James Franco wins Best Actor for ‘127 Hours.’ By Shawn Adler Natalie Portman at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images The day might have started out mildly overcast, but as the film community watched in anticipation, the Santa Monica beach quickly went from partly cloudy to completely black, as “Black Swan” swept the major honors on its way to dominating the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday (February 26). A schizophrenic thriller about a ballerina’s inner demons made manifest, “Black Swan” danced away with four awards, winning Best Feature, Best Director for Darren Aronofsky, Best Actress for Natalie Portman and Best Cinematography for Matthew Libatique. The flick is nominated in the same four categories at Sunday’s Academy Awards. Among other winners, the rural drama “Winter’s Bone” nabbed two awards: Best Supporting Male for John Hawkes and Best Supporting Female for Dale Dickey. Presumptive Oscar Best Picture favorite “The King’s Speech,” meanwhile, won Best Foreign Film. James Franco, who played a man who literally had to give up an arm to be here today, finally got his due, winning Best Actor for his performance in Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours.” The 32-year-old, who is in nearly every moment of the film as the camera focuses on his character’s struggle to make a nearly unthinkable sacrifice, will be front and center as co-host of the Academy Awards. Other winners included “The Kids are All Right” for Best Screenplay, “Get Low” for Best First Feature and “Exit Through the Gift Shop” for Best Documentary. Thierry Guetta, aka “Mr. Brainwash,” accepted the award for “Exit” on behalf of the film’s reclusive director, Banksy. Hosted by Joel McHale, the show honored independent and original filmmaking throughout 2010, moving from last year’s venue, the downtown L.A. Live complex, back to the beach in Santa Monica. Will it be a regal evening for “The King’s Speech”? Can “The Social Network” dial up Oscar gold? Don’t miss MTV News’ “2011 Oscars Live” at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, when we’ll be chatting with your favorite Hollywood stars live from the red carpet on MTVNews.com, and stick with us all Oscar night for winners, interviews, photos and more! ‘They say all rappers want to be basketball players, [and] all basketball players want to be rappers,’ says wife of Carmelo Anthony, La La Vazquez. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes LeBron James Photo: MTV News Hip-hop and sports are practically kindred spirits, especially when it comes to basketball. At this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend , a number of hoop stars, and the wife of one player in particular, wholeheartedly agreed with this observation. “They always say all rappers want to be basketball players, [and] all basketball players want to be rappers,” La La Vazquez, wife of New York Knick Carmelo Anthony and ex-MTV VJ, told MTV News. Over the years, a number of NBA players have actually become rappers on the side. Besides four championships — three with the Los Angeles Lakers, one with the Miami Heat — Shaquille O’Neal also managed to release four albums. The first, 1993’s Shaq Diesel, went platinum and the third, 1996’s You Can’t Stop the Reign, featured a pair of verses from the Notorious B.I.G. on its title track. More recently, L.A. Laker Ron Artest has embarked on a rap career, while his teammate Kobe Bryant once kicked rhymes on R&B singer Brian McKnight’s “Hold Me.” Not every player necessarily has rap dreams to go along with their hoop dreams, though. “Every player except me wants to be a rapper,” said Dwight Howard of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. “I don’t want to do the rap thing.” Howard did add though about his fellow NBA stars, “We love music. We love hip-hop and we support it.” LeBron James, who is famously and charitably good friends with Jay-Z, mentioned how basketball players are frequently name-checked in song. For example, on Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” the MC rhymes, “Jesus paying LeBron, I’m paying Dwyane Wade.” This synergy between players and rappers ultimately boils down to mutual respect. “We all came from nothing,” Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett told us. “The appreciation factor for each other, the fact you gotta grind and work hard to get where you at, it’s similar. It’s a very similar industry.” Garnett’s teammate and fellow All-Star Rajon Rondo added, “We respect those guys the way they respect us. It kind of goes hand in hand. Rappers love to come see us play. We love to see them perform.” What do you think of the ongoing love between hip-hop and hoops? Sound off in the comments!

Mr. Skin is quivering with anticipation, because the Academy Awards are getting a heaping helping of carpet munching this year! Nominees Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right both feature scenes of lesbionic love (and lesbionic parenting, in the case of the latter). In honor of this perfect Sapphic storm, Mr. Skin is counting down our favorite girl-on-girl scenes that Mr. Oscar has favored with his affections. Charlize Theron was a big winner for her performance as unhinged lesbian serial killer Aileen Wournos in Monster (2003) . Before Aileen is sent to the chair for her homicidal hooker ways, sparks fly between her and ladylover Christina Ricc i.Christina keeps her hefty headlights inside her top in the film, leaving Mr. Skin feeling truly victimized. Hilary Swank made a splash with her portrayal of Brandon Teena in the tearjerker Boys Don’t Cry (1999) , for which she won an Academy Award. In the film, Hilary puts a finger into sweet, sweet dyke Chloe Sevigny in a lesbian scene so skintastic, it had to be trimmed down for the film to get an R rating. More fornicating femmes after the jump!

Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis and Jenna Fischer quip about some memorable dating experiences with MTV News. By Kara Warner Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in “Hall Pass” Photo: New Line Cinema Those who have seen the trailer for Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis’ new comedy, “Hall Pass,” know that in the Farrelly brothers-directed film, the duo embark upon a series of zany misadventures after obtaining “hall passes” — basically a one-week vacation/break from their marriages — from their wives. During this marital hiatus, the boys do everything they can to pick up women, oftentimes using the most outlandish and ridiculous of pickup lines. When MTV News caught up with Wilson, Sudeikis and fellow co-star Jenna Fischer recently during the film’s press day, we asked them to share their go-to lines, as well as a few they’ve used with success. “Hi, I’m Jason Sudeikis,” Wilson quipped, which prompted a witty exchange between him and the “Saturday Night Live” star. “Aw, that’s very nice of you,” Sudeikis said. “Does that work for you?” “Yeah!” Wilson exclaimed, laughing. And then Sudeikis focused a bit, seeming to put some thought into the question, only to make room for more for Wilson laughter and more back-and-forth banter between the two. “My most successful one is, ‘How much do you cost?’ ” Sudeikis joked. “And you have to use that specifically.” “Hold that for Valentine’s Day,” Wilson advised, even though Sudeikis clearly wasn’t paying attention and went on with reciting bad pickup techniques. ” ‘Are those real?’ ” Sudeikis said. ” ‘Your eyes. I’m talking about your dreams.’ ” ” ‘Are they realistic?’ ” Wilson added. Fine, fine. If they won’t take the question seriously then we won’t. Next up, a few of the best and worst pickup lines the fellow castmembers have heard over the years. “Usually women will insult me,” Sudeikis explained. ” ‘I don’t see why you’re so great.’ And then, for some reason, I find that completely alluring.” “Ok, I’m going to win you over!” Wilson added. “Ok, sit right here. Settle in for the next hour or three — here we go,” he joked. Following with the theme of insults as pickup lines, Jenna Fischer recalled a particular unsettling experience. “I had this guy come up to me at a bar when I was much younger and he had said, ‘I bet I can guess your weight and if I do, can I get a kiss?’ And I thought to myself, ‘What?! No! What woman wants to talk about her weight? What if you’re wrong? What if you’re right? I don’t care, anyway,’ ” she said. “The idea that you just approached me with the most objectified vision of me, you whittled me down to a number, was so offensive.” Needless to say, Fischer was not particularly receptive to that line. “He did not get a kiss,” she added. Check out everything we’ve got on “Hall Pass.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Actress says adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s ‘Carrie Diaries’ would be ‘kind of freaky.’ By Eric Ditzian Kristin Davis Photo: Christopher Peterson/ BuzzFoto/ FilmMagic That makes two of ’em. First Sarah Jessica Parker let it be known that she doesn’t think the idea of a rumored “Sex and the City” prequel is such a hot idea. Now her co-star on the big and small screen, Kristin Davis, has joined her in putting down the rumored project. “Not so into the prequel movie,” she told E! Online . “Because we’re us and we’ve discussed our history in the show already so for all of our fervent fans who listen to what we say, why would we rewrite that? And then have like different people with our names? It’s kind of freaky.” Earlier this month, reports suggested that studio execs were discussing an adaptation of “The Carrie Diaries,” Candace Bushnell’s 2010 novel that follows Carrie Bradshaw before she arrived in the Big Apple. Writer/director Michael Patrick King was said to be eying Blake Lively to take on the Bradshaw role in what was described as not an ’80s flashback flick, but a more contemporary vision of the character’s younger selves. Lively has since denied she’d be starring in the film. While the first “Sex and the City” movie became an international smash hit in 2008, grossing over $400 million at the worldwide box office, last summer’s follow-up ended up a critical punching bag and failed to cross the $100 million mark domestically. Nonetheless, Parker and Davis are holding out hope for a third film. “I don’t think we can pretend to go back. It’s creating two histories,” Parker told the Los Angeles Times of the prequel idea, but added of a third film featuring the established cast, “I think there’s one more story to tell. I know there is.” Said Davis, “I’m always hopeful, and I always believe there’s another story to tell because these are these women’s lives, so why wouldn’t there be another chapter. [But] I don’t know if it will happen.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

You would think anyone creating the ultimate based-on-a-true-story mob flick, starring John Travolta, would have the budget/common sense/wherewithal to not cast Kim Kardashian in a speaking part as anything other than herself. Well, according to TMZ, Kimmie is in the running for a part in that very based-on-a-true-story mob flick. Kim Kardashian is on the verge of scoring the role of a lifetime … opposite John Travolta — as John Gotti’s daughter-in-law in the new biopic about the mafioso’s life. Sources connected with the movie tell TMZ, Kim recently met with executive producers on the film to discuss the possibility of playing Kim Gotti in the movie. Nothing’s been signed yet — but we’re told KK’s a front-runner to land the role … and producers have expressed strong interest in casting her … to act. SMH. Let’s hope this is a “one time thing for charity” like the singing . Then again, she DOES have SOME acting ability… She’s hawked everything from Silly Bandz to credit cards, but there’s one thing Kim Kardashian says she’ll never promote: “I have said no to butt enhancement pills!” “I’m like, I don’t think I need them and this is just crazy,” she explains during an appearance on The Rachael Ray Show, airing Monday, February 28 (check your local listings). “I would never endorse a product like that!” Like she’s not the poster child for butt enhancement. The bonerrific tradition of Hollywood nudity goes way, way back to the uninhibited 1920s, and in honor of the upcoming Academy Awards (as well as Mr. Skin’s Anatomy Awards , of course) we here at Mr. Skin have rubbed ourselves raw scouring the archives for the very apex of Academy Award-winning nudity. As tit turns out, the very first Best Picture, Wings (1927) , is also a breast picture thanks to legendary wild child and original “it” girl Clara Bow. In the film, Clara stars as a sweet young thing involved in a love triangle with two pilots, both of whom are sent off to fight in World War I. In one scene, Clara is undressing in front of a mirror when her soldier boys barge in, and as she scrambles to cover up, we get a tantalizing glimpse of her topless. It’s highly unlikely that the nip slip was intentional, but thanks to the miracle of celluloid, Clara’s “it” tits have achieved immor(t)ality.
