Sam Claflin as Finnick: First, Shirtless Look!

Just when you thought it could not any better than the new Catching Fire trailer that debuted Saturday at Comic-Con… Lionsgate has released the first true photo of Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, the dashing victor from Suzanne Collins’ best-seller who causes confusion and attraction for Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss. And it’s not hard to see why, is it? Claflin was confirmed for this role last August, beating out such better known names as Channing Tatum and Armie Hammer. We’ve seen a Finnick portrait already and we’ve seen his Catching Fire profile, but this is our first look at the character in his often-half-naked state. So stare and decide: Is Claflin hot enough to portray Finnick?   Yes, hubba hubba! Not even close! Eh, he’ll do View Poll »

Catching Fire: First Look at Finnick!

We still have nearly a year to go until Catching Fire hits the theaters, but Hunger Games fans are in for a thrill this week: The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features Jennifer Lawrence on the cover as Katniss Everdeen – and also Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair! It’s our first look at this British actor in the key role: Claflin tells the magazine that he was petrified to film the infamous scene in which Finnick interacts with Katniss while donning nothing but strategically placed netting, explaining: It was “the scariest moment of my life. I’m on Twitter and so many people have been like ‘Don’t mess this up, or we will kill you.’” Considering the rising star is still alive – and in the running to play Four in Divergent – it’s safe to assume he nailed the role. This copy of EW will be available newsstands Friday, January 11.

Jena Malone Rumored for Role in Catching Fire

The Catching Fire casting carousel has landed on Jena Malone. According to Entertainment Weekly , the former Sucker Punch actress is a frontrunner for the key role of Johanna Mason , a District 7 Tribute who doesn’t get along too well with Katniss in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games follow-up. While Lionsgate has not yet commented on any casting rumors, and while names continue to be bantered about for both Johanna and Finnick Odair , no new actors or actresses have actually signed on yet. It’s unclear why. Kristen Bell is clearly perfect for Johanna and has made no secret of her passion for The Hunger Games . Who do you think should portray Johanna Mason?

Who Might Philip Seymour Hoffman Play in Catching Fire?

Who will portray Finnick Odair in Catching Fire ? Let’s table that debate for a moment and focus on another key role from The Hunger Games sequel. Multiple sources confirm that Oscar winner and 2012 Tony Award nominee Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the character of Plutarch Heavensbee, the Gamemaker at the Capitol who takes over for Seneca Crane and who is far savvier than his predecessor. He plays a pivotal part in the world of Katniss, Peeta and company over the course of the next book/film chapter. Hoffman, one of the most respected actors alive, would be a major coup for new director Francis Lawrence. He just finished a run as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman on Broadway . No word yet from the star or the studio, but come on. This has to happen, right? [Photo: WENN.com]
