‘Harry Potter’ Finale: Why Did Rupert Grint Walk Out?

‘It is really sad,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Deathly Hallows, Part 2.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rupert Grint Photo: MTV News Spoiler alert: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” is a tearjerker. While fans already expected to walk into the theater Friday with a box of tissues in hand, the “Potter” stars were a bit surprised to find that watching the final film in the series could bring them to tears — or at least make them choke up. Viewers will likely find the movie emotional on two levels, because the story itself has tragic elements and because its release marks the end of a decade-long film series. Even though the actors finished filming the movie more than a year ago, they said there were still scenes in “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” that made them fight back tears. Rupert Grint said that, despite the fact he’s seen the movie twice, he had to walk out of the theater during the London premiere last week. “I caught a bit. It is really sad,” he told MTV News.”There’s a scene where all three of us are on the bridge after the battle, the castle is on fire … there’s a weird parallel between that and our lives. That always gets me.” For Tom Felton, it was the epilogue scene that concludes the movie that almost brought him to tears. That scene has especial emotional resonance for him because his real-life girlfriend, Jade Olivia, plays the wife of his character Draco in the flash-forward sequence. But it was actually Daniel Radcliffe’s scene between Harry and his children at King’s Cross station that affected him the most. “There was something really nice about seeing Daniel with his kids at the end. I really thought Daniel did a marvelous job of being older. I got a bit emotional about that,” Felton said. “Even though it’s funny, it was really quite sad to think that, ‘Christ, our lives have flashed before our eyes. We’re old!’ ” Radcliffe also told MTV News that he found scenes in the film “heartbreaking,” especially Alan Rickman’s performance during Severus Snape’s flashback sequence . Beyond the film, Felton said he nearly cried during Radcliffe, Grint and Emma Watson’s heartfelt goodbye speeches at the London premiere last week. He had to talk himself through it, saying, “Just keep it together, Tom, just keep it together,” but according to the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” actor, it was a close call. “[The speeches] were really quite special,” he said. “I was really touched by that. I could have easily let myself go.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . My name is Asia Gousse & my first Bieber experience was on…

My name is Asia Gousse & my first Bieber experience was on November 17th 2009 . I had come home from school on the 16th in the car with my mom. We were talking about Justin of course when she broke the news, “Honey I forgot, I was supposed to take you to a studio to meet Justin Bieber today.” That sentence right there was when my world smashed into pieces. “BUT WHAT TIME IS IT AT?!” She replied with a shy “3 pm.” I turned my head to clock just to find out that it was 3:30. I was devastated. Later I was moping around at home in resentment. Later that night, my mom broke more news to me. This time it was good! She had let me know that she was only JOKING. That it wasn’t for today…it was for TOMORROW! The next day at school I told everyone about how I get to meet Justin Bieber. No one believed me…but who cares. We drove up to a tv studio and we are at the Live taping of ‘Lopez Tonight’ so I thought then, okay I just get to see him perform. We enter the studio through a back door. We had our passes so it was okay. I walked down the short hallway, make a sharp left, and up two steps. I looked to my left, and through two glasses sliding doors there he was. Justin Drew Bieber. On a couch with Kenny, surrounded by what was at the time just two dancers . I was just so stunned. It was really him. I walk through the doors, and I let my dad do the talking. We walk up to the couch he was sitting on. My dad introduces himself and I push him aside. I look at Justin, he looks at me. He took my hand and shook it. “Hi I’m Justin” (in my mind i was saying, Oh honey, you dont have to tell me who YOU are) I said, “Hi I’m Asia nice to meet you”. I handed him the cupcakes from my mom’s work and he eagerly grabbed them. I had a huge smile on my face. He had on a black american apparel sweater and a black hat with blue plaid on the bottom. He was so adorable! He acted like such a kid. He was having fun…obviously. He tore through out Little Miss Sunshine (vanilla cake with lemon center and lemon frosting) while Kenny devoured the Red Velvet. It was so amazing to see him eat the cupcakes because my mom and I put so much effort, love, and time into the company. He looked up with wide eyes and mouth full of cake and said “THANK YOU!”   Anyways, he was definitely enjoying his time. Soon he was getting ready to perform and he put his earpiece in. He was turning into the freaking energizer bunny because he was so hyper! I was standing behind him at the time and he accidentally backed into me. He turned around and said he was really sorry. Oh but I was still so starstruck all I say was it’s okay! Then some lady came around with her phone told him to get next to me really quickly and to smile…1,2,3, FLASH! We were both caught off guard and she took a picture. Then Justin went out on stage and when he was done, he stopped by the room once more. I managed to get a quick, “You did really good out there” in but everything after that was rushed. Anyways, he had to rush to a concert at Universal City walk. Kenny had told my dad and I to come along for the ride with them. That would mean ME in the SAME car as Justin Bieber! But my dad and I went separately instead because he TOOK TO LONG! I went and saw him perform. I’ve  had all of these wonderful opportunies because my dad is Sr.Vp. of Defjam Records . But trust me, I love and support Justin like every fan out there. Im a die-hard, bieber fanatic, and even withouth connections you know I would have found my way to meeting him one way or another, thats for sure! I made my Twitter on the same day as I met him. Then I went home and sang a cover of ‘Down To Earth’. I was the SECOND person to post a cover that song on YouTube. P.S. SINCE THEN, I have seen Justin : perform at his Valentine’s Day concert, present an award at the Grammys, perform at the KCA’s 2010, 3 of his Los Angeles My World concerts, watched him perform at the AMA’s, I went to a private screening of NSN3D, and lastly I went to the L.A. Never Say Never 3D movie premiere at the Nokia Theatre. I am BEYOND grateful that words cant even describe. I really do hope that every belieber gets their special chance to meet justin and watch him perform because those moments were the best moments of my life. -@asiagousse Original post: My name is Asia Gousse & my first Bieber experience was on…

Arcade Fire, Esperanza Spalding, More Grammy Upsets: Experts Weigh In

Lady Antebellum’s big wins and Eminem’s major losses were also head-scratchers. By Gil Kaufman Arcade Fire at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images There were shocks aplenty at Sunday night’s 53rd annual Grammy Awards , perhaps none as out-of-the-blue as Arcade Fire winning Album of the Year for The Suburbs, their meditation on the search for meaning, joy and a way out of the endless rows of same-y homes around big cities. But the arena-rocking indie band didn’t score the night’s only big head-scratcher. Little-known jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding grabbed Best New Artist from a bummed Justin Bieber and critical-consensus front-runners Drake and Mumford & Sons; pop/country trio Lady Antebellum snagged Song and Record of the Year; and Eminem, up for 10 awards , took home just two in rap categories, losing out on Album of the Year for the third time. The Grammys have practically made confounding choices their calling card at this point, but even for veterans such as Los Angeles Times music critic Ann Powers, some of Sunday night’s winners (and losers) raised some deeper questions. “I was totally surprised by the Arcade Fire win,” she said. “I thought Eminem was going to sweep, and he did the opposite of sweep. I’m trying not to think of what that says about the recording industry, but that’s what [Sunday night] was a commentary on, not popular taste.” After all, Eminem sold more than 4 million copies of Recovery, while The Suburbs has sold a phenomenal (for an indie label) 484,000 copies but hasn’t come anywhere close to having the mainstream impact Slim Shady has had. Part of the reason Arcade Fire may have landed the coup, Powers said, is that there’s a new generation of people working in the music industry who came of age during the indie-rock revolution of the 1980s and 1990s and who are inspired by the band because they represent a look to the future, instead of the Grammys’ more familiar tendency to reward older career artists. “It made me happy, because they’re voting for moving the music industry forward, and that’s healthy that they’re ethically and aesthetically minded,” she said. “This is what we want music to be like in the near future — independent, artistically motivated more than motivated by commercial desire. We don’t want it to pander.” As for why Eminem was shut out in the big categories, Powers said despite his crossover success with songs like the more vulnerable “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna, the Detroit MC is still a bit edgier and harsher than many Grammy voters are comfortable with. That might also explain the success of Lady Antebellum, who are the polar opposite: a totally accessible, pop crossover band with very little to offend anyone (except, apparently, a few bloggers who have begun asking questions about what their band name means and whether it’s offensive). Powers said the loss by Lady Gaga in a number of major categories presents the female flip side to the Eminem problem, in that she is great for ratings, takes risks in her music and is very, very popular but doesn’t play well to conservative-minded voters. “She’s offensive to people who are upset by her queer rhetoric, and Eminem is offensive to women and parents and people who want more happiness in their music,” she said. While it was a huge victory for independent music, Maura Johnston, a writer for the Popdust music blog, said in some ways, Arcade Fire’s victory is a comfortable one for the Grammys. “The billboards I saw the most before the Grammys was the one featuring the Arcade Fire. The way their performance was touted during the whole show you would think they were U2,” she said. “They sold a bunch of records, they had that YouTube concert the day the record was released and they have an arena-rock bombast a lot of indie acts don’t.” In other words, with a slate of pop acts that either make them uncomfortable (Gaga, Eminem), don’t feel quite right for the big prize (Katy Perry) or lack any edge (Lady Antebellum), Arcade Fire won because they have the most resonance and depth. Plus, Johnston said, it didn’t help Eminem’s chances that early in his career he was cavalier about dissing the Grammys, and perhaps some of those voters are still holding grudges. “With Lady Gaga, they might not know what to do with her,” she said. “I think they worry with pop artists about the flash-in-the-pan syndrome, and they may be wondering, ‘Is this person going to last?’ Arcade Fire has lasted for three albums and a number of years, and Lady Gaga is great for ratings, but is she going to be around or will she be another Grammy punch line?” Both said the win by Spalding in the Best New Artist category was another example of voters going with the devil they know. Johnston said there was an audible gasp in the press room when the category’s winner was announced, but in retrospect, it isn’t all that surprising. “She’s a very virtuosic player, the record is extremely palatable, she’s a jazz artist who sings, which is the only kind of jazz record that wins the top awards, and it’s the kind of record you have on your iPod and leave out so your new girlfriend thinks you’re smarter than you are,” Powers said. “It’s accessible, intelligent music, and I’m glad it gave her a boost … but I suspect she’ll never have more than a boutique following.” As for who will benefit most from their exposure on the show, both agreed that Arcade Fire are likely to be pushed to a whole new level of success that could surpass even their career highlight of playing two sold-out Madison Square Garden shows last summer. “They had two songs on the broadcast, and it was an emotional win,” Johnston said. “I think Esperanza will go up by some thousand percent, but she wasn’t selling that much to begin with.” In the end, after years of trying to nudge their voting bloc and nominee slate out of the past and further into the now, Powers said despite lots of great performances from today’s hitmakers, such as Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and Gaga, Sunday night’s show may have been a slide backward. Even with Arcade Fire’s win and show-closing song, the night’s biggest winner was Lady Antebellum, whom she described as “talented craftspeople who are a complete throwback to a certain kind of soft-rock/country sound that was popular in the ’70s and ’80s. But it was also a throwback for the Grammys themselves. The beef with the Grammys is that they always gave awards to Lionel Richie over Bruce Springsteen. However it happened [that Arcade Fire won], it was smart and good fortune for the Recording Academy, but if they had given the big one to Lady Antebellum, the show would have had a very different feel.” The good news, Powers said, is that the show pointed toward the future while also showing that the conventional recording industry is still focusing on bands like Lady Antebellum, “And I’m not sure that’s a band that puts us toward the future.” Which Grammy winners and losers were you most surprised by? McConnell’s Reality Distortion Field on Tax Cuts

The Republican Senate minority leader has been arguing that the outcome of the midterm elections confers a mandate on Congress to extend the Bush-era tax cuts, which are set to expire Jan. 1. But the bipartisan opposition and an electoral mandate to extend the Bush-era tax cut or block all other legislation is at odds with recent polling of the American public — those whom McConnell and Congress are supposed to represent. A recent CBS News poll indicated that 53 percent of Americans want the Bush-era tax cuts extended only for households earning less than $250,000 per year. Only 26 percent indicated they support extending the tax cuts for all Americans regardless of income level. Among Republicans polled, 41 percent support the White House proposal to extend tax cuts for households earning less than $250,000 and 46 percent support extending all the Bush-era tax cuts. A recent Gallup poll found 44 percent of Americans want to keep the tax cuts but set limits for wealthy Americans, and 40 percent favor maintaining the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans. A majority in the Gallup poll (57 percent) would set the bar on taxing households at $500,000 rather than $250,000, which is the figure the White House prefers. A majority of Americans believe the tax cuts should be temporary — 45 percent, versus 37 percent who believe the tax cuts should be permanent. In the AP-CNBC poll, 50 percent of Americans were in favor of expiring the Bush-era tax cuts for households earning over $250,000 and 34 percent favor extending the tax cuts for all Americans. Apparently ignoring the signals presented in the polls (which politicians sometimes do), McConnell and 41 other Republican Senators said they would block votes on all legislation, including the nuclear arms reduction START agreement with Russia and an extension of unemployment benefits, unless an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts includes the highest income earners. “Life is a series of choices,” McConnell said in reference to linking a vote on the START treaty to extending all the Bush-era tax cuts. His strategy of holding up legislation, and giving the White House a something-or-nothing “series of choices,” may be working. The White House has said that it is “negotiating” a compromise tax deal in the next few days, which will extend all the Bush-era tax cuts, but not indefinitely. Following the midterm election, McConnell and the GOP have been able to create a reality distortion field surrounding the tax cuts, and the White House and majority of Democrats are about to enter it. added by: TimALoftis

New Flash Movie To Be Like Silence Of The Lambs & Seven And Other Horrible News

Greg Berlanti, the man who shot to fame because he decided that Joey should kiss Pacey on Dawson’s Creek , is one of the writers of the forthcoming Green Lantern movie and is also putting together the story for its sequel and for the new Flash movie. But based on his ideas for them, I’m not sure he’s really read the comic books in question.
