Keanu Reeves Is ‘Trying’ To Make ‘Bill And Ted’ Sequel

‘To me, I’d love to play the role. I’d love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again,’ Reeves says. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Keanu Reeves Photo: MTV News It was on the glittering red carpet at the Oscars in March that Keanu Reeves tossed us a most excellent bit of semi-news about a potential new “Bill and Ted” sequel . “I’m trying, I’m trying,” he said. Was he serious? Just joking in the midst of the overly serious awards season circus? We honestly weren’t sure. So when we got a chance to chat with Reeves again — this time at the Toronto Film Festival, where he was promoting “Henry’s Crime” — we had to probe further. Is a third “Bill and Ted” flick really in the works? Might Reeves reunite with co-star Alex Winter and writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon? Perhaps. And Reeves is positively giddy about the possibility that it actually could happen. “We’re trying. Alex and I are still friends and we’re talking, and we’re talking to Chris and Ed,” Reeves said. “They’re going to try and see if they can write something. To me, I’d love to play the role. I’d love to work with Alex and Chris and Ed again.” “We’ll see what they do. If it’s a film that can stand up on its own … and I’m meeting people now, they’ve shown the film to their kids,” he added. “We just seek to entertain, and if that could be something that could be worthwhile, on its own …” Whether or not Matheson and Solomon hit on an idea that is worthwhile, of course, is only the first of many questions surrounding the chance that another “Bill and Ted” becomes a reality. But it’s worth noting, as well, how darn enthusiastic Reeves is about the project. During our chat, he popped off joke after joke about “Bill and Ted,” mixing his humor with genuine hope (“That would be amazing!” he declared at one point). He veered from one wacky pitch to the next — everything from a 3-D black-and-white sequel to a multi-director feature involving Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Werner Herzog. Will a third “Bill and Ted” happen? Who knows? But it sure is fun to hear Reeves launch into an impression of Herzog describing the project. “I was just pushed by the idea of this innocence being confronted by the nihilism of the world,” he joked. “And I thought that these two clowns could push our perspective of reality and truth to the forefront of meaning and knowledge.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Blake Lively Compares ‘The Town’ And ‘Green Lantern’

Actress relished the chance to play a ‘dark’ role in the drama and a fighter pilot in the superhero flick. By Kara Warner Blake Lively Photo: MTV News “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively has been expanding on her Upper East Side roots of late. She landed the coveted role of Carol Ferris opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan in “The Green Lantern” and can be seen holding her own with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner in this week’s “The Town.” When MTV News caught up with the leading lady recently, we asked her how the effects work and acting requirements differed between the two very different roles. “With all the special effects, you’re in a big soundstage with blue walls and the world you’re acting opposite will be created months after you’re finished shooting,” Lively said of her work on “Lantern.” “So to watch that will be a very different experience, because I don’t know half of what I’m going to see. It’s so exciting, seeing all the visual arts and all the amazing effects they’re creating and the main characters they’re creating. I cannot wait to see it, because that’s one of the most important elements in our story.” Regarding “The Town,” Lively said there’s really no comparison because there’s no CGI in the movie. “Everything you’re seeing, we were doing in the moment,” she explained. “You’re just playing off of each other, a lot of reacting and a lot of improv. It was a very different experience, but both [movies] I just treasure so much. To get to do a role like this that is so dark and so different and so broken and then to go be in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just be the damsel in distress, be a fighter pilot, be his boss at the company, to play women with strengths are the characters I’m most attracted to.” But will moviegoers — specifically the always-knowledgeable fans of the “Lantern” source material — get to see any signs of Ferris’ eventual villainy in the film? “No, not yet,” Lively said. “Well, I mean, there are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don’t think you know yet how evil she turns.” Are you more excited for “The Town” or “Green Lantern”? Joaquin Phoenix Documentary Isn’t Real, Casey Affleck Admits

‘It’s the performance of his career,’ director says of ‘I’m Still Here.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Joaquin Phoenix in “I’m Still Here” Photo: Magnolia Pictures After two years of freaking out fans with his bizarre antics, Joaquin Phoenix’s disturbing behavior has been unveiled as nothing more than an intense commitment to his latest role. Phoenix, who grew a ratty beard, embarked on a hip-hop career and fumbled his way through awkward interviews, such as his infamous 2009 sit-down with David Letterman, has apparently just been getting crazy for his recently released movie “I’m Still Here.” “It’s a terrific performance, it’s the performance of his career,” director Casey Affleck told The New York Times on Thursday (September 16). After much speculation (and mostly negative reviews) , Affleck owned up to the ruse of the flick and revealed that most the film was fake. The filmmaker described how footage of Phoenix and his siblings frolicking in Panama were actually actors swimming in Hawaii, with the film later doctored to look aged. Affleck also revealed that disturbing moments in the movie in which Phoenix appears to live it up with prostitutes and drugs were created with the help of actors. Affleck revealed that the actor’s agent was even in on the stunt and agreed to cooperate after the director detailed his plan to show the world Phoenix “has lost his mind,” noting, “You would think he would have me killed immediately.” Many moviegoers will perhaps question why Affleck and Phoenix went to the trouble of staging what appeared to be a meltdown of an Oscar-winning A-lister instead of just openly shooting a mockumentary and calling it a day. Affleck explained that the duo wanted viewers to believe they were indeed witnessing the fall of a great star. “We wanted to create a space,” he said. “You believe what’s happening is real.” What do you think about Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck’s fake documentary “I’m Still Here”? ‘The Town’ Star Blake Lively Chooses Team Bourne Over Team Ben

Actress skillfully dodges our Ben Affleck-vs.-Matt Damon question by opting for Jason Bourne. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Blake Lively Photo: MTV News Ben Affleck’s Boston-based, true life-inspired bank-heist flick “The Town.” is a far cry from the first time audiences experienced Affleck’s Beantown love in “Good Will Hunting,” given the new film’s intensity and violence. But the fact that the film is set in Boston and directed by Affleck tugs a bit on our nostalgic Will Hunting-loving hearts. As such, when MTV News caught up with “The Town” co-star Blake Lively recently, we couldn’t help but ask: Back in the “Good Will Hunting” days, was she Team Ben or Team Matt? Fans might expect Lively to side with her director, but she chose one of Matt Damon’s characters instead. “Jason Bourne,” she said, referencing the “Bourne” trilogy’s hero. “I’ve never met [Damon], but he was told of my obsession with Jason Bourne — but not [with] Matt,” she clarified. “Matt’s an amazing actor, incredible, but Jason Bourne? Come on. That’s it.” Lively said she used her admitted obsession with the “Town” director’s BFF to her advantage. “I actually teased Ben. Ben likes to tell the story that one day he was referencing Matt, and I said, ‘Oh, you know Matt Damon?’ I was teasing him,” she insisted. “But I never let on that I was teasing him and just made him feel old.” Regarding her love for Affleck, who the 23-year-old called “Mr. Boston,” Lively said half of the joy in filming the movie was in seeing how much the people of Boston love their successful son. “To get to work with him in a place that embraces him so much, the fact that we had access to Fenway Park, that’s something that’s pretty rare,” she said. “And the resources, the way people opened up their homes to him and to us, because it’s a movie he’s doing and they know he loves Boston and tells great stories about Boston — true stories — and so people were willing to open up to him because he has a respect for their community that they have so much pride in.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Town.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
