Katy Perry Is MTV News’ #2 Woman Of The Year

Perry got married and ruled the charts in 2010. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry Photo: Christopher Polk/AMA2010/Getty/DCP For most women, getting married to the man of their dreams would be enough to make a pretty good year. But when you’re a larger-than-life pop diva like Katy Perry , exchanging rings with comedic beau Russell Brand is just one of the bold headlines in a 365-day whirlwind that also included a successful tour and a trio of inescapable radio smashes that permanently smacked down any fears of a sophomore slump. (They’re more than just pretty faces, but you can still check out photos of our Men and Women of 2010!) After meeting at the 2009 VMAs , Perry and Brand started off 2010 with a bang by announcing their engagement , and frankly, things just got better and better for her from there. 2010 Highlights : An impressive engagement ring in hand, Perry set to work on her follow-up to her 2008 breakthrough, One of the Boys, working again with pop maestros Dr. Luke and Max Martin while turning in one of the most memorable guest-judge spots in the early audition rounds of what would turn out to be a very lackluster season of “American Idol.” There was the inevitable pregnancy rumor to bat away, and then it was off to work on the “Smurfs” movie and complete the album, even as wedding plans continued apace. By March, Perry was calling Brand a “bridezilla” for his fascination with all things marital, and news leaked that pal Rihanna was planning Perry’s bachelorette party. Like any proper pop star, Perry’s songs started leaking early in May, and when her first single, the Snoop Dogg-assisted “California Gurls,” finally dropped on May 7, fans had no idea how much a part of their flip-flop months that insanely catchy song would become. We got the first glimpse of six months of kaleidoscopic wigs and second-skin latex outfits at the MTV Movie Awards in June when she nearly melted the stage up with her “Gurls” performance , and the single made a historic rise to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart a few days later. When the sticky-sweet video debuted a week after that, well, it was clear Katy (and her whipped-cream-spurting bra) would be in a lot of late-night dreams for the rest of the year. July and August brought a false-starting lawsuit from the Beach Boys’ publisher over “Gurls,” another fetish-fantasy performance at the Teen Choice Awards and a triumphant chart debut in early September for Teenage Dream, which successfully bumped Eminem’s Recovery from the top of the charts. She turned heads again at the VMAs in September, played a sweet revenge show at her old high school and jetted to Las Vegas for a bachelorette party hosted by Rihanna by month’s end. And what would a year of ups be without a few bumps and controversies? In Katy’s case, it was her God-given assets that got her bumped from “Sesame Street,” when some parents complained in late September that her cleavage was NSFK (not safe for kindergarten). She got her revenge a short time later by giving an eyeful on a “Saturday Night Live” skit lampooning the flap and then flew to India in early October for her lavish wedding to Brand . The year was rounded out with the empowering message of the “Firework” video , a headline-grabbing appearance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show , another boob-centric controversy, this time courtesy of the poster for the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops,” and a place on Amazon.com’s year-end best-seller list. An exotic wedding to the man of your dreams, a red-hot career, mad love from your fans and a jet-setting lifestyle — what more could a girl ask for in one year? We’ll be revealing MTV News’ #1 Man and Woman of the Year on Friday. As always, we want to know what you think, so share your picks in the comments below! Waka Flocka Flame’s Mom Denies That Prostitution Was Behind Raid

‘We were really surprised, but the neighbors always watch,’ Deb Antney, who also acts as Waka’s manager, tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane Photo: Getty Images A home occupied by Waka Flocka Flame was raided by Atlanta authorities Thursday (December 16), and the rapper’s associate, Gucci Mane, and his manager and mother, Deb Antney, were detained as police searched the premises. No formal charges were filed, but a TMZ report suggested that the investigation centered on prostitution. Antney staunchly denied that allegation when MTV News spoke with her Thursday (December 16); according to various reports, weapons and drugs were also found on the scene. “It had nothing to do with prostitution,” Antney told MTV News. “The weapons they found were licensed weapons. There was under an ounce of marijuana, but it was nothing but a blunt. The other drugs were medication that was in Waka’s room from when he got hurt,” Antney said, referring to Waka Flocka Flame’s February shooting . Under the terms of the search warrant, Antney said, any person on the property was detained, which included Gucci Mane, whom she also manages. Neither Gucci nor Antney were charged. Waka was not present at the time. It remains unclear if police are searching for the “No Hands” rapper. Antney indicated that she plans to pursue legal action again the authorities. “There’s nothing going on for you to kick a door in,” she said. “We were really surprised, but the neighbors always watch. We live in a country club, so they always watch, they always assume.” Antney, who heads up Mizay Entertainment, was frustrated because her company is scheduled to host a toy drive Thursday. She said when she arrived on the scene, police called her “the Candy Lady” and suggested she was the ring leader of the prostitution operation. “Of course I’m not gonna sit back and be called ‘the Candy Lady,’ ” she said. “There was no prostitution. And we’re not gang-affiliated.” Related Artists Waka Flocka Flame Gucci Mane

‘The concept is just girls,’ Atlanta rapper tells MTV News. Waka recently shot the visuals in Atlanta. “The concept is just girls, sexy women,” he told MTV News ” ‘No Hands,’ we in the club, we in our party, we in our zone. It’s about the women. She’s sexy, she’s elegant. We just went from there.” The track is featured on the rapper’s forthcoming mixtape, Flockaveli, set to drop October 5. DJ Holiday will helm the effort. Waka Flocka Flame Denies Beef With Gucci Mane

Rapper acknowledges that he and the ‘Lemonade’ MC don’t speak. By Mawuse Ziegbe Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane Photo: Getty Images It appears the stress of the hip-hop game has gotten to Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame. Hip-hop fans have been buzzing about the duo after Flocka told Vibe magazine that the MCs “don’t talk anymore,” since after Gucci ditched Flocka’s mom as his manager. Flocka recently addressed the rumors surrounding their relationship and said that while things are different, he doesn’t harbor any bad feelings for Gucci. “I don’t think it’s no split. We couldn’t meet each other on a business level … or a personal level. Whatever the level is, I don’t know. I’m going this way and [he’s] going that way and we both killin’ these folk. That’s just what it is,” Flocka told DJ Drama on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9. The rapper attributed their lack of interaction to his schedule and said, “I’m super busy,” but maintained that “everything’s great.” Although their relationship appears strained, both rappers have scored major success. Last year was a banner year for Gucci who scored a slew of high-profile collabos with the likes of Usher and Mariah Carey. Although the MC spent part of the year in jail, his album, The State vs. Radric Davis, yielded hits like “Lemonade” and “Spotlight.” Flocka, who began his hip-hop ascent as a member of Gucci’s So Icey team, hit big with the rowdy club anthem, “O Let’s Do It,” which has earned him a “Hottest Breakthrough MC” nomination. Flocka insisted that everything is cool between him and his former mentor. “Ain’t no drama,” Flocka said. The rapper also insisted that he would never take things to another level and bring violence into the situation. “Don’t ever think it’s just like, ‘Ey, let’s get [him],’ ” Flocka said. “Don’t ever think I’m [going] to ride on him with another person. Let’s make that super clear.” What do you think of Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane not speaking anymore? Do you want to see them work together again? Let us know in the comments below! Waka Flocka Flame ‘Hard In Da Paint’ Video Premieres

‘Whatever the fans grab, I’m running with it,’ the rapper says of choosing his singles. By Jayson Rodriguez Waka Flocka Flame in his music video for “Hard In The Paint” Photo: Warner Bros. Records Waka Flocka Flame is used to a certain amount of chaos surrounding his environment. The Atlanta-based rapper premiered his latest video for “Hard in Da Paint” on Sunday on MTV2, and in the clip the production was shut down by gang activity and police presence. The Benny Boom-directed number was shot in Los Angeles in the Jungle, a neighborhood made infamous courtesy of the Denzel Washington flick “Training Day.” “I go hard in that mother—-ing pain, n—a, leave you stankin’ n—a,” Waka raps on the track. Earlier this year, the upstart rapper and Gucci Mane prot

Cam’ron Ready To Make A ‘Classic’ Mixtape With DJ Holiday

‘I could do a mixtape in three hours,’ Cam tells the DJ, in Mixtape Daily. By Steven Roberts DJ Holiday Photo: Aphiliates The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Cam’ron has been a busy man lately. Besides reconciling with Jim Jones and announcing the possible reunion of the Diplomats, he made a surprise appearance at Converse’s Band of Ballers tournament as both “assistant coach” and basketball player, helping the Jones Family squad secure their second consecutive title. Cam’s also preparing for the third release in his and DJ Drama’s mixtape series, Boss of all Bosses 2.5. MTV News caught up with Cam over the weekend at the Atlanta tourney, where we also spoke to DJ Holiday, and it seems everybody wants a piece of KFC. “Me and Cam need to do something … a Holiday Season or something. I know you know the brand,” the DJ said, referring to his popular mixtape series. “I could do a mixtape in three hours,” Cam challenged. “Let’s stop talking and do it.” “I can block out about four hours, and we knock out a Holiday Season and make a classic,” Holiday said. “I know you make mixtapes with everybody, but when you do one with the kid, it’s a little different experience.” The “killa season”-meets-“holiday season” collaboration was a no-brainer, said Cam, ready to cement plans. But first, Holiday said, he had some other projects in the works, including the upcoming release of Waka Flocka Flame’s latest mixtape, tentatively titled Flockaveli, which he described as crazy fighting music. And with Gucci Mane’s release from jail a little more than a week away, Holiday said he and Gucc would be preparing a follow-up mixtape: Writing’s on the Wall 2: The Appeal. “I just dropped that [Gucci Mane mixtape] Burrprint HD. It’s in stores right now. We did 20,000 first week; #1 on iTunes. At the end of the day, we finnin’ to make a movie,” Holiday said. Gucci “gets home in probably about 10 days, so you already know we taking over, 10 days. Writing’s on the Wall 2: The Appeal coming soon. I’m trying to win, man.” Should Cam collaborate with DJ Holiday or stay focused on a possible Diplomats album? Let us know in the comments! A crew including Fabolous, Shanell, DJ Green Lantern and more show support for Waka on Atlanta set of ‘O Let’s Do It’ remix. By Shaheem Reid Waka Flocka Flame (file) Photo: MTV News A host of guest stars came down to Waka Flocka Flame’s video set at Atlanta’s Central Station to shoot the clip for his upcoming “O Let’s Do It” remix. Diddy, Rick Ross and Fabolous all rap on the track, while Young Money’s Shanell and Lil Chuckee, Jazze Pha, Lyfe Jennings, DJ Green Lantern and DJ Trauma came down to show support. Of course a highlight was Diddy sitting on top of a Rolls Royce Phantom wearing a fur coat, gold teeth and speaking his clout: “Bi—es come in combos/ Pictures of Christopher on my wall all in my condo/ I don’t f— with fake ho’s/ All I touch is J.Lo’s/ All I drink is my sh–/ Ciroc by the caseloads.” Diddy’s verse has been getting heavy love in the ATL. “Puff Daddy went ham!” Waka told MTV News last month. “Rick Ross went ham! Gucci, that’s my partna — I ain’t even know he jumped on that. He went ham. That’s like the only people I heard jump on it. They went crazy. I respected them for that. I got the official remix. Puff on there, Rick Ross and Gucci. I feel their verses were crazy. Puff went crazy!” Waka — who has dealt with a rough 2010 so far, suffering a gunshot wound in January after a robbery attempt and a recent arrest for probation violation in Houston — debuted his new jewelry pieces in the clip, an iced-out Gumby and Pokey. Diddy Says He Has No ‘Master Plan’ With Rick Ross

‘If it organically grows into something, that’s cool,’ he tells MTV News of his Ross co-sign. By Shaheem Reid Diddy Photo: MTV News “Whenever Diddy calls, I know it’s ’bout a big check,” Rick Ross raps on Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Angels” remix. The Boss and Chairman Combs have been hanging tight a lot lately. They’re on the “Angels” remix together, they jumped on Waka Flocka Flame’s “O Let’s Do It” as well. Ross even posted footage of himself on a jet that was “lent out” by Diddy as he flew from Las Vegas. The ultimate Diddy co-sign had to be on the set of the “Angels” remix video, when Puff compared Rick to the Notorious B.I.G. “I guess him and Biggie locked up in a room,” Diddy said about Ross’ rhymes on the track in an online video . “My man D-Roc even said that. My man D-Roc co-signed. He said, ‘That man right here is sounding like our homie.’ That’s a mean co-sign. I don’t know what was going on in the studio, the spirits was connecting. It ain’t bootleg; it’s organic — straight Whole Foods. A lot of n—as be having preservatives in y’all sh–. This sh– is straight uncut raw. “This right here is just the beginning,” Diddy added. “Look out for us to do more things.” So what exactly are those things? We caught up with Diddy in Dallas during NBA All-Star Weekend, and he said we’ll all just have to see how everything goes. “We’ve just been doing little things together,” Diddy explained. “If it organically grows into something, that’s cool. But it’s not no master plan for something else bigger than that.” Ross and the Carol City Cartel just put out the mixtape The Timeless Audemars Piguet Collection. It’s the prequel to Ross’ upcoming Teflon Don LP. The first record from the album is “Mafia Music 2” featuring Chrisette Michele. The video was shot by Spiff TV for Maybach Films and launched on Tuesday. Related Artists Diddy
