‘We actually all like each other,’ Drizzy tells MTV News about tourmates including J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame and 2 Chainz. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake and 2 Chainz on the Club Paradise tour Photo: MTV News When it comes to Drake and his Club Paradise tourmates, it’s all crew love. When rounding out the roster for his current run, Drizzy wanted not only to build an entertaining lineup, but to show that hip-hop doesn’t have to be all about beef. “I just wanted people to come out and see a unity, because in hip-hop it’s always been based off of confrontation,” Drake told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway during the May 17 Club Paradise gig in Houston . “I think one of the coolest things about where we’re at right now, it’s real united. We actually all like each other.” For this leg of his tour, which kicked off May 7 in California, Drake tapped J. Cole, Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz, Meek Mill and French Montana to ride out with him. “The rare times that I get into a girl’s car or be subjected to what someone is listening to in their vehicle, it happens to be those guys,” Drizzy reasoned. Montana is preparing to drop his debut album, Excuse My French, this summer, so he welcomes the exposure. “We’re all crossing each other’s fans, so it’s a good look for everybody,” he said. “Look at the energy in here — we having fun doin’ it.” Rick Ross prot
Some are saying that his father’s wealth makes it unfair for Justin Combs to get free ride at UCLA. By Rob Markman Justin Combs with his father Diddy Photo: Getty Images “It’s all about the Benjamins” has been a long-running battle cry for , and now that his son Justin has earned a full athletic scholarship to UCLA, Puff’s bank is once again the center of attention. In November, the news broke that Justin Combs had accepted a full merit-based scholarship to play football for UCLA. But now, some local taxpayers and students are questioning whether the $54,000 scholarship is fair considering that Justin’s dad topped Forbes’ wealthiest hip-hop artists list last month after it was reported that he was worth more than half a billion dollars. “UCLA’s athletic department needs to consider the fact that perhaps there is another athlete on the football team who could perhaps really use this scholarship,” UCLA student Neshemah Keetin told Los Angeles’ CBS News affiliate. “Just being considerate that [with] our economy, students are trying to get to college through athletics and academics as well.” Once the news broke last year, a proud Puff Daddy issued a statement in support of his son. At that point, Justin’s detractors hadn’t voiced their displeasure. “As a parent, today is one of the proudest moments of my life. This is everything a father could want for his son, for him to excel at what he loves to do and is truly passionate about,” he said. “Justin is a shining example of what hard work, determination and a strong mentality can achieve. I am honored to call him my son and am happy that he is fulfilling his dream.” Justin graduated with a 3.75 GPA from Iona Prep high school in New Rochelle, New York, where he was a top-rated cornerback. He received scholarship offers from state universities in Illinois, Virginia and Wyoming. During a CNN interview, the network’s education contributor Dr. Steve Perry defended the young athlete. “He’s done what he needs to do to be successful, and in a meritocracy we have to accept that no matter who your father is, whether he be rich, poor or absent, that you can in fact be successful on your own merit,” he said. “There’s nothing free about a Division I athletic scholarship. It’s 40 hours-plus of work on campus every single week in order to maintain that scholarship.” UCLA spokesman Ricardo Vazquez echoed Perry’s sentiment, explaining that the scholarship was based on Combs’ talent on the football field and not his financial need. “Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds. Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters.” Should Justin Combs accept the full scholarship to UCLA? ‘It’s so good, it’s so cool, I’m so proud of him,’ she gushes to MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Kristen Stewart made quite a statement when she attended the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Cosmopolis” last week in support of co-star (and boyfriend?) Robert Pattinson . So when MTV News caught up with her during our Sneak Peek Week Q&A for her latest movie, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” we had to ask for her review of the film. “He’s so good in it!” Stewart gushed about Pattinson’s performance. “He’s really, really [good]. I don’t even know how he [did it]. I couldn’t even understand it. It’s so good, it’s so cool, I’m so proud of him. Thank God.” The superstar went said her overall experience at the highbrow film bonanza was just as positive as her review of Pattinson’s performance. “It’s the ultimate celebration,” she said of the glitz and glamour of the fest, which she also attended on behalf of her film “On the Road.” “I was so oddly placed in my body, which I’m so unable to do. I was not nervous. I had the greatest time it was so cool.” After its Cannes premiere, critics pointed out the film’s odd notes but were divided on whether Pattinson was the perfect choice for the lead role. Directed by David Cronenberg, the film follows Eric Packer (Pattinson) in the not-too-distant future as he’s chauffeured through Manhattan on his way to get a haircut. His entire world is falling apart — his marriage is failing, his financial status is slipping and even his very life is being threatened. Dennis Rodman’s ex is taking him to the HOLE … or something. The NBA Hall of Fame member just learned a hard lesson about not paying child support: You have to do so legally or a judge can punish you. Rodman was just held in contempt for raking up a whopping $808,935 in unpaid child support for his 9- and 10-year-old children, reports say. He owes an additional $51,441 in unpaid spousal support, too. Rodman was placed on probation for three years and ordered to perform 104 hours of community service as a result of the Orange County judge’s ruling. While he’s on probation, Rodman is required to stay current with child support and cover alimony. Given his financial situation, that could be tough. Dennis claims he’s broke , in fact, which doesn’t help matters. According to Dennis, Michelle’s six-figure bill is based on a $50,000-a-month order she obtained behind his back – and which he’s fought since 2010. [Photo: WENN.com]
Critics are split on whether the ‘Twilight’ actor was the right casting choice. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson at Cannes Film Fest Photo: AFP After supporting his girlfriend Kristen Stewart as she debuted “On the Road,” Robert Pattinson hit the Cannes Film Festival on Friday (May 25) to premiere his film “Cosmopolis.” Directed by David Cronenberg, the film follows Eric Packer (Pattinson) in the not-too-distant future as he’s chauffeured through Manhattan on his way to get a haircut. His entire world is falling apart — his marriage is failing, his financial status is slipping and even his very life is being threatened. As reviews of the film pour in, it’s apparent that critics agree the film has its odd moments, but they’re split on whether Pattinson is the perfect choice for the lead role. Here’s what the critics had to say about “Cosmopolis.” The Story ” ‘Cosmopolis,’ an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s typically provocative novel of the same name, is the first feature film since 1999’s ‘eXistenZ’ that filmmaker David Cronenberg has directed and scripted. This in part explains why ‘Cosmopolis’ is such a triumph: it’s both an exceptional adaptation and a remarkable work unto itself. Cronenberg makes slight but salient changes to DeLillo’s source narrative. These changes, which are best described by one character as ‘slight variation[s],’ prove that Cronenberg’s given serious consideration to what should and shouldn’t be represented in his adaptation of the author’s ruminative, conversation-driven narrative. For example, in Cronenberg’s film, Eric Packer (a surprisingly adequate Robert Pattinson), an ambivalent and self-destructive power broker, does not get to have sex with his wife like he’s wanted to do throughout DeLillo’s book. Other changes, like the fact that Packer is investing and studying the steady rise in the Chinese yuan in the film and not the Japanese yen, as in the book, are equally striking. These differences noticeably enrich DeLillo’s original story, making Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’ that much more rewarding in its own dizzying way.” — Simon Abrams, Indiewire Robert Pattinson “On the page and on film, Eric is a controlled and controlling figure, a man impervious to society’s norms who one must feel has a mind operating well beyond the capacities of mere mortals. He’s utterly humorless and without detectable compassion or accessible humanity, which makes him less than companionable as a character. Pattinson doesn’t help matters by revealing nothing behind the eyes and delivering nearly all his lines with the same rhythm and intonations, plus repetitive head nods in the bargain. It’s a tough character that perhaps a young Jeremy Irons could have made riveting, but Pattinson is too bland and monotonous to hold the interest.” — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter “After ‘Water for Elephants’ it remains to be seen whether Pattinson’s teen following really is willing to follow him anywhere. But ‘Cosmopolis’ does prove that he has the chops, and he parlays his cult persona beautifully into the spoiled, demanding Packer, a man so controlling and ruthless that only he has the power to ruin himself. Lean and spiky — with his clean white shirt he resembles a groomed Sid Vicious — Pattinson nails a difficult part almost perfectly.” — Damon Wise, Empire Online The Details “There are other cast members who do an excellent idea of wrapping their heads around DeLillo’s big ideas and Cronenberg’s indirect dialogue — Juliette Binoche and Samantha Morton, Mathieu Almaric and Paul Giamatti — and the music, by Metric, supplies the right kind of spiky, sensuous unease for a man driven across town and driven to self-destruction. The film’s cynicism is both majestic and well-earned; at one point, Eric notes ‘… nobody hates the rich … everybody thinks they’re ten seconds away from being rich.’ A chilly, crisp and crystal-shard sharp satire of our money-crazed world, ‘Cosmopolis’ takes us on a limo ride through the collapse of modern society: We’re not behind the wheel for this ride, but rest assured, in the end, we’re going to have to get out and pay for it.” — James Rocchi, MSN.com The Final Word “[R]ather than a thriller, ‘Cosmopolis’ plays more like a wispy film of ideas, with conversations in the limo about society, wealth and humanity dominating most of the screen time. Almost all of these feel detached and meticulously unfocused. Characters toss around ideas or questions, which their conversation partner then promptly ignores or responds to with a non-sequitur. It’s often reminiscent of work by playwright/screenwriter Harold Pinter, but never quite as fun, nor nearly as humorous as it should be. … Cronenberg has still made an odd, uncompromising and occasionally brilliant film of his own, one which is well worth seeing if only for the deft way Cronenberg finds an emotional arc in such an inhuman world. Or else to see how perfectly Pattinson’s performance suits the director.” — Brian Clark, Twitch Check out everything we’ve got on “Cosmopolis.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . We feel obligated to tell this story, but also feel the kids do need to be in a safe environment: We want to get this exposed and while doing so perhaps it may help others that face similar issues or may not know that these issues exist. We Hope That legislation will restructure some of the laws when it comes to Teens and Adoption so this type of thing doesn’t happen to other families, although it happens quite frequently. I am the parent of a 17 year old daughter who happens to be the mother of two children. She has suffered from mental health issues since she was about 12 which has a lot to do with her being a mother at such a young age.We have been seeking help for her, my family and I are there for her and the children. Well on Jan 28th 2012 my daughter was raped at gunpoint by 4 men, Of course this devastated us. After the rape We immediately sought counseling as she began acting out and not like herself. It got so bad that we came to the conclusion that she may need In-patient care AGAIN. So I called our local mental health hospital for adolescents and was told I had to wait a couple of days until they were able to get a bed for her. On feb 9th 2012 my daughter disappeared with the children I called her constantly on her cell phone to see where they were finally she called me back and stated that she was at a good friend of hers house and asked could I come and get her, I did. We discussed her taking the kids and leaving without my consent due to her mental state and she was told not to do it again. Fast forward to feb 14th 2012 I wake up in the morning and go to my daughters room and realize that she and the children are not there, again I try calling her but get no answer. As I stated earlier due to her mental state I became worried and filed a police report…later that evening my daughter was found at the bus station getting ready to board a bus without her children. I came to pick her up while the police held her there. She tells me that she has signed adoption papers on her children and that they are gone. I was shocked but I know in the state I reside that there is a 5 day period to withdraw an adoption consent I mention it to her and she tells me that she signed the papers back on feb 9th. She told me that she had texted the adoption agency and told the coordinator that she lied about everything she told them and that she wanted her kids back of course she was told it was too late. My daughter was admitted into the hospital and upon explaining to the nurse what my daughter did she stated that after being raped my daughter was not in her right mind and that this happens to people that experience a traumatic event. I have a letter from the doctor that states she is suffering from PTSD and Major depression from being raped. She called Family Adoption Services (the adoption agency) to explain but to no avail. I called also to explain and again to no avail. They are not budging. Even though the law allows them to sign these papers and they have a child does not make them capable of making such a serious decision. These agencies give the girls money and gifts,(my daughter was given these things, which is AGAINST THE LAW, (A Class C Felony) and can be considered as “BUYING CHILDREN”. They Use very persuasive Tactics including telling them this is what they need to do to make a better life for their kids and making them feel as though since they are Teens this is the only choice. A lot of times the Teen’s parents are supporting the teen and the baby, at least in this case that’s how it is. Parents of the teens are not notified and they don’t have to be. At 16 and 17 you can’t legally sign a contract for anything EXCEPT to sign over rights to your children!!! Some laws need to be changed. They should have to check to make sure the girls are mentally competent at least. Of course these girls aren’t going to say “oh yes I have mental issues” A lot of them don’t really understand what they are doing, they don’t know how hard it is to fight the system to get your babies back. So I want to expose these agencies and maybe help someone else not have to endure what we have had to endure. Please understand that in NO WAY are we against Adoption when it is needed for children that are in NEED of a Family but, this is not the case with OUR girls. We just want them home, our family is suffering horribly due to this Shocking event. We are now forced to pay thousands of dollars in legal fee’s in an effort to bring OUR girls home. Mr. Rick L .Wyatt (the agency owner) can stop this whole thing at anytime if he had a heart and wanted to, perhaps the financial gain is much bigger than his heart. Some of these agencies receive upwards of 30,000 or more for each child they are able to gain custody of….You Do The Math. Sure my daughter may have told some untruths due to her mental condition, (which she later admitted to) but a Reputable company that cared about the well being of children as well a their clients, would have gone through great lengths to verify any information that was given to avoid trouble during the process……THEY DID NOT. The worst part is knowing that these two children age 2 and 3 were “Ripped” from their family and there is no telling what is running through their innocent minds. To whomever is reading this, when you lie down at night and say your prayers please add a small one for our family as we certainly do need and are thankful for each and every one of them! Also to Rick and Nancy Reagan (the family attempting to adopt the girls) If you are reading this petition remember that God is watching all that you do, and if you all are aware of what is going on, that these girls have a biological family that they were taken away from, PLEASE do not let your wishes of wanting a child interfere with what you know is right……………………………………………………… You can donate to “Bring 2 little girls home legal fee fund” @Wells Fargo Bank….We appreciate all help. For those who do not have a Wells Fargo in their town You can send checks and Money orders to P.o. Box 9 Fairfield Al 35064….Thank you!!!! Please sign to help bring these two little girls Affectionately called “Piggy” & “Boobie” Home to their FAMILY!!!!! Turn the page for the video and access to the petition.
Ray J is once again making serious bank by embracing a naked woman. The hip hop star, best known for giving it to Kim Kardashian on tape , is one of two new spokespeople for some shaving gel from a company called Prince Reigns. Then again, perhaps we should withhold all mockery, considering the company is apparently doing well enough to offer both Ray J and Sophie Monk – the topless woman Ray is hugging on the billboard below – $1 million each for their role in this campaign. At this rate, Ray J may never need to make a living while wearing clothes. He also may need to make regular STD appointments.
Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. Octomom, says her financial woes are so far beyond terrible, she owes between $500,000-1,000,000 to various creditors. Octomom filed for bankruptcy yesterday, claiming she has $0-50,000 to her name. Combined with 14 mouths to feed, that’s what we call bad. Fortunately, she gets all the premium channels though. Game of Thrones is not to be missed, even if your kids can’t go to the bathroom indoors. Not that it’ll do her a lot of good until she has money coming in (just wait for her erotic solo effort ), but Octomom says she took that class online. Presumably before Verizon turned off her service.
Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and one of the richest men in the world, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 81-year old made the announcement yesterday in a statement that reads: “I received my diagnosis last Wednesday. I then had a CAT scan and a bone scan on Thursday, followed by an MRI today.” “These tests showed no incidence of cancer elsewhere in my body. My doctors and I have decided on a two-month treatment of daily radiation to begin in mid-July. This regimen will restrict my travel during that period, but will not otherwise change my daily routine.” Buffett says his energy level is “”100%,” but he understands the fear of investors and has attempted to quell them by saying he’s named a successor to his post. He will alert them to this individual’s identity if his health declines dramatically, but believes “that day is a long way off.” We wish the financial guru a full recovery and, in the meantime, the public can expect to hear his name brought up often throughout the 2012 President election, as Barack Obama is on the campaign trail right now, advocating for Congress to pass The Buffett Rule, which would increase tax rates on investments/millionaires. We doubt Ted Nugent is in favor of it.
Welp, she sounds just about right on this one!! The most talented people in the world go to Las Vegas to perform, play and party. But Kendra Wilkinson is not one of them. “I never ever see myself as a celebrity or famous so I poke fun at that,” the reality star told PEOPLE while hosting MGM Grand’s Wet Republic pool party on Friday. “I just say what I do. I have no talent. I have nothing to offer.” Wilkinson, who pranced around her VIP cabana in a white bikini and blue see-through cover-up, said she appreciates her status as a reality star on Kendra but doesn’t take it for granted. We actually like the fact that Kendra doesn’t take herself too seriously, because at the end of the day she’s right. SMH.
