Source: Mike Coppola / Getty Kodak Black Ended The Night In Handcuffs On Friday Kodak Black ended up being detained outside of a Hollywood nightclub on Friday night and a fan captured some footage of the rapper in handcuffs from across the street. Luckily for the rapper–who is still on probation, and already went to jail for a probation violation earlier this year–no arrests were made. “Got my man Kodak and them shook down over there, bro. It went down in the club now they got Kodak chained up, baby,” the fan said in his video. “He can’t be f**king up with the law. They got into a brawl in the club and [the police] shook them down.” According to reports from the people over at TMZ , the Florida rapper was cuffed after police responded to a fight at the Playhouse nightclub. The site’s sources claim that a small scuffle happened a little after midnight and police were able to quickly defuse the situation. Kodak was only handcuffed in the process of the police figuring out how the fight happened, and they made sure to add that Black was let go fairly quickly with no one pressing any charges. Before being let off in this incident, the rapper was on a hot streak music-wise and even better, he’s actually been seen in a bunch of positive headlines throughout the news recently. This includes the heart-warming news that he planned to open a school in his parent’s home of Haiti and his $10K donation to a children’s center in his home state of Florida.
Yeah this is definitely some kind of shim sham. (Screenshot Nola.com) 30-year-old Arthur Posey was arrested on charges in connection to a bomb threat at Willie’s Chicken Shack when restaurant employees say that Posey approached the food prep area and asked what time the restaurant closed. According to the female employee, Posey replied to her, “Y’all about to close right now because I’m going to get a bomb and blow this place up.” Sounds like a typical bomb threat, right? Well, Posey says his words were misconstrued and refereed to the classic and common slang of “blowing a place up” as in blowing up their bathroom after using it. His official warrant even says as much but the employee stated that Posey never said anything about a bathroom. Posey has since been charged with two counts of communicating false information of planned arson. He’ll be back in court on November 29. Source: Joe Skipper / Getty Andrew Gillum Officially Concedes Florida Governor’s Race According to CNN , Florida Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum officially conceded to Republican Ron DeSantis, two days after a machine recount ended . The machine recount had DeSantis still leading by over 3,000 votes. The Tallahassee mayor congratulated DeSantis on becoming the next governor of Florida. Gillum conceded on Election Night, but later retracted it after the margin of votes between him and DeSantis shrunk within the level of a legally required recount and there was a chance at a runoff. Donald Trump congratulated DeSantis on his victory, and called Gillum a “strong Democrat warrior long into the future – a force to reckon with!”
Source: SAEED KHAN / Getty U.S. Coast Guard Intercepts Half A Billion Dollars Worth Of Cocaine In Florida According to CBS Miami , an estimated $500 million dollars worth of cocaine was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard and will never make it to the streets of South Florida. The 18.5 tons of cocaine was seized in international waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America. There were 15 separate suspected drug smuggling vessel interdictions performed by multiple U.S. Coast Guard cutters. “This multi-ton offload of cocaine represents not just the work of the men and women of Coast Guard Cutter James, but that of our partners and allies that work every day to dismantle the criminal organizations that seek to profit from trafficking drugs and other illicit items to our shores,” said Capt. Jeffrey Randall (commanding officer of the cutter James). “It takes a network to defeat a network, and we will continue to expand our capabilities and leverage these partnerships to amplify our impact and stop this illegal trade which threatens our national security and breads instability in our partner nations.”
T he role of racism factored heavily in the Florida gubernatorial election, but not exactly how you might think it did, supporters of Andrew Gillum recently told the Tampa Bay Times. Yes, the president’s white nationalism-based backing for Republican Ron DeSantis only energized the Florida voters who likely cast ballots with the lone objective of keeping a Black man from becoming the Sunshine State chief executive. But perhaps it was Gillum’s consistent references to the overt racism from DeSantis and his supporters that may have convinced them to vote against the Tallahassee mayor. It all depended on which Democrat you asked. “Andrew Gillum would have won if he were white,” Judy Beck, a Democrat from St. Petersburg, told the Tampa Bay Times. Gillum was not conceding “after Florida’s machine recount showed Ron DeSantis with a lead that appeared insurmountable barring an extraordinary turn of events,” according to the Tallahassee Democrat . Florida State Sen. Darryl Rouson, who is Black, didn’t mince his words. “I’m not one to call racism unless I smell it, feel it, touch it, walk with it. But there are many who would argue, and make good points, that racism did have a role,” he said. Friday’s report was published amid growing calls for Gillum to concede the race “after Florida’s machine recount showed Ron DeSantis with a lead that appeared insurmountable barring an extraordinary turn of events,” according to the Tallahassee Democrat . The facts are clear, though: DeSantis cast the first racist stone the day after Gillum won his primary, warning voters not to “monkey this up” by electing the Democrat. That instance of racist dog-whistling was just the latest in a line of many from the Republican, whose supporters launched a series of racist robocalls that featured monkey sounds. Still, at least one Florida-based Democratic consultant thought Gillum shouldn’t have focused on the racism aimed at him from DeSantis and Trump. “People did not like him playing the race card,” Edwards told the Tampa Bay Times. “That had a demonstrable effect.” Race clearly played a role when it came to the actual election, which saw gubernatorial ballots cast along racial lines with 86 percent of Black voters going for Gillum, according to exit polls. But polling ahead of the election showed Gillum with a consistent, if not narrow, lead, casting further doubt on any polling ahead of an election. Still, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And this campaign was aflame with racially provocative language that kept Gillum on the defensive addressing DeSantis’ reckless claims. But was it enough to sway the election? The answer is yes and no, according to Shannon Love, a Democratic consultant in St. Petersburg. “I don’t think many people would say they don’t think race was a factor at all, but the question is how much of a factor,” she said. According to official police reports, it was not a very merry Tuesday afternoon for former Big Brother contestant Christmas Abbott. TMZ and Us Weekly both confirm that the 36-year old reality star turned herself into Tampa authorities yesterday, at which time she was booked for felony criminal mischief. For what rather incredible and violent reason? Scroll down to find out! Based on records obtained by TMZ, Abbott drove to a local Florida gym back in August in order to confront her baby daddy’s alleged side piece. Cops say that Abbott then flew into a complete rage, asking all kinds of questions of this unnamed woman prior to throwing a cup of coffee in her direction. But that wasn’t all. Christmas then rammed into the alleged victim’s car in the parking lot with her own. Abbott was eight months pregnant with her first child at the time, a boy who would be born a few weeks later and named Loyal. The boy’s father is Benjamin Bunn, a fellow fitness enthusiast who is no longer with the Big Brother Season 19 third-place finisher. TMZ quotes this same police report in stating that Abbott called the other woman a “pathetic home-wrecking little slut,” among other insults. She believed at the time of the confrontation that the woman was sleeping with Bunn, even though Bunn told Us Weekly last month that he and Abbott ended their romance last December. “Unfortunately, I had very little contact with Christmas in the last few months of her pregnancy,” Bunn told this tabloid, adding in October: “However, prior to that, we spent almost every day with each other for six to seven months straight. I went to every doctor’s appointment, accompanied her for travel, moved furniture and did all the things that two caring adults do with and for each other… “I was finally able to reach her a few days before [her] due date. I found out she was being induced through Instagram, and shortly thereafter received an email.” But back to Abbott’s arrest: The responding officer on the scene says Abbott kept yelling at her man’s mistress while the officer tried to calm her down. Cops declined to process her because she was so far along, although her vehicle was seized and the sides agrees that Abbott could turn herself in at a later date. And this is what she did on Tuesday. As previously mentioned, Abbott came in third place during season 19 of Big Brother. addition to her stint on the CBS reality show, Christmas is well-known for being a series CrossFit competitor – and she was actually the first female NASCAR pit crew member. How cool and random, right?!? Hours after her arrest, meanwhile, Abbott shared a video of son Loyal Atticus sleeping on her chest. “How could I ever get enough of that sweet smile,” she wrote along with it. “I literally can stare and watch him all day long just to watch him & maybe see a lil laugh or giggle. He simply lights up my heart & makes me so fulfilled!”
B en Jealous fell short in his effort to become governor of Maryland when he lost the election on Tuesday night to incumbent Republican Gov. Larry Hogan. NBC News projected Hogan’s win. The former NAACP president had been leaning on his roots in civil rights in his unsuccessful bid to become the first African-American governor in Maryland. While Jealous, 45, had been consistently polling behind Hogan, he made some strong moves ahead of Election Day, including recruiting legendary comedian Dave Chappelle to knock on doors and encourage people to vote for him. One major platform that appealed to Black people, in particular, was Jealous’ plan to increase funding for and bring better academic programs to the states historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). “I’ve put a detailed plan on the table to ensure that we finally treat our state’s HBCUs fairly,” Jealous recently told the AFRO. “We’ve been underfunding public higher education for too long and we need to reorient our state’s priorities back towards making sure we’re preparing our kids for the workforce. As governor, I’m committed to putting an end to this lawsuit and fulfilling the state’s obligations to our HBCUs.” Jealous won the state’s Democratic primary in late June to add to be one of three Black people running for governor, along with Florida’s Andrew Gillum and Georgia’s Stacey Abrams. A ndrew Gillum barely fell short on Tuesday night in his historic campaign to become the first Black governor of Florida’s next governor. CNN projected that the contentious election would go to Republican and former Congressman Ron DeSantis , who edged the mayor of Tallahassee by the slimmest of margins that, in classic Florida fashion, could result in a recount. Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum: “We didn't win it tonight. We didn't win this transaction. But I want you all to know that is just it, a transaction, that what we believe in still holds true today.” https://t.co/QF15MHrJt2 #ElectionNight pic.twitter.com/RfsNpoY8y4 — ABC News (@ABC) November 7, 2018 Andrew Gillum concedes to GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis in Florida's gubernatorial race: “We recognize that, you know, we didn't win it tonight. We didn't win this transaction.” https://t.co/QF15MHrJt2 #Midterm2018 pic.twitter.com/lFYbOlVgJs — ABC News (@ABC) November 7, 2018 With 48.9 percent of the vote, Gillum, who earned more than 3.9 million votes, lost to DeSantis by a single percentage point, according to CNN’s count . Gillum, 39, cast his own ballot for himself late Tuesday morning at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee. He and his wife, R. Jai, and used a moment of levity for what was the biggest moment of his young but accomplished political career, according to the Tallahassee Democrat . “I voted for you,” R. Jai told her husband, who responded in front of a throng of supporters: “Okay, my wife voted for me.” ELECTION RESULTS: Follow NewsOne’s Midterm Election Coverage Here The election, however, was anything but a laughing matter. The post-primary Florida gubernatorial campaign has been marred by overt acts of racism from the DeSantis, whose distinguished record of racism has been well documented for years. On top of that negative distraction, Gillum was polling by as many as seven percentage points and as few as three over DeSantis, depending on which survey was being cited. The distinction between the two became clearer when they faced off twice for gubernatorial debates, during which Gillum showed his mastery of Florida policy while reducing DeSantis to racist dog-whistling attacks instead of substantive talking points. Aside from warning Florida voters not to “monkey this up” by electing Gillum, the Republican’s white supremacist supporters funded racist robocalls to Floridians that included monkey sounds. There was even the apparent FBI probe into Gillum allegedly inappropriately receiving tickets to the hit Broadway show “Hamilton,” but that issue seemed to fade pretty quickly after DeSantis tried to make it into a bigger deal than it was during the debates. Still, Gillum found the time to remain an effective mayor while waging a legitimate run for governor, even suspending his own campaign twice to deal with natural disaster striking Florida as well as a deadly shooting in Tallahassee. T here was a big win for African-Americans on Election Day even as tight election races appeared to minimized the anticipated Black wave. SEE ALSO: Here’s What Happened In Alabama When Voting Rights Were Restored To Ex-Felons Florida voters approved Amendment 4, which automatically restores voting rights for people who served their time in prison for felony convictions. “The passage of Amendment 4 tonight in Florida is a victory for democracy. An estimated 1.4 million people will now have a second chance and be able to exercise their right to vote, having paid their debt to society by completing their sentences. We applaud the people of Florida for making the right choice tonight,” People For the American Way said. Florida, which banned more felons from voting than any other state, was blocking 21.5 percent of African Americans from casting ballots , achieving the goals of felony disenfranchisement laws that were historically intended to reduce Black voting power . BREAKING: Amendment 4 in Florida has just PASSED! YES! YES! YES! 1.4 million former felons who had been banned from voting for life will all now be granted back their voting rights. A HUGE and hard fought victory. One of the most important of our lifetime. — Shaun King (@shaunking) November 7, 2018 Looking ahead to the 2020 elections, there’s plenty of reason for Republicans to stay awake at night worrying about the potential political impact of Amendment 4. With voting rights restored, an estimated 258,060 felons would likely register as Democrats and just 46,920 would join the Republican Party, according to a study reported by the Sentencing Project . In the purple state, where presidential elections and statewide races are usually razor thin, this could swing elections in favor of Democrats. President Donald Trump won just 1.3 percent more votes than Hillary Clinton in 2016. Florida was one of a handful of states that does not automatically restore voting rights after its citizens finish serving their time in prison. Approximately 6.1 million felons across the country have lost their right to vote, according to the Sentencing Project . Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia are among the states with large populations of Black felons who must petition their states to restore their voting rights . SEE ALSO: Make Massa Happy!
