Do We Need to Stage a Career Intervention For Rachel McAdams?

Way back in June, Spyglass Entertainment debuted the first trailer for The Vow , the latest Rachel McAdams romance film involving memory loss. It was depressing to see our former Notebook sweetheart diving headfirst into another melodramatic title. Like McAdams’s Vow character though — who is struck with amnesia after a parked car accident involving an overplayed Meatloaf single — I forgot about the former starlet’s downwardly spiraling filmography…until today’s new preview for The Vow reminded me, it’s about time someone stages a career intervention for Rachel McAdams.

ParaNorman Trailer: Norman of the Living Dead!

It doesn’t hit theaters until August 2012, but the first trailer for ParaNorman , Focus’s animated followup to 9 and Coraline , is a playful stop-motion glimpse into the mind of a boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who can speak to the dead. He’s called upon when his town comes under zombie siege. Thus far, it looks about as droll and fun as James and the Giant Peach , which is about the best compliment I can give.

In Honor of Hong Kong Phooey, 5 Other Hanna-Barbera Characters Worthy of the Big Screen

Congrats to Eddie Murphy, who just picked up voicing duties in the live action/animated movie Hong Kong Phooey , the Hanna-Barbera cartoon that only produced 16 episodes but forever validated the legitimacy of dog custodians and their mastery of martial arts. Scatman Crothers provided the original voice of “the number one super guy,” but the Shrek / Mulan firebrand will make a worthy substitute. Does this mean we should anticipate more Hanna-Barbera live-action/animation takes in the future? Here are the five best candidates for that treatment.

VIDEO: Ruben Fleischer Explains Why He Passed on Mission: Impossible 4 for 30 Minutes or Less

After scoring a critical and commercial hit with his directorial debut, 2009’s Zombieland , director Ruben Fleischer decided to make the relatively humble crime comedy 30 Minutes or Less (in theaters Friday) as his follow-up, rather than take on some huge Hollywood work-for-hire gig like Mission: Impossible 4 , which he was once in the running to direct. And as he tells Cinema Blend, when he watched the first trailer for the Brad Bird-helmed spy sequel, he knew he’d made the right decision.
