A lil positivity… James Moss Gives Back After Being Homeless A homeless Colorado man who was given over $54,000 via the #GoBeKind Tour recently decided to pay it forward. James Moss who was left stranded with his son after his housing arrangements fell through, took time out to feed the needy this weekend from 10 a.m. until the service organization he worked with ran out of food. 9 News.com reports: After more than 1,500 people opened their hearts and wallets to help a man down on his luck, that man decided to give back. James Moss and a few volunteers were in Civic Center Park Saturday handing out sandwiches and other food to the homeless and hungry from 10 a.m. until they ran out of food. It all started when James came to Denver from New York in hopes of making a better life for his young son. He had a job and home lined up. But when his housing arrangements fell through, James and his son were left homeless and without a car. Leon Logothetis, a TV host, producer, author and traveler, shared their story and gave James $1,000 and a week’s hotel stay as part of the #GoBeKind Tour. “I never thought that a small act of kindness like that would spark such a huge chain reaction,” James said in a follow-up video. Touched and grateful, James decided to pay that kindness forward with a food give-away in Civic Center Park to help other people down on their luck. Iron Chef Champ Kerry Simon Passes Away At The Age Of 60 Sad news to report in the food world… Via NY Daily News : Kerry Simon, a former “Iron Chef” champ who served up dishes to rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and Mötley Crüe, has died. He was 60. His business partner, Cory Harwell, said Simon died Friday morning at a hospice in Las Vegas. He was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy, a degenerative neurological disorder, and died from complications related to the disease. Known as the “rock ’n’ roll chef,” Simon appeared on “Iron Chef America” in 2005 and beat Cat Cora in a hamburger challenge. Harwell says Simon didn’t let his illness keep him from doing what he wanted to, which was open restaurants. A 69-year-old Manhattan entrepreneur didn’t have any kids of her own, but she had birds. So like any good parent, the 69-year-old wanted to make sure her birds were taken care of in the event of her passing. That’s why she left them $100,000 in her will with precise instructions on how to take care of her pets. Via NY Post: A late Manhattan entrepreneur who pioneered direct mailing with her “rich list” left $100,000 to her 32 cockatiels — with nitpicky instructions on how to care for the birds. Leslie Ann Mandel, who was married to Arthur Herzog, author of the sci-fi thriller “The Swarm,” named her stepson, Matthew Herzog, as trustee of the pet fund. Her will lovingly lists each of the birds — Wheetie, Port, Blackie, Zippy, Tara, Zara, Shasha, Pigeon, Victory, Alie, Zack 12, Dart, Cubby, Max, Baby, Ruthie, Pumpkin, Tattoo, Susie, Tracy, Margie, Sammy, Angel, Inky, Sara, Tundra, Tanteleah, Eva, Cody, Nicki, Avis and Dragon — and asks that the birds “continue to live in the aviary” in her $4 million East Hampton property. As an alternative, they can be moved to “a protected place of similar size and dimension, made of the same materials, without a cage, for the rest of their natural lives,” the will says. Mandel adds explicit instructions for their weekly maintenance. “It is my wish that the birds be fed and the building cleaned each Monday and Thursday and their food shall be purchased from Avi-Cakes, carrots, water and popcorn,” the will states. Avi-Cakes are a brand of natural birdfeed. A 20-pound bag costs $115.
