Ho Sit Down: Scarlett Johansson’s Mom Says She’s Broke And It’s All Her Daughter’s Fault

Once a stage parent, always a moocher. Scarlett Johnasson ‘s former mom-ager is still trying to live the good life her daughter’s fame has afforded her. But there’s on little catch: she’s no longer on ScarJo’s payroll. So now she’s mad because she can’t afford the house she wants. Scarlett Johansson’s mom and former manager, Melanie Sloan, signed a contract to purchase a $1.4 million two-bedroom in Midtown in October. But less than two months later, the California dweller sued the owner of the 1,228-square-foot pad in The Strand at 500 W. 43rd St. — a doorman building with a swimming pool — demanding the return of her $130,000 deposit. She claimed she is cash-poor and can’t obtain a mortgage, according to court papers. The real-estate battle offers a rare peek into the finances of a stage mother, whose famous daughter was a cash cow until she canned her mom two years ago and hired a professional manager. Even though Sloan attempted to manage clients besides her daughter, the move left ScarJo’s mom with no major source of income, according to her lawyers. Last October, Sloan, 60, presented the apartment sellers, violinist Christina Castelli and pianist Grant Moffett, with a strong financial profile, even claiming 2011 was one of her “best years yet in the entertainment industry,” according to the sellers’ lawyers. The move would bring her closer to ScarJo, who lives in Manhattan. The stage mom managed her daughter’s career since Scarlett made her big-screen debut at age 9 in Rob Reiner’s “North.” She took a 10 percent cut of all earnings, according to a contract reviewed by The Post. ScarJo’s parents separated when she was 13. But in November 2009, Scarlett sacked mom in favor of Hollywood power agent Rick Yorn, whose roster includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz. “Once I got married, I felt that I needed to cut the cord,” the 26-year-old star told Vanity Fair last month. (She divorced actor Ryan Reynolds in July.) Sloan told the seller she still had money coming in from projects she had signed for ScarJo, including campaigns with Moët Champagne, Dolce & Gabbana and the “Iron Man” movies. But now she claims the money spigot has been turned off. A few weeks after signing the contract, Sloan suddenly cried poverty. Wait: you managed Scarlett Johansson for more than ten years and took 10% of every check she got, plus whatever else you got off the strength of being her mother… but now you’re broke? Have a seat lady. Source More On Bossip! True Or False??? How To Choose The Best Daycare For Your Child

More here:

Great childcare  during your work day gives you a sense of peace during the day. Finding the right day care center, consider your child’s safety, how much you can afford to pay and your daily routine. Look for the following: Safety : check if the child care is licensed with your state and country.  Find out if it is well equipped to handle emergencies and if the staff is trained in first aid.  If required, get feedbacks from parents of other children attending the child care. Staff: the members of the staff are responsible for the care and learning of your child when you are away.  Make sure your child is in good hands through the day.  Watch how the staff works with the children and check if they are kind and caring.  Make sure there are enough staff members to give personalized attention to the kids. Learning programs: Find what kind of learning programs and activities the center is offering.  Check if they are on lines of your child’s interests and are apt for your child’s age.  You should also consider whether the programs fit with your family values and inculcate the right spirit in your child. Affordable: Check your finances to see whether it fits the fee charged by the child care.  Determine whether the services at the child care is worthy of the fees that you pay. Convenient :  Think about the location of the care center, if it is convenient for you to drop and pick up the child everyday and if you can reach the place easily in case of emergency. Peer:  the age of children at the child care center is a crucial aspect that most parents tend to ignore.  Make sure your child gels well with other children at the center and are happy at the end of the day. Dayyumm… Ain’t That B*tch!!!: Gilbert Arenas Hit With Child Support Papers While At Work

Laura Govan checking Gilbert Arenas assets all the way to the bank!!! How in the world do you get served during the NBA game??? Did they have to buy a ticket to the game in order to do this??? A process server stopped Arenas as he walked off the court Thursday night against the Miami Heat. The court documents, obtained by The Associated Press, were a California petition filed by Laura Mendoza Govan. She identifies herself as his ex-girlfriend in the documents. The petition seeks custody and child support for three children that Govan says Arenas fathered and has since “financially cut off.” She is also seeking support for another unborn child. After being outed on his lavish spending, Gilbert Arenas called into a radio show to dispute the lies: People facing expensive court battles usually keep quiet, but the former Wizard was awfully chatty in his call into our colleague Mike Wise’s 106.7 FM radio show. It’s all lies, Arenas claimed — except the bit about what Govan said he spends on his legendary shark tank. Yes, it’s really five grand a month: “I’d rather spend $5,000 on my fish than have a drinking problem.” The sharks, he claimed, have died, because of “somebody throwing pennies in the fish tank.” No names. Otherwise, he accused Govan of overhyping his finances. “If you look back at the last couple breakups of any NBA athlete… it’s a format they all go by to get more child support money… This is not ‘Basketball Wives.’… These girls got to stop living a fantasy world.” As for him: “You make bad choices as an adult, and we pick the wrong woman sometime.” Ouch. Govan did not reply by press time. These two are really something else. What we don’t understand is… if this fool kept putting you out every other weekend, why in the hell did you have 4 babies by him??? Source

Mounting State Debts Stoke Fears of a Looming Crisis

The State of Illinois is still paying off billions in bills that it got from schools and social service providers last year. Arizona recently stopped paying for certain organ transplants for people in its Medicaid program. States are releasing prisoners early, more to cut expenses than to reward good behavior. And in Newark, the city laid off 13 percent of its police officers last week. Yuki Scott, right, watched her daughter and other children one Friday last May in Hawaii, because the school year was shortened by 17 days. While next year could be even worse, there are bigger, longer-term risks, financial analysts say. Their fear is that even when the economy recovers, the shortfalls will not disappear, because many state and local governments have so much debt — several trillion dollars’ worth, with much of it off the books and largely hidden from view — that it could overwhelm them in the next few years. “It seems to me that crying wolf is probably a good thing to do at this point,” said Felix Rohatyn, the financier who helped save New York City from bankruptcy in the 1970s. Some of the same people who warned of the looming subprime crisis two years ago are ringing alarm bells again. Their message: Not just small towns or dying Rust Belt cities, but also large states like Illinois and California are increasingly at risk. Municipal bankruptcies or defaults have been extremely rare — no state has defaulted since the Great Depression, and only a handful of cities have declared bankruptcy or are considering doing so. But the finances of some state and local governments are so distressed that some analysts say they are reminded of the run-up to the subprime mortgage meltdown or of the debt crisis hitting nations in Europe. Analysts fear that at some point — no one knows when — investors could balk at lending to the weakest states, setting off a crisis that could spread to the stronger ones, much as the turmoil in Europe has spread from country to country. Mr. Rohatyn warned that while municipal bankruptcies were rare, they appeared increasingly possible. And the imbalances are so large in some places that the federal government will probably have to step in at some point, he said, even if that seems unlikely in the current political climate. “I don’t like to play the scared rabbit, but I just don’t see where the end of this is,” he added. Tiger, Kobe Tie For Most Popular Athlete

For the first time in years, Woods no longer holds the title of America’s most popular sports star. Not by himself, anyway. NBA star Kobe Bryant is now tied. Rising from fourth place last year, Kobe rose into a statistical dead heat with Tiger in a Harris Interactive poll, which Woods has won every year since 2006. Woods’ affair with Rachel Uchitel and countless others became huge news last year, and he has yet to regain the form that made him the world’s #1 golfer. He hasn’t shown much respect for the game , either. A sex scandal can’t slow down this star … or this other star! The survey among 2,227 adults was conducted online from June 14-21. Even before the debacle that was “The Decision,” LeBron James had from third to sixth. Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh, Yankees star Derek Jeter leaped from fourth to third, with the annoying, possibly retired Brett Favre in fourth. Peyton Manning rounded out the top five. Who’s your favorite overall – and which of the two stars at the top do you like better? Vote in the poll below … Which sports standout do you like better?
