Justin Bieber’s Early Drummer Days Featured In ‘Never Say Never’

Friends and family talk about Bieber’s evolution as a drummer in new clip from upcoming 3-D film. By Terri Schwartz Justin Bieber in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” Photo: Paramount Pictures The February 11 release of John Chu’s 3-D doc “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” is fast approaching, and in addition to the Biebs’ many tweets about the flick, we now have another glimpse at what it has in store for eager fans. A new clip from the film shows how Bieber’s talent for drums surfaced at a young age. It’s also full of more cute Bieber baby videos . “He never had any lessons or anything. I just never thought of it being anything other than for fun,” Bieber’s mother, Pattie Malette, says in the clip. Bieber’s drum collection quickly expanded from a handheld drum to a mini drum kit, and eventually, his family friends held a benefit concert and raised enough money to buy the young prodigy his own set of Pearl drums. The 16-year-old pop star made waves at the 2010 VMAs when he rocked out on the drums during his amplified set. He also showed off his skills on the skins at the 2009 Jingle Ball in Sacramento , where he played an impressive drum solo during Cobra Starship’s performance. Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, who had been trying to challenge Bieber to a dance off, tweeted after the fact, “Justin Bieber smoked me hard tonight. He couldn’t win the dance off. But he shredded a gnarly drum solo. I back this kid on the real. Legit.” Bieber wouldn’t be the first artist to start out behind the kit before his vocal capabilities propelled him to the spotlight. He joins the powerful ranks of drummers-turned-singers such as Dave Grohl, Phil Collins, Karen Carpenter, Ringo Starr and Tommy Lee. Boob Valentine:12-31 Theater Report

On the last weekend of 2010, Hollywood is playing its cards close to its chest (blocking some nice cleavage shots). As we enter a new decade, skin fans wanting to see boobs in the theater have two choices for new releases: Blue Valentine or nothing. Luckily, Blue Valentine happens to feature mamtastic Michelle Williams , so no one’s complaining. Another Year No one gets nude in the limited-release drama Another Year , which is disappointing since the film’s director Mike Leigh has supplied us with some good skin over the years, including great UK T&A in the aptly titled 1993 flick Naked . Star Ruth Sheen has never been nude, but you can see her costar, well-aged Brit babe Lesley Manville , flashing flesh in Promoted to Glory and on the small screen in UK TV shows like The Bite and The Mushroom Picker . Another year, another skinless indie drama! Blue Valentine If you want to see some big screen boobage to ring in the Nude Year, then check out Blue Valentine , featuring the funbaggage and fanny of Mr. Skin Hall-of-Famer Michelle Williams . Michelle strips three times in this movie, once at the 31-minute mark when she bares butt being banged from behind, then at the 40-minute mark where she shows T&A in the shower with her boyfriend, and finally an hour and six minutes in, when she gets topless and the lucky bastard gets to lick all over her nips. Blue Valentine won’t give you blue balls!

Ryan Gosling Calls ‘Blue Valentine’ A ‘Cautionary Tale’ For Couples

‘People can see the film and can see themselves in it or say, ‘How do we keep that from happening?’ ‘ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by: Josh Horowitz Ryan Gosling Photo: MTV News We already know Ryan Gosling thinks his latest film, “Blue Valentine,” is a “nice companion piece” to his 2004 romantic drama “The Notebook.” And this is despite “Valentine” having much darker, more sexually charged elements and some MPAA ratings drama . But we wanted to know, given the film’s edgier theme, is it detrimental or beneficial for a couple to see together? “I think it’s the best thing for a couple to see, honestly. I’m not just trying to sell the movie,” Gosling insisted when MTV News caught up with him. “Well, I am trying to hawk the movie,” he laughed, adding that he thinks it’s good for couples to see and experience together, since it will prompt discussion or that it may bring to light existing problems in a relationship that the couple could be trying to ignore. “If there is a problem in their relationship, they’re not able to look at it, and they’re caught in their own experience of it, there’s no dialogue about any of the bigger issues,” Gosling explained. “I think [‘Blue Valentine’ is] a cautionary tale about what can happen to love if you ignore it and you take it for granted.” He went on to say that, because the film highlights the “nitty-gritty” of what it takes to sustain a romantic relationship, it will get couples talking. “I think that people can see the film and can see themselves in it or say, ‘How do we keep that from happening?’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “Blue Valentine.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Titanic, Battlefield Earth and 9 More Abandoned Movie Web Sites

Yesterday, the official Web site for the film Space Jam — which hasn’t been updated since the movie opened 14 years ago — had quite the resurgence when it was discovered to still be working and functioning like it was 1996. Naturally, the site’s existence got us wondering about other abandoned, obsolete official film sites from this particular era of the Internet. And hoo boy, we found some gems.

Wong Kar Wai vs. Terrence Malick: Who’s Got the More Inscrutable Trailer?

Like a phoenix rising from the stagnant pre-New Year’s Eve cesspool of news, here comes the teaser for the new Wong Kar Wai martial arts film The Grandmasters , with Tony Leung kicking and punching his way through…what’s that? There’s no kicking or punching in the teaser? Oh. There’s almost no indication of what the film looks like, you say. That seems about right for today. But here at Movieline HQ, this teaser made us wonder: Is this one-minute blast of calligraphy really any less revealing than the unexplained imagery in the much-drooled-over Tree of Life trailer ?

Michael Lohan to Dina: Give it a Rest!

Michael Lohan, voice of reason? Now we’ve seen everything. Lindsay Lohan’s dad says she’s being manipulated by a lawyer dying for publicity and that suing the producer of a movie based on her life is absurd. Her mom and Mike’s ex-wife, Dina Lohan, and attorney Stephanie Ovadia have made rumblings that they may sue the producers of Dogs in Pocketbooks . Michael says the film about a spoiled starlet with addictions who goes in and out of rehab is just satire, although he hopes they get the facts straight. Here’s Mike talking about Lindsay’s fight in rehab , too … Michael Lohan on Lindsay’s Issues

Demi Lovato Will Not Star In ‘The Avengers’

Disney starlet was rumored to be up for a role in the all-star superhero film. By James Dinh Demi Lovato Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images for PCA Demi Lovato still has her 2011 touring plan , but one gig the teen sensation doesn’t have on her agenda is a starring role in “The Avengers.” Contrary to reports, the 18-year-old singer/actress will not be featured in the film about a team of Marvel superheroes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. THR reports that sources inside Lovato’s and Marvel’s camps are “denying across the board” that the “Camp Rock” star is involved in any way in the all-star comic book adaptation, which is tentatively due in 2012. Part of the difficulty in hiring the actress is that the Joss Whedon-directed film will begin shooting in spring 2011 and the starlet is still undergoing her stay at a medical treatment center for “emotional and physical issues.” Despite the circulating Lovato rumor, Marvel may still be on the lookout for another female actress to join the male-heavy cast. As of now, “The Avengers” superhero lineup includes Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Things have been looking up for the “Sonny With a Chance” star. Not only did the songstress come to an agreement with dancer Alex Welch, whom she allegedly punched before leaving her joint tour with the Jonas Brothers, but the Disney star was also able to spend some time with her family on Christmas Day . She was spotted with her family on the holiday getting food near her treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois. REVIEW: Mike Leigh Grapples with Life’s Big — and Small — Questions in Another Year

The nod to structure in Another Year , Mike Leigh’s latest rumpled, rambling character study, frames it with a gentle irony. A social portraitist known for his regional specialties and organic development process — his scripts are gleaned from improvisational sessions with actors, in this case a central trio comprising a long-married couple and their wobbly third wheel — narrative organization is notoriously low on Leigh’s list of priorities. And so while the film is divided into the four seasons of another passing — wonderful, wasted — year, the time-keeping device serves mainly to highlight how nature shames those of us who remain little changed with its constant, show-offy segues.
