Over 1 Million Felons Get Their Voting Rights Restored As Voters Pass Amendment 4 In Florida

Florida Votes To Restore Voting Rights To Ex-Cons Despite a major loss for the Democrats in Florida , the state got progressive on one major issue in particular. Voters approved Amendment 4 on their ballots, a policy that ensures that the vast majority of felons will regain their right to vote upon release from incarceration, or as soon as they are placed on probation. According to USA Today , previously, former Florida felons would have to wait five years after completing their sentence or their probation and file a former request with the Florida Clemency Board to restore their voting rights. Now, save those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, those who have satisfactorily served their time will have their voting rights restored automatically. Good for Florida making life easier for an overlooked subsector of the population! Maybe this will help them get that extra push at the polls next go ’round. Getty/Instagram

Campaigns Make Final Election Day Push As Celebrities Rally Voters

C candidates were making their final pushes on Election Day eve to turn out the vote, with celebrities expected to help make the case to Floridians. In one of the most widely watched races in the nation, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was expected to lead a rally Monday night at Florida A&M University for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum . See Also: Political Races To Watch In 2018 Midterm Elections Featuring Black Candidates “I am so proud to endorse Andrew Gillum, who will become the first Black governor of Florida,” Combs said in a video, underscoring that he’s not endorsing Gillum because he’s Black. “He’s running a campaign for the people. I’ve spoken to him at length. I believe in him — his focus, his ideas, what he stands for.” Diddy was scheduled to be joined by several other stars, including Tiffany Haddish  and Will Packer. Gillum continued to hold on to a slim lead in the polls, according to the NBC News/Marist survey released Monday. The Tallahassee mayor had an edge of four percentage points over former Rep. Ron DeSantis  , a Republican who has the full endorsement of President Donald Trump . Meanwhile, in Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams reiterated her dismissal of rival Brian Kemp ’s unsubstantiated claim that state Democrats may have hacked into computers that hold voter registration data. It was another example of Georgia Secretary of State Kemp’s “pattern of voter suppression,” she told “CBS This Morning” on Monday. Abrams, who could become the nation’s first African-American governor, planned to spend part of Monday campaigning in southwestern Georgia. Several high-profile politicians and celebrities have campaigned for Abrams, including former President Barack Obama, media legend Oprah Winfrey and rapper Common. Oprah rallied a crowd of Stacey Abrams' supporters. That was the case for Antonio Delgado . Honored and truly humbled to receive an endorsement from @BarackObama . He stands for so many of the values that we hold as our foundation – preserving and improving our democracy, a commitment to service, hard work, and the promotion of dignity and respect for everyone. https://t.co/n2i0xGrjKO — Antonio Delgado (@DelgadoforNY19) August 1, 2018 In one key race for Democrats, congressional candidate Antonio Delgado planned to send out more troops to knock on doors and make massive numbers of phone calls on Monday. This team knocked on 62,000 doors and made 100,000 phone calls on Sunday, with plans to repeat that effort on Election Eve. Delgado is part of the blue wave that Democrats hope will help them retake the House of Representatives. Republican John Faso currently holds New York’s 19th Congressional District seat, but Democrats believe they have a good chance to swing the district, which is 90 percent white, over to their side. Recent polls showed Delgado and Faso in a statistical tie. Yesterday we knocked on over 62,000 doors and we are heading out to hit even more!! Thank you so much to everyone out there helping to get out the vote. Let’s go!! #NY19 pic.twitter.com/lrSOcF46XD — Antonio Delgado (@DelgadoforNY19) November 4, 2018 On the eve of what the Washington Post said could be “the most important election of our lifetime,” several other Black candidates were making last-minute campaign moves to do their share to help sweep Republicans out of office. They included  Ayanna Pressely  in Massachusetts;  Lucy McBath  of Georgia; Vangie Williams of Virginia;  Mandela Barnes  of Wisconsin; and Jahana Hayes  of Connecticut. Most of the candidates were competitive in their races, according to the polls . SEE ALSO: Brian Kemp’s Latest Move Shows His ‘Desperation,’ Stacey Abrams Says Make Massa Happy! Racist Robocall From Oprah Impersonator Targets Georgia Governor’s Race

(Photo Credit: PR Photos) Georgia voters received a racist robocall targeting the state’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams , according to  a report by CNN . The call features a voice impersonating Oprah Winfrey , who appeared on the campaign trail Thursday (Nov. 1) in support of Abrams. In about a 60-second pre-recorded message, racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric is used to mock the media titan and attack Abrams. The message was created by a white supremacist group called The Road to Power, CNN reported. The group is known for anti-Semitic video podcasts. It previously attacked Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum after he won the nomination in the August primary and again in October. According to the report, it is unknown how many voters received this call. Expect The GOP To Go Into Overdrive Suppressing The Black Vote Ahead Of Election Day

R epublicans, increasingly worried about losing control of Congress, could rev up their ongoing voter suppression efforts in the final days before the 2018 midterm elections. See Also: What Every Black Voter Should Know If They Experience Suppression At The Polls A loss of expected momentum has the GOP scrambling for its political life, as the party tosses lifelines to House candidates in districts that President Trump won in 2016, the Washington Post reported. Republican strategists find themselves making tough choices about which struggling candidates to save and which ones to ignore. Political experts had long predicted that Democrats would retake the House. But after a series of political wins, the GOP saw a chance to stem the blue wave. However, Republicans now see their hope slipping away. In desperation, the Republicans could step up their voter suppression efforts in key races. With the early voting season underway, voter suppression incidents are increasing. Here's what you need to know to protect your rights… https://t.co/ai2nYZpky3 #RepresentTheVote pic.twitter.com/v95exYcVC1 — NewsOne (@newsone) October 25, 2018 Fresh off their victory in placing Judge Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, some Republican leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell , boasted that their base was fired up and ready to keep the party in power. There was indeed an upswing, but the momentum has fizzled, according to the Post. Added to that, Trump and his party face a surge of criticism and blame for inspiring the recent mail bomb attacks on prominent Democrats, as well as the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue. Republicans are scrambling, using every trick in the book to retain control of Congress and state governments. Suppression efforts targeting Black voters have already been seen in Georgia , where Stacey Abrams could make history as the first African-American female governor. Voting rights advocates joined a lawsuit against Georgia election officials for the unusually high rate of absentee mail ballot rejects. On Monday, former President Jimmy Carter urged Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp to recuse himself from overseeing the state’s elections. Kemp is competing against Abrams for governor and has come under fire for alleged voter suppression. But Kemp continued to decline calls to step down. Voting rights groups are prepared for a surge in suppression efforts and urge voters to know their rights. Signs of voter intimidation include aggressive questioning about voting qualifications from poll workers and harassment that targets specific racial or ethnic groups, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Gillum Claps Back At Trump With HBCU Pride

View post:

F lorida’s Democratic nominee for governor Andrew Gillum returned fire at President Donald Trump  one day after the divider in chief insulted Gillum’s HBCU (historically Black colleges and universities) education in a tweet on Monday. See Also: Trump Takes A Swipe At Andrew Gillum’s HBCU Education The Tallahassee mayor tweeted Tuesday morning that he’s a proud graduate of  Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). Gillum could make history as Florida’s first African-American governor. He’s in a tight race against Ron DeSantis , a candidate with a long history of being outspokenly racist against Black people. The comments from Trump, who has readily endorsed DeSantis, came against the backdrop of several polls indicating that Gillum holds a slim lead over DeSantis days after two debates in which Gillum outperformed his rival. In his response, Gillum recommended that Trump learn a few things about FAMU’s long history of providing stellar education to African-Americans. p.s. Mr. @realDonaldTrump , I am a graduate of THE Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) — an HBCU founded on October 3, 1887. Google it. https://t.co/I8uOokptJA — Andrew Gillum (@AndrewGillum) October 30, 2018 Trump has no interest in uniting the nation at a time when the country is reeling from domestic terror attacks from white supremacists. The president suggested in his tweet that Gillum’s education at FAMU was somehow inferior to DeSantis’ Ivy League education. He also called Gillum “a thief” and incompetent as a mayor. Gillum tweeted this response to Trump doubling down in a Fox News interview, “I heard @realDonaldTrump ran home to @FoxNews to lie about me. But as my grandmother told me — never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig likes it. So ignore him and vote, Florida!” When pressed on Monday by reporters about what exactly the president meant by calling Gillum a thief, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to elaborate, according to Politico . Trump’s remarks may very well backfire by galvanizing young African-Americans who, like Gillum, are proud HBCU graduates. Gillum Claps Back At Trump With HBCU Pride

Trump Takes A Swipe At Andrew Gillum’s HBCU Education

T he divider in chief, Donald Trump , took steps to widen the racial wedge between the Florida gubernatorial candidates by implying an education at a historically Black college or university ( HBCU ) was decidedly inferior to the Ivy League. The president made his ignorant statement in a tweet despite growing evidence that the Democratic candidate — Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum — has consistently displayed a far more superior ability to campaign based on fact and policy over his opponent, Republican Ron DeSantis . But of course, Trump never lets the facts get in between him and his Twitter fingers. In Florida there is a choice between a Harvard/Yale educated man named @RonDeSantisFL who has been a great Congressman and will be a great Governor – and a Dem who is a thief and who is Mayor of poorly run Tallahassee, said to be one of the most corrupt cities in the Country! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 29, 2018 Gillum is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University, an HBCU. Nevermind the racist dog whistling in the tweet that was Trump calling Gillum “a thief,” an unsubstantiated charge from a president who routinely reinforces negative stereotypes about Black people. DeSantis has shown himself to be an unabashed racist, something that his alma maters Harvard and Yale universities can’t be proud of, no matter if the schools’ histories reflect otherwise (they do). Further, Gillum has twice upstaged DeSantis in both gubernatorial debates held last week, showing a masterful knowledge of policy compared to the racist attacks the Republican and his supporters have consistently resorted to. Trump’s tweet came less than a week after a report that he planned to make last-ditch pleas for votes for controversial GOP candidates. While Gillum has been consistently polling ahead of DeSantis, who resigned from Congress under a cloud of controversy stemming from a  House ethics complaint against him , early voting reports in Florida have indicated not many Democrats were going to the polls, which could spell bad news for the mayor. But if the election is decided based on policy plans and not racial rhetoric — DeSantis and his supporters have made multiple “monkey” references about the Democrat who could become the Sunshine State’s first African-American governor — Gillum should emerge victorious, by far. As of early Monday afternoon, Gillum was reportedly ahead of DeSantis by either 1 or 5 percentage points, depending on the poll . While political polling has proven to be an inexact science (see the 2016 presidential election for more on this), polling in the state of Florida has been pretty consistent over the years, especially when it comes to the governor’s race. “Four years ago, Charlie Crist led Rick Scott in eight of the final 20 2014 gubernatorial race public polls, Rick Scott led in six, and six polls showed them tied,” the Tampa Bay Times reminded readers on Monday. “The final polling average showed Crist with by just .6 percentage points, and Scott won reelection by 1.1 percent.” SEE ALSO: Mail Bomber Targeted Andrew Gillum, Too Andrew Gillum Reportedly Has Trump Scrambling In Last-Ditch Move For DeSantis [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3833456″ overlay=”true”]

Jen Harley and Ronnie Magro Seriously Can’t Quit Each Other

It seems very possible that Jen Harley recently pounded Ronnie Ortiz-Magro in the face. Despite this allegation, however, the troubled reality stars continue to pound each other. In the bedroom, we mean. Just a few days ago, Ronnie shared a close-up of his face and his left eye, both of which appeared to be battered and bruised. Along with this disturbing image, the veteran Jersey Shore cast member wrote as a caption: “Sorry for lying to my friends and family. Sometimes u love people so much [you’re] willing to lie and the hurt the people that love u the most to protect.” Translation: Harley beat the crap out of me again. Right? How else were we meant to interpret this message and this picture? A few months prior to Ronnie’s apparent assault reveal, he had been dragged down the street from a car that Harley was driving./ No, really: HARLEY DRAGGED RONNIE DOWN THE STREET BY HER CAR . And just a short time before this ridiculous incident, Harley was banned from a Las Vegas hotel after she (allegedly) got physical with Ronnie on a different occasion. And these altercations followed an ugly exchange between Ronnie and Harley on social media , as documented below. Simply put, these two do NOT belong together… View Slideshow: Ronnie Magro Brawls with Girlfriend on Instagram Live, Apologizes to Fans After Breakup Shortly after Ronnie shared the back eye picture, Jen replied to a fan on social media who asked about her having future contact with her baby daddy, writing: “No I will never speak to him again. I’ve kept my mouth shut for to (sic) long.” That was on Friday. On Saturday, Harley and Ronnie were spotted out and about, chilling with friends on a boat. The MTV star himself posted clips aboard the boat of him and Harley, the latter of whom was donning a pink fluoro bikini, as you can see in the first picture in this article above. According to TMZ, meanwhile, the effed up twosome was in Florida, celebrating Harley’s birthday with a handful of loved ones. On Sunday, Jen shared a series of text messages between her and Ortiz-Magro on Instagram, saying along with them: “the truth about the Black eye lol.” “I’ll fix it baby,” a message allegedly from Ronnie reads, assing: “U want me to post something say that I reacted out of anger and that it was a double sided incendet (sic) and we are working at making things better so we are never back in that situation again.” “Lmfao. Nahhhh so it look like your so scared of me you had too,” Harley responded, adding that Ortiz-Magro made her “wanna puke right now.” We can’t figure these two out, that’s for certain. But we do know they have a six-month old daughter at home and better shape the hecl up for her sake. Harley and Ortiz-Magro, who started dating in July 2017, have documented their tumultuous relationship on social media and on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. You can tune in each Thursday night to see how this awful relationship plays out. Just consider yourself warned: It will be funny at first and then, once you realize they are parents of a baby girl, it will be downright nauseating and awful to witness.
