In the midst of all their current business struggles, Papa John’s has found its next spokesman: Shaquille O’Neal–But he’s going to be doing a lot more than just selling a few pizzas. The Hall-of-Famer will also be joining Papa John’s board of directors, investing in nine Papa John’s stores in Atlanta, and becoming an ambassador for the brand in advertisements. Having Shaq on their team is a big move for Papa John’s, whose sales have declined for five straight quarters. The company first reported a slowdown in October 2017, when its founder John Schnatter blamed on the NFL’s handling of player protests . Schnatter stepped down as CEO two months after the comments , which sparked a backlash and marked the beginning of the company’s rough patch. People were so lost without their respective timelines, “IG and FB down” trended for the better part of Wednesday. It got us thinking about what life was like before social media fully infiltrated our lives , specifically Instagram, and come to think of it…the olden days were an entirely different world. Then, going viral became a major measure of success and things haven’t been the same since. So, what all do we do differently now? Pretty much everything… People used to just eat their food, for instance. Now it’s all about taking photos to let people know how good you’re eating—and even food pics need perfect lighting. You weren’t able to watch your significant other “like” a surplus amount of *ss or eggplant pics in real-time prior to IG. Social media definitely exposed the overall flimsiness of present-day relationships. There’s a lack of real-life presence. We do EVERYTHING with our phones these days…being able to walk and check Instagram at the same time is actually a life-skill. Whereas before, people actually lived real life…instead of taking pictures of life to flex for the Gram. Then there’s the added pressure to appear just as picture perfect when people see you out and about. Let’s just say kids don’t look like they used to… Instagram provided people the ability to share content with the world instantly. With a way to immediately let your key market know that your product/service/talent is available, owning your own business and being your own boss is a lot less intimidating these days. Everyone’s an entrepreneur now. And in many cases, these folks are also mini-celebrities with super powerful brands thanks to all those “likes.” Speaking of which… Fashion Nova and online boutiques like FN changed the game by getting Instagram influencers and celebrities to wear and endorse their products in IG photos. Speaking of which, does anyone remember what life was like before we got the tea from The Shade Room and Baller Alert? Since celebs are online, accounts like these make it their business to be all up in your fave’s beeswax…this much tea was also unheard of. We had to mind our business back in the day. Thinking of the perfect Instagram caption? Anecessary life skill now. And last, but certainly not least, remember when you could breakup with your boy/girlfriend without having to breakup with them online too? Yep, life was definitely different. We’ve got to get more help and some answers to the pain and awful side effects of all I’ve endured. Hopefully a specialist or someone who knows more about immunotherapy can help. The fact is that my bowels are working overtime, rumbling all hours of the night and churning whatever food I had into mush. I’ve been trying to keep hydrated and gain weight but the food just doesn’t stay with me. I drink a lot of electrolytes and I haven’t been puking which is a nice change. Cannabis has helped with appetite/sleep but these pain killers also feel like they are destroying my gut. That’s all my life has been pretty much since I got out in October so that’s why I don’t post much, even though I know you guys are cool with me complaining here and there. So, we’re doing this again. I’m not sure I’ll be admitted immediately. I appreciate any advice you have on what you’ve been through. I’m not giving up hope, My body can get through this. Her official fanpage page now has nearly 500,000,” Aol reports. Mayday showed her scars, talked about what it was like to have ovarian cancer, and documented unexpected hair loss. Due to the type of chemotherapy she was receiving, it was unlikely Mayday lose her hair, but when she did, she told her followers: “Our beauty comes out if we accept the changes we must face and allow ourselves to just embrace our differences. My beauty doesn’t come from my hair, no, my beauty comes from within.” Mayday’s family announced her passing on her social media, saying in the post: “She dreamed of making an impact on people’s lives. She achieved this through the creation of Elly Mayday which allowed her to connect with all of you. You all inspired Ashley and we hope she did the same for you.” We’re going to miss the young angel. Now in 2019, people like Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler , and Jordan Peele are getting recognition for their cinematic storytelling, but still, many Black faces on the technical side fail to get their due recognition. That seems to be changing thanks to some major Oscar wins on Sunday for costume designer Ruth Carter and production designer Hannah Beachler. Both women won for Black Panther, making them the first Black women to win in their respective categories of Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. Ms. Beachler was the first Black woman period to even be nominated in her category. Though the Oscars continue to cause mixed emotions with their decision making , the win for Carter and Beachler on Sunday gives more exposure to talent that can inspire women of color in the future. But rather than an over the top evening filled with hot tea and hats, the Duchess made a getaway to the Big Apple to spend some quality time with her closest, non-British besties. According to multiple outlets, Meghan has been in NYC over the past couple of days celebrating the upcoming arrival of her and Prince Harry’s first child who is due this Spring. And Meghan’s pals deserve an award for their wondrous party planning skills. The shower is reportedly being held in a $75,000 suite at The Mark Hotel, which is known as “New York’s most boldly lavish hotel” located in the heart of Manhattan. And the head chef at the 5-star resort happens to be none other than world-renowned culinary master Jean-Georges Vongerichten. But the only thing better than the food…the guest list! A-list celebrities filed into the hotel to greet the royal, including Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Gayle King, Meghan’s wedding makeup artist Daniel Martin, former Suits star Abigail Spencer, Toronto-based stylist Jessica Mulroney, and designer (and Meghan and Harry’s matchmaker) Misha Nonoo, according to People . But Serena and Amal are footing the bill as they are rumored to be the ones hosting the extravagant party. And it wasn’t just their sophisticated chic fashion the photographers were busy capturing, but rather a giant cotton candy machine being wheeled into the hotel! Meghan reportedly has been known to spoil her friends and co-workers with special treats.
