Steven Spielberg Doesn’t Want Lincoln Biopic to Become ‘Political Fodder’

While discussing the presidential biopic that he is gearing up to shoot in Richmond this fall, Steven Spielberg described what he does not want Lincoln to be. The 2012 title will “not [be] a battlefield movie. There are battles in it, and being in Virginia, we have access to those historic battlefields.” Additionally, “the movie will be purposely coming out after next year’s election. I didn’t want it to become political fodder.” On the other hand, Lincoln will chronicle “the great work Abraham Lincoln did in the last months of his life.” The drama stars Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th president of the United States alongside Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and John Hawkes. Johnny Jewel Talks Scoring Logan’s Run and the Alternate Indie-Electro Soundtrack for Drive

Electro musician (and Italians Do It Better label owner) Johnny Jewel elaborated on the Drive score he was commissioned to compose by director Nicolas Winding Refn . “Nic flew to Montreal and we rented a movie theater and he and I watched the movie twice in a row, back-to-back. We talked about every single scene and all the music. So then from there, I had a month to finish the score.” Although Refn opted to use Cliff Martinez’s score for the final film, fans will get another Refn-Jewel collaboration when Jewel scores another upcoming Refn film: Logan’s Run .

Watch Jennifer Lopez Recycle the Love Potion No. 9 Plot in Her New ‘Papi’ Music Video

Aside from providing a cautionary tale about why you should never build a feature-length movie around a doo-wop song, there has never been any use for Sandra Bullock’s 1992 flop Love Potion No. 9 . Until today — because its plot has apparently inspired Jennifer Lopez’s first post-break-up music video “Papi.” Tate Donovan, this could be the pop culture relevance you’ve been waiting for.

Remember how rapper-filmmaker 50 Cent wrote, produced, and stars in a film about a football player who gets diagnosed with cancer ? The Mario van Peebles-directed flick was set to launch Fiddy into dramatic stardom under the title Things Fall Apart until reps for Nigerian author Chinua Achebe — who wrote a little book also called Things Fall Apart , practically the most famous African novel ever — contacted him with a copyright infringement complaint. 50 offered $1 million for use of the title, prompting Achebe’s camp to shoot back with a resounding rejection.
