: All Shark, No Bite

We are big fans of the Piranha 3D franchise here at Skin Central, so when we first heard the title Shark Night 3D , we did some mammary math and came up with the following equation: “carnivorous fish + 3D = nudity.” Then lead actress Sara Paxton totally killed our boobie buzz by telling EW that the film will be rated PG-13 and is “very different from [Piranha 3d]…but I don’t think people should go in expecting The Reader with Kate Winslet , either,” No, Sara. The Reader at least had bush in it. Despite our deflated expectations, the svelte Ms. Paxton does look pretty good in a bikini: Shark Night 3D , which opens in theaters September 2, is about a “group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters,” the danger, naturally, being sharks. Check out more from Sara Paxton and Piranha 3D right here on MrSkin.com!

Robert Pattinson Says Playing Reese Witherspoon’s Love Interest Was ‘Bizarre’

Pattinson had been cast as his ‘Water for Elephants’ co-star’s son in 2004’s ‘Vanity Fair.’ By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson on the “Today” show on Monday Photo: NBC On Friday, Robert Pattinson is running away and joining the circus. He stars as Reese Witherspoon’s love interest in the romantic drama “Water for Elephants.” And while this time around they’re playing lovers, in the past, Pattinson has played Witherspoon’s son. “It is very bizarre,” he said of the casting on the “Today” show on Monday (April 18). “I think that’s kind of bizarre [that] they cast me as her son,” he added, referring to the 2004 flick “Vanity Fair.” His part was later cut. In the film, Pattinson’s character joins the circus after his parents are killed in a car accident. But in real life, the “Twilight” star never romanticized about a life under the big top. “Running away and joining the circus? [No], the first time I went to the circus somebody died,” he recalled. “One of the clowns died; the joke car exploded. It was terrifying.” Pattinson, however, does have a more romantic view of the time period in which the film takes place. “I think that period, the ’30s, was the most exciting; the end of the Wild West,” he explained. “I always found it kind of interesting and then it turned into white picket fences.” He plays a veterinarian in the film, and he admits that while the old Hollywood maxim is “Never work with children or animals,” Pattinson sort of lives by the opposite. “I think it’s so much better. I like working with kids. I like working with animals,” he said, sharing one warning for fans: “The zebras are the ones to watch out for; always avoid zebras.” Pattinson hopes that as his career chugs along, he’ll still be able to get viewers in the seats, even in a post-“Twilight” world. “Who knows? I mean, you just kind of can’t predict what an audience feels,” he said. “I guess if you keep doing what you like doing, hopefully then one other person in the world will want to watch them.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Water for Elephants.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
